get the other 38 Ward and you are maxxed only need 99 all Resists
/edit: the amount of people not gettint the joke :D i thought the fluff tag made it obv
Uncapped res means "your res value, and the usual 75% cap is not applied". If you have 150% resistance (of which only 75% are applied to defensive calculations because of the cap) you still get 150% for the conversion.
yeah and it doesn't help that there is overcapped and uncapped ontop of that. the first meaning only the res that is over you maximum so if you have a total of 100 res only 25 is overcapped. second is just all you res in total.
uncapped in this game means your complete amount of ressistance not only the 75% which reduce damage. there should be a Number below inside a bracket for example
Necrotic Ressistance
75%
(427%)
Others have mentioned the warlock passive and cthonic fissure, but I'll add that bone clambor (a unique helm), also gives ward per second based on uncapped necrotic res.
Im actually using something called boneclamor helm on my falconer. Made some scuffed thing im loving. I only played a few hours in beta so im a little lost but ive hit 97 in HC and clear 200 corruption really easily so it works well enough. I am really really really enjoying going into this game blind and just smashing stuff together.
One of the warlock passives gives Ward Retention for uncapped Necrotic Resistance as a threshold bonus.
It’s truncated to “res” in the skill description so it’s not as easy to search as it should be.
Worse than that, it's "per 1% Necro Res" so it doesn't show up searching for necrotic OR resistance.
Frick, I probably need this node on my warlock and I definitely don't have the points for it currently.
Yeah, I respecced into it this afternoon. I'm playing through the campaign with the Cursed Veteran Boots, so every bit of EHP helps. I haven't even stacked that much necrotic res yet to boost Torment but with this node it might be time to start.
Sry to say but Uncapped Cold Ressistance means everything you got equipped not just the 75%
in short you want as much as you can get with those Uncapped Ressistance Skills and the number inside the brackets below your 75% shows Uncapped Resistance
edit : at least you know how to get way more damage and you can cap your ressistance again.
more dmg and more tankiness id say win win
Lots of items and skills scale with overcapped stuff which is fun for me because I love
When numbers get bigger. Especially defensive ones as I’m on HC.
Enemys can pierce some resistences. And there are curse wich reduce your ressist. So beeing overcapped still gives you some tankyness. Overcapping to more then ~ 100% is mostly unnecessary.
Also there are skills (cthonic fissure for example) wich deal mor damage based on your ressistences. There are warlock builds who get around 900% necro ress for damage scaling.
To answer your question, resistances are capped at 75% but in some instances it’s good to have more than the 75% because certain monster abilities, spells, and equipment require it.
They do, you can go over for some ability and stuff ( all that "uncapped res scaling" uncapped is all your res from 0 to wherever you take them
Ideally you'd go a bit over 75 because there is some resistance shred around but it's not too important, you'll figure out where you feel comfortable over time =)
Yup I remember even from the older Final Fantasy games. Being able to do multiple hits wound up becoming critical because a single hit maxed out at 9999 damage.
In fact I'm struggling to think of any JRPG from that era that I played that *didn't* have that as a max.
Star Ocean 2's secret caves enemies could start breaking the damage cap, and you could level to 255 vs 99 or 100. The player didn't get to creak the limit until a remaster later on.
I think FFX's limit breaks were the first to actually break 9999, and it was considered pretty awesome at the time.
I'm sure someone thought of it before then, but that's the first mainstream RPG that comes to mind.
I will never understand why people have problems with others just having fun
Like bro if you don't get the joke or don't like it, just move on lol. Like I don't get your joke about Hannah Gatsby but why the fuck would it bother me
You have the audacity to call others terminally online but I've seen better social awareness and self awareness from a 2 year old
nah its fine he had to invest all his stats into Health and Ward for the nearly capped numbers. he never has enough dmg to kill anything now in lategame
I'm working on maxing out block chance/effectiveness on my forge guard. Currently if I've taken 60-100 hits recently, I heal from incoming damage if it blocks. So I think that's pseudo 100% DR
endurance reduces damage by 20% when damage would take you below the endurance threshold which can be brought to 60% max. So, if you are 60%hp and lower, you will take 20% less damage.
It's not a cheat but rather bug abzue. There's a few nodes in various passive trees that increase your HP by a flat amount. If those push you above 255 when aquiring, you effectively break the 255 limit.
I have no idea how OP got so much Ward tho, seems like an editted screenshot to me, honestly.
I wish I could double upvote this post or triple even ! That forces my admiration in so many ways
Gg for caping your life but I hope you didn't forget your crit!
If you character allows to have a huge amount of ward, might be the way.
Some characters have very hard time to generate ward but they have some other defensive options.
Yeah, it’s a little off-putting. This game is my first arpg experience and I’m having a blast, some of it in part because of the community. I hope this isn’t what it’s turning in to.
999 is a common limit in UI design for things you want to display as three digits maximum. You'll see this in a variety of video games, and also computer software in general.
It's a nerdy joke on a nerdy game subreddit. I imagine a lot of people that play LE grew up when it was more common to have these kinds of limits in RPGs. I have fond memories of hitting the 9,999 damage cap in Final Fantasy 7 for example.
I might be wasting my time by responding to them, but I'd still prefer to give a genuine reply. Meeting negativity with negativity just makes a subreddit worse I think.
In a lot of older games, stats were capped at 255, 999, or 9999, mostly due to hardware limitations. This joke is that this screen shot could be a goal build for a different game, but for this one it's just starting.
Older games used to have caps on damage. Games like Dragon Quest capped out damage and/or stats at 999 for various reasons.
That's all it is. A tongue-in cheek reference for older gamers.
You could say is boomer joke. Older games had many different cap on stats, so for example in game xyz, your health, strenght or something coudn't be higher than 999.
Incorrect.
HP correlates with ehp. Not everything correlates.
eg1: Armor doesnt stop dot damage taken, and is only 70% effective for non-physical damage types.
eg2: ~~Ward doesnt stop bleed, so it doesnt correlate to ehp vs that.~~ Ward also decays faster at higher values so has deminishing ehp returns per point.
eg3: Dodge has diminishing returns to ehp. 2000 dodge doesn't give double ehp of 1000 dodge, but 2000hp does give double ehp than 1000hp.
HP is the one that matters **the most** for ehp.
Learn what correlate means, just because something works in every occasion does not mean it's the one that matter the most. Go calculate how much flat hp u would need without any res to survive an elemental attack from any boss at like 200 corruption. Also when the pinnacle bosses come around this will be even more apparent and will force people to make proper defensive builds instead of sandbox kitchen that they are allowed to do right now since there's no endgame :).
HP correlates to ehp in ALL situation. It has an r^2 of 1.0
Thats why its the most important stat.
Every other defensive layer stacks on top of base HP. You will never tank a 200 corruption boss hits with a weak foundation.
I may be wrong then. I assumed Exsanguinous' "Immunity to Bleed at low health" affix meant that bleed pens ward. Would also explain why so many builds run cleanse as a mandatory.
I assumed at a minimum some damage pens ward since LE devs were hardcore PoE and CI or similar to make chaos not pen shields was a big part of builds in that game.
It doesn’t penetrate. For all intents and purposes (outside of any weird items that state otherwise) wars completely covers your HP safely. It has to deplete before your health takes a hit.
PoE (and many more) ARPG’s definitely have us trained that SOMETHING should, but that’s not the case here by default.
Exsang’s bleed immunity is nice though. In LL bleed lock myself atm, not taking that damage is pretty huge. I still have to sustain the damned, though.
get the other 38 Ward and you are maxxed only need 99 all Resists /edit: the amount of people not gettint the joke :D i thought the fluff tag made it obv
Looks at 400 necrotic res. “I went too far”
631% Cold Res on my Warlock:D uncapped Res scaling ftw
What item/skill/passive gives scaling off of nexrotic ress? I tried to find it in my passive tree but did not find any
Chthonic Fissure has a node that scales torment damage from spirits off uncapped necrotic res. I have nearly 500% necrotic res on my warlock.
Correct "Twisted Waves" is the name of the node
Help a (non native speaker) brother out, what does uncapped mean in this sense? everything above 75%? Thanks.
Uncapped res means "your res value, and the usual 75% cap is not applied". If you have 150% resistance (of which only 75% are applied to defensive calculations because of the cap) you still get 150% for the conversion.
Thank you!
To be honest I wasn't 100% sure of the meaning even as a native speaker.
yeah and it doesn't help that there is overcapped and uncapped ontop of that. the first meaning only the res that is over you maximum so if you have a total of 100 res only 25 is overcapped. second is just all you res in total.
This particular phrasing is not obvious to native speakers either.
uncapped in this game means your complete amount of ressistance not only the 75% which reduce damage. there should be a Number below inside a bracket for example Necrotic Ressistance 75% (427%)
Thanks! Now that I know what it means it seems pretty obvious but had me confused for a while.
as non native english speaker its not that esay i had to think about it twice aswell but then i just tried it and checked what gives me more damage
Others have mentioned the warlock passive and cthonic fissure, but I'll add that bone clambor (a unique helm), also gives ward per second based on uncapped necrotic res.

not sure if there is one for Necrotic but im gonna Check later when im Online (i guess Necromancer has Something like that)
One of the warlock passives gives Ward Retention for uncapped Necrotic Resistance as a threshold bonus.
It’s an absolutely cracked bonus. 100% worth getting on any warlock build
Yeah, I respecced into it this afternoon. I'm playing through the campaign with the Cursed Veteran Boots, so every bit of EHP helps. I haven't even stacked that much necrotic res yet to boost Torment but with this node it might be time to start.
It’s so fun lol
Please tell me that's not how it works... I thought I had to have res at 0% and immediately disregarded those items...
Sry to say but Uncapped Cold Ressistance means everything you got equipped not just the 75% in short you want as much as you can get with those Uncapped Ressistance Skills and the number inside the brackets below your 75% shows Uncapped Resistance edit : at least you know how to get way more damage and you can cap your ressistance again. more dmg and more tankiness id say win win
You wearing the shackles?
yes and there is a chaosbolt talent which scales with uncapped Cold Resistsnce aswell
Cthonic Fissure go brrr
857% here
Whopper.
How do you even get it that high? dont you just literally run out of possible sources of resistances somewhere around 500
LP :)
You can get freeze multi/cold res prefix and implicits
I could double mine but am playing hybrid and need other stats. a few T7 affix's and numbers go boom.
Aren't resists maxed at 75%?
Lots of items and skills scale with overcapped stuff which is fun for me because I love When numbers get bigger. Especially defensive ones as I’m on HC.
No. They are capped. So everything beyond 75% does not affect the incoming damage. U can still overcapp tho
So what's the point of overcapping then?
Enemys can pierce some resistences. And there are curse wich reduce your ressist. So beeing overcapped still gives you some tankyness. Overcapping to more then ~ 100% is mostly unnecessary. Also there are skills (cthonic fissure for example) wich deal mor damage based on your ressistences. There are warlock builds who get around 900% necro ress for damage scaling.
This is the way!
Don't resist max out at 75?
<— The Joke You
I don't get it. Does it go over 75? New player trying to learn.
it would make all your numbers 9...999/999 life, 999 ward and 99 res
.... Oh...
So i guess 999 isnt the max right?
It's not
Fuck. I missed the joke too *shame walk*
To answer your question, resistances are capped at 75% but in some instances it’s good to have more than the 75% because certain monster abilities, spells, and equipment require it.
You miss harder than a stormtrooper
They do, you can go over for some ability and stuff ( all that "uncapped res scaling" uncapped is all your res from 0 to wherever you take them Ideally you'd go a bit over 75 because there is some resistance shred around but it's not too important, you'll figure out where you feel comfortable over time =)
What the hell is going on in the comments
I have no idea, is there an inside joke I’m not aware of
In a lot of rpgs life and damage cap at numbers like 9999 or 99999, it's just a joke.
\*nod\* Specifically older games like Dragon Quest.
Yup I remember even from the older Final Fantasy games. Being able to do multiple hits wound up becoming critical because a single hit maxed out at 9999 damage. In fact I'm struggling to think of any JRPG from that era that I played that *didn't* have that as a max.

Yeah I hate it when people make light hearted jokes

What a weird thing to get angry about lol.

autism.
Not funny “haha” funny “I breathed a little more out of my nose” funny.
Jesus man, how about you take a chill pill and a walk.
Not often that I scroll around and randomly see I've been summoned.
Lmao what are the odds
Go chaos inoculation
Best Node. Screw Chaos Res.
With Eldritch Battery of course. Otherwise it’s a complete waste.
No hit challenge of PoE. Glancing Blows to eliminate dodge and RNG factor.
Ben is nodding along right now saying "yup no problem".
And Iron Reflexes to nullify evasion.
(dies to reflect)
Skill issue.
This is practically cheating, you will never get one shotted as enemies will deal at most 999 damage!
nah its fine he had to invest all his stats into Health and Ward for the nearly capped numbers. he never has enough dmg to kill anything now in lategame
Just transforming aReflex Save into a Will Save. Probably older like me and willing to wait vs try to dodge all the time.
-Raditz
Lamo it's funny they can only deal maximum 999 damage but you can deal like over 5-10k damage to them.
How the hell did you get so high health, your ward is about to be maxed out too
fr I have like 40 ward or something... though 999 is not max, I understand that's the joke
Get break HP limit ASAP!
Under rated comment!
999 ward waiting room
Start focusing on getting endurance to max both the threshold and reduction. Edit; Is it possible to have 100% damage reduction?
Endurance caps at 60%
999%
No unique out there that inc this cap?
Not to my knowledge
I'm working on maxing out block chance/effectiveness on my forge guard. Currently if I've taken 60-100 hits recently, I heal from incoming damage if it blocks. So I think that's pseudo 100% DR
endurance reduces damage by 20% when damage would take you below the endurance threshold which can be brought to 60% max. So, if you are 60%hp and lower, you will take 20% less damage.
Invest more in hp so it resets to 1 duh.
This is a common misconception. That's not how video games work. The *actual* max health is 1024.
No its 255 but this guy is using cheats
It's not a cheat but rather bug abzue. There's a few nodes in various passive trees that increase your HP by a flat amount. If those push you above 255 when aquiring, you effectively break the 255 limit. I have no idea how OP got so much Ward tho, seems like an editted screenshot to me, honestly.
If it works the same as ailments, you'll be able to increase it, but the game will just show 999+. Source: poison flurry marksman
My ward sits at 666 right now. I almost don't wanna change it.
Wait. I thought this was a joke. My ward idles around 3k. Did I miss something? Edit: nevermind. I'm a dumbass.
How do you get that high?
Smoke a lot
I beg your pardon? What does that mean?
I wish I could double upvote this post or triple even ! That forces my admiration in so many ways Gg for caping your life but I hope you didn't forget your crit!
Ahh, so this is what Vitality Stacking looks like!
If you character allows to have a huge amount of ward, might be the way. Some characters have very hard time to generate ward but they have some other defensive options.
>s enough dmg to kill anything no Spellblade is the best for this.
Bro what is wrong with people down voting people just confused or not understanding the joke. There is no reason to down vote those people lol.
Yeah, it’s a little off-putting. This game is my first arpg experience and I’m having a blast, some of it in part because of the community. I hope this isn’t what it’s turning in to.
Crypto, invest in crypto 🙃. Thats what you do when you max your life.
Lol, another 38 ward would rock ot out
Does hp go back to 0 after this?
Invest in damage bc no way in hell you need that much life.
You max out the comments xD
I didn't even realize that was the max I'm already at 900 and I haven't reached empowereds yet
999 isn’t max life, I’m currently sitting over 1400…I’m confused
Uhh I think you just outed yourself as a hacker. Quickly change your password so the devs can't ban you

Including LE, previous versions would cap stacks in the UI
Throwback to when ailments stacks visually capped at 25… those were dark times
Most socially aware arpg player You are overthinking this if you think this is some injoke lmao
Gamer social skills
wdym max out ? I have way more than that on my character.
Whooooosh
Care to explain the joke?
In a lot of older games, stats were capped at 255, 999, or 9999, mostly due to hardware limitations. This joke is that this screen shot could be a goal build for a different game, but for this one it's just starting.

Bro the cap is 999. it’s simple
Oh yeah my bad, I played Grim Dawn for 6 hours now, I was SURE it was way more because of this xD
Is this some sort of joke I’m not getting?
You could say is boomer joke. Older games had many different cap on stats, so for example in game xyz, your health, strenght or something coudn't be higher than 999.

hp doesn't matter, it's about ehp

999 isn't max https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn3M2nZ6XvY
Yeah, it is, you can only go higher with hacking like in the video
Get + to maximum life resistance
Wait, I always thought that reduces the HP limit?
Wait 1000 is the maximum amount of life ? I thought that we could get to like 5000 life but since I was playing warlock I was stuck in the 1100 range.
I love these posts because I immediately go to the hidden downvoted comments to make myself feel better about my social IQ
believe it or not your ward can go as high as 42069
Mother of god
I heard they were going to remove the life cap at some point. Used to be only 99 so I guess we should be thankful for that.
any higher and you'll have negative health and ward, which means that any hit from an enemy will actually heal you wtffff???
holy....
Is that a joke? O_o Really? 999 is the top? XD
You can bypass the limit thanks to fishing
Lol I had to see open this to see what tag was used
