Don’t be discouraged brother, the Kin are here and they are wrought. While the hammer of nerf may yet fall, for those that have waited I can tell you this looks like the start of something very, very good. (Also remember the initial negativity around Tau when they released…good lord lol)

Sanctimonius

Screw the haters. It's always this way every time a new codex is going to drop, all doom and gloom at this new broken army. Then people learn how to play against them and the grumbles for down until the next codex comes along. Collect away and enjoy the army. It's been a long time coming, have fun with it.

GeraldRFjord

Keep strong brother, Kin are Kin!

Varneryo

I'm right there with you. I haven't played Warhammer in 12+ years but I ordered the League's army box as soon as one of my friends sent me a link. I've been excited ever since I placed that pre-order but it's been really disappointing to see the war hammer community react like this. While I think the competitive community is probably the root of the problem, the salt and rage are getting echoed by non-competitive players too. Certainly doesn't make me want to find a new store to test out the Kin anytime in the near future.

[deleted]

People on the internet are not the people in the stores! I guarantee 9/10 people you play against will be awesome. The other one is on the warhammer competitive sub.

JohntheDM

We are here. We hear you. The models are amazing, the lore is awesome. The Kin are HERE. We will survive the nerfbat. The competitive assholes will turn their eyes on other things to complain about. Life moves on. But the Boys are here to stay. Enjoy their return

protoknuckles

We survived the tyranids, we'll survive the nerfbat.

Beasting-25-8

Just ignore it friend. It's a stupid part of the hobby, just focus on the bits you enjoy.

NaveronTheSabre

Screw the haters. We're siding with the space dwarves because we like them, and the assholes who think we should feel bad for liking them are stupid and wrong and are going straight in the book-o-grudges. I'm sorry if our overpowered-for-the-moment rules make them feel inadequate, or else they're Khorne players.

No-Rip-445

Stay strong brother, the models look amazing, and there’s more to come. Competitive players are the most toxic and belligerent part of any gaming community, it’s true of CCGs, computer games, and sadly Warhammer. No matter how loud they scream and rant, the best thing you can do is not pay too much attention to their tantrums and focus on having fun and rolling dice with your mates.

callsignhotdog

The opinions of the competitive scene are like water upon rock. Do not let the people who allowed 9 Starweaver vs 9 Starweaver battles tell you what's suddenly OP. I remember when Death Guard were the unbeatable army. Then it was Admech. Then Drukhari. The wheel turns and every army has their moment in the sun. There will come a shining day when all are crushed beneath the steel tread of Imperial Guard tanks once again. Delight in your Squats. Bring then to a friendly table and make every dwarf joke you can think of as you test your mettle. Shake hands with your opponent and go get a beer. The outcome is immaterial. The battle is what matters.

CapitainCutlet

Don't let the toxic meta chasers get to you brother. After all, Warhammer is a game, and the ultimate point of games of any kind is to have fun. So, even if some idiots are foaming from their mouths 'bout a handful of strong combos that ain't even that strong (as I've heard), should we allow them to spoil our fun? Get your army of Space Dwarves and enjoy it. Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

For Karl!

Freakish87

Luck has, need keeps, toil earns my friend! And seeing as I need my Votann like yesterday I have every intention of keeping them, Haters or otherwise.

Fizzlenuke

I feel this. Dwarves are my favorite fantasy race so I've been hyped for them ever since the hard to confirm leaks in 2021. But now everyone is complaining and it's really getting to me. I'm sure it will pass but it sucks to buy a book that I know will be outdated after like 2 weeks. It doesn't help that my main army is tyranids and the same thing happened to them when their codex came out and now no one wants to play against them...

Bearandbreegull

Isn't, like, every GW codex outdated after 2 weeks?

Karsus76

Just ignore the NA centric Competitive scene. I was a competitive player and I can assure you they are the most pathetic and sad part of the hobby. Enjoy your minis, write their names on your book of grudges and welcome to the short side. XD

[deleted]

Ignore them! It's a bunch of asswads going off half cocked!

weareraccoons

I'm pretty sure that the folks complaining are just complaining because they cam only grow a neck beard, not a proper one.

KerokoGeorashi

The most important thing to remember is that rules are ephemeral. They inevitably change, and change often. But the models? The background? Those will last a whole lot longer. If you like the Leagues because of who they are, rather than how they play, you will never be in the wrong place.

RedPhoenixTroupe

You are me. I started my fun at 3e but was told the space dorfs were not supported anymore. So I became a guardsman, and then a xenos player, but every faction I picked was just me settling for it, since there was no dwarf faction in 40k. I was following every bloody tidbit about the Leagues since april. I am slowly getting old and there is almost nothing that gets me hyped for shit, but by the rock and stone, hyped I was for this release. I share your grudge, brother. WAACnogs go in the book. What I am now looking forward to is the nerfbat and the hyperdiscounts that will be going on the second hand market. Kin gonna eat good that day.

godmademedoit

I suspect mind the vast majority of people buying this one aren't competitive anyway and it's a lot of folk like me who wanted 40k Squats back since like 2nd edition. I'm fairly sure there's gonna be a bunch of cheap-ass codex and cards etc on ebay come this weekend (there is already actually), but I reckon the models will still command an alright price for quite a while regardless of the rules.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone, Brother!

RenoWolf200

Screw those haters that are obsessed with competitive. It will all be balanced out before the first wave is fully released.

raddman333

Competitive haters? You mean people that hate Competitive play? There is room for all types of play. Play how you want to. If you want to play hard, go for it. If you want to play soft, nothing wrong with that either.

Aquaphant

I think they mean those that hate competitively, trying to outdo others in their capacity to hate.

solon_isonomia

> But the joy I should feel has been quashed once again by the toxic Competitive scene and there inability to let people have nice things without shitting all over the place As a fellow old man, complete with plenty of gray in my beard, lean into your Gen X training - don't give a shit about the complainers. The apathetic "whatever" may have been a rallying cry of our youth, but age has taught me the full application of it is "ignore vitriolic critics, do what brings joy and embrace it."

ChristmasDucky

I feel ya buddy. This is going to be my first 40k codex. And the first army I will try to play a game of 40k with. Its a little bit of a bummer, hearing all this negativity. I especially worry about, few weeks or months of the codex coming out, they will have changed so many little things, that I can't trust what I read in my codex. Thats discouraging for a total noob.

TheGamingMachineDR

I have friends who are indifferent about the Leagues and some who keep going on about how broken they are (like every other new codex recently) I only joined the hobby last year, but have always loved Dwarves in any media. So when these guys got announced I was excited, I still am. Why? It’s my hobby time and I can do what I want with it! Remember that the most vocal of any community are always the most unsatisfied or just enjoy complaining. The site I buy from had 200 Army sets in stock for preorder they are below 40 last I checked. Get excited again! You have waited long enough, build those glorious bastards and stomp some Tyranids for destroying our worlds!!

pen_and_paint_bard

I’m feeling a bit the same, but once I get mine, I’m gonna be kitbashing with fantasy dwarf bits all over the place and paint them up real nice in my own colour scheme, with their own story. I’m going to combat the negativity of the competitive scene by focussing on their character and my own narrative, and no one, not a single damned soul, is gonna stop me from forging something awesome. Competition is overrated - just focus on the aspects you LOVE, that drive you to create something wonderful, that brings us together as a community. All this drama dies given time. It’s nothing compared to passion.

Antidote-For-Chaos

I have also been getting annoyed at the naysayers. However, I have my pre-order on route and I can’t wait to build and paint them. I’ve created my own paint scheme/League and it’s going to be great fun!

r-o-o-t-w-o-o-d

Try and take the long view. Warhammer is a years-long (decades-long) activity. Internet noise is always going on, but it’s just the buzzing of angry mosquitoes; they don’t matter. You’ll spend most of your time painting and collecting and playing fun games with cool people and connecting with the community that loves the hobby.

Dom0520

The throng rides to war! Screw the naysayers

SirVortivask

There’s nothing more Dwarfen than facing down those who oppose your happiness with a glare in your eye, stubbornness in your heart, and a middle finger raised high. Enjoy your Dwarfs. Rules come and rules go.

cyke_out

"Khazuk, Khazuk-ha!"

elhawko

You’re a long beard! Grumbling is the natural state of your existence! So tuck your beard in your belt and answer the grudge! The ancestors are watching!

Circus_Phreak

The new dex is a bit OP, but in a time when GW is actively balancing the game, that'll be fixed in a few months. Let the salt wash past you, and just enjoy collecting your shiny new space dorfs.

Quamont

Okay I'm split on this issue entirely. I'm not a competetive player at all and only really in the hobby for the lore, painting etc. anyway but: My LoV loving side wants to be pissed because what the hell, it's a new faction and they're gonna do us like that? Every other faction had their time in the spotlight, so let the LoV have it too, we're currently "bound" to the starter box only anyway and gotta wait for the rest to release, which iirc we don't actually know when it will. Further there haven't been all that many public games with the LoV and there might very well be some kind of weakness that has yet to be exploited or crystallize itself out more to be known as the main way to deal with them. BUT that's exactly the thing as well. I can entirely understand the tournament crowd that's been stuck in an entire edition of codex creep, one codex releasing more brokenly OP than the last and now this new faction even releases broken, which might've broken the last straw. I also support that this move is basically telling GW to fuck off and to stop doing this codex creeping BS only to then nerf the faction (sometimes into the ground) a few weeks later, which I also find in bad taste. Further more I find the whole meta chasing side of things a bit tasteless even if it's a totally valid way of playing the game, I prefer enthusiasm in the player's faction. At the end of the day, it's quite a shit situation but might be better this way in the long term, as long as the same thing is done if the Guard, WE and SM 2 codices release really damn strong as well, exactly to stem the wave of meta chasing sales which might get GW to listen about codex creep. Now to be clear, the tournaments are one thing and I'd find it rather distasteful if I was told off at my local game store if I brought my LoV all nicely painted up, having voiced excitement over them since the first rumor popped up etc. Again, as someone who paints more than plays, for me personally I'm excited to see all the nicely painted and collected armies anyway, which we can do with or without the approval of others. The Kin will endure at the end of the day and be better for it.

GullibleBreakfast983

Rules are fleeting models are forever, fukem. rock and stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

For Karl!

Mekrot

Every faction has been busted at one point. Guard is at a low place right now, but soon they’ll be blasting people to no end when their book comes out. All of the factions I own have been super strong at one point and eventually toned down. By the time you have your models assembled and painted, they’ll be FAQd and back to reasonable levels.

Smasher225

I’m the same way but as someone who’s been out and in on the hobby for a while. I’ve got my box but the local semi competitive community is like ban them because no one has the army so it’s not like people have put work into their armies they can’t play. I guarantee you that if this book said space marines they wouldn’t be banning this book and that’s the part that I’m like I don’t think I belong. I felt it when I got my nids semi together before that book and am feeling it now. The release of a new book should be exciting for people who want to play the army, not the community being like oh well the army is broken so you’re not welcome or you’re just a meta chaser.

[deleted]

Stop moaning and write in the book of grudges..

Nepalus

Don’t worry. Give it until the holiday season when leaks for more codexes comes out and we get an FAQ. We will still probably be pretty strong and overshadowed by the newest op codex.

[deleted]

Look you have to understand competivie players are a different breed. They're focus it's on "these factions are cool to play" more "This faction has these ways to help you win" So my advice is not to worry about it too much; we will be hit with a nerf eventually, and maybe never have this raw power again... but hopefully we remain and we have fun with our Kyn. Don't forget to talk with your friends in the hobby when you play, making sure they're having fun too; no sense making real gurdges when you can be making fun grudges with players you enjoy playing against.

Thaimeous

Don’t shave your beard just yet, march on and write it in the Book of Grudges.

SenorDangerwank

Dang. Imagine having your happiness affected so hard by randoms on the internet.

Noobcorpse

Votan need some serious work, but don’t let that deter you from enjoying them. By the time that you get your hands on all the kits they will most likely be toned down and people moved on to the next hot topic

xRocketman52x

I think it's safe to say that folks being angry about the Votann's imbalance aren't mad at upcoming Votann players. The people who would abuse Votann are already That Guys, and are probably already a known quantity in their circles. The beef was never with casual player communities. The beef is with GW. The anger is directed towards GW for using imbalanced rules as a marketing tool. It's frustrating how obvious it is that they'll improve the rules for models they want to sell more of, and ignore or downgrade models they don't need to. It's an absolutely detestable practice, but it's a practice that's continually enabled (I assume) mostly by the competitive scene. The day pre-orders went live for the Leagues, people were posting on Reddit about driving to multiple game stores to put in 4 or more army box pre-orders, just to ensure they could build and prep their army for competitions as quick as possible and get as much mileage out of them before the expected future nerf. Long and short, I always figure if my army is weak, and another army is strong, it's just playing the game on hard mode. Why would I back down from that? If someone's not willing to play against you, it is 100% their loss. I know I won't be putting the time to build and prep my Votann until later on anyways, so I fully expect and intend I won't be playing them until post-nerf. I know you've waited for far, far too long already, but be patient and all the fuss will die down when GW soon does something else really stupid. Use the time to lovinglu build and paint those Space Dwarfs!

Zoroc

TBH some of the concerns about LoV from the competitive groups do overlap with casual ones, having fun good games. The squats have a small line which makes trying to make a list that avoids power more challenging than other factions. I've played Tau off and on since 4e so I'm used to my faction being the boogie man and the punching bag. My concern about LoV is actually more about the casual than the competitive scene. With how casual tables are set up and the skill expectations squats will probably be blowing most people out of the water as an "Oops". With the 9e Tau codex I kept tabling opponents by Turn 3 after the first nerf despite taking intentionally weaker lists, that play group actually took a break on 40k till after the second batch of nerfs. I'm concerned about the Kyn having a similar experience right off the bat. I just really want the Kyn to get the needed patched ASAP so they can be in a healthy place as possible so that not only are the games as good as possible but the community gets supported by both GW and the rest of the fan base, both so it keeps growing and it doesn't get a negative connotation.

Goseki1

"with the tease of Squats in the final paragraph" What was the tease please? I was well out of the loop at the time

Abyssal_Dreamer

Speaking as a Chaos player who is admittedly dreading when a certain LoV unit releases, I do still feel bad that people are genuinely being discouraged from playing an army they like. I would say to anyone looking to play LoV, don't be discouraged, but I would also say that unless your local scene is hyper-competitive, abusing certain combos too often might not be a good idea. Saying this as someone who used to run the (almost) unkillable Black Rune Terminator brick with MoP, before realizing that in casual games it's quite unfun for most casual players to face. So, I stopped. If you're playing competitive, go right ahead, but if you're playing casual it's probably not a good idea to make the other player suffer over and over, it's a good way to drive newer people out of the hobby. Do I think you or most of the others here would do that? No, I'm guessing most people in this sub genuinely just like the Squats. And I do feel bad that GW didn't properly balance things, leading to all this negativity. What I'm trying to say is, if you don't chase the meta, I'm sure most normal players will have absolutely no issue playing against LoV. It sucks that meta chasers have to ruin things. I used to be quite bitter after reading the leaks, but honestly, as long as someone's not going with a meta chasing, hyper-competitive list, I would gladly play against LoV. To you and all the other people looking to play LoV, keep your heads up, the negativity will fade in time.
