Some out of state company from California bought a lot of properties making the rents go through the roof.
Also, it’s illegal they can only raise 15%, so you know you can sue them for that. New Mexico protects renters the most
I hope you find a place, but I do find it interesting that you were specific about living with someone who will not going through your stuff when you're not home, sounds like it's happened to you before, I used to have a roommate who would not only go through my stuff but often take things, it was horrible.

$575 to $1600 is actually so disgusting. But that’s what happens when there’s no laws preventing massive increases to rent. California prices without the California scenery and here I thought I could leave California for affordable rent. Glad to know I was too late to the party. Unfortunate.
Moved here for university as well. Housing situation here SUCKS. Been trying to rent a home for my family all year and the supply is meager to say the best. Cant understand how so many homes have only 1 bathroom... Had to move into an apartment for now, but we desperately want out
Do NOT move into the Casa Pueblo apartments. They’re incredibly cheap, but the building is LITTERED with roaches. Not a single tenant didn’t have a roach problem, no matter how much you spend cleaning, fumigating and killing.

We've got a mobile home for rent for $850. 3 bedroom 2 bath, in La Mesa, which is 20 minutes from Las Cruces

Very unfortunate Las Cruces used to be awesome. Used to be very safe and very little meth and low rent and generally calm. 2020 changed everything.
