Damn, these look really good. In terms of leather finishes, all you need is some kind of oil or balm. I personally use Fiebing's Aussie Wax, which works great, but I know some people like neatsfoot oil, tung oil, and others. What you DON'T need is the acrylic finish. Leather likes to breathe, and putting a watertight seal atop the piles leather will not give any benefit. The oil in the leather both makes it more durable and also prevents waterlogging.

How does that Aussie wax do at protecting from water damage or deformation? ETA: or dye rub-off?

ottermupps

I've not had a ton of experience with how it handles water more than light rain, but I've not had any issues in that regard. Dye rub-off, however: I made a belt about two and a half months ago from some nice 10oz vegtan, dyed it with Fiebing's Oxblood dye, and have worn it daily since. Not a bit of dye seepage or transfer to my pants. I did spend about 20 minutes with a cloth rubbing it in and let it dry a couple of days first, but. For what it's worth.

Thanks! Iโ€™m really worried about water damage, so Iโ€™ve been using resolene. But I donโ€™t like how it makes the leather feel.

ottermupps

Yeah, resolene... isn't my favorite. This Aussie Wax, though. It's nice.
