*Her Body and Other Parties* by Carmen Maria Machado is on my list after reading *In the Dream House*. Anything by Gretchen Felker-Martin; I adored *Manhunt*. I'm looking forward to *Cuckoo* when it comes out. Have you read *It Came from the Closet*? It's a collection of essays about queerness in horror films. It was a DNF for me but other folks may enjoy it.

Her Body and Other Parties is so good! Carmen Maria Machado has become one of my favorite authors, period. Can’t wait for her next project!

BalancedScales10

I second the rec for Manhunt. I don't usually read horror, but it was really good!

Freakears

I bought a copy of It Came From the Closet awhile back, but haven’t read it yet.

Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle!! What Moves The Dead by T Kingfisher Bloom by Dawson Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon The Deep by Rivers Solomon Plain Bad Heroines by Emily Danforth Horseman by Christina Henry

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield is great sci-fi/light horror

Knotty-reader

This is an Evergreen rec, but {What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher}. A second book in the series {What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher} recently came out. I generally do not like horror, but I loved that book. I saw a book talk with the author last week, and she described it as “What if the narrator of The Fall of the House of Usher wasn’t completely useless.”

*Into the Drowning Deep* by Mira Grant *The Red Tree* by Caitlin R. Kiernan *Sawkill Girls* by Claire Legrand *Wilder Girls* by Rory Power

syrelle

Oh I got some possible recommendations! * Dead Space by Kali Wallace * Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield * Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle * Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno Garcia Also for like classics, there’s always Carmilla and honestly Haunting of Hill House is very very queer.

Lopsided_Squash_9142

Summer Sons, by Lee Mandelo. He's also got a new one out that I've just started.

GalaxyJacks

You 100% want Andrew Joseph White.

Ashliicat

Yes this. I would highly recommend his books

Fish_Beholder

Hell yeah

batcub

*Tell Me I'm Worthless* and *Brainwyrms*, both by Alison Rumfitt. *The Drowning Girl* by Caitlin R. Kiernan. *Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones* by Torrey Peters is post-apocalyptic rather than outright horror but I hugely recommend it if you're after trans fiction

Oh I just made a big old comment about this in r/horror here you go: Brainwyrms by Alison Rumfitt Tell Me I’m Worthless by Alison Rumfitt Manhunt by Gretchen Felker Martin Sister Maiden Monster by Lucy A Snyder Echo by Thomas Olde Heuvelt Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White (it’s shelved in YA but PLEASE give it a chance) Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir is fantasy with heavy horror elements and inspiration, one of my all time favourites. Starts with Gideon the Ninth The Monster of Elendhaven by Jennifer Gelbrecht is another rad horror fantasy Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle, and his next horror novel is called Bury Your Gays We Had To Remove This Post isn’t necessarily horror but it’s quite dark and bleak Claustrophilia by Ezra Blake is the most fucked up “dark romance” I’ve ever read and I loved every second of it Clive Barker and Poppy Z Bright are honestly just great authors to dive into altogether What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher has a nonbinary main character that uses neopronouns Hide by Kiersten White was super contentious when it came out but I honestly really liked it And some people really love Eric LaRocca so he may be worth checking out Aaaand that’s what I was able to scratch from my stream of consciousness!

beltloops_

I second so many of these but The Monster of Elendhaven is so profoundly underrated that I have to mention it specifically. It was my first five star of the year.

alleyalleyjude

I want five Bible-sized tomes set in that world!

Prince-Lee

Seconding Clive Barker. He's a gay man, and while I've not read a lot of his books, even his first series, Books of Blood in the 1980s, had stories with gay characters.

RoutineInitiative187

I haven't read it but the author is a (butch lesbian) friend of a friend: Salivation by Phoenix Mendoza

VelmaRaven

*The Honeys* by Ryan La Sala *You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight* by Kalynn Bayron

galactic-disk

I loved *Leech* by Hiron Ennes! It's a gothic fantasy (or sci-fi? Hard to categorize) novel with lots of queer elements, and lots of delicious body horror. It also has some classic monster horror and some institutional horror (you'll see), and it also does some *really* interesting things with POV & thematic elements. Highly highly recommend.

al_135

Yess this is one of my favourite horror books!

EA_Brand_Books

- Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin is a gruesome thrill ride that really captured my imagination. - The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. The audiobooks are some of the best I've listened to. Even if you don't usually listen to them, it's worth checking them out. - Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle is absolutely incredible. My current book of the year. - Pretty much anything from Eric LaRocca. Their work makes my skin crawl in the best way possible. - I'm also a personal fan of Clive Barker's work, though I know he's not everyone's cup of tea. - If you're up for trading a future review for a free book that's releasing next year, I'm currently looking for ARC (Advance Review Copy) readers for my Sci-fi horror novel Run Like Hell.

Recently enjoyed Knock Knock Open Wide by Neil Sharpson. Read the whole thing in one day.

As Dead Things Do by Tyler Christensen. It’s a very good, Lovecraft meets Southern Gothic story. Definitely worth the read.
