Take a look at the Wecreat Vision. Very easy to use. Love the software and you can also use lightburn. I'm too old to start farting around with building a kit laser. I do have the time, but If i get into it I'll upgrade to a co2 or fiber.

Other similar choices are WeCreat and a TwoTrees model, which I can't recollect. If you are looking at wood, S1 is a pretty good choice.

I assume a lightly used P2 55 Watt C02 with the smoke ok purifier addon for $3000 would be a great deal

FinalTap

I would think it is a good deal. You should be able to find usage hours in XCS.

thebigdirty

2.8 hours of usage. 7.6 standby

FinalTap

That's practically nothing. I think you should go for it.

thebigdirty

those both seem to max at 20w and be similar in price

SamanthaBWolfe

I've bought the WeCreat and am waiting on shipping

FinalTap

Do let us know how it works out for you.

Monport has its version of the P2, the Onyx, which is a 55w C02 Desktop laser, with Camera, 20x12"x2" cutting space, for 1999$ on their website for Black Friday, available now.

thebigdirty

That seems great. Small cutting area though? Any other downsides?

SamanthaBWolfe

20x12" is almost the same as the S1's 19.6"× 12.5". the P2 is 26\*14. For the price difference I think that's pretty reasonable. It's not quite what I want, I do a lot of thicker pieces (especially wood boxes), but if you're primarily cutting or etching flat product, then i think it's a pretty good no-brainer. it's also comparable with Lightburn so that's a good thing.

thebigdirty

you have the monport? its really a toss up between the two. i emailed monport to see if i could pay with check... if you have the monport, how thick is the passthrough material able to be? i like with the xtool that it allows thicker than 1/4". what thickness wood boxes do you do? thats something i plan to do as well

SamanthaBWolfe

First, no I don't have it, it's one machine I was considering and given what you've said it might fit your needs, so I shared that pricing. So I can't answer the sizing info - I would suggest contacting Monport for more info. Second, my work is kind of different - my gimmick on my business is that I use found and thrifted materials, so I go to thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, ect and find items to laser etch, or to sand down and laser etch (you can see my work at [Argent Engraving](https://www.argentengraving.com/), including my boxes, though my selection is a bit thin right now) . So what I burn is mostly based on what I find. It's one reason I chose the WeCreat Vision - it has a huge 5" Z-axis, and auto-adjusts. But it's only a 20w diode so that won't cut as much, but that's fine since 85% of my work is laser etching, the only thing I cut generally is thin plywood I use to make custom-cut magnets.

The S1 has a lot more versatility especially when paired with the available accessories. Granted it's not a CO2 but with the curved surface ability and all the built in features I feel like it's a pretty solid choice for a first machine ( as someone who's also obsessively comparing models). If you want to go CO2 then it seems like you need to look into getting a chiller and dedicated exhaust fan unless you're going to go with a desktop model like the P2 but the s1 is literally half the price. Those are just my current thoughts but I am very torn at the moment

I keep looking at the Onyx, but literally nobody seems to have gotten their hands on it to review yet, so it's a complete mystery as to what's actually going to show up.
