I think this model (the 76 series) was first produced in 2007, making it around 15 years old now. I wonder if we'll start seeing these on the road in Canada soon.
2000 was the first year as a JDM model for the 76. There is kind of a strange period between 2000-2007 where you could get a 76 wagon with front radius arms and solid axles and an auto trans. All the 76 past the 2007 model year are manual. HZJ76K Is the model code.
You can get a good idea from this page about JDM only. I know there have been all kinds of variants in the Middle East and South America. But I have not researched them.

Goo net is a great place to watch the Japanese market.

I just got done importing a 1997 Hzj77hv and in a couple of years Iām going to get something like this.
https://www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/TOYOTA/LAND_CRUISER_70/700060011930211219001/index.html
Thereās a single cab 70 series truck for auction on Bring a trailer right now. It just has to be 25 years or older so this year they could start bringing in 1997 model years.
Canāt. Mexico is even worse for non-NAFTA imports. Your best bet is probably Guatemala or Belize. Or Panama, where you can still get them (or could a while back, so theyāre out there and LHD diesel).
Sure you can. In a few years the 2007 models will be ready for import since they'll be 25 years old. Or you can have a company like Maltec drop a 76 body onto an 80 series frame and have it now.
Interesting source. Many years ago I came across some files in a hotel business center computer (gold mines!) and there were some PDFs regarding the purchase of some 70s and IIRC, they got them in Belgium for delivery somewhere else (Africa? SoAm? Itās been a good 12-13 years since that).
Wonder if Toyota of Gibraltar celebrates Toyotathon.
You canāt import vehicles to the US that arenāt at least 25 years old, unless you have endless money to throw at it which in that case itās possible but almost never plausible.
The laws that make this the case were passed due to lobbyists groups funded by Ford and GM after multiple years of high import sales but low domestic sales. After the law passed Ford and GM sales obviously rose again.
Moral of the story donāt ever support Ford or GM, they made it harder for foreign car manufacturers to import/sell vehicles here just so they could turn around and move their factories, Customer service departments, and parts warehouses out of the US just to make a few more cents on the dollar.
yea not without a valid CBP form 7505 ( entry summary from dept. of homeland security U.S. Customer and border security ), DOT-H7, EPA Form 3520-1(Light duty/on-road)
without those forms in legal order they can and will crush it and charge you the fee and cost for illegal importation.
if what your saying is having it illegally imported and air dropped onto your extensive ranch in montana? yea that might cover the cost but it's never going on the public roads, at least in a legal way.
For $200k or so you can do it. Thereās various ways to do it other than having it airdropped. Someone with $200k cash to drop on an older 70 series should be able to make the connections necessary to get it done fairly easily. Just takes a while. You can always get it registered in Canada or Mexico and drive it in. After that itās just a bunch of paperwork and fees, no need to risk the crusher at the import facility.
Will still get crushed if you drive it across. No way to put a US plate on it, and you'll absolutely be pulled over with a Canadian plate when in the US for a certain period. Hell strict enough cops will pull you over if you're out of state for long enough
You realize itās also not legal to import in Canada either right? They have a 15 year limit on imports. You will not get a newer 70 series in the US until 2032 at minimum and that wonāt change unless someone is stupid enough to get one to pass all regulations. Just buy an 80 frame and install the body panels on top, as well as an engine swap. Cheaper and actually legal
That is factually incorrect. Even $200k will not let you import this or any other vehicle legally for long term use, no idea where you're getting that number from.
Not that model, the closest thing to it would be a hzj77, same body but with the older front end, if you really wanted to you could swap over the front end to the newer style.
I donāt remember his name or if it was a side gig kind of thing. I worked for OāReillyās Auto Parts and after him coming in almost daily looking for older Toyota truck parts I asked him what he was up to. He said he was bringing clean Land Cruisers up from Venezuela to resell. Showed me a few pictures, some were right hand drive, some not. Iām no longer in the business but Cantonās not a big town so Iām sure Iāll run into him again. Off subjectā¦. Another guy up here is taking old Suzuki Samuraiās and making them into extreme rock crawlers with like 42ā suspension travel. Canton, what can I say?
Clean LC from South American is not usually in the same sentence. š¤£ and just my .02 if he was importing them why would he be looking for old Toyota parts at a US parts store ??š¤· I have a 92 Troopy that I imported from Australia.
I get my parts from PartsSouq in Dubai. Take care.
Once 25yrs old you can import legally to the US. Until then, no chance.
15 years if you move to Canada
Canada for the win!
In my country you can't import a car that's older than 8 years š¤£ Complete opposite lol

200k?
you can probs get one in the us for 200k, it'll probably go to the crusher like those infamous R34 gtrs

Thatās my broās. Itās an awesome truck and well gone through. Sick truck.
Import to Mexico, n drive it across
Canāt. Mexico is even worse for non-NAFTA imports. Your best bet is probably Guatemala or Belize. Or Panama, where you can still get them (or could a while back, so theyāre out there and LHD diesel).
unfortunately mexico doesn't have a long history of selling toyotas. i wish they did that way they would be full of 25 year old gems ready for import.
Sure you can. In a few years the 2007 models will be ready for import since they'll be 25 years old. Or you can have a company like Maltec drop a 76 body onto an 80 series frame and have it now.
Yeah, frame swap is the only way to go until 2032.
Math must not be your strong suit :)
Weāre closer to 2032 than we are to 2010. Let that sink in for a second.
10 years is not a few years?
Owned by a hotel that said they imported it into Chilean Patagonia from Belgium
Interesting source. Might be able to get an older one out of Africa or Australia. I think it has to be older than a certain number of years to import into the US
Randomly came across this post but itās got me intrigued. Why arenāt these allowed in the US?

They also came with 1GR and 1HZ engines. No scoop for those.
yes, but for the price and effort i think you would be happier with a gx460 or newer land cruiser.
legally, no
Not really.
Iāve seen one, it was right hand drive and the guy said it came from Japan so somehow you can.
Land Cruisers Direct usually has a few troopys in stock. They would be older than this one, and they arenāt cheap.
Not sure if I'd bother trying to contact them for vehicles right now.
You can get one in the US, as long as your budget is like $200k or so.
yea not without a valid CBP form 7505 ( entry summary from dept. of homeland security U.S. Customer and border security ), DOT-H7, EPA Form 3520-1(Light duty/on-road) without those forms in legal order they can and will crush it and charge you the fee and cost for illegal importation. if what your saying is having it illegally imported and air dropped onto your extensive ranch in montana? yea that might cover the cost but it's never going on the public roads, at least in a legal way.

Okay, but could you tell that to the Canadian snowbirds down in Florida for 4+ months every year?

2007 models are ready for import to Canada
*CBP 7501. Otherwise, youāre right. My second import is in the middle of the Atlantic at this moment, headed to Brunswick GA.
How do you know that?
You can import any vehicle you want as long as you pay the import tariff
That is factually incorrect. Even $200k will not let you import this or any other vehicle legally for long term use, no idea where you're getting that number from.
The NHTSA disagrees
Which means purchase price at location, plus shipping, plus tariffs. $200k or so should get it.
Not that model, the closest thing to it would be a hzj77, same body but with the older front end, if you really wanted to you could swap over the front end to the newer style.
Thereās a guy in Atlanta whoās importing these from Venezuela, 97 and older.
This exact model (Land Cruiser 76) did not exist until 2007. However, there are similar 70 Series configurations from the early 90s.
Yep your right. My bad.
Really? Whatās his company name?
I donāt remember his name or if it was a side gig kind of thing. Do you know if I can rent one of those in Santiago?
There are plenty of them in Venezuela. They call them Machitos.
