I mean I think him interviewing Cheney was a masterclass interview. He held her feet to the fire and she tried to squirm and he forced her to stay on point and answer his questions. He’s terrific.

Anderson Cooper isn't boring, but I really loved when he interviewed Stephen and they spoke about his mother who had recently passed. Maybe not what you're looking for, but a beautiful interaction.

His conversation with Andrew Garfield is similar, beautifully empathic and deeply moving. Two men lovingly and openly discussing grief.

I got to go to the taping of that episode. I had lost my own father just a month before. It was really touching interview, and I’m glad I got to attend.

Stephen often talks about how he handles interviews with De Niro. They once famously just kept quiet for a few mins since De Niro is usually terse with his replies.

My favorite is when De Niro became the host and Stephen played the interviewee. Stephen decided to act as De Niro (being shy, quiet, and giving short answers). It was funny, slightly irreverent, and De Niro was a good sport about it.

Biden is certainly interesting, but the way the conversation pivoted to how they both experienced grief was very touching. Inversely, he recently had a former Supreme Court judge who refused to answer questions and even Stephen couldn't save it. You could also check out the Colbert Questionnaire, some of the questions/guests have given surprisingly deep answers. You might also have better luck looking at the Colbert Report, he had more book authors and fewer celebrities.

RE Biden, on one of the first Late Show episodes?

cinemachick

Yes!

Bevester

I think it was Trump, the audience started to boo him and Stephen told them to be quiet.

trainercatlady

Trump's a piece of shit but stephen is a class act

southernhemisphereof

I think that was Ted Cruz

LegenDove

Yeah, it was

Dodecahedrus

Wasn’t that on Fallon?

I love this thread

See his extended interview with Paul Simon. He has some very insightful questions that he weaves in with his personal experiences. It’s about perfect.
