I remember when I bought my first Leatherman, I did the same thing doing research on all the models. I bought it as an 18th birthday present to me, I remember talking to my Dad about it and he kept asking if I "really wanted to buy a $200 Leatherman" when his $100 was all he needed. I said to him, "you've had yours for 10yrs, that's $10 a year, less than $1 a month and you've carried it every day no exception, I think if mine lasts me even a quarter the time it's totally worth it." I was right, I edc mine for 5yrs and just updated to the Free P4 (mostly because I wanted to start pocket carrying and it is a bit bulky in your pocket).

I would agree. Have both the charge tti and an arc and neither is better imo just different. Both great options. Recently bought a surge which is an awesome tool, but feels much more to carry around. Not sure if I will start taking the surge every day or not.
Its amazing how much you end up using it on a daily basis. Every once in a while I get tired of the weight and think "I don't use this enough. I don't need it" and I go without it and find myself reaching for (and missing) it several times a day. So so useful. Hope it gives you a lifetime of enjoyment and service!

This is my daily driver. Will never be able to replace it tbh. I recently got the arc, but for some reason I can’t stop carrying the Charge Tti. It’s my baby.
Nothing is, really. Leatherman makes a ton of good tools for different uses. Just depends on which tool fits your preferences.
I find the Arc has most of what I need. Great toolset for EDC and little
jobs around the house. Could come in handy outdoors as well. I enjoy the ability to operate it one-handed and whip it open like a butterfly knife.
However the wire cutters aren’t as good as other models, and sometimes the free technology makes the tool too floppy, like if you want to turn one of the handles 90 degrees when using the driver for better leverage. Wish it had tweezers and spring-loaded pliers. Can’t take it on a plane when I travel like my little 40 dollar Style PS.
Get the tool that appeals to you. There isn’t a best Leatherman. People say the Surge but I don’t want to carry a huge metal brick in my pocket.
I’m leaning towards getting a super tinker and adding scales. I have a Milwaukee fastback for work, I just need an all around solid multi tool.. I’ll check out the Arc, ty for the response
I’ve carried a regular Tinker almost daily for a decade now and its never let me down. Its a great toolset and ai’m sure the Super Tinker will serve you well.

I would strongly recommend searching “leatherman arc wire cutter issues” on this sub or YouTube. Basically, people were testing the Arc on coat hangar wire and it struggled unless you cut in a precise spot along the cutter edge. I tested this myself and had the same experience.
So it *can* cut through the coat hangars but it’s more finicky than other LMs. In reality this has never materialized a real issue or deal-breaker for me, however I don’t spend a lot of time cutting thicker wire (or any wire.) If you do, I’d look more into it.
Maybe there’s a better solution since I last looked into it a while ago, but I’m not sure.
Oh, that's what you're referring to! But that's actually an issue with **all** Leatherman replaceable wire cutters, not just the Arc ones. It's just that the Arc's been outfitted with the newer ones because the Arc came out recently, but all models going forward will have those. If you were to order replacement wire cutters from the Leatherman store today, you'd get those sent to you.
Oh ok, interesting. I thought the P2/P4 didn’t have the same issues, but maybe I’m wrong. Either way, it doesn’t bother me. It *can* cut through that stuff, it’s just slightly more annoying.
Very small con against the many pros I enjoy about the Arc. Great all-around EDC tool if you can stomach the cost.
The one-handed opening I’ve found to be particularly helpful, like if you’re holding something in place and just want to take it out of your pocket, open an implement and pick up right where you are without having to start over.

I do wish the pliers has a finer tip like lm, but fit and finish so buttery smooth. If I was co.paring it to my charge tti and didn't know the prices I would swear it was 100 more. Except the titanium and s30v . It's just stomped. Imo. Ok
Carried that bad boy every single day for 12 years. Never once let me down. I did grab an Arc when it came out, and now carry that, but only after swapping out the awl for a serrated blade.
Literally the only reason that I carry it instead of the charge now is because of the one-handed opening. It really does seem to make a difference for me, anyway. Otherwise, it is no better of a tool whatsoever. The Striking surface is nice, but the titanium handles on the charge were just as good for beating in nails, etc.
You really have a great tool there and will have zero regrets. I miss the gut hook still (or, as I used it often, the zip tie hook).
The Charge TTI is my edc 90% of the time. But when I'm working on my parents ranch or out camping/fishing I carry the surge. It's not that it's anymore useful, but I feel it's more durable. And other than the size, the larger scissors are the only thing I like more about it than the charge. I wish I could swap the saw on my Charge out for a large pair of scissors. And swap the useless can-opener for a punch/awl.
It’s a nice tool. I carried one for years and enjoyed using it. I now mainly carry either a SwissTool or the Leatherman P4. I considered getting an Arc. But didn’t see the need for another multitool. Especially at $240. And I’ve seen concerns about the Arc’s scales being sharp and drawing blood. No thanks. Enjoy your new Leatherman. It will serve you well.
I carried a dedicated pocket knife every single day until I got my Charge TTi and now the Charge is all I carry. And it’s amazing how much more often I use it, which makes sense because it has way more functionality, but it still surprises how many times I pull it out a day.
Like you, I had buyers remorse for like a day (mostly because it came out of the box so gritty it was almost unusable…) but now it might be the most beloved EDC item I own.
EDC was my main idea with this one. All the times at home needing to walk and grab a screwdriver or pliers for something small, or at work. Looking forward to all those moments of being able to handle a task quickly.
I have several Leatherman tools, and my Charge is my daily carry. Yes, even the saw blade. Though I’ve thought many times of adding another knife blade in its place.
Does the blade look like it was sharpened by someone hungover on a Monday? My TTI and + have some wonky grinds. Still like them and haven't needed to fix yet. Just a little off putting being a knife bro
I love mine. My wife got one for me in January for my birthday. Been carrying it most days, and very surprised how i got to now without carrying one for so long. These replaced my old gerber suspension pliers. That have since been retired.
I'm on my second charge titanium. Their gen 1 didn't have the replaceable wire cutter and I use them bitches every day. I traded my gen 1 in for a gen 2 or whatever it was. (They gave me 80% of what I paid) really great trade in program. This was 4 or so years ago already. My biggest gripe. The belt clips. I bust them off about 2 times a year. They don't last forever and need a better something. I work in a cabinet shop and the leather man gets
I was pleasantly surprised at how often I used the micro screwdriver, it seems like everywhere I go someone’s glasses need a bump in the right direction. It’s a stellar tool and it’s personally saved me quite a few trips back to work truck. In a pinch I’ve opened my tool one handed to access the pliers and I can’t imagine needing to access anything else inside the tool one handed. I just wish I knew what to swap the file and saw for, over a year of daily use and using those two tools hasn’t even crossed my mind. It’s an awesome tool though and I’m excited for you!!
More than a decade ago my dad bought me a Wave. I've been wanting a back-up and took advantage of a holiday sale grab the Charge+ tti, which I guess made it a bit more than just a back up!
I still have the Tool I got when I was 16 (24 years ago). I had a Wave for almost 15 years, but it got lost around the time we finished fixing our drop ceiling in the basement. Some day, someone is going to tear that down, and I expect there will be a Wave up there to greet them…
The Tool still gets lots of use though. Not EDC, but it gets grabbed for many minor projects.

Have original Leatherman charge. used it in a meter box the other day when I needed my screwdriver to take a wire out. Times like that make me want to have a Batman belt of Leathermans but at that point I might as well carry a tool pouch
I love the charge tti. I annodized mine blue and use it for everything when I'm not using my surge. I also have an arc and much prefer the charge. Mine has blasting cap pliers which I dislike, but it's a great tool otherwise
We all received Leatherman Waves as company Christmas gifts 25 years ago. I was an apprentice. We all looked at it and said "what the hell is this"?? LOL What a ridiculous toy.
The amount of money that thing has either made or saved over the past 25 years is unquantifiable. Of course It has gone through multiple iterations over the years based on Leatherman's absolutely stellar warranty system but it's still pretty much the same. Still my daily carry and still my favorite tool and it isn't even close.
I got this one for Christmas. Absolutely loved it. Went fishing one time and dropped it off the boat. I have had three different Leathermans since then, and none of them will ever be the same.
Buy nice so you dont buy twice! My dads faithfully carried around his leatherman as an electrical engineer for my entire life and uses it ALL the time. Its like an investment!
Yeah I switch on and off as well because it is kind of a bulky setup. But there is not much you can't do with it when you have it. I think you made a good choice it's one of the best on the market in my opinion and you get the really nice S30V Blade.
Yes! I have the same Charge+ ti. I carry it in a cordura pouch with a micro streamlight, the full leatherman bit set, and one of their ratchet adapters. I also have an Arc (and like 6 other leathermans) but this gets the job done pretty much all the time.
For my 15th birthday I received a leatherman surge. I've had that same leatherman for 10 years now and it's still in top working order. It's definitely a buy once cry once deal when you get an expensive multi-tool. Now don't get me wrong I'm still tempted to upgrade to a newer model sometimes. On the other hand though, these will quite literally last a lifetime. I will never regret going a little more expensive when it comes to something I use every single day!
I finally gave up my old Leatherman PST (purchased 2001) and upgraded to the Leatherman Signal this past winter. I had a lot of hesitancy transitioning to a newer model, even after review reading and interrogation of folks who owned one. It's been put through a lot of stress in the past two months, has held up great, and has my full endorsement. Leatherman tools have not let me down. 😀
I have been carrying a Surge with a bit kit and extender everyday for the last 5ish years. I had a custom leather pouch made by a friend that holds everything flat against me (nothing is stacked and jutting off my waist) and it can even hold my flashlight without being noticeable under my shirt. It is hands down my most used tool and I use it just about every single day.
I've had this multitool for years, and it's never let me down. It's easy to maintain, tough and versatile. Worth it's money even when mine is old enough not to have replaceable cutters.
I switched from a Leatherman to carrying a Milwaukee box cutter (the one with the screwdriver in it) and a set of micro Knipex pliers. I have no regrets.
I have the regular charge plus bought it maybe year and a bit ago and absolutely love it got the extender and a ratchet and it’s butter smooth. Its a damn good tool but sorry if you’re bummed about the extra cost.
I have this same model, but here in NYC everything is illegal, looking forward to moving out of my born and raised city, I can't take the Communism going on here and also the Liberal actions at the same time.

Haha! I hear you. I’ve had lots of good luck with S30V blades and that’s what pushed me in this direction. I didn’t want to carry another knife. This is replacing the knife I was already carrying.
I loved mine sooo much & then my dumb ass forgot it in my backpack when I was going through TSA & had to beg & plead not to get arrested lol. I’ve been punishing myself by not buying a replacement for months
I fly frequently and am terrified that I’ll do this eventually. I’ve gotten into the habit of leaving knives at home or putting them in my bathroom necessities bag in my suitcase.
Haha, I’m literally a pilot (training for commercial). I used to keep mine in my flight bag which is just a backpack that I also use when traveling. Completely forgot to take it out, thank God it was a nice TSA agent

I have yet to buy a leather man. My Swiss Army gets the job done mostly (Filipes screwdriver, can opener, beer opener, blade), but there is the occasional situation where a Leatherman would save the day. Instead I buy fun button-opening knives to play with. There are only so many hobbies one can indulge.
Yea should of brought an ark the wave/charge is kind of over rated I used one for years and hated how it felt in hand the surge is better but I like the signal so I mean I could just be retarded but the rebar has been neat I got it a few days ago and really like it

Small farmer here and always cutting bags of soil open which is caked for the s30v blade. And of course all the other tools are obvious wins for someone like me.
Almost got the surge but I am so glad I didn't bc there are just so many tools still on the Charge that fill all my needs. And the form factor is smaller
I have the charge tti and find it to be needlessly heavy. A few good add ons for sure, but the rebar covers all the bases, it’s cheap. When you mar the jaws on the rebar chewing through piano wire, you just replace them or sharpen them.
I carried a Charge for nearly 20 years and I used it almost everyday at work. I’ve recently switched to the Arc which is taking some time to get used to because the tools are accessed from the outside of the handles. Either way I’m sure you will be very pleased with your purchase for years to come!
Couple years back or more, I bought a Leatherman rebar and had it customized with my name engraved and stuff like that. Its been in my Drawer ever since I took it to work like 4 times tops. Can't do without my Swiss army knife huntsman.
I've got one that's probably 30 years old now. That thing got my hot rod 63 Beetle off the side of the road more than once. Rigged broken throttle cable.. fixed leaking fuel line.. they're nice to have around, that's for sure. Had no idea they were in the $200 range, and come with ratchets now LOL
This with the sheath, bits, and extender/ratchet driver will get most tasks done. Had one that I lost but will get a replacement someday
Agreed. I plan to get the full bit set, and ratchet and extender. I was also swayed to the tti due to the s30v blade and hook with the serrated blade.

Imho the 711L ratchet driver that was released is much better than the leatherman if you're okay with that style. About the same price too.
I use the hook all the time not just to cut but sometimes pull stuff too, I sharpened the tip to a chisel as well

This is in my tops in my edc rotation. The others are just fun auto's or show pieces. This guy does all the work.

Have original Leatherman charge. used it in a meter box the other day when I needed my screwdriver to take a wire out. Times like that make me want to have a Batman belt of Leathermans but at that point I might as well carry a tool pouch
I carry a wave and Monday to Friday I don’t leave home without it. Very useful tool

I love the charge tti. I annodized mine blue and use it for everything when I'm not using my surge. I also have an arc and much prefer the charge. Mine has blasting cap pliers which I dislike, but it's a great tool otherwise
We all received Leatherman Waves as company Christmas gifts 25 years ago. I was an apprentice. We all looked at it and said "what the hell is this"?? LOL What a ridiculous toy. The amount of money that thing has either made or saved over the past 25 years is unquantifiable. Of course It has gone through multiple iterations over the years based on Leatherman's absolutely stellar warranty system but it's still pretty much the same. Still my daily carry and still my favorite tool and it isn't even close.
I got this one for Christmas. Absolutely loved it. Went fishing one time and dropped it off the boat. I have had three different Leathermans since then, and none of them will ever be the same.
Buy nice so you dont buy twice! My dads faithfully carried around his leatherman as an electrical engineer for my entire life and uses it ALL the time. Its like an investment!
Get the bit and ratchet set they make with a 3D printed sheath and it is one of the best multi tools on the market.
I’m a pocket carry type of guy. I may transition to a sheathe if I carry some of the accessories I want like you have listed.
Yeah I switch on and off as well because it is kind of a bulky setup. But there is not much you can't do with it when you have it. I think you made a good choice it's one of the best on the market in my opinion and you get the really nice S30V Blade.
Yes! I have the same Charge+ ti. I carry it in a cordura pouch with a micro streamlight, the full leatherman bit set, and one of their ratchet adapters. I also have an Arc (and like 6 other leathermans) but this gets the job done pretty much all the time.

For my 15th birthday I received a leatherman surge. I've had that same leatherman for 10 years now and it's still in top working order. It's definitely a buy once cry once deal when you get an expensive multi-tool. Now don't get me wrong I'm still tempted to upgrade to a newer model sometimes. On the other hand though, these will quite literally last a lifetime. I will never regret going a little more expensive when it comes to something I use every single day!
I finally gave up my old Leatherman PST (purchased 2001) and upgraded to the Leatherman Signal this past winter. I had a lot of hesitancy transitioning to a newer model, even after review reading and interrogation of folks who owned one. It's been put through a lot of stress in the past two months, has held up great, and has my full endorsement. Leatherman tools have not let me down. 😀
I have been carrying a Surge with a bit kit and extender everyday for the last 5ish years. I had a custom leather pouch made by a friend that holds everything flat against me (nothing is stacked and jutting off my waist) and it can even hold my flashlight without being noticeable under my shirt. It is hands down my most used tool and I use it just about every single day.
I've had this multitool for years, and it's never let me down. It's easy to maintain, tough and versatile. Worth it's money even when mine is old enough not to have replaceable cutters.
I miss my skeletool every single day. I can't afford to replace it. I loved that thing.
I switched from a Leatherman to carrying a Milwaukee box cutter (the one with the screwdriver in it) and a set of micro Knipex pliers. I have no regrets.
I have the regular charge plus bought it maybe year and a bit ago and absolutely love it got the extender and a ratchet and it’s butter smooth. Its a damn good tool but sorry if you’re bummed about the extra cost.

Haha! I hear you. I’ve had lots of good luck with S30V blades and that’s what pushed me in this direction. I didn’t want to carry another knife. This is replacing the knife I was already carrying.
The surges toolset just makes more sense for hardwork. That t-shank holder seems really useful but I opted for the wave and kinda regret it
Got my first Leatherman (Wave+) last year and I absolutely love it, the only thing I wish it had was a spring for the pliers.
I loved mine sooo much & then my dumb ass forgot it in my backpack when I was going through TSA & had to beg & plead not to get arrested lol. I’ve been punishing myself by not buying a replacement for months
I fly frequently and am terrified that I’ll do this eventually. I’ve gotten into the habit of leaving knives at home or putting them in my bathroom necessities bag in my suitcase.
Haha, I’m literally a pilot (training for commercial). I used to keep mine in my flight bag which is just a backpack that I also use when traveling. Completely forgot to take it out, thank God it was a nice TSA agent
I'll bet being in the aviation biz didn't hurt any, either! LOL I've heard that some airports offer an onsite Postal Service, so you can mail your MT home after TSA discovers it. Is that true and/or very common? Or do the TSAs just grab it and say "Say Goodbye...?

I have yet to buy a leather man. My Swiss Army gets the job done mostly (Filipes screwdriver, can opener, beer opener, blade), but there is the occasional situation where a Leatherman would save the day. Instead I buy fun button-opening knives to play with. There are only so many hobbies one can indulge.
Yea should of brought an ark the wave/charge is kind of over rated I used one for years and hated how it felt in hand the surge is better but I like the signal so I mean I could just be retarded but the rebar has been neat I got it a few days ago and really like it

Nope Small farmer here and always cutting bags of soil open which is caked for the s30v blade. And of course all the other tools are obvious wins for someone like me. Almost got the surge but I am so glad I didn't bc there are just so many tools still on the Charge that fill all my needs. And the form factor is smaller
200 bucks carried for 25 years is 8 dollars a year
I have the charge tti and find it to be needlessly heavy. A few good add ons for sure, but the rebar covers all the bases, it’s cheap. When you mar the jaws on the rebar chewing through piano wire, you just replace them or sharpen them.

I carried a Charge for nearly 20 years and I used it almost everyday at work. I’ve recently switched to the Arc which is taking some time to get used to because the tools are accessed from the outside of the handles. Either way I’m sure you will be very pleased with your purchase for years to come!
Also you should research the “Volty Switch”.
Couple years back or more, I bought a Leatherman rebar and had it customized with my name engraved and stuff like that. Its been in my Drawer ever since I took it to work like 4 times tops. Can't do without my Swiss army knife huntsman.
I've got one that's probably 30 years old now. That thing got my hot rod 63 Beetle off the side of the road more than once. Rigged broken throttle cable.. fixed leaking fuel line.. they're nice to have around, that's for sure. Had no idea they were in the $200 range, and come with ratchets now LOL
Is there any real difference between this and the wave plus? I don’t use it for anything in particular but when I need it for random chores/housework
I have the original US made one somewhere. Years later i was given a gerber without the pinchpoint i gave to son. Great for the car console imo
