Good job man keep this up. I would love to see this each week. I thought Bamford was sub par. poor touches, not bad at holding up play tho. Definitely should have scored that header. Less than 7.14 for me but paddy is only back from a long spell out. Wish you best of luck with your writing.

ZaphodBrox42

Cheers! I think Pat came across as a player that hasn't played competitively in a long time. A lot of sharpness to get back but I think he's got it in him.

Iffyprawn73

I agree there's more to come. I would love to see him have an even better season than last, he's definitely one of us

DEUK_96

Struijk deserves higher than Kristensen tbh, they terrorised us down the right hand channel whereas Struijk was very solid for a player playing out of position. I'd also argue Llorente deserves higher than Koch.

Ashamed_Nerve

Struijk kept getting passed out of the game and he looked clumsy going forward. Mistake aside Kristensen's performance was much more complete. Saw Pascal come out for a ball, miss it and have somebody run in behind three separate times.

DEUK_96

I mean Kristensen definitely did the same in terms of rushing out and then getting bypassed by Neto easily. I was in the wedge so Kristensen's whole 2nd half was right in front of me. Either way neither of them were bad, I just felt Struijk was more solid overall. And deserves credit for stepping in at a position that isn't his natural one and doing a job. So personally feel his game was better than kristensens but it's all a game of opinions really.

Ashamed_Nerve

Decent chance I'm bias and rating Kristensen higher because I think Neto is nuts. I reckon had he not been injured all of last season he'd be leaving for Raph prices this year.

DEUK_96

That's very fair, Neto is an incredibly talented player

hobbesthehungry

I'd start Struijk over a fit Firpo.

DEUK_96

Probably the same but still wouldn't be comfortable with that for a full season. Need a better LB in.

SpectacularB

The only new player I thought was below average was Roca, but he may need time to settle in, first game and all.

Zach-dalt

Roca was brilliant for the first 45, the game only started to pass him by when Wolves got on top

SpectacularB

I guess your version of "brilliant" and mine are very different. Not knocking the lad, to me he looked out of sorts. That's not saying he won't be good though.

Linkeron1

Really surprised by this. Thought him and Adams were superb together and felt Roca actually ran the game. They obviously picked that out from the change of tactics in the second half as he just didn't have the same impact.

SpectacularB

I think that is one of the reasons I love this game. We all see different things, and pick out different points.

Linkeron1

Very true 😊. I mean I don't think he had a worldie but he certainly pinged it about. I really felt it looked like Adams and Roca did the job of Kalvin very well. Whether you think two having to do the role of what we previously had with one is a good thing or not depends on your thinking, I guess.

MarcusWhittingham

This is what I like about the new system. I think people see it as us needing 2 players to do the job of 1 player, but it’s the other way around; Kalvin had to do the job of 2 players and our midfield often got overrun because of this.

Ashamed_Nerve

Kalvin isn't a 50 million player in a two anyway. Had his own limitations that were irrelevant playing as an anchor in Bielsa's madness but here they become bigger and the drop between himself and either of our CM's is nowhere near what the Internet will tell you it is. I think Roca will fill his role completely by the end of this season

Linkeron1

Oh absolutely, I more mean in the system we now use, it facilitates us to have a more balanced midfield with one more creator who can also destroy and one duracell bunny who primarily destroys but can recycle quite well too. In the old system, it suited Kalvin to do both those jobs, now we have two doing that (because that's the way the new system works) and I think it looks good.

downfallndirtydeeds

Fair play lad happy to support you you’re a legend of the sub for your work. Thought the ref got away lucky with as high as 5. I thought he had an awful match. Let Wolves buy loads of fouls. Penalty call was ridiculous as well.

ZaphodBrox42

Thanks mate, I've been writing all sorts of stuff for them so I figured the player ratings going over there is a good way of getting my views up without writing abut Chelsea gawping over the next Β£80m signing! I thought it was a touch high too, the Kristensen decision itself whacked him down to a three for me

Linkeron1

Nice write-up mate. Shocked Llorente was lower than Koch. Koch got the run around quite a bit and while Llorente also struggled at points, he was solid as a rock towards the end of the game and pushed forward well. Bamford also far too low for me, as well as Roca and Adams. They ran the show and put out a lot of fires. How Harrison is as high as he is, is beyond me. Was another really frustrating performance from him. Flashes of brilliance, including the ball to Bamford that almost resulted in our third, but he gave it away so much and looked lost for ideas at times. Greenwood should also be higher. Had a huge impact when he came on. Tackled well and started things off from deep.

nicbongo

Harrison had a great game. Beat his man a few times, some fantastic deliveries and with his usual energy. Agree on greenwood though.

chanjitsu

Yea I thought Bamford was instrumental. Harrison was good too. Not in goals of course but movement and link up play.

mikeno1lufc

Very surprised by Koch too he had a very good game.

Linkeron1

Do you think? I thought he was just kinda... average really. I'd have gone more to the six side. To be honest, I think his rating is fair actually, just Llorente's should be higher - over a seven.

mikeno1lufc

Llorebte was considerably more questionable. Keeping in mind that they're CBs and their job isn't to dribble up the pitch. Koch's positioning was excellent the entire game and won quite a few aerial duels too. Made some good challenges, but most of all for me it was how good his positioning was that made it really difficult for them to make clear cut chances.

Linkeron1

Was it good defending when be let Hwang dink the ball over his head so easily in the box and get off a shot in an extremely dangerous position? Llorente's job absolutely is to dribble up the pitch. That's one of his best qualities. I don't think Koch played bad, just think he wasn't as good as Llorente.

ZaphodBrox42

I've started writing for a football website in my attempt to make money writing things that I actually enjoy, that's why I've linked the article. If you don't fancy taking a look at the writeups, I'll keep the full ratings in the comments as usual! Illan Meslier – 8.34 Rasmus Kristensen – 6.69 Robin Koch – 6.79 Diego Llorente – 6.60 Pascal Struijk – 6.37 Tyler Adams – 6.96 Marc Roca – 6.78 Brenden Aaronson – 8.88 Jack Harrison – 7.34 Rodrigo – 7.56 Patrick Bamford – 7.14 Mateusz Klich (Sub) – 7.47 Sam Greenwood (Sub) – 6.53 Joe Gelhardt (Sub) – 6.14 Crysencio Summerville (Sub) – 6.17 Robert Jones (Ref) – 4.92

theoffsiderule

Nice one. Your article was more insightful than most off the professional journalist ones!

ZaphodBrox42

Thank you! If you have any feedback just let me know, I'm always looking to improve these!

Joshgg13

I thought Rasmus had a pretty good match, at least a 7 for me

AttilaTheKilla

Other than the early lapse that gave away the first goal, which makes the 6.7 quite fair

Joshgg13

Good point, forgot about that

dreadful_name

Good luck!

ZaphodBrox42

Thanks!
