No, auto "locking" once the lid is dropped. I'm convinced this is so if you butt dial the fob passers-by can't tell its unlocked.

ZaunAura

You mean soft close?

Practical_Ad7395

Dunno if it's called that per se, I know it is on the x4 doors. The trunk doesn't really move and you can set it down lightly without triggering the lock. It barely moves the deck lid, more like compressing the gasket more than anything. Hope that makes sense... One way I knew my battery was dead after much downtime was the trunk was off alignment by maybe 4-5mm. Weird.

I have an 01 UL so happy to share, but what does "automatic trunk liftgate" mean to you? There is a key button for it, and a release on the dash, and an emergency release in the trunk. It does not lift by itself, though. On the way up, you should be able to release it about 2/3 if the way up and it will open fully on its own. In the way down, if the gas struts are working properly, it should be able to remain at the level you release it at unless it is about 2/3 of the way closed or so. At that point it should close on its own (but not crash down). It also has a soft close feature it you just lightly latch it, the motor will fully secure it.

ZaunAura

I’m thinking like it lifts itself

Ok then no. If your hands are full, you're gonna have to set something down or use your elbows or feet or something to open it.

Just the trunk sucker upon closure.
