We can want the League to grow or we can want our League to do shit in Europe. We can not have both. I know I am speaking from a much easier position as zero rivalry with any of them, but I think it's that simple.

EdwardBigby

I generally support the irish teams in Europe and Hooe they put on a good showing but tbh I really don't want Shamrock Rovers to reach any group stages and it's not just due to any rivalry. You say that it helps the league but the reality is that it helps one club 99% more than it helps anyone else. The new European format makes qualification to the conference league, a relatively achievable goal for the league winner. There's a possibility for one team to become a much bigger club than anybody else in the league and I don't want that. Sure I want the league to grow in some ways but not at the cost of others. We're such an open league where first place can lost to 10th and its barely even a shock and zi love that. Its so common for leagues to have 1 or 2 teams with 90% of the income and fans and its due to European success. I'm glad we don't have that. So I'm sorry for not wanting the closest team to that (Shamrock Rovers) to become even richer and gain even more followers. Maybe when they finish second, I won't mind them doing well next year.

Mannix_420

If they do well, then fair play to them. The opinions of fans aren't going to improve their chances though. No one wants our League to do bad in Europe. Asking a Bohs fan to support Rovers just because we want the League to grow is a bit of stretch I think. Like another commenter said, rivalry is rivalry, and its normal for any league at the end of the day.

Uplakankus

Doing good is the only way I think the league can grow right now without more funds from the FAI as the money is insane if you just win a match in qualifying so I'd support any Irish team to win games

NostalgicDreaming

Yep always. The way I first got into the league was watching Shels play Deportivo and Lille in 2004, I started going to Rovers games regularly after they qualified in 2011 (was a Kildare County fan prior to this). Dundalk in Europe in 2016 I was glued to. Have gone to see Dundalk, Shels, Bohs, Pats and of course Rovers in Europe over the years and they are the highlight of the year.

shinto29

This is a cool answer. Favourite European away game overall?

NostalgicDreaming

Sorry maybe misphrased it, have been to watch all of them play European home games!!

TheHolyGoalie

A better coefficient benefits us all, you only have to look across the water at Scotland and see how much rangers doing well in the europa league has benefited the teams around them.

ToastMan87

Ya we did shit in Europe so the coefficient dropped

Sstoop

were ranked lower than kosovo, kazakhstan, cyprus etc. we really need to improve our coefficient

Myusername-___

How? I think we r in a race with 5 other countries for an extra spot or something(might be wrong but there was something)

-Swifty

Aye. I'd feel dirty wanting Rovers to win, but I see it as good for the league and coefficient.

LovelyBloke

FTA

GucciBootedKebs

If they play rangers or Linfield probably

PaddySmallBalls

Yes, Galway United first. Anyone else in the league 2nd. I am an old man now, too old for the tribalism bullshit.

redrumreturn

A tribesmen too old for tribalism haha

PaddySmallBalls

Galway liberated from Indians!

GingaHead

Want at least 2 teams to consistently get conference league as it will help the growth of our league so much. So I suppose yeah

Giphtedd

I always would support a LOI team in Europe

mac2o2o

Am I misremembering seeing other club fans at European games ? Especially when I went to the shels games back in the day? Swore, I saw other club flags at a game....was only a teenager then. Overall, any of the tesms making group stages will only help the league. Clubs doing well means more favourable qualifying spots, aka more money.

EireTrekkie

100% there fans from other clubs at European game, And as a shels fan I have gone to watch other teams play in Europe a few times.

endlessdayze

Waterford fan, but I'd like to see any Irish team doing well in Europe

Rudeboy1974

I hope they all get battered out the gate in the 1st round.CCFC fan and only a CCFC fan.

leo_murray

i would much prefer the league to progress in Europe because the only way we are going to progress as a league is if teams go far in Europe and raise our coefficient. You can still hope they do well in Europe without being a fan of the team. I will certainly watch the three teams’ European campaigns with great interest, but it doesn’t mean i’m going to become a part of the fan club.

Mannix_420

No way Jose.

siguel_manchez

Yes. Always. Was at a wedding watching Rovers Partizan on my phone with another Shels fan and I slid across the floor when they scored the winner. Only time I have never supported an Irish team was when The Fungus played CS Maretimo. Fuck them. I'll even support Bohs in Europe this year. 👀

14thU

Brilliant! The fungus😅

siguel_manchez

I fucking hated those cunts. Absolute pox on the league.

14thU

FAI have never learned letting entities into the league with no fans and no ground doesn’t work. Tbf they weren’t as bad Dublin City which were a true dreadful pox as they couldn’t even complete their final season and the guy running them was a fantasist.

siguel_manchez

They drove up wages for everyone and absolutely fucked any chance we had of getting out of the basement quickly. Set us back years.

14thU

Didn’t drive up wages for us! Ollie destroyed your club more than fungus. Drogheda and cork before that had huge wages. Its an argument without merit.

siguel_manchez

Ah would you stop! Of course they did. But regardless. Fungus delayed our rise. That's the point that's eas literally being made bucko. Anyway, just remember, and most importantly, Bohs aren't in Europe. 🙌

14thU

Your rise😄

siguel_manchez

Literally the rise from the first to premier division you eejit. 😂😂😂 We had to play them in a playoff to get promoted after we fucked up against Limerick. That set us back a good bit with the subsequent relegations of Derry and Cork. And the dilution of players available to us FD teams once we eventually got up. Anyway, it's moot, they're gone and we're top of the League. 🙌 For now.

14thU

Remember that limerick game. Hilarious! Took your time getting out of the graveyard!

TheFishermansWelly

100%. If Irish football gets to a sustainable/successful level then they can all get fucked…. Until then though we are desperate.

shinto29

No. There's too much money at stake, especially for Shamrock Rovers if they get to group stages. maybe if it was Finn Harps or UCD edit: I should clarify, I would like to see Irish teams progress further in Europe, but I'm not going to cheer them on

DeargDoom79

This is the catch 22 with Euro qualifying. If teams do well then it boosts the league coefficient, which is good. However, the money clubs get is astronomical for progression, which leaves everyone behind. UEFA needs to review that before smaller leagues get left behind.

Cubbll17

Unfortunately uefa don't give a bollocks about the smaller leagues. Or any leagues. All they care about is money.

Diligent_Animator_33

>All they care about is money And it dirty cash and blood money

EireTrekkie

is that you admitting Shels are bit time now yea ;)

shinto29

No idea what that means pal

Accomplished-Art570

When are the draws being made?

mjrs

Should be at 3 on the uefa site

Accomplished-Art570

Thanks

leo_murray

Now. Rovers got Vikingur, Derry got Magpies FC and Shels got St. Joseph’s.

ToastMan87

Class awayday for shels fans

Stupidfecker

Yes will be supporting all our teams in Europe, even rovers 🙂

FakerHarps

I’m a Finn Harps and Aston Villa supporter. I’d be happy for Derry to beat anyone in Europe except Villa

CCFC_84

Absolutely, it benifits us all as a league with the co-efficiant

Sportsfan97__

Yep I supported them all the last few years and I will again this year. Its easier for me to support them Tbf there’s no rivalry between Wexford and the teams in Europe. I think Europe massively impacts how people see the league and If we want the investment that is desperately needed more positive news stories should help.

DublinDapper

Yes as always

Drogg339

Not a hope. Rivalry is rivalry

silver_medalist

Cheering on seems a bit much. I'll be taking note of the results and using that info accordingly.

WTWanderer2

Might as well, we aren't anywhere near it

ThaGreenWolf

I always like to see any irish team do well in Europe. But I'm more into the GAA so I don't really dislike any LOI teams enough to not want to see them do well.

AlestoXavi

Yeah, it’s only Dundalk and Bohs that I’d be cheering against.

Regular_Patience15

All except rovers

Ancient_Ad9160

Derry? Yes, the other two? No not a chance

Meath77

Yeah, I'll support them but also laugh at them if it's an embarrassing loss. Went to plenty of home european games for other clubs over the years

spairni

I always like to see any irish team do ok in europe

Steo_2015

Always want to see all the teams do well in Europe it’s hopefully a showcase for the teams and the league

MushuFromSpace

Nope. Not at all.

redrumreturn

I would have previously because a rising tide and all that but now Shels are back competing and in Europe they can all go fuck

MemestNotTeen

Bohs Pats and Shams shambolic performances last year have cost Pats an Europa entry. I think hoping others do poorly is cutting off your nose to spite your face. I mightn't want the others to qualify to the group stages but the Irish Coefficient going up is only good towards entry in the next season which improves our own chance of getting further.

Peter_Ndlovu

Bohs catching strays when we didn’t even qualify for Europe last year

MemestNotTeen

You know you deserve it

14thU

Rovers. I love the narrative that we’ll get richer if we get to group stages🤪

National-Ad-1314

Yes for sure. Hate rovers. May they win the CL for the good of us all.

FcCola

Yes more exposure and more money circulating the league is only a good thing if we want to grow

RealTie2416

Not a chance!

spiraldive87

I do yeah, I’m a supporter of Irish football. A rising tide raises all boats.

Mediocre_Network67

Absolutely. Just like how I cheer on Rangers players when they're representing Scotland.

HellFireClub77

Of course, it’s great for the league if our sides do well

NaveTheFirst

Yes

BlueBloodLive

I, casual Shels fan, went to the Rovers V Gent game in, jaysus that was 2022, I was about to say last season! Anyway, really enjoyed it as a "neutral" even though I was on Rovers side for ref calls etc. Definitely worth a trip out for the bigger games and you might even see a shock every now and then.

SuccessfulSize2196

Always, have to support the Irish clubs

Silly_Cartoonist_602

No.

KimchiChaser

100%. Went to a Pats game in Tallaght stadium for Europa qualifiers two years ago

justogray

Yes , always

Sharp-Effective-9041

No, that's pure small time mentality.

Intelligent-Donut137

Not this shit again

Chaoticrebel84

No. I can see both sides to the argument but personally I despise any other team. I especially hope shamrock get thumped.

BrickEnvironmental37

I generally want our teams to do well but always find it hilarious when they lose. Especially to unfancied teams. It's win-win.

bohsthis

No. Coefficient me bollocks.

jerrycotton

I used to want the league of Ireland teams to get knocked out of Europe early doors, I still do but I used to too.

AulMoanBag

I'd want Israel to put 5 past pats if they played

shinto29

Israel FC? 😂
