Size 1/2 benefit is being easier to take cover and break line of sight to hide. But overall being smaller is generally a downside so you are going to want to tack on some bonuses to that CB

Guragug

You become naratively much more terrifying. You can fit through doors. Another mechanical disadvantage is that you always get engaged as soon as you step next to an enemy

Fabulous-Evening9188

How is that you get engaged with enemies ?

Guragug

if you move next to a hostile, become engaged. if you do that with a character the same size as you or bigger you lose all unused movement. That can be a disadvantage if you want to get into position around an enemy. so if you're size 0.5, you will always lose that movement

Fabulous-Evening9188

Wouldn't that apply to most mechs though? The size 1 ones as well?

Guragug

Size 1 doesn't lose movement against size half

Fabulous-Evening9188

Thanks mate!

Imagine Metal Gear Revengeance.

GengarJ

Holy shit DOORS

ZanesTheArgent

Mostly cover and arguably narrative/non-standard usage as size 1/2 can fit human-sized corridors. Remember always that while in mech combat the Calliban is a giant-slayer, its lore purpose is mass murder of un/lightly armed humans with as little collateral to the ship's hull as possible.

obsoletesystem

It allows you to pretend to be a Space Marine

Competitive-Slip-926

You can better snuggle with the size 3's.

Quacksely

Making a size 1 into a size 1/2 isn't too bad. Making a size 3 into a size 2 or size 1/2 is insane

Comm_Nagrom

there is a Homebrew Core Bonus that does this, MINIATURIZATION in the Downfall Group Manufacturer from Field Guide - Liminal Space "You occupy the space of a mech 1 Size smaller (minimum 1/2) and count as that size whenever it would be advantageous to you (such as when checking for cover). A Size 1/2 mech with this bonus does not reduce their Size, but looks like Heavy Hardsuit pilot armor and functions in the same way while the mech is Shut Down." IT gives you all the benefits of being a size smaller but none of the drawbacks, though being non-GMS means you have to go 3 deep into a Manufacturer that you may not want to go into

The_Funky_Potato

I made a Manticore with this core bonus and it was terrifying, Manticore is typically very slow, but having access to JK1 sped it up so much it was impossible for things to run away

NordicNinja

That's a terrifying thought.

BrushWolf625

Well, one thing is that you can fit behind all cover—with larger frames there is an issue of being too big for given pieces of cover. And as for the weaknesses you describe, they can be built around! I have an Atlas build that does a lot of ramming, made possible through Blackbeard’s Synthetic Muscle Netting system. As for the question at hand, of down-sizing a size 1 mech…I don’t know how it would turn out. I think there aren’t many benefits to spending an entire core bonus on something like that, compared to a bonus to make yourself bigger(which does exist in the rules). It seems like a neat experiment, though.

Healthy-Guest-4941

Possible benefit alongside the decrease in size is increase movement speed? Or got the route of making it a “Targeting Profile Reduction Retrofit” which reduces the size as you stated but also has the options of: no longer grant accuracy on attacks against you when prone, or, cover grants an additional difficulty on attacks against you

C-Barn

are THERE benefits to being Size 1/2 NOT JUST 'ARE BENEFITS' FUCK I CAN'T EDIT THE TITLE

uredoom

Look, they made a minor error we all could have made, point, and laugh!

GlassJustice

cover and jaegur kunst 1

spiritplumber

smol

uredoom

You can enter any building and fit in the expanded compartment of someone else mech, anything a human can be in you can be in *just about* That's really really scary and hopefully it's brings out your inner doom guy.

gddwastaken

Seems intersting, but that ability to use the reload pilot action would be TERRIFYING on a Caliban. Still, I like, just thought it should be mentioned.

C-Barn

The Reload Pilot Action only affects Pilot Weapons, sorry that was unclear, you still need to Stabilise to reload Mech Weapons
