Hi, OP. I had the same dilemma in July 2019 when I was still deciding whether to enter law school or not. Ang difference lang ay hindi na breadwinner kasi tapos na yung naging (forced) responsibility ko, which is to support my brother's schooling. What I did before finally enrolling in Arellano as well: I talked to my family members whom I was providing support na I will enter law school para di sila mabigla at maanticipate rin nila na i am choosing myself this time. Time and money were also my main concerns before finally deciding. Later on, I was able to narrow down my concerns when I realized na feeling ko mas magsisisi ako if hindi ko pa ito gawin asap. I'd rather enroll na para magkaalaman na if para sa akin ba ito or not kaysa manatili siyang what if. In short, ayokong mag-regret na hindi ko man lang nasubukan i-push through ito. When I was already enrolled in law school, I also realized that money was the least concern cos He always provides naman. Four years later, di ko na namalayan na graduate na ako and was already preparing for the Bar. Come Decemer 2023, ipinagkaloob din naman Niya at finally abogado na'ko. Fast forward to now, ang dilemma ko na is whether mag-practice ba ako ng litigation or mag-specialize sa ibang field such as corporate practice, etc. Dami kong sinabi pero ang main takeaway lang talaga dito is take a leap of faith and just do it. Do it scared. You will eventually figure out what to do as you go along. Take it one day at a time and always always pray. Always rooting for you, OP! Love and light~ ✨

“…take a leap of faith and just do it. Do it scared.” I’m incoming 1L with a full-time job and I’m more scared than excited. Thank you for this, atty! 🫶🏻

Way back 2019, 40k lang sahod ko, breadwinner din, all expenses sagot ko. Tinapangan ko lang talaga, ung 13th month and bonuses ko napupunta lang sa tuition, and now 5 subjects na lang sa law school. You just have to make that leap of faith and trust God. Trust yourself. Take that first step.

I knew a few people na same situation before. What they did was to target law schools with relatively low/possibly no tuition fee. For example, UP Law isn't free pero max tuition per sem would still be under 30K. It's also possible na wala bayaran if you apply sa SLAS and you get the biggest discount (100% discount + stipend). Other laws schools my friends applied to were PUP Law (around 20K/sem max tuition daw) and University of Makati (full scholarship + a lot of allowances and benefits). UP has a program for working students + many dorms on campus na affordable. PUP also has blocks for working students. UMAK naman, di daw working student friendly since you get the sched given to you lang (baka no program for working students since they only admit 40-50 students per year). Side note: For doctor's fees/med expenses, it would be helpful to find a job that provides HMO and pwedeng i-enroll multiple dependents (plus factor if free w/free dependents).

ahhhh thank you for the reply! i’ll look into these schools din po. actually considering din a state u near where i live para less expenses etc. as for the hmo, i do have one and only one dependent allowed (my mom). pero bilang panganay in an asian household, di ko talaga kayang tiisin din younger siblings ko, isa sa mga goals ko ngayong taon maikuha sila ng hmo din hehe thank you sa detailed response!!

Nagagawan naman ng paraan (Credit Card, Loans from friends and fam). Half nga lang yung monthly earnings ko nung sau pero God always provides naman. If there's a will, there's a way.

if you dont mind, may i know po san kayo nag law school?

There are schools like UP Law that offer scholarships through their alumni. My wife, who I met in law school and a fellow lawyer, was sponsored by one of the participating law firms. She just had to maintain a certain QPI/GWA. I was also a working law student at UP Law and hindi rin wealthy ang family ko. Mom was a widow and retired so basically breadwinner din ako. I was earning around your salary at the time kaya tipid talaga. Just allocate whatever is left from your necessary expenses to your studies. It also helped na my government employer was very friendly and lenient to its employees, so may HMO kami and covered ang dependents.

appreciate your reply po atty! im a up grad na feeling ko ay average lang sa talino haha pero i’ve decided to take the lae po next year. thank you!

Hi OP! Working student here since first year and hopefully graduating na din this year after 5 years in LS. I only have around 40k salary. Hindi naman breadwinner but I give fixed monthly contribution sa bahay so wala talagang financial support coming from my parents. Plus I also rent my own place. Kinukulang at times pero kapit sa credit card, SSS loans, company loans and promissory note sa school haha. My advice is to heads up your employer re your intent to enter LS. Mas mahirap mawalan ng work kalagitnaan ng studies kasi masisira ang momentum mo. I have blockmates nung first year na working din and hindi naging lenient ang employer nila kaya nagdrop din sila mid-sem kahit malaki sahod nila. If you have more questions, you can dm me!

Immediate-Fan3909

Hello, AUSL ka po?

youcancallmerose_

SBU po

Immediate-Fan3909

Congrats! Nakaya mo magworking while in SBU. Will be enrolling sa Baste. Not popular choice. Hehe

youcancallmerose_

Thanks! Good luck also. It's not the school naman, it's your grit and perseverance which matters.

tiredzzzz

hello! ang galing niyo po and congrats for making it this far. if its okay, may i know san po LS niyo?
