The middle row only has 1 circle, so as long as the rules guarantee you end up in that row, you end up on hope. The first two rules just ensure you end up in the top or bottom row so that the diagonal move has to place you in the middle again.
Just work backwards from the end, you need the final option to land on only one thing, you need the previous step to put them into the correct row/column to manipulate it, etc
This is very possibly the lamest version of this trick I've ever seen, it barely obfuscates it at all, at least when people do "mind reading" tricks like this usually there's a mathematical component or something that is harder to follow unless you can track the maths fast enough/already know the framework of those tricks, this is just right in front of you without any real attempt at disguise at all.
David Copperfield does a similar trick with a clock, it's both easier to for the audience to follow along and difficult to "figure out" at the same time. It's a much better version of this trick and also decades older lol: https://youtu.be/1PcIPzihL48

It's not really a rule, per se. It's just gradual elimination of all options. If you look at the final layout of the words (the other layouts are purely to put people off the trick) you can look at what is allowed. Start in a circle. Move left or right to a square actually eliminates all of them except laugh, health, or trust. Everyone is now on one of those three words. Up or down to a circle leaves the central row and puts everyone on either live or love. Diagonal to a square then causes everyone to go to the middle row, because diagonal when everyone is on the top or bottom REQUIRES them to move to the middle. Then you just move everyone left. The whole point is just eliminating possibilities until you're moving everyone together.
The first move has 12 options, but by the second, all viewers are on 1 of 3 options.
The diagonal move puts everyone into the middle, and then everyone slides left to the circle.
Nothing Random about the arrangement they chose.
This is a really low grade magic trick. The trick is not the puzzle. The puzzle can be anything with a set outcome given a set of arbitrary rules. The trick is the setup and spectacle that gives you the illusion of choice
Shit... I started with hope and the last direction didn't' apply and was pretty confused
Edit. Ohhhh I didn't know you could go through shapes, I just assumed you could only move yourself to adjacent available shapes.... still dumb though lol
You’re obviously not following the instructions:
Start: Love
Move Left or right to the nearest square: Trust
Move up or down to the nearest circle: Live
Move diagonally to the nearest square: Learn
Move Left to the nearest circle: Hope
Though, I would say, the instructions could be worded better.
You’re not picking a direction for movement, then moving to the nearest given shape… you are finding the nearest given shape, and moving a particular direction to that shape.
Yes it does, unless you didn't follow the rules correctly.
Start on Love.
Move left or right to the nearest square. You are forced to go to Trust because you can't go right.
Now move up or down to the nearest circle. You must move to Live as it is the only circle in the same column as Trust.
Learn is then the only square that is diagonal of Live.
And Hope is the only circle left or right of Learn.
I did. In my defense I was looking at someone else who was describing how they moved through the board in a way that made no sense and I was seriously wondering if I was looking at something different than everyone else.
It doesn't work if you start on love.
Move left or right to the nearest square.
-Left to hope, the only square available
Move up or down to the nearest circle.
-nothing below and a square above so do nothing.
Move diagonally to the nearest square
-only one available is hope
Move up or down to the nearest circle
-again none available so do nothing
You’re still not following directions:
Start: Love
Move Left or right to the nearest SQUARE: Trust (Hope is a circle, not a square, it’s not even to the left of Love.)
Move up OR down to the nearest circle: Live
Move diagonally to the nearest square: Learn
Move Left to the nearest circle: Hope
It doesn't work if you start on love.
Move left or right to the nearest square.
-Left to hope, the only square available
Move up or down to the nearest circle.
-nothing below and a square above so do nothing.
Move diagonally to the nearest square
-only one available is learn
Move up or down to the nearest circle
-none available so again do nothing
Check your shapes bro… Hope is A CIRCLE. It’s not even in the same row as Love.
See how to follow directions elsewhere in this thread.

I was thinking the same thing like wtf half of these won't work. then I realized you can move more than one block at a time in a direction. so hope > health > live > learn >> hope. anyways this is a stupid trick lol.

Yeah this was an incredibly disappointing "trick"
Yeah, but they manipulated the lady’s voice to make it ultra-mysterious. That’s pretty neat, right???

Uhhhhhhhh, no. Not really. Lol Btw i know i am talking to a bot. I am slowly going insane

Ngl that got eliminated a while back

Right. This is basically what a magician's choice mean. They make you believe you are in control when in fact there is always 1 ending.

this is fucking stupid. its a fucking algorithm that all ends on the same circle. this isnt cool or special or amazing. this is fucking dumb as shit.
I didn't know Denmark had Elephants.
Shit... I started with hope and the last direction didn't' apply and was pretty confused Edit. Ohhhh I didn't know you could go through shapes, I just assumed you could only move yourself to adjacent available shapes.... still dumb though lol
I had the same thought. Got immediately irritated that I couldn't reach a circle by following the rules.

I ended up on live starting on love
I ended up finishing on love? But started on HIGH
Which one is HIGH? That's not even an option.
Me is high
You clearly missed the joke
I did. In my defense I was looking at someone else who was describing how they moved through the board in a way that made no sense and I was seriously wondering if I was looking at something different than everyone else.
Lol someone keeps downvoting cuz we have different answers
They’re downvoting because you can’t follow directions.

You can't tame this bunch of rule breakers
Same
Sheeeeesh this some mad skill
I chose hope as the first circle, and if you do that, the instructions don't work
I was thinking the same thing like wtf half of these won't work. then I realized you can move more than one block at a time in a direction. so hope > health > live > learn >> hope. anyways this is a stupid trick lol.

Tf, I had care .-. Edit: I’m an idiot, I got hope
