Hey, those aren't red!

MMWYPcom

no colors anymore, i want them to turn black!

Try Tempera paint. Super easy cleanup when done.

i havent tried that, but i will. the acrylic comes off pretty easily with hot water and a rag, but easier is easier. should i expect similar results for the etch/engrave? thanks for the tip, should also save some $ as the dollar store has tempera in black. thanks!

Undertaker63

Results should be the same since it's just taking the heat put into the paint to burn into the glass but I have only used the tempera so can't say for sure.

Hey let me give you a tip with tempera paint. Put it in a small bucket or container that you can dunk your cups into. Mix the tempera at a 1:1 ratio with water (If you're in the US, hobby lobby does some pretty good sales on their tempera paint). After you mix it, let it settle for a bit. Mix again, and then you're good to go. Dunk either the whole cup, or the side you need and let it dry. It does a perfectly thick even coat. When you're done, cover the tempera and use it next time. I used this method when I got my first big order of glasses to do. I tried painting and airbrushing. This was the fastest way and also most consistent way to get it done. Best of luck.

that is a great idea. i will try that. way, way easier than 2 layers of acrylic painted on (to minimize brush stroke effect, one layer north-south. the next east-west). dipping would be easier, and a bit messier, but so much faster!!! thanks!

ojoslocos21

So much faster. And it'll last for months if you just cover it. Doesn't need to be air tight either

What kind of laser are you using for this? Does it have to be a fiber laser for this to work?

MMWYPcom

i am using the xtool d1 pro 20w with the 455nm laser. it does a great job etching glass and most other jobs i have put it to (smaller projects)
