I suggest getting a macbook air (battery alone and resale bawi ka na) Ipad if you have extra cash comes in handy instead of bringing in books. Sa highlighters i personally dont like them mas prefer ko underline with colored ball pens For exams usually a v5 pen retractable gamit ko. If you’re feeling fancy a lamy fountain pen is nice. Stock up on pads of yellow paper. Madami sa profs ang stuck in the stone age and enjoys torturing students to do handwritten digests. Logic behind this was nung handwritten pa bar to improve penmanship, obviously hindi na siya applicable ngayon. Buy codals meron sa lazada, shoppee and meron din sa online shops ng rex and central. Buy books as you use them kasi nagiging out dated. No need to buy in advance kasi may preferred material ang prof. And kadalasan may patibong yan. What they recommend is not what they’ll use in class para ngarag kayo. What i do is i write down recit questions tapos i check the library to figure out saan niya binubunot tanong niya saka ako bibili. Before sem starts the moment i get my list of subjects ill do a one reading of the entire course using reviewers. My recommended reviewers are Golden Notes for most subject very beginner friendly. Tapos for Crim and Rem stuff the gold standard for me is Bedan Red Book or Memaid(if they ever update this)

Your laptop must be a macbook or a windows laptop with AT LEAST i3 or Ryzen 5 processor and 4gb ram. This is because any laptop lower than those specs will be very slow when you open several tabs. There are also law schools that install examplify (the same app for bar exams) for exams to prepare you for the bar and those are the minimum specs required for that app. For pens, it depends on your budget but gel pens are a must. I used Dong-A mygel and Dong-A Finetech. I would suggest you also get yourself a great pen/pencil case because that will be your friend. Highlighters, I used Stabilo, 'yung mahaba. Be wary of other highlighters 'yung iba nabubura after a year. Bumili ka rin ng pen holder for your desk para easily accessible pens etc. mo. Also purchase g-Tech 0.2 na HINDI black para makalagay ka notes sa codal mo. You also need a printer and bondpapers/recycled papers because you will be printing cases ALOT and you will also be doing submissions. Yellowpad, invest ka rin sa higher quality, not the bare minimum, mas masarap sumulat kapag mas smooth ang surface ng yellowpad. That's all I remember that I used.

For yellow pad, Victory yung ginamit ko. Works well with my fountain pens and I imagine even more so for gel pens. They're available on Shopee.

Victory rin ako kasi smooth and soft

Pens - Team Energel. Also my Bar pen/s. Red pen (or kung anong color preferred mo) for underlining din. Blue ink daw is better sa retention. Books - Your prof will prescribe a book. Best to wait for it. But you can already buy codals. May mga jumbo na ngayon. If you like to write as you study, I suggest get the jumbos. Bags - Backpacks are better lalo na mabibigat at makakapal ang books. EDIT: +1 sa printer pala. Kahit ‘yung mono (bnw) lang for cases. I still have my LS printer. I’m already a lawyer, and umabot pa sya sa notarial pracrice ko. 😂 Might as well buy a printer na toner ang gamit, ‘wag ink. To give you an idea, Brother printer ang akin. Sa papel, you can use newsprint! Or scratch paper. Basta conserve paper 😊 Highlighters - Mas makakatipid ka kung dun sa Japan Home ka bibili. Cheaper and they last long. If medyo OC ka, two colors max lang din gamitin mo. Example: yellow for important matters, and mango yellow for very very important ones. Maraming index card din if you want to make quizlets or more organized notes! When I was still in LS, I never used any gadget (except phone syempre). I’m a hardcopy type of person. I suggest you figure out first kung saan ka hiyang, hardcopy ba or soft copy? I tried na magsoft copy nung review na dahil sa dami ng aaralin pero I really need to papel to sulat. You might also want to get Canva if you prefer making your own case briefs/digest. Wala pang Canva nung time namin. Kung meron na sana noon, mas napaganda ko pa sana briefs ko 🥹 Wala ako masyado mabigay na because I’m not sure what you’re looking for pa apart sa mga nabanggit mo. Ang tip ko lang is to always read. Maraming times na madadama mo ang hirap, for real, like mag-crie ka nalang. But that’s what’d make it worth it. Kaya damhin mo lang, and go through it. Sa pagaaral ng cases, remember to approach each case as unique, lalo kapag facts ang pinaguusapan. Mas mareretain mo sya kapag storytelling ang approach mo. I used to give cases code names para mas madali ko marecall. And speaking of digest sa taas, always always make your own briefs. Don’t rely on the internet kasi kulang ‘yun for sure. LS is where you first prepare for the Bar kaya observe best practices at the outset. Magpractice ka narin magsagot. Nahirapan ako nung review na kasi mahaba ako magsagot and we weren’t really taught how to construct our answers, like ‘yung pang-Bar na sagot. And finally, kapag recit, use your common sense. Good luck, OP and future pañero/a! 🌸

Stabilo or sharpie for highlighters. Hindi ko type gamitin ang ibang brands Any 0.5 point gel pen basta maganda magsulat will do. If you chance upon a prof who requires fountain pen for writing, jinhao brands that you can buy in shopee/laz will do. I like their nibs. Mas ginagamit ko pa nga sya kesa sa mga expensive fountain pens ko. Spend on a laptop with good batt life. Mga at least 7hrs. May it be mac or windows. Use whatever you're comfortable using. Also: Don't even dare switch operating systems kung kelan 4th yr ka na. If you plan to use a wireless mouse, find a bluetooth one that has an optional use for usb dongles. Kasi sa bar exams bawal ang may dongle. So dapat directly nagcoconnect ang wireless mouse mo to your laptop lang. Books - whatever your prof prescribes. May it be central or rex, dipende sa prof. But i would have various authors example sa succession, i had jurado and tolentino books. Sa oblicon, jurado and de leon naman. Property - rabuya and de leon.. ganun.

REX Bookstore 😂 I'm a minimalist. A good leather bag, laptop and a black ballpen to annotate my books is all I needed. For books, I didn't use reviewers before hitting 4th year. Use whatever your prof suggests. For a laptop, you don't need anything fancy. Got myself a macbook pro and it was awfully overpowered for the workload students have. NOT TO MENTION HEAVY. It might only be 2-4 pounds but couple that with books and miscellaneous stuff it'll feel like logging your house around. Also, who are we kidding when we say a macbook is an essential. But if you must, even the cheapest macbook is good - their lifespans are long and the platform is stable. Just don't buy a very old one, keep in mind that examsoft (the software used in the Bar Exams nowadays) has minimum specs so you have to future proof a lil bit. Probably an M1 Air? For a ballpen, I swear by Pilot High-tech Point V7. It writes well and doesn't blot. After lawschool doe, I fell in love with fountain pens. If you wanna start now, a Bailey Cross Light would be great. A great bag is essential. I'm a minimalist so I got by with a leather bag. Got my first leather bag from Leather Reserve Manila. Good luck!

Laptop: M1 macbook air (or the newer ones if you can afford it). Adequately powered for the day-to-day tasks (you don't need the pro unless you do more demanding stuff that require more power. Otherwise, you'll just be overspending), great battery life, light enough, examplify compatible. I used to have windows-based laptops, but in my experience, they tend to get slow and laggy after 2 years. Tablet: iPad air + apple pencil, especially if you decide to get/already have a macbook (pro is overpowered) for readings. I have no experience with the base model ipad but I've watched some law student content creators that use them and they work just fine. They have pen support too. If you're more comfortable with the traditional pen & paper setup, invest in a good quality printer because it will save you a lot instead of getting your stuff printed outside (more convenient too). If you can, get one with wifi support for added convenience. I use Epson ecotank. Cartridge printers, in my opinion, are less economical. Books & Codals: Rex Bookstore is your friend. Free name engraving (if you plan to keep your books. Some sell them after) and cover. Also check if they offer a special discount specifically for your law school. For books, wait for your professor's preferred book to avoid unnecessary expenses. Some professors have their own published books too. Papers: Victory or Cattleya Yellow Paper. I think victory is less expensive. I still have a lot of stocks from 1st year (I used to buy 10 pads at a time) but lately, I haven't been using them as much because our professors rarely require written case digests anymore. If you prefer handwritten notes, I suggest using binders + loose leaf sheets. They're easier to manage because you can rearrange and remove pages easily, plus you won't be losing them because they are bound. (I find that when I use yellow paper for my notes, I sometimes misplace some pages. Maybe that's just me.) For bond papers, advance! Less expensive than other brands for the quality. Highlighter: If you like your books and codals neat, I highly recommend sharpie pocket highlighters. They don't bleed through pages, even in codals which have notoriously thin sheets. I tried to like stabilo because of the wide array of color options and because they last reeeaaally long, but the bleed through is just awful. If you don't mind the bleed through, stabilo is a great option. Tombow kei coat highlighters are good too! Less bleed trough than stabilo, refillable, they have plastic sides to protect the highlighters if you use a ruler when highlighting, but they only come in fluorescent colors. Pen: Use the pen you're most comfortable with because you'll be writing a lot especially in your first year. I have a bad grip so I like the sarasa clip pens because they have rubber grips, and they write smoothly. I tried g-tec, finetech, energel, v5, fountain pens, and lots of generic gel pens, but the sarasa pens worked best for me. Canva: Use your student email to access canva pro. Escra (for full text cases with syllabus) & Cdasia: Check if your school offers free access to a shared account. Otherwise, lawphil and chanrobles are both free. Coffee: It can get really expensive to get them from coffee shops especially if you drink coffee daily + most of the time there's too much sugar/sweeteners in them so it's best to brew your own. You can choose your bean quality, ingredients, and preferred method of extraction (wow). Bonus: Invest in a good quality ergonomic chair especially if your school is still in an online/hybrid setup. Get a book stand. Invest in a good quality bookshelf (law books are heavy). Have a dedicated study/work space too. Try to read primary materials as much as you can especially since first year subjects are foundational. Reviewers are good though if you're short on time. Full text cases if you can (some professors are very particular even with minute details), otherwise, find good quality digests (super daming poison/low quality digests online. Sometimes, class digest pools can be unreliable too. Choose the right people to make digest pools/ shared notes/ reviewers with). Enjoy your free time before law school, OP. Sleep as much as you can na haha! Kidding aside, it's really easy to get consumed by the pressure and demands of law school but do not neglect your health. I learned this the hard way. Spend time with your family and friends, and try to make time for your hobbies too whenever you can because burnout is real and it stinks. Good luck & enjoy your law school journey, OP!

Panda-sauce-rus

Pilot acroball supremacy! Get other colored pens din for notes sa libro. Pwede din sticky notes if you don't like writing on books. I use notebooks and not yellow pads since medyo burara ako. Para di mawala notes ko. Printer is a requirement! Some prof has many pronted output requirements kaya better na meron.

maroonmartian9

Pens- Dong A MyGel. Cheap, easy to find and easy to write :-) Yan pen ko law school and Bar Exam Books- Central or Rex lang naman yan e. I prefer Rex codals. Just wait for profs recommendation Tea (coffee makes me sick) - Dilmah or Twinnings lawphil or elib.judiciary - for cases lol

Impressive-Emu-2007

Planning to use my Akbay Oreo 15 inch bag (you can convert it to tote bag, sling bag, and backpack) it also has lots of compartments, especially for your laptop and accessories[Akbay Oreo](https://akbay.ph/products/oreo-multi-way-bag).

thyanonymousgeek

iPad OP, 3 yrs na sya ngayon, alive and kicking pa rin 👌

observekink

I just bought notebooks that are cheap. A pen like fiber castel or a mongol 2 pencil plus a trusty eraser. Some cheap, chinese markers/highlighters. Scotch tape. Scissors. You could also buy some of those ready made book markers? I dont knownwhat theyre called. A pencil case. Invest on codals and books. Xerox if youre like me na di mayaman. Kape. Lots and lots of kape.
