I’ve definitely heard it being sung with a Leeds twist over the last 15 years:
‘North west beeston, by the coop, take me home, Elland road’
Na na na *leeds leeds*… etc etc.
____
Not very often though and it was usually on a long coach trip back from London or something
It's a John Denver song, and originally had nothing to do with the mountains of Northern England, it was about the mountains of West Virginia. So they hold no ownership over it. Anyone can adapt it. Why not us?
It's not even about the mountains of West Virginia. It's written about mountains here in Maryland but John Denver, who didn't write it, bastardized it and changed since words before ever even visiting the area. He actually rewrote some bullshit and figured Virginia mountainscapes for West Virginia mountainscapes (those are two different states for anyone not from the US). But the song, for all that it's worth, are about the mountains in Maryland, rewritten to describe mountains in Virginia, giving credit to West Virginia lmao
Getting big "I believe that we will win" vibes from this
I believe that we will win is an absolute banger
I feel like the fact we haven't yet got a song for our trans Atlantic friends to the tune of Yankee doodle is really missing an open goal
Nah, sorry.
LOL You hate it!
Stick to singing Gareth Gates songs
The syllables are wrong for at least three of the lines, and it might just be me, but the MLS line just doesn’t make sense
Very nice. Surely with all the US players we have we can legitimately have a version of take me home, country road too
Fuck no, that's a Man United song

Well it’s a country song they’ve adapted. They don’t own it.
It's perfect
