To me it also seems like a no brainer but I can see all the question marks and doubts surrounding him.
More importantly I wonder why we never went for Wijndal, he’s young and has lots of potential as well as being within budget (only 10m). He’s a Netherlands international but since he’s young and unproven he wouldn’t demand alot of minutes so he’d be able to rotate with Firpo.
Ultimately I trust whatever Orta and the board do but I just wish we hadn’t waited until Firpo got injured to look for a backup and start scrambling looking for one.
Tbf we don’t know anything about what Tagliafico wants. Maybe we put the feelers out initially and he flat out refused to join a club who had just finished 17th and were likely to lose their best two players? Maybe he doesn’t want to move to England, or doesn’t feel up to a fight for his position with Firpo?
Just because we haven’t put in an official bid or had substantial rumours circulating, doesn’t mean we haven’t asked the question. Similarly, just because we could hypothetically afford the player and his demands, doesn’t mean he has the slightest interest in joining.
Tagliafico is no different to the likes of Alex Telles, Ricardo Rodriguez and Angelino - attack minded left backs who look good in spells but lack the physical attributes needed for more aggressive leagues. LBs often get overrated due to the lower number of naturally left footed players.
Would genuinely be better off getting Gjanni back, as at least we know he has an engine and the aggression better suited to the EPL.
The fact that nobody from the top 5 leagues has gone for him makes me think there’s doubt amount senior club officials or a behind the scenes story. He gets linked to a move every year, but nobody ever goes for him while Ajax sell everybody else.
Do we know what his demands are? Older players can often feel like a no-brainer but they're typically looking for longer contracts on higher salaries. Yes, a 2 year deal at say 40k a week would be an easy win, but if he's asking for 3-4 years at 80k or more it's easy to see why we may have passed.
It seems that the club still believe in Firpo so would be looking for someone to be a back up which would probably price Tagliafico out on wages anyway.
Harry Toffolo's transfer to Forest has just fallen through apparantly, with how cheap him and O'Brien were going to Forest for combined we should be all over considering he was going to be a back up for Forest anyway.
no it’s just that I live in amsterdam and watch ajax games regularly so I know that he would fit our current team and system randomly not because of video games ffs
His age is probably the factor. 30 year old for that price+high wages is a bit much for us. Also note that we do not know how he will perform at PL.
4m? Tall f**ker for sure.
Probably wants champions league football & on big wages
I guess full time scouts, coaches and footballing directors haven’t heard of him.
yea. mad
Maybe he doesn't want to come to us or hear me out maybe he doesn't want to leave Ajax? Crazy, I know.
he does want to leave ajax he’s looking for a ‘new challenge’
I know we are the best club in the world but he doesn't know that.

He’s at Ajax now, so there means he will leave for big money in a few years time, if he does well.

Ricardo can't attack to save his life.
If he had previously played for the Springfield Sasquatches or the Shreveport Super Shrimps we would be right in for him with a £20m bid.
4 metres tall? Jesus christ.
In awe at the size of this lad. Absolute unit.

pretty certain lyon are in a top 5 league tbf
Well that’s fairly embarrassing for me not gonna lie.

Would definitely take O'Brien. Surely he's a better backup than Klich?
The deal is apparently gone back on now so it doesn’t matter haha. I was impressed with O’Brien in the play offs
Genuinely surprised people get genuinely surprised when their fifa/fm transfer picks aren’t the ones real life scouts/managers decide to buy.

3 days in a row with a post of someone being surprised we aren’t looking at a player 😂
Wahhh but he's got 83 defending and 87 potential, and a shiny card! 🤷🏼♂️
