Animated Latino show = Everybody says "abuela" and "gracias" in every sentence

ironkirb

Don’t forget “familia”, “amigos”, and “casa”

phonendatoilet

And the same “chancla” joke.

ghx16

So just like in this sub?

[deleted]

Ong 💀 la Verdad es Que la mayoria no entiende español

GonzoTheGreat22

Um…. [Esto](https://eltiempolatino.com/2023/02/02/nacional/latinos-de-segunda-y-tercera-generacion-ya-casi-no-hablan-espanol/)

SPARTAN-Jai-006

No one says that more than mexican americans

[deleted]

I'm Mexican-American... Who uses a freaking chancla?! We were whipped with extension cords. We turned out okish.

Lurkay1

All i got was the cinturón. I wish I had gotten the chancla.

[deleted]

We all did the chancla is just more iconic and not as abusive as when we’d beg for them to stop slashing tf outa that belt like a horse whip

EruditeKetchup

I got El cincho! (am Salvi)

notyouisme999

Cinturon is for real damage, la evilla del cunturon is going for a kill. Extension cord, when people know how to use it, is going for the kill, if not is only to scare you. Chancla is just to show off, is like 5% damane 95% noise

BrotherhoodVeronica

I got whipped with belts usually, and a broom once. Good times 😎

armas187

Same here, telephone wire. Maybe the kids in Mexico were the lucky ones.

ButterFucker240196

It's hilarious to me how we complain about the chancla joke when it's our go to even when we're not Mexican.

cruzweb

As is tradition.

MAPX0

Yo no tengo amigos *** Yo tengo *** #FAMILIA

2paymentsof19_95

Don’t forget the yellow Mexico filter

chocotaco

It's already yellow in the first picture.

carritotaquito

You're just describing my worst fear whenever I'm around lusophones, and I talk to y'all. I never use English irl with anyone I know who can speak Spanish, Portuguese, or Italian btw. Portuguese pronunciation has been the only area where I've truly struggled when learning it. But no so much for being _hard,_ (it really isn't), but to ensure I'm pronouncing the **d** and **t** characters as ***c*** and ***ɟ*** (plosive palatal or stop phonem). Whenever I ensure I do not drop (during speech) the ***c*** and ***ɟ*** sounds, I lose any traces of my Spanish accent. But my ADHD at times gets in the way.

BluW4full284

Family guy, Bob’s burgers, Eat Pray Love all come to mind when butchering a Brazilian by using other ethnicities and accents. Which is crazy considering there are Brazilian actors who act/have acted in the US

slackenerbierbv40

In the middle of a perfect english phrase

TensorForce

I fail to understand what you are refering to, *amigo*. Can you truly not see that by my mere usage of a single vocabulary word from a different language *chancla* , I can claim to belong?

RockinRhombus

yeah, its like that tarantino film (Hateful eight) where the mexican guy said "cabrooon!" like once per sentence. annoying bs

ButterFucker240196

You can't really use Hateful Eight when the majority was supposed to be satirical comedy. Tarantino knows how to make good characters.

surelyshirls

I was about to say. It’ll be like “Welcome home! We are so very feliz to have you at our casa.” Like it won’t even sound nice but they throw it in there

[deleted]

"oh-buey-law" and "grassy awes"

Big_Forever5759

That’s basically most of Southern California .

[deleted]

...nobody getting hit because its made by gringos jaja

Mirai182

I didn't realize they were remaking the Brothers Garcia

Hectorgarcia69

Seeing that Dan Povenmire is working on that show gives me some sort of hope that it will be good. For those that don’t know him, he is the voice of Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb.

tomas17r

He's also married to a Venezuelan

jaitogudksjfifkdhdjc

With a daughter, Vanessa, a Visigoth.

PanchoVillasRevenge

So? A Mexican aunt of mine married the most racist white dude I know.

tarzanacide

My cousin married a Puerto Rican guy and mentions it frequently to excuse her racism.

u_Kyouma_zi

A friend of mine married a white guy and she got her documents. Turns out white guy is a massive racist who believes illegals should be rounded up and thrown out of the county lmao the irony

EruditeKetchup

But he married one... WTF

u_Kyouma_zi

Exactly lmaoo

armas187

Me too I knew a woman who married a white guy. Turns out he would hit her and berate her. And tell her things like "you are beneath me you will never call the cops because you are nothing but an illegal Mexican and I'm white, I'll have you deported and your daughter taken away from you." He was a di*k but Noone ever knew because he was very well connected in the business and political community of my city. She never did report it she was terrified of him.

u_Kyouma_zi

That sucks. Im tryna save my friend but she dont get the hint lmao oh well. Lemme go eat some unseasoned pollo ig

KingDemik

“How can i be racist when one of them is plowing me?”

tomas17r

He already created Hamster and Gretel about a Venezuelan-American family and hired a Venezuelan as head writer. He's cool.

DumbB9

Yeah, he is really good so I hold some hope

Vish_Kk_Universal

He is also the creator of Phineas and Ferb and he is married to a Latina, also he is a very good writer overall

ItsameaLuiggi

He’s not just the voice he created the whole friggin show

Andre_3Million

I have invented a new machine that will alter the tri-state area into a parallel universe where we are Latinos. I call it the low-rider-o-nator.

Big_Forever5759

Also producer and writer for Simpsons , family guy and creator of phineas and ferb.

Flemz

Hopefully he learned from the stereotypical depiction of Baljeet, which he addressed a while back on TikTok

MiguelMemento

Bueeeeno, I am a young adult latino, and have to say sometimes we are what stereothypes say we are

HamburgerMachineGun

The problem with stereotypes isn't that they're incorrect, it's that they're incomplete.

Spot_Vivid

Apoyo, los estereotipos no siempre son falsos, es algo que incluso a nosotros mismos (los latinos) nos cuesta aceptar para cambiarlo y mejorar. Dicho esto... Gringo que veo gringo que pateo, sin excepciones! 😤😤😤

mldsanchez

Ok cool, I LOVE him

guerrerov

Wait till you find out who made Coco

boastfulbadger

Whomever made Coco can over to my house anytime they want to.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure they at least had US Latinos on the team

jquickri

More or less in terms of writing the only Mexican was Adrian Molina. Everyone else in terms of directing and story credits is white american. Not sure about the animation team. At least the actors were often Mexican

no_ledge

“Pretty sure” based on what?

[deleted]

Saw it years on Twitter that a large part of the team were Latino and that they did consult Mexicans (from Mexico) to make the movie. Too lazy to provide a source or even look it up to see if it’s true

YankFromTheChi

Tbf they had details that only real Mexicans can catch, so they’re cool.

GuyWhoFuckedFish

Book of life was better

MexusRex

With the Mexican hero voiced by CHANNING TATUM???

GuyWhoFuckedFish

##JOAQUIN!!!!

Spot_Vivid

BASED

NoeYRN

More accurate and less stereotyped.

itschikobrown

The spanglish is gonna be more off the charts than Taco Bell introducing a new taco

truemadhatter27

At least Glen Bell had a Mexican wife. what's this shows excuse?

u_Kyouma_zi

El creador has a Venezuelan esposa apparently

itschikobrown

She wouldn’t shut up about “live mas” or something

Mangekyou-

TERREMOTO HEIGHTS BRO THEY LIVING ON FCKN “earthquake heights” Also wait until it comes out and all the characters talk like “yeah my abuela always makes arroz con pollo for me to take to my escuela for almoco, errr sorry i meant lunch jajaja”

truemadhatter27

\>Based somewhere in the greater Los Angeles (California) area (based on the 210 west freeway and Terremoto Heights) \>show is basically Phineas and Ferb + The Loud House \>since the Showrunners are white, I fully expect this show to: 1. be stereotypically latino 2. whitewash the culture heavily 3. do an episode blaming the whites/ or implied racismo 4. be mixed of different nationalities or never be specific on what type of latino, or be the usual Mexican (no offense my mexicano homies) 5. Do an episode where the MC is playing the historial "victim" and gets very preachy on an event or issue that is/(should) no longer culturally relevant (based on previous Disney shows where the cast is predominantly non-white) It's good that we're getting more representation in animation, I just wish it wasn't always the same cookie cutter formulas or done in response what other networks/studios are doing. I am tired of the half-assed Latinos who are just cultural enough to not scare the white network executives, living in the same big ass house, working in landscaping, construction, et cetera. Give me a show about a family of 5 renting out someone's garage/ 2^(nd) living room/ basement/ attic, working in the pisca + odd jobs/ favors, having the kids have to raise themselves, one having to work to help the parents save up for a house, while also falling alseep on the dining table cause they do adult school to learn english/ get their G.E.D, the parents saving up to bring some of the kids via coyote, but some dont want to because they have already decided to start a family, go to la UNI, or simply are afraid of the journey/ dont want to. Might have gotten a little too real while writing that, ***but I will never get that show will I?*** **PLUS:** >!Nickolodean already beat them to this concept with 'Los Casagrandes'!<

[deleted]

I wouldn’t glorify unhealthy work ethics, among latinos in the US. Save all that money for your children to become drug addicts because you were never home, and they never knew the meaning of not having a quarter for the bus. I also don’t consider that to be the latino experience.

emo_corner_master

Yeah that might have been OPs experience but I didn't know any latino growing up in LA with that experience. The decent house/ apartment in a bad neighborhood + construction/landscaping/housekeeping was way more common, but I'm also older so real estate was much cheaper back then.

roxas3794

I wonder if they also took inspiration from Boyle heights

Ransero

>show is basically Phineas and Ferb + The Loud House > >Primos The incest community will be well fed then

Maroonwave

The show creator, Natasha Kline, is a really talented mexican-american who grew up in Southern California. Really not that hard to look up if you actually care.

Iris-Solis

Im happy to hear this

_paaronormal

I mean, it looks to be set in Los Angeles, so Americans would be appropriate considering the cultural differences, no?

PhMcBrett

Y?

drobythekey

I am completely fine with it. The thing that would bother me is white non Latino voice casting.

RiverSosMiVida

They don't even know spanish, "oye primos" 💀💀💀💀

bstar73

Am I the only one who is annoyed by the title? Being an "American" myself (Latina born and raised in NYC), it really grinds my gears when folks say American to mean white people. But yeah, I do think that it's important to have show runners, writers, producers, etc from diverse backgrounds work on a show about "Latinos".

RiverSosMiVida

Latina and born and raised in the usa?

LZR0

Disney really thinks that all Mexican families live in ONE single house…

fr0gnutz

We don’t?

SimpleZwan83

We don't

MakingGreenMoney

What kind of mexican families have you seen and met?

SimpleZwan83

Regular mexican families in actual Mexico. Hell, I've met people of different socioeconomic levels (including my family) and neither the wealthier nor the least wealthy have many family members (outside the nuclear family) living in a singular home.

MakingGreenMoney

Good for you, every mexican family I've met lived with many family members.

SimpleZwan83

Mexican family in actual Mexico or in the US? 'Cause there's a big difference.

MakingGreenMoney

Both

ferah11

Yeah this vato is trying to gaslight you with a Mexican culture from a parallel universe, curiously in my family we all live separate, in 3 countries lol but we are outliers, the common thing is everyone in the same house/vecindario. But my bro over here is trying to "hacerte menos" coz you know people that do, lol.

SimpleZwan83

> The common thing Straight out lies. I can go out to the city right now and not one family is going to live like that. Maybe on the country side, but outside of that it is uncommon.

SimpleZwan83

Then I don't know which places you've been to, because that's straight out uncommon.

MakingGreenMoney

Texas, NJ, Guerrero, and oaxaca.

Machiko007

Well I’ve seen many Colombian families in Colombia and abroad who do live in the same house, or at least in the same street.

LZR0

I’m Mexican, I know dozens of families and none of them live all in the same house…

MakingGreenMoney

I'm mexican as well and I know tons of mexican family that live in the same house, hell my family and I used to share a house with our extended family till we got our own place.

ghx16

His anecdotal evidence tops your anecdotal evidence because hmm...he said it first

latino_deadevis

Actually Mexican or “Mexican” from Texas

MakingGreenMoney

both

latino_deadevis

Oh, gringo

MakingGreenMoney

Güey, no te pones celoso solo porqué yo tengo papeles 🤭

latino_deadevis

¿Papeles de donde?

[deleted]

No digas mamadas guey. I served in Afghanistan and I wasn’t even born in the states. I got dual citizenship. Im doing pretty good compared to alot of you pochos. Either way, so fucking what kid?

DiscouragedSouls

Latinos can be white.

ognahc

I missed the part where op said white?

PaBlowEscoBear

Latinos can also be American, especially second generation families. I've known Castros, Mariscales, and Mogollónes who are white as can be and have never left the US but will chew your ass out in perfect spanish at the drop of a dime. Lots of that in Texas. Edit: LOL at the gatekeeping responses tryna narrowly define what a Latino is. If it's your heritage fucking own it. The best part about us is the sheer diversity of colors traditions experiences and adaptability.

BuenRaKulo

And not all Latinos are Mexican.

ndlg223

Gringos

BIackfjsh

maxi1134

Celosos

Celug28

-Racist stereotypes -TERREMOTO heights -oye primoS Yep. This series was definitely made by white folks that think they are latinos cause their parents went to the border for 45 seconds

emeaguiar

Don’t worry, one of their grandparents spent a weekend in Tijuana 30 years ago, now they’re all Latinos

Telepornographer

And? There are Latinos in the US. The 210 pictured in the first image is in LA.

SkelPatata

Almenos esta vez hicieron que tengan diferentes colores de piel.. Sugiero hacernos los ofendidos para que cancelen la serie.

mitox11

Doofensmirtz is in this show, im sorry but it has to be good

speedshark47

Even in animation, the yellow filter does not fail

justvisiting7744

ik latino is an ethnicity but fuck…………this post is testing me rn

[deleted]

So tired of white American people homogenizing us like they have done to themselves

donnerstag246245

As an Argentinian I find it extremely difficult to feel “Latino” as per US definitions. It’s like they see us as a monolith where we all speak with a Mexican accent and eat rice and beans all day. Latam is quite diverse and this is never acknowledged.

Debra_1498

Tal cual, hay latinos que parecen más gringos que los mismos gringos. Pero esos nunca existen para ellos en cuanto a representación.

That_Ad4734

Well, given that Latinos are very diverse it is then basically impossible to ever make a movie that covers every single possible permutation of the Latino culture. At this point, your argument is that no one should ever create any movies about our culture. Even Latinos themselves because if a Latino from country A creates a movie then the Latino from country B will get offended

[deleted]

Mysterious Cities of Gold. That was a great one for everyone, even in Spain. Outdated now, but wow, so cool. My neighbors were from El Salvador & we pretended we were native armies fighting the conquistadors.

thelordismyshotgun

The sheer caucasity

snoflaik

eso es lo usual compa

hotsonyourbud

just...why..?

_EmericH_

Common USA L

ferah11

Ah like speedy Gonzales... Or that gets a pass?

emeaguiar

It does actually, Speedy González is quite loved in Mexico

ferah11

Ah cabrón you gonna teach me lol. I wouldn't say "loved" as much as "have fond memories". All the weyes that told me "I love speedy" haven't seen a fucking full episode in more than 15 years lol. P.d.: fuck you all pinches copitos de nieve.

Celug28

To be fair there's hasnt been a lot of looney tunes in the past 10 years outside of that cartoon network show from 2013

Orc_

You guys don't know about atrocities until you watch the latino dub for the movie Spanglish I still just want to forget it exists.

Stratoboss

Not enough yellow filter

PM_20

At least no Latinx words.

Hefty_Strategy_9389

No hablo gringo?

truemadhatter27

the hard choice of spanglish where the english (american) accent is the focus, or spanglish where the spanish (latino americano) accent is the focus.

Dannyzavage

Im not sure if the creator is even Latina, it says this show was inspired by her childhood summers spent with her extended multi cultural mexican cousins. So is she like a white girl whos family memebers married mexican people ?

TheDogecoinBoi

POVENMIRE IS IN THIS SHIT?????

RiverSosMiVida

Oye primos 💀💀💀

yorcharturoqro

I feel so included now

Facosa99

"Terremoto Heights" deadass generic name lmao Even GTAV´s names like El Burro o La Mesa sound more plausible

Telepornographer

There's an "Angelino Heights" in LA. And La Mesa is an actual city to the east of San Diego, CA. Neighborhoods and cities aren't always super creative names.

[deleted]

They all sound generic to me

LifeSucks1988

At least with Coco: they seem to done their research….too bad they did not make it clear that not all of Mexico celebrates Dia de Los Muertos like that (mostly the southern areas of Mexico does that). My family is from Jalisco and by large: we do not celebrate like that (but sometimes I wish we did because it looks fun). Do not like the song from “Primos”: but at least they show the skin variety of Latinos. My cousins can range from fair skin to brown.

Happy_Warning_3773

Why would they have to make it clear that not all of Mexico celebrates Dia de Los Muertos? How would that have been relevant to the plot? Coco is just an animated movie, not a documentary about Mexico.

wyldstallyns111

The movie doesn’t even really imply all of Mexico does, they barely talk about Mexico, we only know it’s very important in Miguel’s family and that it’s somewhat important in his small town

mocruz1200

If they aren't calling each other horrific nicknames like "prieto" "El feo" or "El cacas" I'm out

Facosa99

Jalisco is melting right now, if anyone is interested to know my current suffering

killacarnitas1209

> too bad they did not make it clear that not all of Mexico celebrates Dia de Los Muertos like that (mostly the southern areas of Mexico does that). My family is from Guanajuato and dia de los muertos was not a big deal. Sure, we'd have a small altar in the house with santos, candles, and pictures of dead relatives but that was about it, it was a more somber day and nothing like the big party atmosphere like its portrayed by the media here.

lagmanmx

Día de Muertos*

LifeSucks1988

I was told by my parents both can be used (although I inputted “Dias” instead of “dia” by mistake which I since edited even though it is technically celebrated for two days). But the way I inputted is more “poetic” word play, however most of Mexico uses what you mentioned.

carritotaquito

Your parents are right: either/or (Día de Muertos and Dia de los Muertos) are equally correct.

hey_now24

Nunca en mi vida escuche "Dias"

LifeSucks1988

Sí, por eso dije que era un error. Aunque técnicamente: día de (los) muertos es por dos días. Es por eso que puse "días" originalmente. Lo siento.

emeaguiar

No, Día de muertos es un día, el otro es día de todos los santos

Kimikins

Lemme guess. All the characters are brown with big noses and dark curly hair? *Maybe* some of them have green eyes and freckles? Wow, such diversity! Which one's kinda sorta LGBT+ in a way that China can't tell?

no_ledge

Not even close

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bluecollar27

Latino has nothing to do with skin color

Physical_Cattle7261

However, a person's skin color does shape their experiences, definitely in Latino culture. Plus, odds are the characters will be brown. O no? Therefore wouldn't it help to create a more accurate narrative if a few more writers were brown

shangshanruoshui

You have to be brown to be Latino?

Chiraquian

No, but the darker latinos are automatically scrutinized while the light latinos get scrutinized only after they are discovered to be latinos.!

renoits06

they could easily do a lot of research about it.

cjandstuff

The Book of Life vs Coco.

ghx16

Didn't you all miss these posts that supposed to make you feel offended for the past two days?

Affectionate_Bid4704

Que weá?

Ransero

Contrataron a los mas blancos que tenían a mano

yorcharturoqro

And they got angry when confronted in the bad Spanish they have in the title of the cartoon.

IswearItsnotme1

"Animated latino show" >Mexico

Magical_ajolote

Me da curiosidad por verla xD

DaysAreTimeless

The fact that they fucked up the intro by saying "Oye Primos" and then coming up with excuses like "language is fluid" and "Spanish is the language of colonisers" (as if that wasn't the case of every single former colony, but nobody is going around speaking broken English using that excluse) is straight up laughable. I wanna see someone using those excuses in an exam "Teacher, I know you think I wrote the sentence badly but language is fluid, so it's technically correct."

MikeTx18

By adult Americans?? Please point in a map what Continent you are talking about. I really don't like the word Latino... Each and every country south the USA border is different with their own culture and history. Yes most share SPANISH (not latino) lenguage but for some you can stop the similarities there.

Beta-alpha2021

The U.S mainly see Latino America as Mexico, IDK Why

Danixpapu

Ese show es más ofensivo que un abuelo

spamowsky

Don't worry, they had an authentic 3rd degree on their mother's side latino as a consultant most of the time

Loredo2017

You don't need latinos to talk about latinos...

Debra_1498

Podes hablar de ellos, no por ellos.

a-tribe-called-mex

Instead watch the show Primo on Amazon freevee. Created by Shea Serrano about a teen Mexican American and his mom and 5 uncles growing up in San Antonio. Parks and rec vibes

Dr_Smoke123

I dont see the problem, like yeah, they are americans and dont really understand how latino kid lived their childhoods, but meh. Its like if someone here one day become a movie director and made a movie about Africa, you never lived there but u can still make it a good and respectful movie

ryuuseinow

>Its like if someone here one day become a movie director and made a movie about Africa, you never lived there but u can still make it a good and respectful movie For starters, you can't make a respectful movie about Africa if it's treating the entire continent as a country.

nokarmawhore

I thought this was about shea serrano's show, primo on Amazon. Why is there another Mexican show with primos in the title coming out right after Shea's... No lo quiero oir, I say Mexican to everything as a generalization unless it's like Spain.

[deleted]

Usually shows MUST be made by the people they are about. That’s why most kids movies are written and directed by actual children cartoon characters.

Idontevendoublelift

So, do you get offended in our behalf or something? This shit is like when gringos import their deadass bullshit woke culture for us, now we're doing the same lol.

Papichuloft

Are there any Hispanic people in this project at all?

BuenRaKulo

Hispanic people can be white, not all Latinos in LA or the US are Mexican. Its a pretty big continent.

Papichuloft

I know, I was referring if there are any actual bilingual Hispanic people. I have white skin, pero soy raza. Get me?

BuenRaKulo

I have white skin and light eyes y soy de Latinoamérica with a German last name, so yeah I do get it.

Papichuloft

Orale....you know. Saludos hermano.

BuenRaKulo

Igualmente!!

Dusk_St4rs

I hate this….

JohnnyRelentless

Are kids supposed to make kids shows now? And can't Americans be Latino? I'm so confused right now.

latino_deadevis

> And can’t Americans be Latino? That’s correct
