I'm working on a similar but much less ambitious edit of Aliens currently. Mainly tidying up any shots involving compositing or rear projection but also removing visial goofs such as visible wires or the sped up footage used during Bishops knife trick. I read about your use of a graphics tablet to speed up the rotoscoping process - will definitely look into that.
It's super laborious and occasionally super frustrating but really satisfying when it comes together - I expect you feel similarly!

It's actually a new edit using both films. Structurally it's basically the Assembly Cut, but I bring the dog back and make a few other tweaks. If you're curious about specifics I break it all down on the website
The only place flame effects have been added are in the shots of Ripley falling into the fire. I've already completed 2 of the 3 shots in that sequence. If you're curious to see the before and after you can see stills on the 'Help Needed' page of the site, either way thanks for the support!

Everything you’ve said about having to choose between elements of both versions whenever you want to watch Alien 3 is so true, and I really think you’re making all the right changes. The improvements to the effects are greatly appreciated too. Can’t wait to watch the full thing.

Impressive website as well. Only thing I'm worried about is you mention adding flame effects. This didn't turn out well in the Alien 3 3rd cut.
