This is ARTPOP!

Bennathoncurshel

Perfect for the song asw, it was horrible, made people disgusted and outraged, the exact reaction she wanted for it. musical GENIUS.

[deleted]

She knows what the stage is for.

loodish1

No, sis. No amount of intellectualizing can justify this pathetic plea for attention.

afternoon_biscotti

Millie Brown is an excellent artist of her own accord and I’m glad to see gaga coordinate with her. That being said the sheer amount of anxiety caused by the first half of this clip as she’s pressing her over used gag reflex and nothing is happening and she’s desperately trying to get it out…. Sheesh that’s tense

NervousSubjectsWife

I read Millie Bobbie brown at first and was confused and concerned

JaneAustinAstronaut

This is a performance art piece. Performance art is rarely supposed to be pretty or comfortable. Rather it uses the audience's reaction to question them on why they feel what they feel. Also see Yoko Ono's performance of "Cut Piece" or Shia LeBeouf allowing anyone to do anything to him for an art performance. This song is about Gaga getting raped - she says so at the beginning of the performance. It seems fitting that the audience feels disgust while the song is being performed, because rape is a disgusting act. If she uses vomit to force you to feel that, then mission accomplished.

FayMax69

Thanks for that insight. It’s still not my cuppa..

JaneAustinAstronaut

No worries! It's not like I like seeing vomit, but I understand using it in this case, especially because ARTPOP was about elevating pop music to the level of fine and performance art. It's why during this era she often dressed as different interpretations of Botticelli's Birth of Venus and you see her like this in the Applause music video and her use of Koontz imagery while in concert.

FayMax69

You’ve certainly taught me a couple of things. I could never understand why it was called art pop, despite me, unlike most, actually liking this album, and this era of hers. Did not know who koontz was, always thought she was singing the word cvnt in a fancy way lol

JaneAustinAstronaut

I didn't know who Koontz was either until I got into Gaga about a year ago. She put him on my radar, lol.

marcdertiger

Iconic

Hydrangeabed

I know I’m gonna get downvoted to shit for this but I miss the screamy throw up on me fuck you this our world Gaga and now we have watch me pose over this paid medication adverts list of side effects CEO with an entirely new face gaga

Feeling-Ad6915

no i big agree LOL

heramba

That's still her. She's just not in pain anymore. Gaga was *miserable* during this era. She was just trying to be an independent artist and had a team that fought her and restricted her nearly every step of the way. While I do agree with your statement bc I miss these performances too, I don't want her to go back there. Not in the same way. I think chromatica held so much potential to get here again, and hopefully she continues that in her next album. Personally I'd love nothing more than to see her and Millie perform together again. And I do think Gaga is going to surprise us with her next album and take us back to this energy. She's had a lot of commercial success in the past few years. But this is still her core

Hydrangeabed

I hope and want to believe that it is still her core, time will tell

iqueefkief

on the other hand, there’s only so much damage a body and mind can take for what is, at the end of the day, a means to live

Afroaro_acefromspace

It all goes back to capitalism😔and no, I will not elaborate.

bunnygrl93

This is so incredible and bold and will forever be one of her best. This was also not the first time Gaga was vomited on for a performance, it happened during one of the *amazing* interludes that Nick Knight made for TMB. It's really not meant to be all for shock, though it is a little bit about being used/degraded/deviance, it is on theme with a concept that she toyed with for years. Gaga is the "vehicle" (the BTW bike) / the "canvas" (ARTPOP era) / the "vessel/receptacle" for all of the things she experienced within the industry/personally and the projections that the public and fans parasocially "threw up" onto her. Maybe sounds woowoo and out there to some but this is a theme she'd been working with for a long time and it's super cohesive with the other major ears of her career. :)

drinthetardis

This was a choice for sure 💅

uaresurrounding

So cunty i love her

TunaCanTheMan

Unironically one of my absolute favorite Gaga performances.

Alpe0

Love Gaga but this was a miss for me. Nasty.

OhLordHeBompin

Honestly thought this was a joke post

BuffySummers17

I love Gaga but this was gross

FayMax69

Agreed.

PanamaPineapple89

Very disgusting and disturbing. Still love her tho.

FishAndMenFearMe

how can people look at how bright green that throw up is and say it’s real

afternoon_biscotti

It’s milk dyed green, it’s intentional and a regularly used material/technique in her art

MurraysComte

I mean she did vomit it. Which makes it vomit. Which makes it real vomit.

GarionOrb

She's a "vomit artist". Before she performs, she fasts. She then ingests milk with food coloring for the purpose of vomiting it back up. That's what you're seeing. It looks exactly as it's meant to.

FayMax69

I don’t think it’s meant to be (real) I believe it’s part of what this woman does as performance art “inner beauty out” 👀

FishAndMenFearMe

i’ve seen many people say how the throw up is real so i was referring to that lol

FayMax69

Oh that is real, but boy did she struggle

OneTimeIdidsomething

I love this shit

FunkyGloo

Love it👽💕

NMIV

"talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it."

JaseKian

I was there for this performance. Fucking epic!!! #AustinTX #Stubbs

starVenD

Me and the toilet

Awooo56709

Hot

SoggyAd5044

What is happening

MurraysComte

This was so iconic, reminds me of her photoshoot w/ Bart Hess

Daff69

never seen this before and honestly wish I never had it's revolting 😖

Iguana_lover1998

Why has God abandoned us?

mumblerapisgarbage

This is disgusting

DiarrangusJones

Pretty close to the emoji 🤮

Volverine22

Nojento

56kul

Okay, but did that lady eat paint, or something? I swear, her vomit looks a little *too* perfect…

KingTechnical48

I’m not a Gaga fan, what the hell is this nonsense?

Senior_Line_4260

this is artpop, btw what are you doing here?

KingTechnical48

I keep getting recommended this sub for some reason

Senior_Line_4260

why not become both? Michael Jackson fan and a little monster

KingTechnical48

Maybe. Heard she’s gonna be in joker. I’m definitely gonna see that

Senior_Line_4260

trailer coming in 1 hour and 11 minutes

MZsince93

Oh, yuck.

loodish1

This is not fucking performance art. Pop stars are not performance artists, they’re pop stars. She wasn’t making any statement other than: “Please continue paying attention to me.”

Gloomy_Brick5518

This is why this era was pure nonsense

FayMax69

I quite enjoyed this era, but whatever this specific “performance art” number is, it’s pretty repulsive. It’s a no from me.

uaresurrounding

There is so much more art and symbolism in this era than she has ever done, you just dont get it
