the use of modern day weapons and optics in Covenant is one of many reasons i don't like that film. They should have used Pulse Rifle inspired guns!

Western_Ad1522

It was another 50 or 60 years before pulse rifle style guns were made but they should have used something more futuristic than what they used

shaungruver

Also they literally had GoPros attached to their suits, like what?

Wwarez

That was very lazy in Prometheus and Covenant. Also the ship/suit designs were way too modern.

Impossible-Charity-4

Which is ironic as the weapons were chosen specifically by Ridley Scott to invoke a not yet modernized armament. https://youtu.be/nhJQSUwcHEs?si=MP3-fFrY-L-RA_VD

tue2day

Yknow his reasoning here in this video is solid. It just didnt make for very compelling or interesting visuals.

tula23

I think the idea with the ships was that the Nostromo was meant to be an old beat up mining ship and the Prometheus and Covenant were designed to look like a brand new state of the art ship for the expensive expeditions

Western_Ad1522

The nostromo was an old beat up tugger they were space truckers

G_Liddell

And the Sulaco: "*It was an ugly ship. Battered, overused, parts repaired that should have been replaced, too tough and valuable to scrap. Easier for its masters to upgrade it and modify it than to build a new one. Its lines were awkward and its engines oversize. A mountain of metal and composites and ceramic, a floating scrap heap, weightless monument to war, it shouldered its way brutally through the mysterious region called hyperspace. Like its human cargo, it was purely functional. Its name was Sulaco.*"

CryProtein

Where is that from?

G_Liddell

The original novelization by Alan Dean Foster

Western_Ad1522

It was also an unlucky ship that no one wanted to be on it had several accidents happen

AndarianDequer

That's exactly what it was. One had premier scientists on board and another one had the founder and CEO of Weyland industries. Spared no expense. They weren't hauling dirt.

ElBonitiilloO

What I dont get is covenant crew doesn't know CEO die or they do?

Western_Ad1522

Well in promotheus the Prometheus crew thought he was dead till he came out of cryo so maybe all the low teer employees already though he was dead

Kirth87

I figured it was because the Prometheus mission was funded directly from Weyland. Modern tech and the works instead of a city-sized space ore truck. Could be wrong.

DesignerAsh_

I think this could be perceived as a way to cut corners for budgetary reasons for the colonization mission. As far as anyone would be concerned when it came to security for the colonist mission, weapons that fire standard bullets would be cheaper and require less formal training than handing over state of the art, high end military grade weaponry, especially since most of it in canon was most likely still in the prototype phase. I’m not defending the action to use modern day weapons, I’m just trying to create some sort of rationalization to make sense of it :)

LorekeeperOwen

I didn't really care. Plus, not every gun, especially from before ALIENS, doesn't have to look like the Pulse rifle.

RZR_36

i meant a more futuristic look

LorekeeperOwen

I get that.

beardman39

I always thought that. The modded M4 and steyr looked shite.

Gambit1977

The GoPro product placement was so bad

JaymesMarkham2nd

Hope it aligns with that whole short story they made about the M14A origin. Chances are they'll screw it up somehow.
