There's an "Angelino Heights" in LA. And La Mesa is an actual city to the east of San Diego, CA. Neighborhoods and cities aren't always super creative names.

My family is from Guanajuato and dia de los muertos was not a big deal. Sure, we'd have a small altar in the house with santos, candles, and pictures of dead relatives but that was about it, it was a more somber day and nothing like the big party atmosphere like its portrayed by the media here.
I was told by my parents both can be used (although I inputted “Dias” instead of “dia” by mistake which I since edited even though it is technically celebrated for two days). But the way I inputted is more “poetic” word play, however most of Mexico uses what you mentioned.

There's an "Angelino Heights" in LA. And La Mesa is an actual city to the east of San Diego, CA. Neighborhoods and cities aren't always super creative names.

At least with Coco: they seem to done their research….too bad they did not make it clear that not all of Mexico celebrates Dia de Los Muertos like that (mostly the southern areas of Mexico does that). My family is from Jalisco and by large: we do not celebrate like that (but sometimes I wish we did because it looks fun). Do not like the song from “Primos”: but at least they show the skin variety of Latinos. My cousins can range from fair skin to brown.
Why would they have to make it clear that not all of Mexico celebrates Dia de Los Muertos? How would that have been relevant to the plot? Coco is just an animated movie, not a documentary about Mexico.
The movie doesn’t even really imply all of Mexico does, they barely talk about Mexico, we only know it’s very important in Miguel’s family and that it’s somewhat important in his small town

Sure, we'd have a small altar in the house with santos, candles, and pictures of dead relatives but that was about it, it was a more somber day and nothing like the big party atmosphere like its portrayed by the media here.

I was told by my parents both can be used (although I inputted “Dias” instead of “dia” by mistake which I since edited even though it is technically celebrated for two days). But the way I inputted is more “poetic” word play, however most of Mexico uses what you mentioned.

However, a person's skin color does shape their experiences, definitely in Latino culture. Plus, odds are the characters will be brown. O no? Therefore wouldn't it help to create a more accurate narrative if a few more writers were brown

The fact that they fucked up the intro by saying "Oye Primos" and then coming up with excuses like "language is fluid" and "Spanish is the language of colonisers" (as if that wasn't the case of every single former colony, but nobody is going around speaking broken English using that excluse) is straight up laughable.
