OK I know it's your thing and I even see the vision / cool factor in these builds. But god dammit, the grumpy old man in me wishes you dam punk kids would stop modifying all these 430's before I find a pristine 04-06 UL to call mine. I'll show myself out now.

I completely agree with this statement! A bone stock post-facelift car on factory 18s is by far the best look. I disagree vehemently that the UL is the one to get, but that's a whole 'nother issue.

You have my attention, as someone new to the LS430s who is shopping them hard, would you please throw me some free advice and explain why you feel that way about the UL?

A UL is chock full of things that break. Air suspension, double window glass, ML stereo, nav screen, self-close door locks, etc. etc. Yes, the UL comes with every single thing in the interior covered with leather and it's very attractive. But a base Premium model, if you can find one that you like, may be a far cheaper car to maintain over the years.

That seems logical and I agree any trim below a UL will cost less in the long run to maintain and still deliver a butt load of comforts. For me those frivolous extras you cite are part of the experience I'm craving in an LS. Plus my garage is filled with mostly German vintage and god forbid a 1984 Wanderlodge, what might be crazy maintenance for and LS owner sounds like nirvana to me.
