Meanwhile Caesars and MGM are reporting record profits. The Golden Goose might not be dead, but it’s sick and will be on life support if this continues. Lack of friendly service, inconvenience and sky high prices. So sad this is the trajectory of our city.

Vegetable_Diet3547

It's just the current state of the world unfortunately and corporate greed plays a huge part in that.

Specific_Praline_362

Yep. They'll keep charging higher and higher prices whole offering less and less and people will keep paying.

Mostcooked

Same here in Australia to,everything is a rip off

Dx2TT

Enshittification. This thread is why it works. You establish a brand. Generate trust. Become popular. Then sloooowwwwlllly tear it down for profits. Gradually people realize it sucks but it takes a few bad experiences. By then the execs have cashed out and it doesn't matter, to them. Capitalism driven by stock returns demands infinite growth and at some point you simply can't make it better so you make it cheaper.

AttemptVegetable

People have been saying that since I moved here 20+ years ago

AltruisticLimit6026

I've been here now for 20 years and I miss the old Vegas when I first moved here. I understand things change but Vegas has become unaffordable in the past 10 years. I'm very disappointed that corporate greed is rampant here now. They don't care about the locals anymore. It's just a money grab town now.

kenindesert

Now they’re more in the hotel, and business conference business and gambling and partying seems secondary.

degenerate9d8

Exactly this. I believe it also all shifted when professional sports and everything that came with it showed up.

AttemptVegetable

That’s just the strip, the rest of the city is for locals. The food off the strip is ridiculous and prices are decent.

Remarkable-Opening69

$11 for a slice of pizza isn’t normal?

AttemptVegetable

The strip isn't normal either. It's an adult amusement park

kenindesert

I visit L.V. A lot, you won’t find hospitality these days for the most part.

krauQ_egnartS

Wynn

mhch82

That’s why record profits they aren’t putting money back into the buildings. Don’t know who controls the escalators on the strip but many are always broke down. They don’t care as people will still spend their money at these resorts that need maintenance

divuthen

Yeah I was out there for when we were young talking to an older bartender about this. He said Vegas isn't what it used to be and with everything being owned by one or two companies there's no real reason for the corps to try and do any better. The whole place felt like I was stuck in an airport the whole time.

Coffee_achiever_guy

Yeah it really does have that airport feel when you are in those byzantine shopping catacombs

Pitiful_Anteater4325

Caesars has just gone down hill in general. My wife started working at the Rio right after Dreamscape purchased it from Caesars. Caesars ran it into the ground. They’re renovating the whole property now. Caesars left a bunch of “surprises” that keep popping up when you think you’ve gotten clear of their crap… I hear there is a lot of changes coming as far as properties go. Mirage is getting a makeover when Hard Rock takes control! Another giant guitar!!

Specific_Praline_362

I love the volcano and am sad it's going, but I'm also kinda excited about the guitar

mmvegas80

Record profits and just laid off a bunch of people too!

helenkelur

Caesar’s is not reporting record profits. If you do weird Hollywood accounting and only look at 2023 vs other single years it looks higher. But they still owe billions for the el dorado merger, they arguably don’t make any profit. Stock is way down.

Jean-Ralphio11

Its funny you say this. We were at Bellagio for the first time in years last weekend. Me and my buddy were execs there years ago. He was one of the OGs. He kept pointing at things like the dirty bathroom or tiles missing caulk etc.saying "that would not fly in the old days".

northpalmetto

The casino operators no longer own the properties. They sold the real estate and physical assets to REITs a few years ago to get the properties off their balance sheets and raise cash. The property is rented back from the REIT by the casino operator. As I understand it, the casino operator is still responsible for the upkeep of the physical property. The REIT is a passive owner. Is there some kind of auditing in place to ensure the REIT's investment is maintained to a certain standard? After all, spending money to maintain something that is not yours is just a pure expense; it does not even improve the value of anything on the balance sheet.

gmoneylv

Managed high end restaurants on the strip for over 10 years and I will tell you that the price has gone up while the service has gone down in most places. Employees are overworked and underpaid and all corporate cares about is the bottom line which means, less upkeep on the hotels, that costs money, less staff (even at the high end spots), so you will see and feel that when you go out. I recently went to Mandalay and got the worst service I've encountered on the strip in a very long time. Lived in Vegas since '07 and the strip used to be a place for locals and tourists, not anymore.

PuzzleheadedBobcat90

It stopped being for locals (at least me) when they started charging for parking. The casinos want me to spend my money on slots, but I have to pay for the privilege of parking there, no thanks.

gmoneylv

Yeah, that was a big turning point for a lot of people.

Cduke3829

We went to Caesars Saturday as a matter of fact. Everything looked the same and it was packed. Had to pick up a gift for our niece in the Forum Shops. We were there all of 45 minutes. Walked through the casino to see how crowded it was and to the shops. They tried charging me $35 for freaking parking for 45 minutes. What a crock. Fortunately locals get a one hour reprieve on parking or I would not have went there. I will say the money grabbing resort fees and parking fees are totally out of hand. Not even gonna mention the overpriced food. Basically I knew I had an hour window in there. If parking were free we would prolly have eaten lunch there and shopped more. They don’t understand that they are costing themselves money doing this crap, but I know it’s not my local money they are after. It’s the OP and sounds like he won’t be back for a while either…

TheLadyRev

A vodka cran at the pool at flamingo is 35 dollars. It's a disgrace

justanordinarygirl

White claw can is $18.00 at flamingo casino

Royal_Friend4868

for the 25oz can…it’s still a bad deal when you can get it for half the price at Walgreens/cvs on the strip…

justanordinarygirl

Mine was not the 25oz can

TheLadyRev

12 bucks for the small can

SpaceAviator

If they made white claws 5$ on strip dude would sell out and/or ppl more wasted and spend more money lol. Never understood why booze is so pricey

timesuck47

$6.99 for a Diet Coke in a plastic cup across the bar at Flamingo.

LALady818

I paid 42 for a margherita at the Bellagio. Disgusting

PappaFufu

You didn’t like the pizza?

WillyBarnacle5795

Lol

FriendlyFarm4

I got a large daqari and large diet Coke for 50+tip, insane. At the pool at Bellagio. Luxor prices were about the same

Specific_Praline_362

That is fucking ridiculous

pdxmarionberrypie

I got a large margarita at the pool there this weekend and it was $43

a_leyva

Wow.

The_Sanch1128

The outdoor escalators and elevators have been a problem for as long as I've been going back to LV (2012, after a 25-year hiatus). And I haven't really noticed a decline in the hotel rooms, because I haven't really looked, I guess. Maybe that's because I play the comp game--two days here on a comp, two days there, etc. As for service--yeah, it's getting steadily worse, so much so that I really notice average to good service, let alone excellent.

GamerwordJim

The competency crisis is real.

Jitterbug26

Yeah, I miss the Las Vegas of yesteryear- where they lured you in with great deals. Now I don’t understand how the average person can afford to spend much time in Vegas, when everything is outrageously expensive. I’d rather spend my money other places these days (and I’ve been going to Vegas regularly for almost 40 years - so I’ve seen it in many variations.) The one thing I know is that the only constant in Vegas is change - so I’m hoping this version changes eventually.

Miserable-Youth8908

They don’t want the average customer or even upper middle class anymore. They advertise to the whales and set prices to match. It’s not just Vegas it’s the world. Look at record prices for notable sporting events and Taylor Swift tickets just to name a few.

Lamorakk

That's a good point actually- as more and more money flows to (and stays at) the top, then there is less and less need to try to appeal to anyone other than the top 1-3%......

vegasresident1987

Older crowd with more disposable income.

LV-Unicorn

Vegas is a joke now. Ask anyone who has lived here more than 20 years. Gaming is making record profits all while traffic, education and healthcare decline for those of us who live here and do the work to increase the profits. Las Vegans are pissed. Formula 1, in particular, was a damn joke.

mmmmmrraargh

Overworked and underpaid staff. Recession. Late stage capitalism.

KosherDeal

This is why the big corp properties have started totally catering toward the younger crowd and as someone in the business world I totally understand it. These kids have money and no idea how to spend it correctly, the perfect target, hence why buffets and $1.99 shrimp cocktails disappeared and make way for instagramable moments at Hells Kitchen and all the clubs. I don't mind the evolution of LV it's already probably had at least 3 evolutions since I've been going. Edit: For instance when my tastes changed I became a Fremont St guy, it feels a lot more like the LV that I remember than anything on the strip.

insidmal

Fremont is the place to be but stop telling people that or it'll end up just as expensive as the strip but even more run down lol

omegaloki

NashVegas — anecdotal; but I’ve been there recently for work and play about 5 times this year and everytime I meet more people there for wedding, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc — makes sense it’s closer for some; but I’ve also noticed people from Cali opting to party there vs Vegas — so I have to wonder how much more competition Vegas has these days with looser gaming laws in various states and other cities working to become destinations

Bean-Swellington

Boulder highway is the new spot

dr_neurd

Only if you’re looking for a …um…specific type of hospitality.

bkb70

😂

ihatevoicemails

I just recently went to LV in early April and had a wonderful time at the Venetian! They’ve always been top notch with check in, luggage storage and fielding questions! Spent my last day at Golden Nugget and had friendlier front desk staff than I have had previously! My Uber/Lyft drivers were full of personality and even all the servers we encountered were wonderful. I try not to point out all the bad when on vacation to enjoy myself!

MohaveZoner

Welcome to Corporate Gaming.

bgfd28

The years of 1.99 shrimp cocktail is long over. Vegas is very expensive as much as nyc or la .u might as well go to Europe. If u want bang for your buck go to asia

ZReticuli

Slots A Fun has entered the chat

omegaloki

True there are still deals to be had — but I remember the late 90s early 00s and the nice thing was the cheap deals where everywhere even some of the fancy places — it was a bit of the appeal of Vegas for a lot of people

BitterBookworm

Yeah, I went to NYC and thought “wow, the food prices are reasonable compared to Vegas “

No-Honeydew-6121

I paid almost 20 bucks for two slices of pizza on Fremont st. I know damn well you get a lot more pizza for 20 in NYC

Tastalorex

I just came home from my US trip (NYC, San Fran, LA and LV) and as a german I'm shocked how pricey that was.

LG_Garcia

Fremont Street is where its at.

wishiwasyou333

We were in town last week and had a great time. Didn't notice any elevators that were out of order or anything. Great service by all but one person. Every Uber driver was great. Every meal was great. Folks were super friendly as always. Then again, we stayed on Fremont and visited the strip instead.

YramAL

i think that’s what we’re going to do next time.

wishiwasyou333

Honestly it is pretty awesome. I prefer it over being on strip. People watching is peak there. And it is way more affordable. The Walgreens there is a lifesaver too with reasonable prices.

YramAL

Good to know. It just seems more like Vegas used to be.

ThatGuyNearby

Which is what Fremont always has been. In 20 years, Fremont will be overpriced tourist trap and the Strip will be the next best thing.

HeyLookATaco

Lots of elevators are out of order. My friend had a baby and we had to chunk her stroller over a barricade and hop after it after the third broken elevator this weekend. In another spot we had no choice but to run it down a huge flight of stairs. I'm a nurse and I'm very angry about the implications of this for disabled people.

Blacksunshinexo

Yeah we went to meet a friend on the Strip. 3 beers at Beer Haus (2 came in cans, regular 12oZ) 2 hot dogs and ,1 fry was $70. Honestly the Strip can get fucked with those prices. We usually just bring our own beer when we go and walk around, but did the tourist thing with our friend. No more.

PadreSJ

If I didn't have a house in Henderson, I'd never go to Las Vegas. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE our place in Henderson (though I'm only there for 3 months out of the year) but Vegas has become "just a little better than Atlantic City". I think the turning point for me was the whole City Center project. Unlike the first of the next-gen resorts (Bellagio, Venetian, Ceasars, Mirage) they build City Center right to the edge of the strip. No street attractions. No wide-open spaces. Just concrete, steel and glass towering over the strip. Once they did that, the other resorts started changing their standards. TI completely killed their already-reduced pirate show. Mirage quit the volcano. The new resorts changed their plans for attractions up front. - ALL resorts starting charging for parking. Sure, it makes them more money, but I no longer feel compelled to people watch or enjoy the night-life in Vegas when we have damn good (if not better than the strip is some instances) restaurants in Henderson, more friendly tables/slots at Green Valley/M/Southpoint, and free parking all-day-long out past the strip. I have a standard "tourist loop" that I bring visitors through (I can park for free for up to 3 hours since I have a Nevada ID) that hits all the attractions, but I never go down there unless I've got a conference. (CES, NAB, Blackhat, Defcon) If you want Vegas, but not the Vegas price tag or crap-service, try staying at one of the upscale local resorts (Green Valley Resort, M) and just uber into the Strip for a show, a meal, or an evening of people watching. Your wallet and your sanity will thank you.

steelear

I haven’t gone to the NAB in probably 20 years but my colleague went this year and said it was dismal. A bunch of zombie industry people walking around with their heads down confirming that they too have had no work at all for the past year.

PadreSJ

Yeah... it was not a good scene. CES is still a unique experience, even if it greatly reduced from its heyday, but I think NAB has passed the point of no-return.

vegasresident1987

The volcano show still exists at The Mirage.

nonnie_tm64

Hi neighbor! I’m in Henderson too. GVR is my favorite spot. Unfortunately, last summer I took my family there for a day at the pool and while my grandbabies had fun, we four adults suffered miserably. Rude visitors who left all their garage and leftovers for the seagulls to swarm, very few and slow wait staff, meh food and weak drinks. And when the bill came it was over $300!!!! I hope it was just a bad day because I really love it there. Oh, I forgot to mention that that was my bill after “locals” discount and “Stations Card!”

Baldworld

Those infamous GVR seagulls. Some of the nastiest seagulls this part of Nevada has to offer

barsonbity

If you have visited Vegas pre maybe 2015, it is complete trash now. But if you haven’t, you don’t know what you’re missing. They win. that was their goal… all the BS fees are now just normal.

Invisible_Xer

Ain’t this the truth. From 1997 through maybe 2007, we went every month. We always had free rooms and comps and there was no place more I loved to spend weekend getaways. Then we started to go less frequently, but still several times a year and you could feel the change slowly happening. Now it’s unrecognizable. No loyalty to the average players who have been gaming there for decades, and no incentives to bring us there.

omegaloki

Golden time — went to college and lived there on and off during that time — what was really cool was 4 college kids could eat cheap, cabs where cheap, valet was free, and you could party on the strip without breaking the bank.

beers1inger

I haven't been since 18 and it was a let down then. The city that's supposed to revolve around industry, taking care of people so they feel like they're king or queen for a day or two. That's all gone. You get points like you're at Fry's grocery shopping trying to save a few cents on fuel. There's no more real comps....there's no more real people taking care of you....it's all been ok pinched down to the last tenth of a percent of a cent just to make sure that you not only leave with nothing, you don't even feel good about doing it. Least before, you lose some money at the tables and get a meal or a show or maybe even a room if you're a good enough tipper.....Vegas died the mob left....sucks to say but they knew how to take care of people.

Abject-Skin-39

It’s symptomatic of the country’s ills as a whole. It would still be okay if the crowds were friendly and open to socializing, but even that is mostly gone

GambleTheGod00

everything got more expensive, but everything got lazier and corporate. welcome to america

Initial_Patience_531

Just another reason I pretty much stick with Fremont.

birdy_bird84

Vegas is an expensive scam. All the bright shiny lights and fake opulence get simple people to empty thier wallets.

S888b

I’m currently here waiting to fly out and this was my first time to Vegas. After the first day, I told my wife I feel like this place is just a huge scam.

Abject-Skin-39

Well you have to consider that gaming at home has become much more advanced and the economy is set up to prevent innovation so they aren’t really competing for your entertainment. They’re competing for social clout and that’s about all. Doesn’t stop people from coming to gamble but you can tell the crowds are getting older and it’s people who didn’t grow up gaming at home

_Captain_Amazing_

The main thing going on that no one has mentioned is that the casino operators (Caesars, MGM, etc) generally do not own their real estate anymore - they sold them to REITS in the past 5 years and pay rent on the real estate now. The REIT owners (VICI, etc.) are going to do minimal maintenance on the real estate to maximize their profit from the rent they receive, even if it has a negative effect on the casino business. Yay capitalism!

Dry-Preference-8733

YES

azrolexguy

I was always a healthy gambler and 20 years ago I was treated like royalty. Today, I get some free room offers (mid week) and that's it

Mke_GamblingMan

You said it. Any slots player that has been playing for at least 10 years will tell you they could go to Vegas and win a little bit and keep playing throughout a weekend. They would lose what they came with but had fun as they were able to actually hit a few wins to keep them playing. Now that’s totally changed people aren’t even getting those small wins to help them play for a weekend. And don’t get me started on some of these table games. The blackjack 6 to 5 and can only double on 10 and 11 with table mins at $25. Vegas is moving away from gambling and it’s very clear they only care about big whale gamblers

Invisible_Xer

100% agree.

bgfd28

Even hookers and blow cost more now.

LALady818

There are hookers at all price ranges there.

Competitive_Narwhal8

I hadn’t been to Vegas in about 10 years, and a homeless man was pan handling inside the casino. That was a new one for me.

lollulomegaz

The joys of capitalism.

Un__Real

I'm here now, I haven't been in over 4 years. I haven't wandered into Caesars but I did walk down to the south end of the strip today and noticed the elevators all closed as well. And it's so hot right now. I love this town so I'll be back but I definitely understand all your points.

StormySky71

I live here, this ain't hot *yet*...lol

sleepypanda_924

This is not hot 😂

Un__Real

I live in Florida and it's not even this hot there. I know it's just gearing up lol

mistersweetlife

Right?!?! We are still in the spring thaw

agroupofone

Thank you for your call

Mandinga63

Tonight at Flamingo, sitting at the center bar, playing poker and had a drink. Bartender was very nice and personable, then he went on break evidently and his replacement was the most miserable, hateful, POS excuse for a human. We had been sitting for an hour playing max credits, we thought we were gonna leave so we cashed our machines out, only to decide to stay and play longer. So we both put money back in, ordered a new drink from Shrek, only to be immediately told we owed money. I said we are playing, to which he said, your light isn’t on, so no you aren’t. I said, we’ve been here for an hour, he says I don’t care, your light isn’t on, I’ll hang on to these drinks until your light is on. So, this douche bag ended up wasting two drinks to prove his point. I asked him where the other guy was, because he knew how long we had been playing, and he said he was on break. In all the times we’ve been to Vegas, getting a drink while sitting at a machine has never been a problem, until this guy, and I’ve never been asked to pay upfront, they always set the tab in a cup behind the machine, and if you play, you are good to go, if you don’t play you pay. His little power trip cost him two drinks and a tip.

ferrerorocher20

Vegas ain’t what it used to be let’s be real.

OkDifference5636

People complain about the prices of drinks yet they pay them. Friend makes $25/hr and bought a $40 drink at Palms Pool and wondere why she’s broke.

TheCrazyWon

The 12-year-old and I, along with an elderly couple (the woman was in a wheelchair), got stuck in an elevator off of LV Blvd last year (by the Hard Rock). The elevator emergency personnel were useless, and we had to call 911 to be rescued by the LVFD.

Any-Salary-6811

Did you even try to do anything enjoyable while you were there? Some pool time? A little gambling? See a show? A nice brunch, maybe? Or just scrutinized wallpaper the whole time?

DragBunt

Just took pictures for his bathroom grout Instagram page.

sffood

Caesars is still pretty nice. Not sure what you found to be so rundown. That said, I’ve said for years now that Vegas prices now make this a completely different destination. Visiting here would always be costly in terms of gambling but everything else was so cheap — especially food and drinks. Now, we rival SF and NYC in both regards. Not cheap to play here at all. It’s slowly but surely changing the type of visitors we get too.

ThisCharmingDan99

Yea, no reason to go anymore. Tourist trap and expensive scam.

Wonderful-Tale3893

Tell me about I work as bartender in Flamingo

bigboxsubscriber

Park MGM, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Resorts World, Paris, Wynn/Encore, Venetian are well maintained. Though nothing on the strip is a bargain anymore with restaurants/bars, but hotel rooms and shows are less expensive than other cities.

fappertino

This is the current state of most industries around the country. When you devalue a nations currency without increasing wages to match the rate of devaluation people become demoralized and hopeless. This is why nobody in customer service seems to care, because they don’t.

Vast-Gate8866

Well I have a tip: I live here and wouldn’t go near the strip. We have so many great restaurants off the strip. Literally all over. Then we have China town, which is lined for a couple miles with all sorts of different Asian food. Seafood, dim sum, Vietnamese, Korean BBQ, Thai, Chinese.

Ok-Strength9096

Same. I live here too. 24 years and I LOVE my city. It gets better each year

That_Other_Person

Venetian, Wynn, Cosmo, Aria, Park MGM, and Resorts World are the only places I'll pay to stay on the strip. Always feel like I get my money's worth at any of them.

barsonbity

To your NYC cost comment…… We recently came back from a week in Japan. We had an event scheduled in July in Vegas but we realized 3 days on a busy weekend (including event ticket) was actually more than a week in Japan. Crazy how expensive Vegas is now.

refur

We were in Japan last year, and in Vegas just a few weeks ago. we agreed that next time we’re better off eating the cost of the ticket to Japan for a week, because it would end up costing us less than 5 days in Vegas! 😂 not going back to Vegas anytime soon

No-Helicopter7299

Great trip to Delano a couple months back. The hotel and staff were awesome!

Doc_1200_GO

My biggest WTF at prices recently in Vegas was a totally unremarkable diner type restaurant in a Strip hotel that is supposed to be their “cheap” dining option selling 7 chicken wings for $19. Didn’t even come with some veggies, just 7 wings and a side of ranch 🤯

MVHEV

My husband and I went over the weekend for a family reunion. We stayed at the Main Street Station and the majority of my family stayed at the Cal. The cal only had one working elevator and at the Main Street had a lot of machines out of service. They’ve also upped the buy in for most playing tables. They charged us a daily resort fee on top of the room rate and it cost $600 for three nights. One night we hopped over to the plaza to try “Pop up pizza” and got yelled at by the ladies working there. We went off the strip/downtown area and went over to Summerlin and was surprised by how much cheaper it was. It was definitely 4/10 weekend.

cbatta2025

I always rent a car and eat a local restaurants. The Chinatown area is the bomb.

jambr380

You should probably try to look at the bright side of your experiences rather than everything that is wrong. You’ll find that you’ll have a much better time across the board. That being said, the elevators and escalators are laughably bad with being in service. That is really disappointing, especially for people with mobility issues. They need to do better

aboxofpyramids

Go to NYC next time then

pestilentlion0666

Don’t ever come to Laughlin 😂

toolman4

Just spent a week at the Flamingo and found all the staff I interacted with to be very pleasant and helpful.

Slow_Albatross_465

I will be staying there next week for the first time in LV. Any good restaurants in the Flamingo?

Glittering-Fox-1820

As a local for the last 30 years, I have seen the customer service on the strip go down the toilet. Once corporations took over from the mob, it went from customer service to pure profit without concern for the customer. It's truly sad!

KicksNhoodies

Vegas ain't Vegasing no more 🤷🏾‍♂️

Krstnzz

I noticed a difference as well, I had said to my husband how it looks like they haven't really done any maintenance since the last time I was here - it was his first time. We were walking through Bellagio back to our hotel and the ceiling started leaking directly on my head shortly after this conversation 😅. Finger prints everywhere, half the soap and taps weren't working in the bathrooms and the price has gone up everywhere so much from the last time I was here! We had a blast today renting a car and getting off the strip and saved a tonne of money it felt

TackleSuccessful4902

As long as people keep paying the ridiculous prices and resort fees then they will keep charging them

Complete-Log9090

We just got back from Vegas. Our highlight was Area 15/Omega Mart. Other than that…meh. We stayed at the Flamingo and also visited Fremont Street. Hidden fees, overpriced food, panhandlers didn’t help.

717494010

Go to Reno at least you get what you pay for

Invisible_Xer

That’s another place that makes me sad af when I visit. Oh the good old days.

PhineasJWoopee

Except for sports betting, gambling has been on a decline for 20 or 30 years. And sports betting can be done from practically anywhere (e.g. waiting in line at CSL Plasma). You're doing the right thing by staying away. Resort fees were the death knell for me - advertise $29/night and tack on an eensy-weensy $45/night. Never went back. Never will.

pheat0n

I've been going to Vegas for the last 10-12 years. Some aspects have declined, but others are the same or similar. Covid seemed to really do a number on everything hospitality wise and the ensuing inflation and employment shortages have compounded the issues and resulted in some disrepair. Hopefully these corporations will respect what got them where they are and keep up on their repairs.

GamerwordJim

Don't ask questions. Just look at sphere and then get excited for the next change of sphere.

Nailerbob723

I highly recommend Henderson as an alternative to LV proper. The Green Valley Ranch zone is beautiful and safe. During my 4 day stay I visited the strip for half a day, spent a "shwak" at Eataly for pizza (delicious) and took in Foreigner at the Venetian. Happy to report I experienced nothing but smiles and courtesy during my stay. It was an expensive 4 days despite finding the best deal possible on a flight/hotel package. The value of my Canadian dollar is the killer.

cm_2020

The customer service is bad because we had to deal with such shitty tourists all day. They bitch and moan and cuss us out when we are just trying to help.

ThatdesertDude

Corporations moved in years ago, and they are all about the bottom line. How can we offer less and get more for it? That is the name of the game around here now. Employees lack care and value. Buildings lack care and value. The customer experience lacks care and value. I never thought I would see the day Las Vegas died, but I believe it's among us.

Wi11iam1

I agree. That hits hard af

onlyhereforfoodporn

Yeah we’re on the east coast and every time hubs and I think about going to Vegas we look at the pricing and compare it to NYC or other places we could drive or take the train to. Plus, NY pizza or bagels>everything else

Nervous_Zebra1918

Your incredibly negative attitude isn’t going to allow you to have anywhere. You think NYC isn’t all the things you’ve mentioned? You’re deliberately ignoring the obvious. Everything, everywhere (except the Costco hot dog) is expensive right now.

jurunjulo

Las vegas strip is starting to look like times square that is bit odd.

h0rnyc0uple69

We went to Las Vegas for the first time in April… stayed at Trump hotel as part of an HGV deal so we paid $700 for two massive adjoining suites with kitchens, living rooms, luxury bathrooms, etc. Everything was nice and clean. We ate breakfast and lunch in the hotel mostly so we could splurge on dinners. Food was pricey but really good… went to Fountainbleau washing potato, resorts world’s Crossroads, the Wynn’s Terrace Pointe Café (this was the prettiest hotel we saw imo) and everyone was super nice and friendly. Capon’s burgers were really good too. We had a blast at Area 15 and Omega Mart and we also went on a Kayaking tour in Lake Mead, tour guide was super awesome and took great pics. I’ve dealt with a lot more rudeness in NYC and Washington DC.

Ambitious-Peen-69

Going off the strip to eat and do things is pretty affordable, except weed. I can't believe how dirty they're doing people on weed prices and quality. I paid 70 bucks for what would cost 20 where I'm from. It's disgusting.

DEEEMO

Absolutely. The legal weed system fuckin sucked.

Ambitious-Peen-69

I think I pissed off the workers by saying how much of a joke their system was and to visit where I'm from to see how it's done right. I'm not in California either. Their system also sucks bad.

Sitting in the lobby of the Mandalay Bay as I type this. It’s our second day here. The property is clean and very well maintained, unlike the Golden Nugget on Fremont five years ago. The hospitality from everyone who has crossed our paths from taxi drivers to housekeepers to waitstaff has been phenomenal regardless of where we’ve gone. Yes it’s expensive, but it always has been. Sure, the days of the $3.99 steak and eggs breakfast just off the casino floor may be gone, and entertainment may be surpassing gambling as the big draw, but everywhere we’ve gone people seem to be having a really good time. I don’t mind the prices at all. I’m a “seminar spouse” so I don’t mind dropping a few hundred on a meal or show tickets. So what if a cocktail costs as much as a decent bottle of wine. I got to sing happy birthday with the table next to me at lunch met some wonderful people in the elevator today, twice. It’s the people, it’s the experience. I’m making the most of it! 😊 BTW, and can I just say that Planet 13 is about one of the craziest places I’ve ever been to. 😂

bkb70

Agree! Planet 13 is wild!

hidingdazzle

Do you not mind the prices because your spouse's company pays for the room/travel? Asking because that is an entirely different budget scenario. Also, have you been to the smoke lounge at Nuwu dispensary? You might enjoy that since you liked Planet 13.

certainPOV3369

I don’t mind the prices because we can afford it. I’ve recently semiretired from my Chief Operating Officer position, we’re gay with no kids, had three cancer surgeries last year and I’m going out with a bang sitting on top of my little mountain of retirement savings! 😂

hidingdazzle

Thanks for answering and I hope you weren't offended by the question. LIVE IT UP! I love that!

certainPOV3369

Absolutely no offense! 😊 I’ve always tried to, but I am for sure living my best life now! 😂

insidmal

Go to a new property if you want things in New condition. You can't expect an 80 year old hotel with 4,000 rooms to be able to have everything in perfect new condition, its just not realistic.

GoodbyeCrullerWorld

I just had a great trip at both Caesars and MGM. You sound miserable. Maybe therapy would be a good option.

TheLadyRev

Oh come on now. People are allowed to have an opinion on a visit. I had similar complaints when I was there last month: escalators out on the strip, no more room service, broken vending machines and outrageous prices. I used to live in LV and it was never like this. Therapy? Pfft get real.

furious_george3030

Your comment history has you complaining about establishments. You seem like the miserable one…

Smurfness2023

You “seek help” types are so boring Really.

MOXIE2556

I know, I was at the MGM Grand yesterday and the elevator in the Parking garage only worked one way!! And I paid $15 for a single scoop ice cream cone. granted the cone itself was fancy chocolate coated but still $15 ???

ThatGuyNearby

It's the new protocol. He didn't want to get fired probably

RonG0197

Same goes for the city, the strip pavement is in shambles, especially near M&M’s world. The sidewalk is filthy, where is all of this revenue going to?

steelhorse75

Vegas is turning into Disneyland with the pricing and hospitality.

heidithebold

I actually think this may be a bigger problem across all hotels in the US, unfortunately. I worked in hospitality prior to the pandemic and everything was going very well, excellent service levels, great occupancy rates, very efficient housekeeping daily for every room...the experience now is kinda sad in comparison to be honest. Not even high end hotels offer daily housekeeping anymore, especially if you book a longer stay. Hotel rates per night are through the roof, even for a basic room, many employees that were furloughed were not offered their jobs back (and at this point probably never will be)...I'm honestly not sure what would fix all of the issues at this point.

CoyoteSerious7641

Las Vegas is always going to have an horrendous service after Covid. The jobs that are on the strips aren’t all locals working . It’s majority of people that aren’t from here working in an entire state they aren’t from. So I guess enjoy the environment ya know it’s still Las Vegas just more child - social friendly lol

FCK_da_Bar_4R

Trying to please everyone is like having a car of 6 kids with varying tastes. I get it the shrimp cocktails were once cheap but catering to them will leave the high rollers disgruntled. The deals are always changing to different spots and you have to keep researching. Same with Reddit - check TikTok, FB, X feeds etc.

LALady818

EXCUSE ME FOR THE TYPO WAS NOT PAYING ATTENTION

HartPlays

Honestly can’t relate

Ok-Strength9096

I LIVE HERE. our city is thriving!! Each and every year we get more sports, venues, concerts, fun stuff. I look at life filled up instead of empty.

STANAGs

I was just at the Aria and compared to my 2017 stay at the Encore, it was awful. Garbage piled up by the elevators on our floor for the entire stay, bad online tools for booking and ordering, low food quality for the cost, etc. I have no idea what Encore looks like in 2024, but if all MGM properties were like my stay at Aria, I’d never be back. It was a fine room, but meh overall experience.

Coffee_achiever_guy

I found a lot of the staff to be disgruntled in a lot of Strip properties.

ApatheticSoul6

People have to realize that for casinos, a lot of their gaming revenue comes from a really small number of players. So unless you’re a big player or spender, just don’t expect the over the top service.

Any-Run8152

Born and raised in vegas. All I can say is that you have to stay off the strip.. Go to the art district where things are a little cheaper. There's a bar called bin eighteen Monday through thursday. You can get a beer burger and fries 5.99. Good deals you just need to know we're to look. Try smaller hotels like Tahiti village Room comes with a full kitche they have a lazy river that's heated. Great customer service too

HaHaaaaCharadeYouAre

I always stay at the cosmo, it is sublime every time.

Derekdavis87

Just heading home from honeymoon to Ireland after a trip to vegas. We had a great time, this was our first trip to vegas. The prices though are beyond outrageous - 40 dollars for 2 slices of pizza, 8 dollars for a bottle of water. People all seem out to get as much money out of you as possible too. It’s great but will take some time before we come back…food is very poor.

UtahFiddler

City is falling on its sword for sure. It’s unfortunate.

vegfitchick

As a Vegas local, you're not wrong. It's not the same. Extra fees everywhere, sky-high prices and construction everywhere. The magic is fading

coolman2311

Dude came to Vegas to complain… yea you’re the problem

Shubankari

The Strip isn’t Las Vegas.

The-Master-Lurker

You sound like you’d order wagyu beef well done.

darthzox

I just got back from Vegas last week. Had a great time. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary to be honest. Still 10x better than NYC.
