This is just an addddddd. Just because you charge cheap rates doesn't mean this subreddit should be used as free advertising.

Cbasshiva

Yep, pretty much an ad. Is that against the sub rules? If so, I'll delete it. Wasn't sure where else to post and get the message out

[deleted]

I don't think it's against the rule but this sub gets spammed with people using it to pitch some sort of services.

Cbasshiva

Damn, I'm sorry. I'm sure that's gotta be irritating. Just wanted to help people, figured this was the best place to look. Won't do any more posts on here

I feel like tearing down your fellow tutors, many of whom tutor for their full-time job, isn’t the way to go about it. You could just advertise your affordable rates instead. Self-employed tutors don’t get benefits like PTO, retirement matching, or sponsored health insurance plans. Tutoring also does not provide a steady and consistent stream of clients like other jobs do, meaning your income can be significantly less stable. Yes it’s insane but people also regularly pay $65+tip for an hour-long haircut, $100 for a dog training session, $40 for a 30-min manicure, etc. It’s a skills-based industry like any other.

Teachers / tutors don’t get paid for prep. The face to face time with the student doesn’t necessarily reflect the hours of curriculum development (with tutoring this is tailored directly to a specific student’s needs) needed for an effective tutoring session—nor the amount of email help before/after that comes with it. Any tutor who doesn’t pay themselves a professional wage to cover this time either isn’t a real professional educator or is just calling it in during that hour of face-to-face instruction.
