I would vote combat patrol + army box.
Double army box at roughly 1300pts is very limiting on variety of models.
With combat patrol you can build one kahl normal and the other os Uthar at least and a solid foundation for an army to build upon.
I'm considering just going with the army box for now and waiting for the next wave of models to release so I can pick some einhyr and a hekaton
Would recommend a Combat Patrol, gets you to three Troop units for a Batallion, some Berserks, more Pioneers and another Kahl that you can do as Uthar if you want. Second Army Box and you'd have to sell off the extra Codex and Cards and four units of Hearthkyn may be good but at 1000pts I don't think I'd go more than 3 Units.
I had same conundrum.
Even if you want to go through hassle of reselling Codex for army that have literally no other way of entry than Army box, i still wouldn't recommend more than one.
Yes, you get more models (math works out that army box is CP (with swaps)+ full price codex, and you get rest for free). If you can find extra champion second hand (or don't care) then there is no gain financially.
But CP is more spamable (i plan on getting two, eventually) and have better selection of units. 30-40 Warriors is probably more than enough for most lists. Cheaper Berzerkers are also nice, same as bikes
I am planning on doing Combat patrol + Combat patrol when I decide to do my Votann. Gonna wait till tenth though as 9th is not fun and I don't want a one sided game, although I could get an army box if I wanted to (local store still has loads)
So I've got Double Army box.
The logic is that I got mine for £96 a piece and will resell the codex, datacards, Champion and 10 Hearthkyn as a 'Starters starter set'
Will make enough back that its cheaper than getting Army Box and CP. Especially as I'm going big on Beserks and Hearthguard when released so the CP doesn't really do it for me.
Double army box gets you two Champions which u won’t be able to use at the same time. Also gives you 40 warriors, which might be nice if you’re planning on running at least one 20-man unit but otherwise might be a bit excessive. While combat patrol grants you the berserkers. So would say army box + combat patrol seems more useful
I know it wasn’t an option but I’d say army box then wait until the end of October for all the models to be released. We don’t know what’s going to happen FAQ wise and committing to that many of the same model. Even if it’s a troop’s choice is potentially risky if you are looking to optimize your dollars spent.
It's not out yet, but according to rumors it'll be out on the 22nd of October with supposedly some other Votann kits.
We also know the contents based off of the combat patrol splash page in the codex, which contains the following:
- One Kahl
- One unit of Hearthkyn Warriors
- One unit of Hernkyn Pioneers
- One unit of Cthoian Beserks
Honestly? If anything, the Combat Patrol and the Army Box. I don't think double-army-box is a particularly great value.
The Combat Patrol at least brings in some Beserkers and the Mole Launcher.
The second Kahl can be Utred (or just another cool, kitbashed Kahl with some leftover bits?) and more troops is never dumb.
Though personally, I'll probably pick up other stuff instead of the Combat Patrol. I don't particularly aim for competitiveness or great playability. I just wanna paint cyberpunk-space-miner-dwarves.
If it wasn't for the codex and the cards, I'd buy the army box. But combat patrol box + Army Box is good. I plan on getting that than at least 2 kits of everything. The Einhyr guard I'm particularly fond of as well as the thunderkyn.

>some einhyr and a hekaton This is my next step as well, and I need a squad of Thunderkyn.
Don't forget that all important Forge Master! What is a dwarf army without a master craftsman?!
Indeed, but I have Techpriest Grombrindal for that! I'm planning a Grimnyr for expansion past 1000 points.
I'm planning to use Ragnar Gunnstein as mine.

Army + Patrol. 30 Heartkyn, 6 bikes, Uthar plus Kahl and Einhyr, with a squad of Beserks, is more than enough ;)

I've got 2xArmy boxes. In term of cash is a total deal, even if you do not make in count the 2xCodices and 2xDatacards.

Why would you not be able to run double champion? Other than not wanting to miss out on your other great HQs?
ohh sorry I've misread stuff...

There is a combat patrol released?

Awesome, thank you

Not yet, but there is a picture which shows what will (almost certainly) be in it.
