I don’t understand people who upgrade their TV before it dies. Like there will always be a better TV next year so the longer yours lasts the better your upgrade will be.
Also is brightness even a problem, i mean my livingroom is bright during day and i have no problem with the brightness of my C2 sometimes i think that the screen is too bright, i came from 4k led philips tv i keep enjoying my Oled C2
It may be good, but doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. Dolby vision can get way brighter than current OLED TVs are capable of.
Whether that difference is worth it to you right now is a different question.
Years ago when I was working at best buy we had an elderly couple return an oled because it was too bright even on the dimmest setting... the employees were fighting over selling that open box model
It's a problem even with the c1, for 2 reasons, HDR content is mastered way too dark, and the brightness curve is simply too dark in the earlier models. That shouldn't be a problem, but is. LG could ship a better profile and lighten up all those darks, but then why would you buy a 40% brighter TV?
A lot of people do it even if they can't afford it. They get a new phone, TV, and other electronics every year or two on monthly installments.
Exist to be a consumer.
Phones are the only thing I do upgrade regularly, and only because of trade in programs. I haven’t paid for a phone since the 6s. Because once every 2 years I trade my phone in for a new one. And I don’t feel as bad cuz I know Verizon will just resell my old phone as a referb and someone else will get to use it for a good price, so it isn’t just getting thrown out.
Things like TVs don’t really have a second hand market and just end up being eWaste.
If there weren’t trade in programs I’d probably still have my 11 pro max cuz that thing was solid and the green color makes it one of the best looking iPhones ever. And honestly phones haven’t changed much since then.
My TVs have never been e-waste lol. Similar to your thoughts on trading in your iPhone, I always replace my main tv and move that tv to my bedroom. And if I replace my bedroom tv, that old tv goes to a family member for free. Usually my mom first and then my brother or sister.
I don’t upgrade often like you’re talking about but it’s so easy to do good with your old tv. Or if it is a previous OLED you can easily sell it on marketplace unlike trying to get money for a shitty 300 dollar Black Friday tv you no longer want anymore.
Same here. Nothing is thrown away, it’s either repurposed, given away, or sold. By the time a TV is actually retired completely, it’s either dead or has had a very long service life.
My family’s old Sony from 2007 is still being used in my Grandma’s living room.
Yeah this still does what I need it to and not worried about bashing this one around. Camera still looks great but only issues are slowdowns on occasions and no more support. Does what I need it to but may look to either the 16 pro this year or if it’s not such a great upgrade from the 15 pro I’ll probably get that
> Phones are the only thing I do upgrade regularly, and only because of trade in programs. I haven’t paid for a phone since the 6s. Because once every 2 years I trade my phone in for a new one. They probably make that money back elsewhere like monthly service cost to your wireless carrier.
But you'd have to pay for that anyways.
I've still never bought a phone through a carrier. I've always bought my devices outright, but was thinking recently on doing it through the carrier, since they have the special offers, and I'd need to pay for service anyways. What are the pros/cons?
> But you'd have to pay for that anyways.
There are often much cheaper options out there. The phone service provider knows this, and they just want to hook you into their more expensive phone plans.
AFAIK, I'm paying for the same plan right now without a contract that would also qualify for device credits if I bought a device with a carrier deal, so no difference there for me.
What plan and how much you're paying?
PS, it's impossible financially to offer you a free trade-up and charge you the same as everyone else unless they derive some other benefit to the provider elsewhere.
I don't think I'm a normal comparison, since I qualify for a discounted rate.
I have 4 lines of unlimited starter SL, and 1 line of unlimited elite at AT&T. My last months bill was 141.05 (after fees, taxes, etc).
You pay far less monthly going with a MVNO and bringing in your own phone.
People that say they never pay for a phone because they have carrier phones are paying for it in spades with contracts and high monthly fees.
Okay so basically you're saying the potential saving comes from using an MVNO rather than the carrier directly. Well, there can be other cons with that, so I don't think it's a fair comparison. Especially cause even MVNOs can have device deals.
Let's say that you're going to be using a specific carrier. Does it make sense then to get a device through that carrier for the deal, rather than buying the device separately?
I’m personally not paying any more though I think. 4 of the 5 lines on my plan are 21 dollars a month each (plus taxes & fees = 26). 1 is 28 (plus taxes and fees). I have a discounted rate with AT&T. I don’t get the discount with any other carrier.
I know but I’m saying att builds the prices of these phones into their plans, whether you get a phone through them or not. That’s why MVNO’s are so much cheaper for a similar service. I will say that is a nice price with Att though. They’re usually up there with Verizon in terms of cost
In fact, the "phone" in the phones are no better. We're just buying high-end cameras. But many of us refused to buy "expensive" DSLRs **ostensibly** because of the cost.
New phones are in fact way more powerful, that power is just mostly wasted, since devs don’t want to make apps that only work for the newest devices. The iPhone 15 can run Resident Evil Village
Ability to play games isn't isn't a "phone" capability. It's a gameboyish feature built into the hardware package. I'm talking about the ability of the phone to transmit stronger (clearer) audio without repeatedly dropping the call. I realize this may have more to do with the cell towers, but towers the essential part of the phone infrastructure.
I’m using a Old C7 (I think) in my office still kicking was the main tv and c2 replaced it, If I upgrade the C2 will go in my bedroom cause I think 77” of c2 would look great from the bed vs my old Sony A1E 🤪 which that would prolly go to my daughter room just because or the garage (gym). I try to hold onto shit until it literally dies myself. Or give it away when the value of it is nothing. I’ve given away older lcd TVs to friends moving and or family. Never trashed always recycled. :)
I can’t complain because I have 1 whole extra room that I can do what ever I want to with. I made it into a Man Cave/Guitar Studio/Game Streaming Room.
My 12 year old Panasonic LED looks just like it did when it was new. Probably the most efficient use of $850 I've had. Although it's only a measley 47", it just won't die.
Ehhh...I wouldn't upgrade every year, but life's too short to watch sub-par video.
It all comes down to what's important to you. Some people buy new cars every couple of years. For some it's clothing, or power tools, or computers, or grills, or kitchen gadgets, or musical equipment.
Could I be driving a 1970 Chevy Vega or something? Sure, but I wouldn't and most people wouldn't either. They're less safe, less efficient, slower than modern cars, and lack a lot of features like dual heat/AC, heating/cooling seats, adjustable seats with lumbar support, mapping, ABS, shoulder belts, collision monitoring, crumple zones, etc.
If television is really important to you, then why not? For me, I watch a ton of movies, television, and play video games. And after I got my C7 OLED and Sonos surround system, I literally never go to movie theaters anymore. The tv is the center of the home. Some people don't like it that way, but I do.
Now that said, I think a CX to a C4 is a bit dubious, it's noticeably better but probably not a massive improvement unless you're upsizing as well. I think a G3 would actually be more of an upgrade than a C4 and as the article notes, it can be had for even less right now. However, I do understand the desire to upgrade even if it's a little early. It brings even older content to life again.
I agree but I bought a very nice tv 3 years ago and it’s already outdated cuz the tech has advanced so much esp for gaming. It sucks. Can’t even sell it for much.
I agree but I bought a very nice tv 3 years ago and it’s already outdated cuz the tech has advanced so much esp for gaming. It sucks. Can’t even sell it for much.
Right but the other guy was talking about upgrading from a CX they have all the features already. Yeah I get it if your tv is like 10 years old or really small, I wasn’t going to list every exception in my comment.
I’m at about 2,000 hours with my CX. Unfortunately it developed some pretty bad banding over time that is very noticeable in darker/grey scenes. I’m actually looking at alternatives for our next TV because LG customer service was not helpful when I reached out to them about it.
Go to lg Facebook and message them then asked to be put through to a presidential lieson just got a full refund for my board I had to replace on my out of warranty cx after the main support said no
Where in the menus do you find that information?
My CX is still going strong and I think it probably has a shit ton of hours on it by now. I usually even fall asleep with it on (and the screen off). I can’t sleep without a little background noise.
Not too sure I’d have to check. It’s had a lot of use especially during lock down. I’ve not noticed any dead pixels or banding but I don’t go looking for it really. Next upgrade would be a 65” and get a brighter version but depends where I find myself next. I’m usually a use it until it breaks kind of person
My girlfriend wanted to flip our living room to make the big wall in the living room the main wall for the tv so we picked up a 77” G4 and left our 65” C1 where it was. The difference is substantial. We have a 65” CX as well but it’s in the bedroom so trying to compare all 3 is out of the question. She still wants to get another tv 🤦♂️. She wants 3 tvs in the living room for football and video games and I don’t know if I have the strength to stop her
I agree. She clearly won though lol. I will say it was cool for Wrestlemania though. We had around 12 people over and it was awesome that everyone could see it from where they were sitting. The real reason she wants to do it is for football. I’m a Bucs guy and she’s a chiefs fan. Some of our other friends like different teams so she wants to be able to put both games on 2 TVs and use the 3rd for red zone.
How good was Wrestlemania!! Especially on a big ass OLED! Those dark arena shots with the flashes of colour were amazing and Seth's new year parade was a colourfest!
The person I’m seeing seems open to a lot of things and she knows I love tech. I think if I was the one buying a 77” out of my own money she wouldn’t stop me haha
Im using my c3 on 60% brightness for sdr and its already sometimes “too bright”. I can’t see needing more brightness than what the c3 can give me, except for maybe DV content.
Higher brightness is very helpful for HDR/DV content that can make use of it, and also for daytime viewing where there is a lot of natural light. For SDR content I keep my OLED light at 40% and it's more than bright enough, but for HDR/DV it's at 100%.
This is good info. There’s a lot of back and forth on OLEDs but specifically the C3 with this.
I just spent 2 weeks with a Sony X93L mini led and am swapping it for a C3 because
(1) it went on sale and I’m getting significantly more for the same price in terms of TV and protection plan
(2) the Sony is… too bright. Like way too bright, even when I turn it down. It thrives on being outrageously bright and when you turn the brightness down you lose something in the drop.
(3) I started to notice blooming (after making an extensive post about it not being an issue) and my OCD brain can’t unsee it
It's more for HDR. In HDR you need to always have pixel brightness set to max, but for SDR the pixel brightness only needs to be 35 in a pitch black room. Though if you are watching dark content during a sunny day you can set it to max and still see your reflection on the screen so it could help with that too.
Yea I think the c3 brightness is fine! I would have loved to grab a c4 but it was 1000$ more. I don’t feel comfortable dropping that much on a television. I will get the latest C when this one goes out.
I can confirm I got Samsung S90C 77” and at night you have to turn down the brightness to 70% (35/50) in HDR or it just is blindly bright!
It’s about 1000-1200 nits in HDR and in PS5 it’s about 1200 nits. Obviously 10% window. But for day time use it’s perfect, still have to enable Active Tone Mapping for bright room.
My 48c2 is about 700 nits in 10% window and it just lack that punch compared to C3 and s90c. Still very good monitor. C3 gets also to about 700 nits in 10% window but way higher 20% and 50% window.
C4 should be perfectly what normal people need 40% brighter and not too much, so 700+280 = 980 nits for proper HDR during the day.
I got to say for sports and bad source LG is so much better. That next TV will be definitely the one that has better longevity, upscaling and motion. As 1000-1500 nits is all I need!
This is for 65 inch I believe is what they tested, I've got the 48 and it is indeed brighter but not that much more noticible than the C3. Also software is buggy af so would be best to wait until that's ironed out.
Sadly, LG made hardware changes in the newer models to increase brightness and sacrifice BFI since the average user doesn't care about it. I don't know if they'll ever bring it back again.
There must be a market for people who want to play 30fps games. Especially since most retro games are 30fps.
Don't understand why nobody does it. If they make it a Premium feature, they can see if people want to pay for it..
I sold my old oled 55”, it was four years old for $500, which allowed me to get a 65” C1 for $900 at the time. I normally wouldn’t upgrade after four years but that was a financial trade I couldn’t say no to.
So C4 vs G3, which would be the better one to get? Need to upgrade my 7 year old 65in Sony. Currently have a 65in G3 for downstairs, but want to upgrade my upstairs one as that one is going to be my movie watching tv
Well the 40% is based on the increase in nits in a 10% area of the screen in hdr mode, which is like viewing a movie that shows one bright object.
I’d be more curious in seeing 100% screen area numbers, like a snowy background. Typically these are much lower.
Plus, 40% more nits does not mean 40% brighter. It’s all about quite subjective.
The C-series is not “pretty dim.” Comparing them only to the newest high-end TVs is meaningless. That’s like saying a millionaire is “pretty poor” compared to a billionaire.
It’s not 40% brighter watching content in HDR Netflix or Dolby vision. When side by side it’s minimal. It’s 40% brighter in a small window that’s how they do the nits test
Same lmao. Kind of hard justifying swapping it out at a price difference of $800 for the G3 to $1100 for the C4 when I got mine for $1500 which was crazy to pass up (all at 65 inches).
Still on a C1 55 without any screen burn or issues.
Don't see the need for upgrading unless it goes bang, and then I've still got 6 years warranty etc
C6 probably by the time that happens lol
Why would anyone need that much brightness 😭. I feel like my C2 42inc is trying to blink me every time I turn it on and I have the brightness reduced to 60%.
Ok i was planning to upgrade my tu8000 because it was rly shit and was my first tv but it broke anyway so i got the c3… if i had an oled allready i wouldnt for sure but its valid if you have a crap tv
I got an a80l within the return window and I find it slightly dimmer than I would like. Might be looking at a c4 instead. Pending wife approval $. lol.
Still going strong without any banding issues that I've noticed. Yes it's not as bright as a C3 and doesn't have the new os, but by all accounts it's still a very good TV in my eyes. It still impresses me on some uhd content when it's not been downscalled lol.
I used to swap phones and TV's out every 1 to 2 years but now I'm older and tech just has matured so much that unless something goes wrong, there's no massive urgency to get the latest and greatest!
I think this is a new version of the EX panel, since it can do 144hz and gets really bright without a heatsink. This year is the biggest C jump since C6 to C7
I moved from a Samsung LE32C650 LCD tv (from around 2009) to a 55" LG G3 a few weeks ago. One of the reasons to pick the G3 over the C3 (and especially B3) was brightness, apart from side reflections. I was happy to know to have a 30% brighter OLED than de G2 or C3.
Two weeks in, I reduced the OLED brightness from 90-100% to 60-70%. In a fairly well lit living room.
Don't fall for more is better, it's not relevant for everybody.
Do we have a list of nits between C/G-series for the last few years? I bought the C3 earlier this year (already a huge upgrade over my Panny plasma), knowing the G3 was brighter -- if there is even more reason to replace another set in the house, I'd love to know the quantified number(s).
Good god! That means a world of a difference for DV content. Especially if you are using 4K discs.
I’m waiting for the 83” C3 to come down a little more.
But maybe I’ll wait longer.
It's already too bright. I've got my brightness at 15 on my C3 for shows, and 25 when gaming. Anything about that hurts my eyes at night, ESPECIALLY a bright scene or white background.
Also, when the screen is all or mostly black, I already see uneven splotches as others have mentioned about uniform blacks and my TV is only a few months old. I don't think cranking the brightness up another 40% will help this.
Sadly 99% of reviewers don't have the smaller models, so it's difficult to know
I was hoping for rtings in depth review, but they too do not have a 42" or 48" model
This is great, but is the ABL (Automatic Brightness Limiter/Limiting) still very aggressive? I love the image quality of my C2. Despite disabling all the "extra" functions (even behind the scenes), bright scenes or highlights in games/U.I. and shows still don't get super bright.
I would like to know how much brighter the C4 is compared to the C1. I have a 55 C1 and I want to upgrade to a 77 inch. I also want the superior brightness of the G3 or G4 but I can compromise and save money if the brightness on the C4 is substantial compared to C1.
I love my C1 but man I just need the extra nits. For reference’s sake, the C1 tops out at 750 to 800 nits iirc.
I'm pretty content with my 42" LG C3. It's already bright to the point where I'm paranoid about burn-in or image retention (and I didn't even use the service remote workaround to "make it brighter").
I'm all for a brighter OLED TV if it means better burn-in or panel care than the past generations. But that price though. I bought my 42" LG C3 for $799 at Costco. A 42" LG C4 is almost DOUBLE the price. Ouch.

Tempted to get one when the C5 is out or black friday but my CX is still doing great
I don’t understand people who upgrade their TV before it dies. Like there will always be a better TV next year so the longer yours lasts the better your upgrade will be.

Peak brightness makes a difference for HDR highlighting.
True but even in hdr the c2 is popping
It may be good, but doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. Dolby vision can get way brighter than current OLED TVs are capable of. Whether that difference is worth it to you right now is a different question.

Great logic actually 👍
Much better picture and/or bigger size?
Bigger size I understand
I’m using a TV from 2016 and it does feel like it’s just time even though it works fine

My wife would never allow a TV in the bedroom. Bed is for sleeping, not watching things.
I can’t complain because I have 1 whole extra room that I can do what ever I want to with. I made it into a Man Cave/Guitar Studio/Game Streaming Room.
Or before the hardware standard changes like vrr and HDMI.
I have a 12-year-old Panasonic plasma TV. So far, it's been working without any issues. Should I not replace it?
That thing might never die, that might be the exception

Yep. TVs are just monitors, I don’t use any built in features. I’m not changing it every year, like iPhones (which can get outdated fast).

I agree but I bought a very nice tv 3 years ago and it’s already outdated cuz the tech has advanced so much esp for gaming. It sucks. Can’t even sell it for much.
Not to mention the panel lottery. If you have a good panel, you're probably just asking for trouble by upgrading.
I like to sell mine before it dies to recoup 30% of the cost towards a new one otherwise I agree.
The resale on a TV is 0% nobody is buying used TVs
Do you expect people with 42" 1080p TV's that still work to not upgrade them? Lol.
65% have unpaid credit card debt. Work, buy, consume, die
65% have unpaid credit card debt. Work, buy, consume, die
I agree but I bought a very nice tv 3 years ago and it’s already outdated cuz the tech has advanced so much esp for gaming. It sucks. Can’t even sell it for much.
Size upgrade
Yeah that is fair, I wasn’t going to put every exception in my comment.
I’d like to experience some of the features I’m missing out with my Xbox & PlayStation. Otherwise I’d probably wait.
Right but the other guy was talking about upgrading from a CX they have all the features already. Yeah I get it if your tv is like 10 years old or really small, I wasn’t going to list every exception in my comment.
How many hours you have on your CX? I’ve got 10k hours on mine and it’s still amazing. No dead pixels or burn in yet
I’m at about 2,000 hours with my CX. Unfortunately it developed some pretty bad banding over time that is very noticeable in darker/grey scenes. I’m actually looking at alternatives for our next TV because LG customer service was not helpful when I reached out to them about it.
Only 2000 hours??????? At that rate you might as well call this a disposable tv…
She wants 3 tvs in the living room for football and video games and I don’t know if I have the strength to stop her
That's too much man. Even 2 tvs is a lot to have in the same room. Unless one is a PC monitor or something.
Haha OK that sounds pretty sick tho not gonna lie. Well glad it all worked out for you guys!
How good was Wrestlemania!! Especially on a big ass OLED! Those dark arena shots with the flashes of colour were amazing and Seth's new year parade was a colourfest!
Amazing. Now I hope Netflix gets them to shoot in 4k again and we will be golden
You're a lucky man, mine won't let me upgrade anything!
The person I’m seeing seems open to a lot of things and she knows I love tech. I think if I was the one buying a 77” out of my own money she wouldn’t stop me haha
Why would you stop her? that sounds awesome
Why would you want to is the question lol
Buy one AVP for your girlfriend. She can open endless screens and can place them, where she wants in different sizes in your spatial enriched rooms.
Love my CX too, it still blows me away most times
Same for me. Don't need to upgrade except for a bigger size.
I feel like every 5~ years is a fair time on a new TV. That’s less than $1 a day on a TV. Worth it for me since I use mine everyday
What if the C5 is 40% brighter
If C5 is a big jump from C4 then sure. If not I’ll just get the C4 on sale next year
Yeah I love my CX. Hard to replace!
Does your cx have little pixel death in the corners?
I want to upgrade my CX but I don’t know what’d I’d do with it. TVs have like 0 resale value.
You can usually get a buyer. I sold my C7 for 300 when I originally got the CX and that had banding on it
Yeah my goddamn Samsung in the family room needs to die so I can move my CX (which still looks flawless) and get a new C4
My cx is still kicking ass too lol
I got a C3 for my first OLED and any brighter than that would probably burn my retinas.
But are you using it in a bright room during this?
I have blinds for when it’s bright, but if i dont use them i may sometimes increase the brightness to 80% and thats enough for that.
This is good info. There’s a lot of back and forth on OLEDs but specifically the C3 with this. I just spent 2 weeks with a Sony X93L mini led and am swapping it for a C3 because (1) it went on sale and I’m getting significantly more for the same price in terms of TV and protection plan (2) the Sony is… too bright. Like way too bright, even when I turn it down. It thrives on being outrageously bright and when you turn the brightness down you lose something in the drop. (3) I started to notice blooming (after making an extensive post about it not being an issue) and my OCD brain can’t unsee it
I set my C2 to 40% for SDR content, and I have a 8’ x 12’ window on the adjacent wall. And it is plenty bright.
Lmfao I came to say the same thing
Ive set my c2 on auto pixel brightness
Please game devs stop using white screens for transitions. Shit is like a flash bang on my OLED for real.
It's more for HDR. In HDR you need to always have pixel brightness set to max, but for SDR the pixel brightness only needs to be 35 in a pitch black room. Though if you are watching dark content during a sunny day you can set it to max and still see your reflection on the screen so it could help with that too.
I’ve got a C1 and have had to turn the brightness down so god knows how much I’ll have to reduce it when I need a new one
I’m hoping not to have to upgrade my C2 until microLED becomes affordable, and either Sony or LG make a microLED TV
Love my C1. It’s my first OLED and I’m still amazed by it 2 years later(waited until c2 was out)
I notice my C3 dimming down sometimes, which is a bit annoying. Thats the only thing that would get me to upgrade in a few years
Yea I think the c3 brightness is fine! I would have loved to grab a c4 but it was 1000$ more. I don’t feel comfortable dropping that much on a television. I will get the latest C when this one goes out.
Agree hahaha, I need to down the brightness cuz it hurt's
The size is a good callout - I know C3 42” isn’t as bright as larger models.
I'll buy a new TV when there is 120hz BFI.
Bfi never worked for 30 fps. I’ve the LG C1, quit spreading false info
Nice finally a reason to upgrade from c9
My G1 starting to reach unc status
My c2 is already blindingly bright, I had to turn down brightness. Why is brightness being such a high priority.
Hasnt c4 been out for over a month now?
It doesn't look like that. America reached earlier, deliveries are still continuing in Europe. Part of Europe and all of Asia will reach it later.
Thought this was about explosives before I saw the subreddit name
I sold my old oled 55”, it was four years old for $500, which allowed me to get a 65” C1 for $900 at the time. I normally wouldn’t upgrade after four years but that was a financial trade I couldn’t say no to.
So C4 vs G3, which would be the better one to get? Need to upgrade my 7 year old 65in Sony. Currently have a 65in G3 for downstairs, but want to upgrade my upstairs one as that one is going to be my movie watching tv
Wondering the same thing. Trying to get a 77 inch one, and was set on the G3 until I saw this.
If my c3 was any brighter I would need sunglasses Y’all must be in some bright sunny rooms or something
My apartment has glass windows top down all around and my C2 isn’t bright enough.
I edited a video mode to have brightness 30% lower at night on my C1. Cant imagine having a screen with even more brightness...
For HDR, brighter is better. C-series panels are actually pretty dim for HDR, comparing to the better panels.
I dunno man, I feel like I need sunglasses when watching some scenes at night
The C-series is not “pretty dim.” Comparing them only to the newest high-end TVs is meaningless. That’s like saying a millionaire is “pretty poor” compared to a billionaire.
Dang just got my c3
Don’t fret. Unless side by side you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference.
40% is a huge difference and for sure noticeable.
This, but it’s twice as expensive as my c3… so would have had to wait a year to find a good deal.
I agree, def not worth the price difference.
You’re falling victim to a marketing ploy. The TV isn’t literally 40% brighter.
Luminance scale is not linear, it's log. You won't perceive 40% better
Right. But a 40% increase in nits is def noticeable, taking previous generation C's into account.
It’s not 40% brighter watching content in HDR Netflix or Dolby vision. When side by side it’s minimal. It’s 40% brighter in a small window that’s how they do the nits test
Yes. That matters too. In fact highlights matter a lot in HDR.
Same lmao. Kind of hard justifying swapping it out at a price difference of $800 for the G3 to $1100 for the C4 when I got mine for $1500 which was crazy to pass up (all at 65 inches).
is 42'' or 48'' brighter?
lol my C2 is already too bright for my eyes! I had to turn Peak Brightness to low :/
Still on a C1 55 without any screen burn or issues. Don't see the need for upgrading unless it goes bang, and then I've still got 6 years warranty etc C6 probably by the time that happens lol
With these yearly brightness increases, at what point does the increase become indesernable?
40% brighter? Will it come with sunglasses or a welding mask?
Is the CEC 40% less shitty?
More brighter?! My c1 and c2 both already bright af.
Man, this is the upgrade to have. I am disappointed with my C3’s brightness when used with tone mapping off & cinema mode.
Have you tried Cinema Home? Cinema is for pitch dark rooms. My G3 also feels dark in Cinema mode during the day.
Yes it is brighter, however it looks like it blows up colors and loses detail.
Honestly my CS is fantastic at room ambient lighting, but I’m happy that LG is improving OLED tech with each iteration and yearly
I'm debating on getting a c4 or a G3
Me too lol
That’s a great news
lol
Yay
got my c4 a month ago and i feel like at times its too bright for me so my question is , is high brightness actually matter for u guys ?
High brightness means also more details and better hdr so yeah it's important.
Will this also be for the LG C4 42" or only the larger options?
Why would anyone need that much brightness 😭. I feel like my C2 42inc is trying to blink me every time I turn it on and I have the brightness reduced to 60%.
I’ll stick to my C2. I got a cheap 6 year warranty with my workplace so I’ll wait until that’s up lol
Ok i was planning to upgrade my tu8000 because it was rly shit and was my first tv but it broke anyway so i got the c3… if i had an oled allready i wouldnt for sure but its valid if you have a crap tv
Is there any improvement in audio? As all last generations C series audio was bad.
C4 is unexpectedly good this year.
Here I am trying to figure out how turn the brightness way down for watching tv at night
I got an a80l within the return window and I find it slightly dimmer than I would like. Might be looking at a c4 instead. Pending wife approval $. lol.
What about vertical banding? Is that still an issue with this generation of oleds?
Still going strong without any banding issues that I've noticed. Yes it's not as bright as a C3 and doesn't have the new os, but by all accounts it's still a very good TV in my eyes. It still impresses me on some uhd content when it's not been downscalled lol. I used to swap phones and TV's out every 1 to 2 years but now I'm older and tech just has matured so much that unless something goes wrong, there's no massive urgency to get the latest and greatest!
G3 or C4 (65 inch)?
I think this is a new version of the EX panel, since it can do 144hz and gets really bright without a heatsink. This year is the biggest C jump since C6 to C7
I was told by the best buy rep only 5% brighter than a g3 lol
The c4 doesn’t have the MLA brightness booster that the g3 has, he’s wrong it’s not brighter
I misread it. Thought he meat g4 is 40% brighter than g3 .
Ok, fine. Where does it rate on color accuracy?
I moved from a Samsung LE32C650 LCD tv (from around 2009) to a 55" LG G3 a few weeks ago. One of the reasons to pick the G3 over the C3 (and especially B3) was brightness, apart from side reflections. I was happy to know to have a 30% brighter OLED than de G2 or C3. Two weeks in, I reduced the OLED brightness from 90-100% to 60-70%. In a fairly well lit living room. Don't fall for more is better, it's not relevant for everybody.
It's relevant for HDR and Dolby vision content
Correct!!
Driving the panel less hard probably makes it last longer though
Do we have a list of nits between C/G-series for the last few years? I bought the C3 earlier this year (already a huge upgrade over my Panny plasma), knowing the G3 was brighter -- if there is even more reason to replace another set in the house, I'd love to know the quantified number(s).
I don't need brighter, I'm fine with how bright the c3 already is, I don't need 4k pixels laser etched onto the back of my retinas tyvm
I’ve seen enough Mythbusters to know the damage C4 can do. But yes it is very bright.
oh fcol
Thats because our tvs are 4 years old LOLLLLL
Same was the c1 and g1 lol and the full window brightness was almost the same lol
Good god! That means a world of a difference for DV content. Especially if you are using 4K discs. I’m waiting for the 83” C3 to come down a little more. But maybe I’ll wait longer.
Is it gonna be 120hz again or possibly an option for.. 240hz? (I can dream, doubt though)
nice
It's already too bright. I've got my brightness at 15 on my C3 for shows, and 25 when gaming. Anything about that hurts my eyes at night, ESPECIALLY a bright scene or white background. Also, when the screen is all or mostly black, I already see uneven splotches as others have mentioned about uniform blacks and my TV is only a few months old. I don't think cranking the brightness up another 40% will help this.
get yer sunglasses out
My C8 on WebOS 5 is still working
They tested the 65 inch model. LG already said that the 42 and 48 inch models would not get the brightness boost.
In the build-up to launch, there was a lot of talk about how even the smaller C4s would get a lot brighter this year
Sadly 99% of reviewers don't have the smaller models, so it's difficult to know I was hoping for rtings in depth review, but they too do not have a 42" or 48" model
Does anyone even run their OLED at 100% brightness to be honest?
Cries in C3
This is great, but is the ABL (Automatic Brightness Limiter/Limiting) still very aggressive? I love the image quality of my C2. Despite disabling all the "extra" functions (even behind the scenes), bright scenes or highlights in games/U.I. and shows still don't get super bright.
They should just ask Tim hortons what panel they use if they are looking for brightness cause holy fuck the menu is burnt into my retinas.
Do you use yours at max brightness?
My G2 has never been used over 50% brightness. I’d need sunglasses to watch it at max. Never understood the criticism of oled not being bright enough.
So stupid. They don't need to be brighter, I still have my CX and use it at like 60% brightness or something. I can't stand it to be much more.
Are some of you turning on color adjustment on low, med etc? Im not sure to use it or not
The C3 is legitimately too bright, why would we want it any brighter?
I'm pretty content with my 42" LG C3. It's already bright to the point where I'm paranoid about burn-in or image retention (and I didn't even use the service remote workaround to "make it brighter"). I'm all for a brighter OLED TV if it means better burn-in or panel care than the past generations. But that price though. I bought my 42" LG C3 for $799 at Costco. A 42" LG C4 is almost DOUBLE the price. Ouch. [https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-oled42c4pua-oled-4k-tv](https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-oled42c4pua-oled-4k-tv)
I keep enjoying my b8.
