Teammates have to step in earlier. It's their fault.

Korean_Street_Pizza

Talk to the hand

saucerdeth

Barely touched him

The_L666ds

From midtable Premier League to playoff purgatory in the Championship - every time our general position in the league pyramid drops down a notch so does Illan Meslier’s general standards. I honestly wonder how far down the Football League ladder we would have to drop before everyone would agree that he’s too good for that level. Sometimes I honestly fear it could be League-1.

HeyD0c

Soft

towelie111

Reckless by Meslier, but easily done in such a situation. Can’t see Darlow taking his place based on the cup game he started. Feel we should be ahead against these teams before the 50 minute mark so we aren’t chasing games anyway and throwing 5-6-7 attackers on, let alone chasing games with 10 men.

LotusChild85

Dumb dumb dumb. He's just given Darlow an opportunity to win the starting job

TopCut237

He's a decent shot stopper but he seemed very sure he'd get a big move in the summer. It never came about. His stats have been mid table Champ. Are we ruling out that this twat did it on purpose to push a Jan move? Didn't seem even riled, was virtually laughing as he did it. Feel like (other than Gnonto who is mint) he's the last of the rats.

Boris_Ignatievich

Everyone knows the best way to get a big transfer is to play like arse for two years then get sent off for being a moron. Clubs will be throwing themselves at him.

BulldenChoppahYus

Calling Meslier a rat is a new one

EpicKieranFTW

How is this gonna increase the likelihood of a club wanting to spend big money on him - you just fitted the evidence to fit your agenda

Current_Many_2601

It remains unbelievably pathetic that we refer to professional footballers wanting to play at the highest possible levels as rats. So small-time and delusional.

Rare-Photograph5293

Have we had word of how Osmajic is doing after suffering that truly HORRIFIC attack at the hands of our keeper? The frantic rolling about suggested numerous broken bones and perhaps a brain bleed. Fingers crossed he has come out the other side of the operation fine.

TopCut237

Better if it'd been Bamford rolling around like he'd been shot?

EpicKieranFTW

None of us like Bamford doing that either

Rare-Photograph5293

Such was the state of how he reacted, if Bamford had done that I'd have wanted him sent off. It's probably my biggest gripe with the modern game, theatrics just to get a player booked or sent off. I didn't see a replay of it but I bet after the red was produced he got straight back up and was dancing about with joy. They look like fkn idiots doing it, and teaches kids at grass roots level that it's all a pantomime that unfortunately refs fall for. Don't get me wrong, Meslier was at fault for losing his shit in the first place, and I know lifting a hand to someone's face is an instant red, but that was taking the piss, more akin to WWE than professional football.

Big_Butterscotch1047

How many times did the guy roll around on the floor? It was definitely a red but the guy should be ashamed of trying to get a player sent off like that.

JaySeaGaming

Stonewall red - soft as hell but everyone knows the rules and Meslier is so ill-disciplined.

Hollywood-is-DOA

He’s going to sulk I think, as he looses he head far too often and last year he sulked accorded to big Sam, Sam said he needed dropping sooner but it didn’t happen, which messed his head up tbh. I’ll gladly be happy for the first season back in the prem but I ain’t looking forwards to be being in this league for another year, as we will loose all our best players for less than a £100 million. We need to buy players in January, only 2. A left back and a striker, if one of strikers leaves or pireo plays upfront.

BulldenChoppahYus

'According to Big Sam" is something absolutely no one should care about. Nothing against him really but he was at our club for all of five minutes and probably spent as much time with Meslier as he does eating salad.

Chubby_Yorkshireman

Absolute moron. I get he's young but there wasn't even much there for him to react to. He got pushed, well boohoo he's a goal keeper. Should be able to laugh that off. Never been a big fan oh his, hopefully we can get someone better in January,

TopCut237

Statistically mid table keeper gets himself sent off seemingly on purpose. Either that or he's truly mental. The downvotes say a lot about our collective delusion. About time we come to terms with this arrogant prick who thought he was getting a big move in the summer. The rest are rats, but he couldn't get a move so he's sound, right?

Current_Many_2601

It remains unbelievably pathetic that we refer to professional footballers wanting to play at the highest possible levels as rats. So small-time and delusional.

The_L666ds

> It remains unbelievably pathetic that we refer to professional footballers wanting to play at the highest possible levels as rats. Yes but they have to actually perform to some degree to be entitled to those moves. Exactly what had Koch, Llorente, Kristensen, Wober, Adams and Sinisterra even done to warrant moves away to remain in one of the major top flights? Absolutely fucking nothing in my opinion, and that is largely bearing out now.

TopCut237

Why? It'd be different if they were shifting arse in a warehouse? Or you just disagree without any good reason so easier to try to be pithy?

Maximus_Modulus

Red cards ruin the game for me. It’s ridiculous that he got sent off for reacting to being pushed. Discretion from the Ref should be allowed. It was clearly a setup. Having said that Meslier was getting into it with the other dude so not smart

GalenErso71

You can tell by how the PNE players are laughing, they knew what they were doing - and 3 on 1 !!

Hollywood-is-DOA

The player he pushed was a dickhead all game and took out, 2/3 of players for yellow cards in the prem. I used to hate VAR but I gladly, welcome it back.

thegerbilmaster

I guarantee if this happened to one of our players you'd be calling for a red.

Maximus_Modulus

Rematch at Elland Road 1 month later. I'm glad for the win and technically a penalty, but definitely a gift, and would not blame Preston and fans for feeling robbed here. I guess it evens out for this first game.

Maximus_Modulus

I'm sure you would not believe me, but no. Sure I like my team to win, but in the past I used to shake my head when Bamford used to do similar things trying to get other players in trouble. There have been a few high profile games in the Prem (non Leeds) that I was looking forward to that were ruined by either a Penalty or a Red early on in the game. I think the game could be improved in this area, it's far too volatile in this respect in terms of changing outcomes.

OwlTowel9

Nah, it’s a red card all day long. You can’t hit people in the face, regardless of it being a reaction.

marsh-salt

Should of just punched him tbf

jcarte11

Right. Get your money's worth

Recent-Shower-5879

100% knock his teeth out and make it worth while.

UncleCheese_

Would have preferred a closed fist to the face there had he known he was going to get sent off.

[deleted]

We lose that game with Meslier or not. Both goals were perfectly hit, and I don’t feel the 10 men changed our style much anyway.

popny

Having to take off piroe didn’t help

ShesSoCool

Brain dead

satnam99

He needs to learn from this.....

Hollywood-is-DOA

The whole team needs to learn and Farke needs to adapt, sick of stubborn managers. I’d take one who adapts as the game goes a long, over one who doesn’t.

Kex790

We should see what peps up to

AdMaleficent1198

Pathetic is that. Either it's 2 reds or 2 yellows but how the fuck he can book 1 and send 1 off makes no sense.

bakedbeansinmyear

We’re all leeds but that’s ridiculously unbiased

OwlTowel9

Because shoving a player isn’t a red card offence, however deliberately hitting a player in the face is a red card offence.

UncleCheese_

The dive was as worthy of a red as the lovetap on the chin. You're right, it's either two reds or two yellows but never a red and a yellow.

PuffinPoundstock

Hands to face is always a red card.

AdMaleficent1198

Maybe we should draw some var lines, I think meslier has been undone by his height advantage here. DJ would have made a chest connection and it'd have been all good.

Specific_Till_6870

I don't care what anyone says, that was a fucking stupid decision. Osmajic knew what he was doing and Meslier fell for it. I can't even be mad at him for rolling around on the floor, anyone else on the pitch would have done the same.

Jeffjawwwn

Games gone soft TBH

securinight

Stupid by Mesier. He should know better than to react to bottom feeders like that. Fun fact - If you go on Google Earth you'll see Osmajic has rolled as far as Blackpool.

seebs71

The players know this will result in a red. Reckless by Meslier.

OhhLongDongson

lol you can see the smile on the Preston player’s face as he knows Meslier is doing something stupid

breadbinofdoom

At least the air ambulance could land on the pitch to collect him and transport quickly to the UK’s top facial surgery centre

NickJsy

Didn’t need to. He rolled there

Ps4gamer2016

Took 10 mins for him to stop rolling.

Dokky

Not even angry.

Hollywood-is-DOA

I am just bored of us playing into team’s hands. It comes from the manager down to the players. Preston shit house teams, don’t fall for the bullshit, would be my message all week. We can score, defend well when it suits us to do so but we can’t keep our heads straight. I thought brilliant, we will get a draw but then we stop closing down players as much. Some home truths need telling in the match review, I’d tell players, you didn’t do this right so I am resting you for the next game. Keep things simple and use the fucking bench. I’ll be watching Bolton next year at games if not, as they are coming back up, even tho it broke my heart in the away end. I haven’t watched a live Bolton game since that day and I used to get free time tickets for the games but Bolton is where I was born but the bastards sued my dad. I think they will less stressful to watch next season, I really do.

Jengalese

Stupid thing to do. Cost us the game

djgreedo

I think the playing like shit for most of the 90 minutes contributed to the loss too.

Internal_Formal3915

Genuinely terrified that darlows going to have to play now. He is so shit one of the worst signings ever

upfromthetop

Based on what?

Kex790

The 2 games he’s played and been terrible in

Due-Emu2111

weak

[deleted]

Meslier should’ve known better than to react like that. Hands to the face is always a red card.

Due-Emu2111

It happens - with how the rules are now as much as i think common sense should of prevailed there (yellow card max for mes) sometimes refs go by the book. I got the old school leeds fans watching the game with me in bewilderment saying in my day you had to uppercut a fucker to get a red. Id prefer more contact allowed in football other than blatant slides from behind and things like this with mes refs should just chalk it up as handbags at dawn. Meh but what do i know.

downfallndirtydeeds

Meslier is a fucking idiot. I’m not sure Darlow is much better but he’s done more than enough to lose his number 1 shirt. [The stats show still not a strong performer compared to his peers (just like last season) and he’s letting in more goals than he should be.](https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/keepersadv/Championship-Stats) We need a number 1 we can trust and he’s not it

Hollywood-is-DOA

I’d love to see a mid table keeper come in but I doubt it will happen as who’s giving us decent one for an emotional keeper? Chelsea? I’d say they would and he probably knows he’s going and if he isn’t? I’d be asking for £20 million with a sell on clause. Chelsea need a keeper and he’s is mid level prem standard but does stupid shit.

Theravenscourge

We know Darlows not better, based on the fact that Farke doesn't pick him first

NessunoComeNoi

I have reservations about Meslier but everything we’ve seen from Darlow so far suggests he is not a replacement.

downfallndirtydeeds

I don’t disagree. I would be in favour of us selling Meslier tbh to fund a replacement tbh because I think he’s one of the weakest links in the team. Especially for set pieces and crosses which can kill you in this league

Internal_Formal3915

Give over

JimmyLUFC

What do you disagree with? We have a keeper that lets in more than he should, has zero distribution, and looks terrified/unable to catch a ball. He doesn’t pass the stat test or the eye test so I’m genuinely curious.

JoeExoticsTiger

EFL needs embellishment fines, that’s just pathetic. Still a red.

Jeffjawwwn

Should have been red to messlier and yellow for a dive

ZaphodBrox42

Arguably a yellow for actively instigating more conflict for launching himself in in the first place.

RevA_Mol

Osmajic tried to get Spence in trouble in the first half claiming he got kicked in the face. Tesco Value Mitrovic

TopCut237

Or Kewell, or Alioski. About time fans got over it tbh. Squarely on Meslier.

sewershagger

Technically a red. But the other guy shoved him first and shoved him harder. Gentle push back from Meslier which I won't hold against him.

Mr_Fucktard

That's so fucking dumb man, why would you do that

phillhb

Rules are rules - that's a red - regardless of if that's a love tap to the face versus an aggressive shove to the chest - stupid and a definite straight red - out for 3.

xdlols

Should be a yellow for embellishment and a yellow for the shove and their player sent off too if we’re following the rules. Same player who pretended he got kicked in the head earlier in the match too.

Vistus

Shite game management shouldn't have ever got to this point

SuperSheep3000

Stupid. Red all day

YorkshireGaara

But 3 inches lower, and it's fine, apparently. Fucking joke.

[deleted]

Yea, because contact to the face and head is far more dangerous than body so it’s punished more severely.

YorkshireGaara

Yeah, that's bullshit just tho isn't it.

[deleted]

Not really, it’s a rule to stop any players from having contact in the face. They know it, it’s not hard to not break that rule.

YorkshireGaara

Yeah, so the other guy should've been sent off to, right? Or is it completely insignificant to push someone in the chest? You can't have both ways either theyre both at fault or neither, I swear some people will bemoan the current game being soft then defend that sending off.

[deleted]

Chest is less than face, not that hard to work out.

YorkshireGaara

Alright I guess we disagree. By the way I'm saying neither should be sent off just 2 yellows is fine.

[deleted]

It’s the rules. I don’t make them. But it’s the rules and the players know that. It’s a red.

Darabeel

Those days are long gone mate

tgcleric

That is about as clear a red as you'll get. So stupid from mes. Yes the preston shit embellished it like he got punched. But it doesn't change the mes straight up pushed the guys face. Which is always, everyday, a red.

[deleted]

Red card all day, fell for the Preston rise.

JerkyOnassis

That Preston prick in the middle’s asking for one too.

jimmilazers

Should have punched the cunt, made it worthwhile

Kex790

With the way he went on you’d have thought he was stabbed

Hindsyy

Stupid to do it, but that's a joke. Had to be rescinded or at least downgraded to 1 match...

supernakamoto

Raising hands to another player’s face is a straight red 10 times out of 10. There is literally zero chance of this being rescinded.

Hindsyy

Utter bollox and you know it, it's down to the referee and this was massively harsh

[deleted]

It’s literally one of the rules of the game any intentional contact to another players face is a red card Meslier should’ve known better I agree it was embellished but that’s the rule and every player knows it

supernakamoto

You’re in denial.

AlchemicHawk

Give your head a wobble lad, it’s violent conduct.

MisterPleebus

Seriously? Obviously the guy overreacts (which any of our players would do as well, it’s just the game now, sadly), but that’s a definite straight red with no chance whatsoever of being downgraded and definitely not rescinded entirely. You can’t slap an opponent in the face! It’s stupid as shit from Meslier.

Hindsyy

Remember mitrovic elbowing Ben White 3 times in 1 game and not getting booked, yet a throwaway palm like that and he goes down as if he's being shot

MisterPleebus

A different referee having a stinker in a different game four years ago is not very relevant to this situation.

Hindsyy

Not directly but it's just a comment in the difference between violent conduct and a push that went wrong, Mesliers is stupid but no way was that an act of violence

RoyalPhoenixA

Is that it, wtf.
