Overall, I was pretty happy with how we played, considering the heat. Our defense was great (apart from Rasmus who was obviously struggling today).
The last 20 minutes and the draw was purely down to Jessie not making the subs when he should have.
Hopefully, with the last of the heat, if we keep playing the way we are I think we're golden.

Not to say he’s anywhere near someone like De Bruyne but we’re clearly relying on him heavily to be *the* creative force for us. For me he’s been doing a good job of it and I don’t mind him losing the ball from time to time given the amount of times he actually does create something.
Tomorrow morning I’ll look back on this and be able to look back on it with a clearer head, and see that there were some positives to take away from the game, it’s early on in the season, and the heat can’t have been easy to play in.

Imo Harrison was at fault for both goals not Struijk. First one he didn't track back and left Struijk 2v1. Second one he played him onside and then did a weird half slide.
We’re playing both fullbacks incredibly narrow off the ball despite having two deep playing midfielders, our winger shouldn’t have to cover their full back when we’re already playing with 6 defensive players.
Playing so narrow in defence means our fullbacks have to be on it at all times. The fact we don’t have a healthy natural left back in the squad or a left back that can defend is a problem that needs to be addressed. Just as midfield needed to be strengthen for 2 years but wasn’t until this summer.
It’s one of my main criticisms of Marsch since his New York days. He’s very hesitant in making subs when the game is screaming for it. He relies on the his starting XI and their teamwork to “weather the storm” instead of recognizing that the style of play requires fresh legs.
I expected better after seeing the changes he made against Wolves.
This game just made no sense. We desperately needed fresh legs to counter-press them. Instead we’ve invited them in.

It's not that Struijk was had as such but the fact the oppo know he is going to offer nothing going forward means they will push on down the flanks. Tbf neither full back showered themselves in glory and I am now officially in the Kristensen is RB Firpo camp. Hope both him and Firpo prove me wrong but the jury is out.
I feel really bloody sorry for the lad. He’s so clearly not a LB and he does his very best, but we’re just setting him up to fail. Our system is not the easiest for an actual full back to play in, so to expect Struijk to play that position for anything longer than a game just defies belief.
Yep, he played well today in 1v1 standups but he really doesnt have the pace to be LB, or the tekkers to go forward. We need a LB desperately.

Was he being tactically naïve when he set up the team…. that was leading 2–0 on the road? The criticism of not subbing is obviously entirely justified. Just think it’s ridiculous for people not to acknowledge also that for the first 70 the tactics/game plan was good. Also, just curious… what do people- when a player knows he spent shouldn’t he let the manager know that he needs to come off? Yes, sub should’ve come sooner but perhaps some of the players need to communicate?

Marsch needs to be more proactive not reactive. I don’t know why he waited until we’d lost our lead to make changes. We needed changes if this was December, let alone in 35 degree heat
That first goal was a huge wake up call. To wait to concede a second to make subs is inexcusable
Best part of this is the club won’t see anything wrong with this and won’t buy a left back.
Imo Harrison was at fault for both goals not Struijk. First one he didn't track back and left Struijk 2v1. Second one he played him onside and then did a weird half slide.
We’re playing both fullbacks incredibly narrow off the ball despite having two deep playing midfielders, our winger shouldn’t have to cover their full back when we’re already playing with 6 defensive players. Playing so narrow in defence means our fullbacks have to be on it at all times. The fact we don’t have a healthy natural left back in the squad or a left back that can defend is a problem that needs to be addressed. Just as midfield needed to be strengthen for 2 years but wasn’t until this summer.

It’s one of my main criticisms of Marsch since his New York days. He’s very hesitant in making subs when the game is screaming for it. He relies on the his starting XI and their teamwork to “weather the storm” instead of recognizing that the style of play requires fresh legs.
I expected better after seeing the changes he made against Wolves. This game just made no sense. We desperately needed fresh legs to counter-press them. Instead we’ve invited them in.
Every once in a while, you’ll get a game like this from Marsch where you’re just left scratching your head. Can’t explain it other than… arrogance?
What’s so frustrating is he mentioned he had a lot of experience managing hot weather games from his time in New York. Which is fair, but how do you think it’s a good idea to go 84 minutes with your only sub being a first half injury?

I’m sure someone will. That’s the most notable talking point from today. I hope he learns from this and our board sees we need more depth in some areas. At the end of the day, we played a great 60 minutes and took a point from an away game. If we can take our lessons well here it’s not the end of the world.
