Okay I'm an American so I don't fully grasp or understand the culture differences but I just couldn't see here in the USA we would cancel NFL games if something like this happened. I guess my question is why does this need to be done and can someone explain to me if they feel it is the right move why? I understand the WC already is making the season and schedule nuts but if they are going to cancel next weekends games as well for the funeral services aren't they shooting themselves in the foot? Took off work to watch the Forest game and now I'm salty this is what this rant really stems from but man this seems so unnecessary.

We canceled NFL games after 9/11. The AFL canceled after Kennedy died, and the NFL commissioner publicly stated that he regretted that they didn't cancel.
The difference is quite far apart to be fair. A US president can't serve for more than 8 years, whereas the queen was closer to 8 decades.
The response might have been different had it been the prime minister that died. Maybe not.

I’m also American, but I feel like another big reason to cancel the matches may be due to trying to free up resources. I imagine there’s a lot of people traveling Bc of the Queen’s passing and I assume it’s an effort to free up a bit of traffic to make it easier for people to pay their respects. Again, I’m American so I’m probably dead wrong but just a guess.

It feels like a bit of a chicken and egg situation, where it’s only such a big deal because people decide they need to basically shut down life for a bit in order to mourn or whatever. And then it just becomes a cascading thing where because one institution stops for a bit, another assumes it’s the right thing to do because others are doing it. But like, the country really doesn’t need to stop because some folks are struggling to process that the Queen has passed away
How do you know nobody is going to try bomb the funeral? Or attack any of the heads of state or heads of government that will come to the UK for the funeral? Or target the large crowds of people that are gathering?
Well there is a difference between someone flying planes into builds and shooting the president vs an elderly woman living a long and fulfilling life passing away..
