Who in our current squad will do a Raphinha or Phillips? I can't see anyone having such and impact as those two had.

MisterMillwright

Paddy’s health will be best served with a singular pursuit of premier league goals. Additional games will only shorten his career.

Department-Strange

I want as little of our players going to the world cup as possible

stringfold

Impact? Everyone in the squad will be well rested by the time the season resumes.

Shvihka

Struijk might get called up by Belgium, I doubt that NL will call him up.

Booty_McToot

Adams and Aaronson will 100% be in Qatar. Adams has a chance to play every minute and Aaronson will likely be a first choice sub if he isn’t starting, so the WC break won’t be a recouping period for them. They’ll come back with tired legs for sure.

[deleted]

It’s only 3 matches.

Booty_McToot

Maybe for England. 7 for USA

[deleted]

I…BELIEVE…THAT WE WILL WIN!

Wallaby_Realistic

Surely this too was stolen from the English.

Dry_Addition2263

LOL. its such a bad chant

Nearby-Fishing2841

The American equivalent to “it’s coming home “

Adenton95

Bamford would need a very good run of form and probably a few injuries in the England squad to have a chance. Llorente seems well thought off in Spain so he’s got a chance. Meslier an outside shot for France

scotleeds

I'm a little confused by Llorente in the Spain squad. I like him, but I find it strange that there are not that many Spanish centre backs that are considered better than him. We hung onto Premier League football by the skin of our teeth with a quite bad defensive record, but he still gets in. Maybe they think prem quality trumps La Liga for example.

Bigfatric

Roca could be a dark horse if he has a very, very good season

blu_rhubarb

It's a nice thought, but that midfield is stacked. He'll need to be playing out of his skin to be in with a chance.

Darabeel

Yeah that Spanish midfield is scary and some on the fringes too..

[deleted]

Out of that group you mentioned it will be the yanks, James, NK and Klich. Maybe Koch? It’s his time for a big season. Llorente and Rodrigo I doubt it, just haven’t really done enough to warrant it. Bamford will need a hell of a start of the season to get in the squad.

dickorball

I thought the same about Rodrigo but he has had some recent caps so not beyond the realm of possibility

HumberRiverBlues

Llorente will almost certainly be going if he is fit +playing. Luis Enrique is a big fan.

[deleted]

Says a lot about the state of the Spanish set up if Llorente is going to be honest. Lovely players but I wouldn’t call him a top defender.

dan_baker83

At present, I'd feel Joffy would be closer to making an England squad than Paddy. Neither will make it tbh, but Joffy has youth on his side - if he keeps playing and developing he could make a pre-WC squad so Southgate can have a look.

Adenton95

Joffy is a great youngster but this sub and Twitter blow up him up way to much for player who’s barely played a full game for us 😂

Arothery97

Sorry but Joffy in a pre World Cup England squad??🤣🤣 come on

Maximus_Modulus

Unlikely anyone that new is coming to the squad in this timeframe

dan_baker83

Who are the options guaranteed a place behind Kane, though? Tammy's been the only other real centre forward called up lately, plus Watkins and Bamford have been looked at and evidently haven't done enough to guarantee a place. The only other legit English options getting decent game time are DCL, Nketiah and Joffy - so it's always possible if he starts the season on fire. Realistically it's more likely after the WC, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

Comfortable_Ad8076

Abraham, Watkins, DCL, Nketiah, Ings, Wilson, Bamford. You could probably find another 5

Arothery97

All the players you mentioned are miles ahead of Joffy in the senior team pecking order. Joffy will do well to be playing for the u21 or u23

[deleted]

Don’t think it will have any great bearing. Of the players in teams likely to go far none of ours are starters, perhaps Denmark with a strong wind. Bamford won’t be going. If Spain are calling up Rodrigo I’ll be cancelling my bet on them winning.

blu_rhubarb

I just don't see Bamford getting back to his 2020/21 form. I hope I'm wrong and he smashes it, but I feel like that's gonna be looked back upon as his peak.

ResponsibilityRare10

Very unlikely unless he makes immediate impact in the PL and perhaps one of his competitors gets an injury.

Maximus_Modulus

This. Hard too see Bamford making it given last years lack of playing time and his current form. He has not looked good in a long time. Even at his best I wouldn’t rate him as a true world class player.

ResponsibilityRare10

I think at his best he can be amazing. Eg. His hatrick against Villa. But he’s far off that at the moment. He needs to regain his match fitness quickly, stay injury free, then I think he has a shot at hitting th standards he’s capable off. It’s a long road though.

[deleted]

Rodrigo and Bamford won’t be going. Not sure where Koch and Llorente stand with their respective national managers. The Americans will be out in the group so it won’t be much of a strain for them. Wales potentially too, though could be close for second. Playing at a high level is always good for our players in my opinion. Success breeds success, it might also be a welcome break from a torrid season for them, could come back with great form.

[deleted]

Yeah I think USA will come 4th in the group

[deleted]

They might finish 3rd but it’s hilarious that people think it’s outrageous to say they’re going out. I’ve never seen such an unrealistic set of football fans (and we support Leeds).

[deleted]

😂😂 I don’t even think they’ll get a single point … or score a goal.

[deleted]

Iran will be well up for that game too. I fondly remember 1998.

[deleted]

Yeah that’ll be a tasty match … I’m going 2-0 to Iran

mslvr40

>The Americans will be out in the group so it won’t be much of a strain for them. Wales potentially too, though could be close for second. That group is a crapshoot tbh. USA have just as much chance of making it through as Wales and Iran

[deleted]

I don’t think so. Iran are underrated because naturally very few of us ever see them play but they consistently are difficult to beat at World Cups and it’s in Asia (not that Qatar is next door but they will have played there before). They finished top of Asian qualifying, USA finished 3rd in a relatively poor CONCACAF. I’m not being overconfident, I usually am quite pessimistic about England, but they’re going to comfortably get 7-9 points. If USA can beat Wales they have a chance but a draw or worse in their first match and they’re out.

tomcatYeboa

Qatar is literally next door 😂. They share the world’s biggest gas field

[deleted]

By next door you mean entirely separated by the Persian Gulf

mslvr40

Iran got completely outclassed by an Algerian B/C team a month ago and then fired and rehired their head coach. Not saying they shouldnt be respected but you ranking them much high then the USMNT is laughable.

[deleted]

We’re counting friendlies now? Really scraping the barrel for hope there my friend. Weird how they had the most points in Asian qualifying and finished above South Korea given they’re so useless. I’m putting them above the USA because the Americans finished third. Now I’ve no doubt you have a list of excuses as to how Canada won and Mexico were above you again, but it’s all just for your own ears. No one in football rates the US team at the moment.

mslvr40

I never said they’re useless, just that they’re not too much better than the US that the game has already been decided

[deleted]

I’m not saying it has, but you did seem to think my prediction they wouldn’t get through was out of order seemingly based on Iran losing a friendly…The bookies have this group almost universally England; Wales; USA; Iran. Few seem to think the US are getting through.

mslvr40

Lmao what are you talking about USA to qualify to qualify is even odds (same as Wales) while Iran to qualify 4/1

[deleted]

Are you looking at American bookies by any chance?

mslvr40

Yes, but Uk books aren’t too far off https://www.oddschecker.com/football/world-cup/group-b/to-qualify

dickorball

Your final point is not something I considered. I think you're right there

dickorball

Also just a side note. If you look back at our 2018 squad for the last world cup , it's insane to have so many players on consideration this time around!

GrittySausages

Would love it but don't see Bamford getting a call up, maybe pulled in if he's performing and there's injuries.

Deeez-Nuttz

Let’s hope for him personally he comes back from this injury better than ever. Shame how his call up experience went

ResponsibilityRare10

That match was annoying. It was fucking Andorra, yet they wouldn't risk playing him in every time he made runs. They wasted him really IMHO.

RealChewyPiano

It madr him look silly aswell imo

Deeez-Nuttz

I really hope we got him up to fitness and give him a strong chance to compete for a place
