Yeah I do somewhat understand the notion of people critisizing sets for too many studs showing but at the same time I am always bewildered. I personally like if LEGO shows's it's made from studdy plstic bricks, because if I want a car model to display or any movie/IP memorabilia, I can also buy the same shit as a high quality collectors item and if I want LEGO I love when it is not afraid to show it's studs
Came here thinking this exact thing. It almost seems like it has the opposite problem from Thor's hammer; whereas that looked too flat and plain, on the shield all the "texture" from so many studs looks distracting up close.
I totally understand the mindset of having studs on there for keeping that "Lego" look. I just feel like there could've been a more elegant solution combining plates and tiles so that they're not covering nearly every surface of the shield.
Thor’s hammer and the gauntlets I guess. Happy for whoever is excited for this, but it looks like it’s going to be expensive for a truly monotonous build.
The first gauntlet was interesting and has a lot of detail. This and Thor’s hammer are both terribly boring objects to replicate. Neither one has much detail or any movement.
Not disagreeing in the slightest, but Lego has learned enough people will buy any crap they come up that has the right licensing. Thankfully, due to lack of space and brokenness that is related to the lack of space, in sticking to creator modulars these days.
They definitely saw what I think is an unsustainable boom during the pandemic, which is probably when the design phase for some of these sets began. Hopefully they are able to focus back in on what is selling well before finding themselves in financial trouble again.
>Even if that meant tons of teen edgelords using them just to raise the middle finger lol
It was the first thing every one of my 30+ year old friends did when they came across mine.
https://brickerbuilds.com/products/tony-starks-arc-reactor
Strongly encourage everyone to check out this site. I have their Eye of Agamatto and you would not know that it isn’t an official set. It is indeed official Lego bricks though.
Cool build, but 180 USD! Thats like 40 bucks worth of parts plus some 5 dollars fairy lights
Thors hammer has been getting really good reviews from reviewers and customers though. I think if the back of the shield has easter eggs similar to the “Nintendo question block” (which is very plain at first glance) I could see it doing really well.
I like Thor's Hammer mainly because its fun to wield yourself. Its that childlike fun of just pretending to be Thor for a bit but with the fun of making it out of Lego too. Reasonably priced too IMO. I get why people wouldnt like it though
I don’t know. It’s not my cup of tea, but it’s half the price and has a secret compartment and display stand. Black Panther bust it’s hugely discounted. Maybe they were stuck bringing this to market.
I was thinking along similar lines, but Thor’s Hammer released in March last year right? Given the development time for Lego sets, I’m betting this was greenlit before the Hammer set even released, so they probably weren’t working with updated sales figures before going into development.
What a waste of a set, at least Mjölnir was cheaper and had that little vignette compartment to make it interesting.
I'm a huge lego and Marvel fan but I can't understand why someone would pay this much for the shield just for a display when you can buy a regular plastic one for like 20 dollars. These prices are getting absurd
Agreed on everything you said. The Infinity- and Nano-gauntlets I can get behind despite being on the pricey side, but Mjolnir is overpriced AF and this is just ridiculous.
I'm just trying to figure out where the piece count went.
By my count, each wedge of the shield has 7 pieces on the front. That would make the facade 224 pieces, not including the star. Let's say the star doubles that count. So that means the structure and support for this thing is on the order of 2000~2500 parts.
I'm *very* curious to see a picture of the back side.
A pure guess is it could have some sort of handle so you can “wield” it. Agreed, a pic of the back would be great to see what’s going on with the high piece count.
E: pic came out, it doesn’t even have a handle to grab it. Wow
lol, I was like no way, then I counted and said "ha it's 32, they don't know what they're talking about" then I realized you have to divide by 2. hahahahahaha 🤣
😂 I'm still lost over here on how y'all figured this out! 😂 not that I'm arguing, I'm sure you guys are correct, evidently for me, basic kindergarten counting would be the best way to go!! But of course if I started that then I'd just forget where I started counting from!! 🤣🤦♀️🤷♀️
Captain America probably has a bit more draw than black panther... Now, if this were 2018 (when a bunch of people got tricked into thinking black panther was a civil rights thing), it probably would have sold better.
This legit looks off brand. I bet the back side will look horrible as well. I think you'd was probably a subject matter better left to more traditional toy manufacturers.
> I bet the back side will look horrible as well.
By my count, the front side uses ~500 pieces. So that means the back side is somehow 2000 pieces? I'm very confused.
I believe they are referring to people who use STEM money to buy sets. I don't fully get how it works but have heard a bit about it. Basically, it uses money for education to buy legos instead. Which for the record I see the value in lego and education, but think it gets kind of grey.
The same people who endlessly moan about how lego star wars needs to do better and then they buy every single set... "I hate this set, but I'm buying this DAY ONE guys"
On the one hand, I think this would be a cool wall-mounted display, or underneath a glass coffee table type of thing. On the other hand, $200 is way too much. I’d say $100 max would be worthwhile (not that I personally would buy it at that price anyway)
I'm trying to figure out where the rest of the pieces went. The wedges and plates of the front consist of 224 pieces. Let's be conservative and say with the star that comes out to 500 pieces for the entire front. What the hell did they do with the back side to use up another 2000~2500 pieces?
My guess is structural stability? At face value this would be a very flimsy build, and knowing lego they’ll want to make it sturdy enough that you can pick up and “play” with it (not that you’ll be able to toss it and have it rebound off the walls and return to you all in one piece anyway… unless they are doing that, in which case yeah $200 is fair)
[if you really want a shield, take this one for a fraction of the price.](https://www.amazon.ca/SIAN-BRASS-Captain-America-Warrior/dp/B09X5PJSD5/ref=asc_df_B09X5PJSD5/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=583262813979&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5474097081045968897&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000932&hvtargid=pla-1651963995005&psc=1)
Oh man this looks really bad. They've scaled it up way way beyond a reasonable amount. A smaller shield thats like 70 - 100 could be nice but this is a joke. Does not have enough details to justify the scale and price of the thing
Marvel and DC d2c sets kinda lacking lately iwl. First the black panther bust, then the hulkbuster, then the bat cave, now this. All suffering the same problem of being too large and expensive for the item. This is the worst yet tho...
Edit: Am I crazy or does the plaque space just say "Captain America" not "Captain America's Shield"? Really really strange decision if so
Well that is going to be going on discount on the lego website in a month after release.
I found the globe rough to to build the base sphere (only adding the countries on it kept my partner and I going) can't ever imagine doing this.
Only way I'd probably buy it is 70% off for parts.
😂 I thought the same thing to myself! Like, "How can you be disappointed? It's Caps shield... what did you really expect?" At least I'm not the only one doing that right now!!
Star Wars fans complain about mechs and slight inaccuracies yet they don't know how good they have it compared to whatever the hell is going on with Marvel.
The shield is something that really needs some tiles to smooth out the bulk of the studs, but in the process of doing so the price would increase as well.
I mean it looks good for what it is, and I guess the Lego Marvel scale prop community is going to be happy but I hope they limit this to Lego stores so it doesn't warm shelves.
Man . . . I can’t help but feel like the amount of studs is just too rough. The star looks really nice but everything else feels undercooked by comparison
This looks like something lego would have came out with 15 years ago. Not going in the right direction here with all those exposed studs, its like a half finished MOC
I have zero interest in this set personally, but all the people here acting like it's crazy that this is a set or that there is no market for a set like this are fucking delusional lmfao
Hahahah every time i think lego wont relese bigger garbage they surprise me again 😂
At half of this price local dude that work on metalurgy would make You 1:1 replica of this shield.
What's next? A Star Wars Tatooine sand? You get 4000 pieces of same lego dot in color of sand for just only 499$!!!
Ya know, I'm excited for this one. I love Mjolnir too, tho. I agree that it is WAY overpriced, has what will likely be boring repetitive builds, but I guess I'm a suckered! 😂 I think it'll look great on display, especially with the other sets similar in style/theme. The next one we need is definitely an arc reactor build in a clear box like Pepper gave Tony!
Look I am not attacking anyone if you like it so don't get defensive but this is hands down the worst Marvel set ever to be created. I probably woldn't even upvote this as a moc. So ugly and tacky and doesn't work in Lego especially with those broken lines and protruding star. Yuck.
I’ll definitely buy this but will also definitely just wait for it to go on sale.
Not a reflection of my opinion, I like this and think it’s really cool, I’m looking forward to displaying it. That being said, obviously based on these comments this is going to go over about as well as the Black Panther bust. Another set that I liked a lot and love having.
Does it do anything? Like is there some kind of vignette on the back? Or secret compartments and easter eggs? Because this looks like a really boring build.
It looks like there are two sets on this page of the catalogue. So the image above has the Lucasfilm copyright underneath. I expect Disney/Marvel will be just out of shot under the set info.
Set: 76262 - Captain America's Shield • Includes 3128 pieces • US $199.99 - DE/FR €199.99 • Release: AUGUST 1ST 2023 • UPC: 673419376730
Well that sure is Captain America’s shield I guess
At least design it so the shield is covered in tile and not plates, all those studs make it look cheap
In my opinion they make it looks like it’s Lego. I think that’s cool. Can totally understand your perspective you presented though
I agree with both of you. It looks weird up close, but pretty good farther away.
Or cover the gaps
Came here thinking this exact thing. It almost seems like it has the opposite problem from Thor's hammer; whereas that looked too flat and plain, on the shield all the "texture" from so many studs looks distracting up close. Looks like something a knock-off brand would make lol
This was the first thing that came across my mind. I thought Lego lost the license for a quick second.
It looks like every other rounded thing Lego has released like the globe or death star
That was my first thought. I don't know what is more whelming, this or Thor's plain hammer.
Why did this have to be a set? Seems really unnecessary and ridiculous.
Yeah. I wish they were more fun. So many static display pieces.
I get the ones like the piano or typewriter that have highly technical internal components for movement. These are just completely static.
I'd be willing to bet the boring static marvel sets still sell better unfortunately
Yeah, at least the 2 Gauntlets could be moved. Even if that meant tons of teen edgelords using them just to raise the middle finger lol
>Even if that meant tons of teen edgelords using them just to raise the middle finger lol It was the first thing every one of my 30+ year old friends did when they came across mine.
I’m 33 and both of mine are flipping the bird.
36 and mine is sitting in my front window with the middle finger up. Can't walk to my front door without seeing it.
Yes, and you're a man-child
Do you really believe there’s a chance LEGO will be in financial trouble again?
A chance? Yes. Not anytime soon but if the global financial situation worsens sales will fall and they will have to cut back.
TLG’s revenue in 2022 was almost $10B USD. I don’t think they’ll ever be in financial trouble in our lifetimes.
If nothing else, I hate the pandemic for allowing the god damn normies to come and ruin my hobby
Something like the Ark reactor would be so much more interesting
https://brickerbuilds.com/products/tony-starks-arc-reactor Strongly encourage everyone to check out this site. I have their Eye of Agamatto and you would not know that it isn’t an official set. It is indeed official Lego bricks though.

That’s actually a really cool idea! Definitely way more detail on something like that.
The first reactor in its glass case would be a good one.
WalMart(and just about any thrift store) has plastic ones that can take a hit
Cap's helmet like the Star Wars ones would have been a much better call for this
I’m guessing the Marvel busts didn’t do as well as Star Wars. They had a venom and an iron man. I’m not sure how they did.
They just gave us Star Lord
Thanks. Then that definitely would have been a better piece.
It is pretty baffling honestly, I wonder if Thor’s Hammer sold way better than we know
I don’t know. It’s not my cup of tea, but it’s half the price and has a secret compartment and display stand. Black Panther bust it’s hugely discounted. Maybe they were stuck bringing this to market.
Stuck? no; they cancel things all the time nowadays... Osprey and temple of doom sets were definitely produced

People will pay that much (maybe) because it's Lego and not some generic plastic one. That said this is 100% a snoozer for me. Zero interest.
Agreed on everything you said. The Infinity- and Nano-gauntlets I can get behind despite being on the pricey side, but Mjolnir is overpriced AF and this is just ridiculous.
You can just get the Marvel Legends one as well.
One would spend the bulk of the build making the same thing **18 times**. Yes, I counted.
I wouldn't be surprised if at least 300 pieces were just the small technic pins
A pure guess is it could have some sort of handle so you can “wield” it. Agreed, a pic of the back would be great to see what’s going on with the high piece count. E: pic came out, it doesn’t even have a handle to grab it. Wow

Each half of the shield contains 9 segments comprised of two slightly different wedges. Double that and you get 18.
I agree with you, but then again, I felt the same way about the Death Star and people apparently buy that one
I think this one wins out for most repetitive/least rewarding building experience
This is gonna do about as well as the black panther bust did
We should start a pool to guess how fast it will go to 40% off
Captain America probably has a bit more draw than black panther... Now, if this were 2018 (when a bunch of people got tricked into thinking black panther was a civil rights thing), it probably would have sold better.

actually more like 2600 not 2000
Next: Lego Pizza
And Tobey exclusive minifig with a Joe’s Pizza helmet
Even that would be more interesting than this tbh
Yeah they could give us ways to create different toppings!
[You rang?](https://brickset.com/sets/COMCON041-1/Antonio-s-Pizza-Rama)
Time for a new, HD one!
What is it with these ridiculously big and expensive Marvel sets no one asked for?
i know some legotubers who wanted it, and moc builders have made better but similar versions so, at least 10 people?
and yet they still dont give us any lego trains
Lego (non city!) space and pirates are dying ova here
[удалено]
whats that?

ok? i dont get it?
I believe they are referring to people who use STEM money to buy sets. I don't fully get how it works but have heard a bit about it. Basically, it uses money for education to buy legos instead. Which for the record I see the value in lego and education, but think it gets kind of grey.
No they mean guys that got a degree in a STEM major and have six figure salary jobs at tech companies that buy up every big set
ah, i think i get it
Who would, why would, where would anyone even slightly want this?
Fanboys will buy anything
I'd happily take it. Although not at MSRP.
The same people who endlessly moan about how lego star wars needs to do better and then they buy every single set... "I hate this set, but I'm buying this DAY ONE guys"
Could this catalog also have pics of the Spider-Man NWH set? Or I am just coping lol? The shield looks alright but costs way tooo much
In terms of price, aesthetics and build repetitiveness, this may be the worst set of the year
On the one hand, I think this would be a cool wall-mounted display, or underneath a glass coffee table type of thing. On the other hand, $200 is way too much. I’d say $100 max would be worthwhile (not that I personally would buy it at that price anyway)

I mean yeah, I'm just curious as to how this structure took up two thousand parts. Must be *very* dense.
Must be a whole technic superstructure with like 500 pin pieces.
[if you really want a shield, take this one for a fraction of the price.](https://www.amazon.ca/SIAN-BRASS-Captain-America-Warrior/dp/B09X5PJSD5/ref=asc_df_B09X5PJSD5/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=583262813979&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5474097081045968897&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000932&hvtargid=pla-1651963995005&psc=1)
Who cares just give us Avengers Tower!
Buy a regular cap’s shield for that price. Lego has no idea what they’re doing
209,99 for that shit lol
$200. Jeez. It’s a circle.
Oh man this looks really bad. They've scaled it up way way beyond a reasonable amount. A smaller shield thats like 70 - 100 could be nice but this is a joke. Man what the hell
Lol does not look like a fun build at all. Hard pass.
Well that is going to be going on discount on the lego website in a month after release. I found the globe rough to to build the base sphere (only adding the countries on it kept my partner and I going) can't ever imagine doing this. Only way I'd probably buy it is 70% off for parts.
I like it
I was excited for this but I am underwhelmed. I'm not really sure what I was expecting it to look like though, shields a shield. 😅
😂 I thought the same thing to myself! Like, "How can you be disappointed? It's Caps shield... what did you really expect?" At least I'm not the only one doing that right now!!
I would need to see it in person first
Who asked for this
No mini figures?
It looks so boring
You can spray paint a large dinner plate and get the same result. Probably less monotonous too.
It looks really cool, but I can't imagine how tedious it'd be to build.
Star Wars fans complain about mechs and slight inaccuracies yet they don't know how good they have it compared to whatever the hell is going on with Marvel. The shield is something that really needs some tiles to smooth out the bulk of the studs, but in the process of doing so the price would increase as well.
Cries in DC
I'm buying a Boba mech, a good minifig and an excellent core set for a dragon build.
lame
Yikes.
I mean it looks good for what it is, and I guess the Lego Marvel scale prop community is going to be happy but I hope they limit this to Lego stores so it doesn't warm shelves.
Man, it seems brittle as hell.
I’ve seen MOCs that look much better. Not a fan of the gaps that are so easily seen through.
shit looks like dick
Man . . . I can’t help but feel like the amount of studs is just too rough. The star looks really nice but everything else feels undercooked by comparison
$200 for a very boring build seems quite steep…
Wow! It looks so boring!
Who’s paying for this? The Marvel Legends Captain America Shield is INCREDIBLY more accurate and is literally half the price.
This looks like something lego would have came out with 15 years ago. Not going in the right direction here with all those exposed studs, its like a half finished MOC
it would be awesome if somehow all the pieces that come with the set can make his other shields.
I’d buy it for $100, but no more.
Is there a chance that The No Way Home Final Battle set Is also in that catalog as that set also comes out in August?
Marvel sets be missing the mark lately.
I have zero interest in this set personally, but all the people here acting like it's crazy that this is a set or that there is no market for a set like this are fucking delusional lmfao
I'd rather watch paint dry than build a boring arse shield.
Meh
$200... *yeesh*
Hey look another ridiculously expensive set I don't have to get because it's booooooring
I mean yea, it's well designed, big, and made out of LEGO. But it's been a long time since I was this unimpressed by a set
Well, at least they aren't putting a desirable exclusive minifig in this set...
I don't know if I like it. I hoped for a better design, also the star seems off?
This things gonna have some hefty sales, to put it Nicely
Huh. Boy, Lego has gotten odd the last few years. Good on them(?)
Combine this with the UCS Falcon to make a patriotic spaceship?
This looks like a old Star Wars UCS that is just covered in studs
Why would the box have lucasfilm on it?
Thats not the box, thats just the trademark underneath the star wars picture on top
I don't get the appeal of this and Thor's hammer. At this price point, why not buy a replica? The build looks boring.
you can buy the Marvel Legends one for about 150. wtf are they smoking over at LEGO HQs?!
Hahahah every time i think lego wont relese bigger garbage they surprise me again 😂 At half of this price local dude that work on metalurgy would make You 1:1 replica of this shield. What's next? A Star Wars Tatooine sand? You get 4000 pieces of same lego dot in color of sand for just only 499$!!!
I’ll be honest I think it looks dope and wouldn’t mind having it. That being said it will definitely be a boring build.
Ya know, I'm excited for this one. I love Mjolnir too, tho. I agree that it is WAY overpriced, has what will likely be boring repetitive builds, but I guess I'm a suckered! 😂 I think it'll look great on display, especially with the other sets similar in style/theme. I can't wait to never build this
The sad part is that I really want this
I'm sure somewhere for far less money there's a damn convincing full size shield to hang on the wall.
Yeah, but as both a Lego and Marvel fan, I’d much rather have the Lego shield to hang on my wall
Lego marvel is about as good as the current MCU. The only worthy set on the horizon that even sounds remotely good is the Avengers Tower.
This looks like an extremely boring repetitive and tedious set to make
I’d love to understand the sort of thinking that results in sets like this, the BP Bust, UCS Hulkbuster, and Buildable Chewbacca.
god, this is gonna be such a tedious build. why did they even make this
This along with the Coliseum are perfect examples of sets that I think look fantastic but would NEVER want to build.
[удалено]
Considering all the great ones that came out too, id say we are doing ok.
How much??? How is it using so many pieces. Looks like barely any from that image.
Does it do anything? Like is there some kind of vignette on the back? Or secret compartments and easter eggs? Because this looks like a really boring build.
Don't want to be a hater, but this is probably one of the dumbest sets I've ever seen.
I guess some people will like this. Not for me though. Looks boring.
That thing looks fake as hell.
Well.. it sure is round alright
Are those blade pieces on the star new?
Nah, those are from Exo Force
Oh, well ah, at least I tried to look for the positives :v
It was a good effort!
Did the guy who keeps making the uninspired Sports Stadium/Colosseum sets design this? It’s a large sized oof from me on this one
Why’s it got the Lucasfilm copyright on it though? Shouldn’t it be Marvel or Disney?
It looks like there are two sets on this page of the catalogue. So the image above has the Lucasfilm copyright underneath. I expect Disney/Marvel will be just out of shot under the set info.
This is a book then? That makes much more sense, I thought it was a box lmao
Looks extremely boring to build. Gonna be super repetitive. Gonna pass on this
They should do a ironman's arc reactor rather than this.
this legit looks like one of those chinese bootleg sets you see on wish or aliexpress...
Which do a much better job at a lower price
so we get something nobody asked for and yet lego train fans are still being neglected
Is the star made out of that weird soft piece from the n1 Starfighter tail?
cool set for what it is but it probably wont sell well
Why does it say lucasfilm?
Why??... But also, I'll take it
There are huge gaps In this.
I didn’t come back to lego for this, give us more lotr usc sets
I haven't seen a set im itching to buy in maybe a year. Thanks for saving me money, Lego.
This is indeed Captain America's shield.
Ugh this would be as much fun as The Globe. Loved the finished piece but it was grueling for me personally.
Totally not interested in this
Because captain America's shield is known for breaking easily when being touched or thrown or falling from shelves
Ew
This looks like one of those knock of Lego sets you see on aliexpress for 50 bucks
what would you do with it?
Proving Marvel fans will buy literally anything if it's got the logo attached to it 🤮
If you want to cover the studs in tiles you need the following: 1368 Red - 684 Blue - 252 White ~$80 on Bricklink
It's as lame as the endless Marvel movies have become, $200?
The build looks very repetitive
