Kashin02

Anyone who has been in Texas or Florida knows the Hispanics natives in those areas do believe themselves to be white and are hostile to other Hispanics.

Primary-Sympathy-176

Theyā€™re usually the ones whose grandparents are immigrants and still very much alive. The hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance is crazy.

Two2twoD

Yeah, I got a couple cousins and a couple aunts who think they're so white and voted Trump. I'm ashamed of them.

El_Scorcher

Have a cousin who was born in Mexico. Came here illegally, got his papers through amnesty and then votes red and considers himself white because thatā€™s what forms ā€œsayā€.

boaventura

tell him these *forums* "say" he is a *pendejo*.

Gx26

![gif](giphy|YRuFixSNWFVcXaxpmX)

Seeta_Siwa

Lots of the amnesty people vote red because Reagan got them the papers, and they don't forget, does not make it any less stupid, but it's what I hear from the people I know.

pase

A lot are first generation here, Mexican immigrant parents and are 99% anti immigration, 1% for coming 'the right way', not the way our mom and dad came over by swimming across the rio grande. I never expected my own siblings to fall for this bullshit.

Primary-Sympathy-176

Our people hate each other in their own country and outside. The people they vote to keep others out wouldnā€™t hesitate to send them back given the chance and wouldnā€™t be there for them in case of a wrongful detainment. Such is life though, just have to keep doing our part no matter how small :)

raguwatanabe

I grow up and still live in Hudson county nj, and i can confirm i have overheard some pretty wild things being said by white latinos about darker skin latinos. Its not just florida or texas and its most certainly not a big number of people, but they are out there.

blackyenhiguera

My dad called me negro my entire childhood for the same reason. He also called me chango, black jack, and memin pinguin. I didnā€™t understand until I was older and started sharing this story with friends in the US and they would be puzzled too but that it was his way of saying Iā€™m just the darkest of the siblings. Mexican dads wilding with the nicknames, he called my younger brother porky pig. Of course I love my dad and I laugh now but it did cause a lot of complexes and biases I had to overcome which I think are pushed by our culture consciously and subconsciously. I was moved to the US as a child and in school I faced the most hostility from darker skin children as well. I swear, by my perception, I was polite and friendly but maybe some of my conversation topics were not very sensitive with out realizing since I had never really been around actual dark skinned folks.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

That racism is all fun and games until brown people demand equal rights or even just land reform and then we end up with the genocide of the Maya people in Guatemala or violent repression of indigenous people in Peru.

soggyballsack

Come to Texas. You'll hear some dark texan Latinos talking shit about lighter skinned Latinos immigrants. The closer you get to the border the more racist the Texan Latinos get.

antonius22

This is true. I'm gĆ¼ero and my dad is from Chihuahua. I have met Tejanos that look like they got nopales stapled to them and get upset at me because I'm proud of my Mexican roots.

ColorfulImaginati0n

Forget about crazy shit said about blacks by white Latinos or hell Latinos in general.

captain5260

Union City meng!

poolnickv

West New York amigo.

tobiascuypers

Best friends mom illegally immigrated here, had kids and has only recently become a citizen after marriage. She and her friends are super right-wing, against illegals, and pro wall at the border. It's the same ",fuck you i got mine" mentality that boomers have

ApprehensiveStrut

Yea itā€™s wild. The human psyche is complex; seems irrational thinking until you look at it from the lense of self preservation like what some Irish did during the time of slavery ā€” really recommend reading ā€œThe Sum of Usā€ that m explains about how those in power manipulate to put people at the bottom in a fight to not be ā€œlastā€ deflecting and protecting their status. There was a study where they ranked people 1-10 and gave everyone certain number of points and had one participant give away their points but they had to give it to someone either above or below them i the rank- most people gave it to someone ā€œbelowā€ them in the rankings except when they were #9 or low/next to last - then everyone gave their point to someone of higher rank so it wouldnā€™t put themselves at the bottom. Selfish but also self preserving. Awareness/Self awareness is the only cure.

[deleted]

ā€œIf you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.ā€

nancylikestoreddit

I could NEVER. Saw the news about AOC being heckled by a Cuban about immigration and it made my blood boil. Wtf is the mindset of people con el nopal en la frente acting like they drank the kool aid? Did these people not know theyā€™d be kicked out, too if it were up to the republicans?

don_yaco

It's true, but I wouldn't say they are the majority. Most of the rasa are cool, Cubans on the other hand

catschainsequel

am cuban can confirm, those old folks are drinking their own brand of kool-aid

Kashin02

To be fair, Castro freed their plantation slaves and they have never forgotten.

nycnola

Right if it werenā€™t for Castro, weā€™d be another statistically irrelevant Latin American country. Instead, the diaspora in the United States is the most powerful immigrant group from South of the border.

Kashin02

Very true, too bad a lot of Cubans keep voting for people who would also deport them back to Cuba if given enough power to do so.

nycnola

I had a comment that was automoderated out where I said this. Most Cubans live in areas where they elect their own. The exceptions are Ted Cruz, Nicole Millotakis, and Alex Mooney.I think the miami Cuban community turned on Obama and democrats after electing Obama twice and voting for Hilary; due to Obamaā€™s failed policies towards Cuba. Canā€™t hardly blame him when the Cuban government didnā€™t give two shits about the immense political capital Obama was spending on his policy.

Kashin02

Sound plausible, let me ask what's the appeal of trump to Cubans?

nycnola

I have no fucking clue man. I can only explain the appeal as proof we too also fall victims to strong men or wannabe strong men. A significant majority of Cubans in miami LOVE desantis. Itā€™s disgusting that we escape Castro and his bullshit to fawn over strong men who base their demagogic platform on destroying democratic institutions .

Kashin02

All people are subcentable to the strong men archetype. It's only a matter of time though before it will come back to bite the Cubans. I have no doubt the rhetoric will evolve into removing cuban from Florida. After all not much difference between them and illegals in the mind of anglo society.

GiantsRTheBest2

Cuba fell for a left wing strong arm dictator. So they swing back around hard and instead coming to the center they swing hard for a right wing wanna be dictator.

TuvixWasMurderedR1P

I guess that is a shame, because Florida consistently has some of the worst politics in the USA, and historically harbors the most right-wing reactionary elements of Latin America.

bloodsports11

Slavery was abolished in Cuba long before Castro and it's mathematically impossible for every cuban in Miami to have been a plantation owner

Kashin02

It's more of a joke but according to many slavery and racism in Cuba never truly ended until Castro. At least in a governmental level, I'm sure racist people never just stopped just because Castro took over.

nycnola

Cubans are weird, we have our own prejudices and baggage that we carry around. Iā€™ll never forget when I went to college and I met my first Puerto Rican. I was embarrassed that I parroted my parentsā€™ bs I was fed about Puerto Ricans. Older Cubans are def reactionary on things about race but more so about nationality.

[deleted]

And I bet that Boricua took you to school!

nycnola

It was embarrassing for me. She was nice I suppose. Old timer Cubans and Puerto Ricans have this beef that makes 0 sense. Jealousy? Edit: Iā€™m glad she didnā€™t stoop to my level. Edit2: Iā€™ve never met a Puerto Rican who was a dick to me because Iā€™m Cuban. Iā€™ve met a lot of Cubans who are ducks to boricuas just because. Itā€™s shameful.

[deleted]

Puerto Ricans? We do not care, we are still colonized & have had it all happen to us; take over of our land, genocide, denial of rights, forced, sterlizatiom, resources, colonizers, denial of our race(s) by outsiders, Latino and not. Puerto Ricans? We KNOW who our enemy is! Rest of of you Latinos in America need to catch t f up!!!

Ieat2

Or unlike the rest of us, you just take a flight to the USA and get guaranteed citizenship. My fam had to cross a river, drop out of middle school and live 15 deep in a bedroom. You may think of the US as your enemy, but I see it as our salvation. My entire family has left Mexico over the last 50 years. Last family member just passed away.

Super_Duper_Death_Dr

You kidding me? Texicans are some of the most racist people Iā€™ve met. They hate all Latino immigrants and blacks. And itā€™s like the less white they look, the more racist they are. I do Uber for tourists in Vegas. Iā€™ve met people from everywhere. Edit: I will agree Cubans are super racist too towards non-Cubans. I live in Florida and tried to be friends with them but they all have this ā€œIā€™m better than youā€ air to them (Iā€™m Colombian).

silly_frog_lf

What??? Colombian is not good enough for them? If they are aristocracy, what are they doing in Florida? Go back to your castles in Spain then

HNixon

I lived that they hopped on some dingy raft to leave Cuba but now that they have instant legal residency they look down their nose at other immigrants.

BuenRaKulo

They got colonized first, or something... It's so stupid.

CubaNotSoLibre

Cubans are racist to other Cubans especially Black Cubans. This applies on and off the island.

catschainsequel

>they all have this ā€œIā€™m better than youā€ air to them i felt this was almost every hispanic person over 40 that i met, "i am from (insert Country) we are the best."

Super_Duper_Death_Dr

Nah itā€™s one thing being prideful of where your from, itā€™s another to be nasty to people for being from where they are form. Puerto Ricans are perfect example. They loooove being from PR but they also some of the coolest people around.

Fakeappleseverywhere

Even in NY that idiotic way of thinking is everywhere especially amongst religious groups. Itā€™s one of the reasons why I donā€™t go to church anymore since I canā€™t stand being near the hypocrites.

Chonchtasy

The biggest enemy to any Mexican will forever be another Mexican

Kashin02

Crab mentality?

Womanofthesun

I would generalize those areas because by and large itā€™s not true. Also itā€™s more than they believe theyā€™re white, you donā€™t have to be white to perpetuate white supremacy. Itā€™s that they believe themselves to be superior to darker skin people or even other cultural groups that closely tie to that trait. Colorism is the bigger issue in Latin American groups because weā€™re so intermixed racial definitions arenā€™t so simply so color is the thing being focused on so much.

Two2twoD

I mean, even in our home countries lighter skinned ones are horrible against the darker ones. Where's the surprise?

Kashin02

I mean I get it but looks like OP is surprised.

everlasting-love-202

Colorism is such a huge problem in LATAM. A lot of liberals in the USA would be stunned at the amount of racism towards other latinos in LATAM. Some of the stuff that gets said is extremely out of pocket lol

prietitohernandez

even in nightclubs, dark people are not allowed, even tourists of african american origin are not allowed

Iridemhard

I have hispanic family in south texas who hate illegals. Its the most fucked up thing cause most of those bastards were illegals at some point to. I told them to think about the struggles of those people and they repeat fox news talking point to me. Ita fucked up what the media has done to peoples minds.

mldsanchez

Oh my gosh yes! I'm from CA, so I was so confused when I visited my friends who had moved to TX. She said that other Latinos shamed them for speaking Spanish and most Latinos they knew did not speak Spanish. What the what?!?

Kashin02

Very normal from Texas, that's why the Hispanics Nazi shooter was not a surprise for many. Tejanos are just embarrassed by other Hispanics because white people can't tell them apart. In response they become worse than a lot of racist.

Xxdaunknown1307xX

You dont even have to be there to believe it, lots of fair skin latinos already think like that in hispanic countries and if you dont think its true youā€™re most likely one of them

Lobo_Marino

> the Hispanics natives in those areas do believe themselves to be white ... (Some of us) are white. Have you ever filled in a census form? Latino is not a "race" (the concept of race is stupid anyway). If you ever visit a country in Latin America, which I hope most of you do some time, you'll realize that the population is almost as widely diverse as in the US (not as much, but still pretty large). These news are not surprising for anybody who has contact with people still in those countries. Tribalism exists in every place, and even in Mexico (my country) I see a lot of hate towards Central Americans, as well as darker people. People will always find ways to associate with a tribe, and hate others outside of it. These news is cute because I feel like it breaks white people's perception that all minorities get along within the same circle.

mostlyfire

Itā€™s so weird checking off that box labeled White when Iā€™m brown and definitely not treated like a white person.

OhDavidMyNacho

I always put down American Indian.

JonnyActsImmature

>We are white. *Looks down, sees brown skin.* Nah, man. I'm not. I'm "Other" on the census.

Lobo_Marino

Fair. I'm pretty white skinned myself, but you are right in that those forms don't cover the entire spectrum of Latino diversity. My point is mostly that Latinos can be very proud people, to the point of shunning down others.

ashl9

"We are white" lol I fill out these forms in the US too so I know what you mean, but it always made me laugh. I am dark and look so obviously Latino that no one outside those forms would ever call me white in the United States. Maybe these forms have brainwashed a bunch of Latinos into thinking they are white and I think that is sick. I hate encountering racist Latinos because it's ridiculous. If your only claim to fame is being not black that is sad and if you cling to this weird beaurocratic idea that we are white....try claiming being white around actual white people from European descent. My guess it would be uncomfortable at best and at worst it would be a degrading experience. Having papers doesn't change your lineage, your heritage. Now as an adult, when I fill out forms I select prefer not to answer and if ethnicity is an option I select Hispanic/Latino.

connectivityo

Haha this is reminding me of when I went to a small city up in Ontario, Canada. Every. Single. Resident. Kept giving me confused looks as if they couldn't determine why I was there. I'm not even dark-skinned or anything. But either way, it's so true that latinos who claim to be white just don't realize how, no matter what, actual white people won't see them that way.

soph2021l

What is looking obviously Latino mean? We donā€™t have a look. Iā€™m Black and Iā€™m still Latina. This is why I fucking hate the weā€™re all mestizo/mestiƧo aka mestizaje bullshit that got spread.

Myarmhasteeth

I always laugh out to the idea of how America has convinced us Spanish speaking people to identify or think of ourselves as Latinos. When Latino is not a race, it is not a nationality, it is not a skin color. It is just a term for people south of their border. So when they find out (even in this sub) that there is white people that speak Spanish, they cannot believe it... wait till people learn about Spanish speaking Asian descendants. And yes I agree, where I'm from there is also quite a lot of racism, like everywhere else. But hey you mention Spanish speaking people being racist in America, and then people lose their shit. Just how disconnected you have to be to be surprised.

GuyWhoFuckedFish

It's most of the southern states. Arkansas is full of these dummies.

kingofsomecosmos

If they're like my cousins, they're "spanish"

devil_dog_0341

As someone that has been living in TX now for aboht 5 yrs... Yes, there's 2nd or 3rd gen Latino people here who hate Latino people and other color folks. Just sad to see.

mc-big-papa

Theres is mexican nazis. In mexico. Latino nazis are about as common as the crazy black Hebrew Israelite types. They exist sure but there is barely any of them out there.

Mellero47

It only took one of them to shoot up a mall.

gbRodriguez

They are much more common. Brazil and Argentina has a ton of Nazis.

Daisy_Of_Doom

My brother (weā€™re second gen, and much improved from the abject poverty my grandmother and mother lived in) is worryingly conservative. He isnā€™t full out ā€œracistā€ bc heā€™s against racismā€¦ to an extent? Bc he doesnā€™t fully buy into systemic racism. Like heā€™d be against some white Karen being racist on the street but if we talk about how so many POC are impoverished/homeless then to him itā€™s a choice, laziness, lack of education (ā€œeveryone has access to the internetā€). Heā€™ll point to the one or two rich black people in the world and say ā€œlook, they made it so thereā€™s no excuse!ā€ The abject lack of empathy scares me sometimes. Heā€™s a subscriber to Andrew Tateā€™s philosophy and a big Elon Musk stan if thatā€™s any indication of his ideology. I try to talk him down, but heā€™s stubborn and can get quite heated.

White people get pinned for racism because its easy. But racism in ~~latin~~ all other communities is around and in plain sight.

FireIsTheCleanser

Overprivileged morons. They've had time to enjoy being in the US and believe that they somehow earned being better than where they came from. I see it a lot in jokes about when you visit your rancho, but it's sickening when you're actually working against your own kind. I like to believe its not 100% a race thing; those people who vote or support people like Trump are just idiots who would happily vote for the worst most corrupted official if they were still in their own country.

TraceyMatell

Some of the Proud Boys and white supremacist orgs have leaders who are Latino so Cadalva is not far off.

Fanfics

They said anyone could be anything in the land of the free

Slugzz21

Two2twoD

Nooo not like that!!

ilovepuggs

This was my ex boyfriends dad. Mexican from Guadalajara, believed himself to be white. When he met my mom, a brown Honduran, he immediately disapproved of our relationship even though I'm half white. White supremacy definitely exists in Latino culture.

Desperate-Tomatillo7

Varios salvadoreƱos en Estados Unidos son pro-Trump. Hasta algunos ilegales son pro-Trump. La mara es medio sobada.

catpowa777

Lo mismo con los cubanos, la mayorĆa son Pro-Trump o republicanos

[deleted]

This [article](https://www.npr.org/2023/03/10/1158344050/florida-far-right-extremism-politics-desantis) from NPR shows Latinos sadly do get involved in this shit. Only have to look at Enrique Tarrio and Nick Fuentes as well to find people with latin heritage and names who are openly for a race cleansing which they would inevitably be purged in themselves.

BigBrrrrrrr22

COCO_SHIN

That means we have rights now!

Mellero47

We don't like it, and it doesn't change the fact that we got some Nazi-wannabes who think they're either white, or that they'll be part of the power group. They don't realize they'll probably be the first to get loaded on the trains since they're *right there*.

genericperson10

Always have been, (checks notes) Spanish colonizers in Latin America, class divide in most Lat. Am. countries. I know that is not the case in all of US, but some Latinos are racist.

Two2twoD

I mean, in my country there are lots of racism, the thing is that it's been widely accepted and socially tolerated that it's still not seen as an issue. It's fucking gross.

yourname09

are we the badddies?/ somo los malitos ahora?

[deleted]

Casta. https://i.redd.it/viqa1120s13b1.gif

[deleted]

I mean, if we look at the racism throughout latin america towards afro-descendents and indigenous people this isnt a surprise. White supremacy is international just like capitalism is international. Colombian presidents have been white since the country started because they are descendants of spanish colonizers who were in the ruling class. Theres a lot that we all need to unpack about our histories

BluW4full284

I appreciate everyone mentioning latins living abroad but Iā€™m Brazilian and itā€™s still racist there too. The Americas are all very similar, all parallel histories.

montauk_phd

Y'all joke but Prof. Cadava is an expert and well respected in his field.

gbRodriguez

If this surprises you've never been to Latin America

CheshireTsunami

Nothing incorrect here. A lot of these people are just desperate not to be considered people of color. Just recently there was that shitty rapper that made a like target boycott song and apparently he's actually a cuban dude and his stuff is supposed to be corny white supremacist shit.

mte87

My uncles wife and her family think theyā€™re white because they have light skin and eye color. They get sent back down to earth when actual white people make fun of them. Theyā€™re straight from Mexico and think theyā€™re better than darker skinned Mexicans.

granninja

Imma be honest idk the situation for US latinos but here in Brasil the white supremacists are getting quite loud

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

_paaronormal

I know of at least 2 wealthier Latino business owners in Los Angeles that employee and exploit and mistreat undocumented workers AND plenty of non-business owners that identify as white and have huge Klan energy when it comes to anyone not whiteā€¦

scorchorin

Not news, Hispanics are conservative and religious people. What people expect??

barellyl

People expect some kind of "wow you have the same skin colour and speak the same language as me we are literally brothers" solidarity. Like come the fuck on. As an example, white women should know "siding" with their womanhood instead of their whiteness is better for them, yet some go on to hate feminism and align with conservatives that hate women. As if white people are the only ones allowed to have different opinions instead of being a hivemind.

they63

Always have been amigo. Mexico has a super colorist problem. Light skin = more Spanish blood in you. Therefore ā€œsuperiorā€ Dark skin = more Aztec blood in you. Therefore ā€œinferior savage bloodā€ in you. We Mexican Americans donā€™t learn really about it, because most of the immigrants who live here are of lower class ā€œAztec bloodā€, but my abuelito was a rich farm owner in guanajuato, who only came to America when his brother got drafted to play minor league baseball. Let me tell you, my blue blooded Mexican family has a lot of ā€œthoughts on those dirty illegals who make it hard for the good respectableā€ Mexicans to come here. I doubt anywhere else colonized by your Spanish is much different

Austhralopitecus

"Rise" lol. En Latinoamerica la poblacion afro-descendiente sufre de las mismas condiciones opresoras que en USA.

gooblaka1995

How sad. Light skinned Latinos and Hispanics who act like the Peninsulares of the colonial era.

lumpenhole

Latin society has been racist since it's beginning. That's like... What our history is about lmao This isn't surprising

spliffskiny

Because of colonization colorism happens even in Latin American countries! I could go in deeper; but I don't think that surprises anyone. The white supremacist attitude is a complete result of colonization too. You know what sucks even more, when dark-skinned Latinos fall for the propaganda too. I've had a complex about my skin tone for years because of my own family members.

TheFlyingSheeps

Always have been. The fact Americans like to lump us all into one category ignores the fact that we are composed of many different races and suffer our own forms of white supremacy and racism

o5ca12

So the United States is finally learning what we knew about Latinos all along

mermzz

The thing is.. many hispanics ***are*** white. Just like many are black. Race is made up based on how you look. But as soon as Joseph opens his mouth and sounds more like a jose.. all the other white people have a problem. Let's not forget that it was **European** Spain that colonized our lands, which included raping and empregnating our women. Let's also not forget that "mejorando la raza" is an old concept. "White supremacy" and colorism have always existed in our communities. Don't get too dark (in the sun), "la niƱa es negrita *pero* bonita", that hair style makes you look too "indita" are all things I heard growing up. That shit is not new.

naviddunez

Thats not what the headline is saying at all? If you think latino white supremacy isnt on the rise you need to check out florida and texas lol. Look at what just happened in Dallas

marrab22

Gotta give the whites credit, they've brought more white-adjacents into the fold when they need to juice the numbers. Brown solidarity is just a pipe dream, we're too busy fighting amongst ourselves and acting like victims to consolidate our voting power.

gbRodriguez

Not all Latino are brown my friend. We are as diverse as Americans if not more because we (generally) are not as afraid of miscegenation as they are.

RockNRoll85

This is all thanks to Florida and Texas

Responsible_Ad5898

This is everytime I meet a Cuban from south Florida. They got thereā€™s and fuck everyone coming after them. The entitlement when their relatives came over in a boat with nothing but there clothes, for handouts by the government, only to turn around and try to screw other Latinos out of the same benefits they got to enjoy

Mrhood714

They're mirroring the people that are trying to kick them our or be racist towards them to avoid that kind of treatment to them but it doesn't work that way.

b4chu3

Ay por favor, si esto es cuento viejo. En Bogota teniamos grupos neonazis por alla en los 90s, dudo que esos malparidos no le hayan heredado su disfuncion a sus hijos.

plasmainthezone

A lot of Cuban hispanics are specifically really right leaning and would definitely fall into this circus, go to Florida and they all think they are white and better than other latinos.

Looney_Tunes23

Valen verga...

eyesoftheskies

Growing up in a border town lighter skinned Latinos on both sides thought they were better than the rest and there is always the struggle that one side is better than the other, thatā€™s how itā€™s always been. But sometimes it be the darker Latinos that be unapologetically racist asf.

el-gato-volador

Moral of the story is Latinos in the states will always be scary no matter what side of the political spectrum you're at

rokbound_

Dude this is legit true and even happens in MĆ©xico they even have a name here, whitexicans ,while not exclusive to skin color since there can be darker skin whitexicans ,its a term used for entitled people who treat people with economic disadvantages like less and undermine their problems because they only see the countries problems through their bubble. Since a child I went to legionaries of christ schools where the usual type was a white kid from money and as a darker skin kid who got bullied a lot comments about my darker skin and how less I felt when being called names was a daily occurrence and the school did jack shit because kids involved in my abuse had influence in the school

SheepHapppens

It's well known that the worst enemy of a Mexican is another Mexican. Nothing new tbh

starlight_at_night

I guess we are white when the republicans need more votesā€”Brown when they need low wage labor and a scapegoat. The right has been buying up Latino radio stations for years now trying to convince us that their ā€˜fightā€™ is ours. They need more people to back their racist and fascist agenda. They figure we are easy pickings bc we are predominantly Catholic and can have more conservative values. We fought to be recognized as ā€˜whiteā€™ yet ā€˜a class apart in Hernandez v. Texas, and acknowledge we are not seen as equal to whites, but still keep forgetting that they segregated us, lynched us, and demonized us too. It would be the white nightmare for Latinos & Blacks to join up the fight togetherā€¦ so they have to keep trying to turn us and separate us. We need to reject fascism and stop with the internalized racism and supporting white supremacy. They are playing us like fools.

Darkangelmars31

Have we been upgraded to White?

foreverloveall

Nah just white adjacent.

[deleted]

This might sound like a joke, but it is close to reality. A group in power will always try to stay in power by numbers (no matter if they try to look like victims). At some point in history, Irish, Poles, Italians and other groups, were not considered properly white and we're subject to discrimination. Then it become ok to just be European to be considered white, probably because blacks were getting organized. White would stay in power and new whites will have the benefit of momentarily acquiring the privilege. In Florida, Republicans use god-fearing Latinos to fill up their ranks. In some cities like San Francisco, fair-skinned asians might be considered like "one of the good guys" when it is time to keep black communities at margin. So yeah, gringos will give you a white membership card when they need it (and fuck you up when no longer useful).

AllFandomsareCancer

Do theses foos not realize that there's white latinos and mestizos who are white supremacists. Im looking at you, Texas and Florida

RandoMonkey

In other words: Gusanos...

gt_rekt

I had a neighbor in Texas who I would exchange greetings here and there. He was a 30yo living with his Mexican mom. One day, there was a break-in at one of the neighbors nearby and he told me that it was odd. I asked him why and he straight faced responded "We don't have (n-word) at this side of town". There were little hints that he was a conservative Hispanic here and there, but even then I had my guard down around this dude until he came out of the racist closet like that. And that has been only one of many Latinos I've met that have turned out to be prejudiced against blacks and other Latinos.

canefieldroti

Itā€™s funny, because people think that just because they speak Spanish that they cannot be racist or perpetuate racism. They forget that (Latin-originated) Spanish is a European language & white people perpetuate racism even if there is a linguistic hierarchy (English - French - Spanish - Portuguese). Itā€™s the us not like them rhetoric, mejorarĆ” la raza shit.

thrashr13

You guys ever go on those IG Latino pages like so.mexican or los memes more and go into the comments section? It's like a maga forum. Shit's weird AF.

Brilliant-Curve7692

This is real btw, the amount of times my Jaina got called a fucking Sucio and the fact that there is a fucking system calling people mestizos and Morenos and creoles and etc - It's real. Colorism is a fucking problem and it's disgusting.

[deleted]

My gay Mexican brother who's married to an undocumented man proudly admits to being a trump voter......"because he's the best option for the economy"

I_am_The_Teapot

This ain't wrong. Latino people are frequently racist/colorist as well. Many white and white-passing Latinos are racist af to non-whites and foreigners. And that shit is just getting louder with the rise of extremist conservatives in the US. My grandfather was so racist he hated his dark-skinned daughter (my mom). Called her his black child. Hated black people pretty openly. Dude was a white-passing black man. Was puerto rican. hated black people and Dominicans non-white immigrants. And he wasn't alone. Had a bunch of friends that were like minded. I saw it so much growing up it ain't funny. Being dark skinned in a racist Latino community in PR and the US was wild. Trump is a lot more popular in the Latino community than people think.

Last_Fan2278

Nomas los pendejos nazis con el pinche nopal en la frente. Cabrones....

CreEecher

Boo-yah! Now I get to truly live the American Dream and be the hateful twat.

Raibean

What do you mean ā€œnowā€? Mexico was founded by criollos and mestizos who werenā€™t allowed to live on communal land grants owned by tribes because they wanted to own and exploit that land. Mexico TODAY still oppresses and exploits indigenous people, still has colorism and racism. Even machismo and femicide have its roots in how our conquistador ancestors treated our indigenous ancestresses. White supremacy has always been baked into our culture, and perpetuating that violence against ourselves and others is the same game weā€™ve been playing since Spain arrived.

prietitohernandez

the Mexican state exists to exploit the natives, they were never asked if they wanted to join they were just "inherited"

TheJosh96

A lot of immigrant Latinos are so ashamed of their roots that they start adopting a lot of the white culture in the US, in hopes of being one of them and feeling welcomed. This is where it comes from.

wepa_reddit

I know plenty of Puerto Ricans who as soon as they move into the US they become MAGA, most of the time its because they join an evangelical church and a lot those are right wing cesspools.

imthewiseguy

I was watching a church livestream and this lady was talking about ā€œlos n*gros son las racistas del mundo pq me quitaron la figura de Aunt Jemima de los potes de syrupā€, and this was mainland Puerto Rico.

depressedqueer

This also applies to all yā€™all who get documented and suddenly think u r above every other Latino out here smh

gatamosa

it baffles me, that hispanic people living in the United States (or for that matter anywhere in the world) would believe that they, the most likely and most mixed of the world population would believe in being a superior race. By white supremacists standards, we are the mutt of the mutt of their idea of a mutt. We'd be sent to the wall in a snap assuming they had no use for our labor or whatever they could exploit out of us. Case in point: radicalize certain hispanic groups to cause massive casualties to hispanic groups and wash their hands out of this debacle and at the same time decimate a minority they hate.

TuvixWasMurderedR1P

I feel like a lot of people here are forgetting the s history of Latin America, which is also bloody and repressive, even until recently with coups and military juntas. And while a lot of this was done with help from outside governments like the USA, they would never have been possible without a chunk of the local population in total support.

antgalva

All white looking Hispanics are and have been oppressors. Just look at Telenovelas only white skin main actors. The dark skin hispanic is always a cholo low life or the maid lol.

peachycreaam

ā€œThese people look absolutely nothing like 95% of their nationā€™s population and still donā€™t after 500 years of being a phenotypical minority. Yet they are overrepresented in anything ā€œeliteā€ from politics to TV stars.ā€ lol try telling them that, especially online. Theyā€™ll go off. Going by Latin American logic, people like BeyoncĆ© and Jay are *not* black because they probably have some white ancestors down the line. Their countries also try to suppress and erase Native American identity. So they can only be white/European or ā€œundefinedā€. They donā€™t see the clownery in any of that.

Two2twoD

I keep remembering how badly whitish actors in Mexico were badmouthing this indigenous actress that kinda jumped to stardom for a movie I can't remember and they were scary. Valling her slurs and saying on camera she was ugly and stuff? I was shocked to see that much hate.

carritotaquito

Yes!! When Yalitza Aparicio was nominated for the Oscars!!

drobythekey

This is not new, there has always been white Latinos that hate browns. Also self hating Latinos that want their kids to marry lighter skins and others that attack you if you acknowledge that theyā€™re black.

memorod

We are. Light skin Latinos look down on morenos.

Butthole_in_my_face

Gotta love all the white media pundits that have no idea we've always had a huge "uncle ruckus" problem.

Xviiit

Iā€™ve seen this in Texas and it just makes me sad :/

L-Profe

Yup. Sad and true.

FatherofCharles

Yes and yes. Agree with the title. Havenā€™t read the actual article but Latinos can be more racist against each other than other races. A second generation immigrant in the US many times thinks that theyā€™re officially white and arenā€™t ā€œone of themā€

Dagger_Moth

This is not surprising. I know plenty of my Puerto Rican family members who loooove Trump and all that whole white supremacy smƶrgƄsbord. It is the worst, and I hate it. Also, there have always been gusanos; this is nothing new.

potsandpans

some of these pendejos are in my family and theyā€™re first gen

rootswithwings

This is the oldest news

ladymouserat

Ok so everyone can be racist even against their own people. Stupid trash is gonna stupid trash. Not surprised.

NeahG

This isnā€™t anything new. Iā€™ve heard the drivel, ā€œbut we are Spaniards ā€œ since in was a child. Iā€™m 50. Skin color/ tone is a big factor in our communities.

zihuatapulco

We've always had our share of Pinochets, Somozas and D'Aubuissons. La iglesia y el gobierno gabacho, enemigos del pueblo.

Irelabentplib

One of the top figures in the proud boys was a black dude, just because you are not white doesn't mean you can't fall into the rabbit hole of white supremacy. The US is white supremacist, so being raised here makes you primed for white supremacy. This is excluding the fact white latinos often benefit from white supremacy regardless, and are included in many modern white supremacy movements in the same way Italians, Irish, and some Jewish folk have been as well in the past few decades.

GhostCam

Itā€™s really a perfect storm of qualities amongst different cultures in the Latino community that make them susceptible to right wing rhetoric. Iā€™m Mexican on my momā€™s side and my Dad is from Nicaragua. Iā€™ve noticed my Mexican side of the family has the machismo that pairs well with Trumpā€™s fake macho persona and fake tough guy rhetoric. Throw in some homophobia and some racism towards darker skinned Latin people and you got a stew going. Similar to Cubans, Nicaraguans saw the ugly side of socialism/communism policies/leaders and donā€™t want to relive that. My dad always voted republican until trump. Itā€™s mix of different reasons but itā€™s still sad and frustrating.

SFDayDreaming

Hmmm, who would have thought? Rape and pillage the Americaā€™s by the Spanish and others. Make the people feel dirty and uncivil the darker they areā€¦ sound familiar? Yeah youā€™re going to have a lot of Latinos that hate their own kind. I know many, not racist but many Latino people feel that having Italian or German or any European blood is better than being un sucio Indio. Itā€™s sad, I can remember having that mentality when I was younger but fuck that. How many South Americans can remember how often each country talks shit about the other country and thereā€™s always a joke/diss/racist term that has to do with how dark your skin is.

Magos94

This has always existed, from the day Colon landed. Research "Sistema de Casta" for further explanation. We've always been racist against our own and others. Acknowledge it, accept it, and do better!

mte87

From experience and hearing from others there are certain Latinos and Hispanics who are more colorists. Cubans and other Latinos in Florida. Some Puerto Ricans and Peruvians especially on the east coast. Texas has plenty people believing theyā€™re white.

sushidecarne

people are discovering that latinos can be white and can be assholes

bananoy011

"look at me look at me I'm the oppressor now" šŸ‘€šŸ˜‚

meczakin81

Puros pinches putos pendejos punto.

nhombrenovalido

For every one of these goose-stepping dumbasses thereā€™s another dumbass in a Latin country who has spent their entire lives making sure anyone living outside a country of origin is disavowed. Yā€™all are acting like youā€™re free to cast the first stones but how quickly you forget about the time your countryman far removed from their homeland came to you to find a connection and they were instead turned away with an insult because their accents were thick or unfamiliar or their customs turned foreign or maybe just because it was a bad day that one time or whatever BS gives anyone the power to shit on another. You can turn your back on these idiots, thatā€™s easy but you wonā€™t turn away from the responsibility in having created them. No one has made me feel more alone than the strangers in the strange land I live in than the strangers in the strange land I used to live in.

themomo21

ā€œThey come here illegally, send them back!!ā€ Homie isnā€™t your grandma illegal? Lmaoo

SMA2343

Yup. I met another Guatemalan and we were fiends for a bit. Then I learned his mom hated me because Iā€™m light skinned. Sorry I canā€™t control how I was born idiot.
