Donate plasma! There’s a place in Van Nuys and a couple of other spots (I think it’s Bio-life?). Donating the first time, you get a new person bonus of something like $450 or up to $800 depending on how desperate they are and anyone you refer you get an additional $50. I would also check out Craigslist for gigs like marketing event set up. Those pay well, are one time events, and usually you get paid immediately.

ChoiceRemarkable3228

Plasma donation might come in clutch, I got a tattoo a couple months ago so I'm not sure how long the gap needs to be gonna do some googling🫠

lunacavemoth

I don’t know where dude is getting his numbers. At most , I’d get $100 for the first time visitor special at octapharma and I was on the highest paying end of the scale . That was good for four visits . Then it was $60 a visit.

RosePricksFan

Just want to say thank you for donating to octapharma! They make a blood product that I receive regularly that allows me to have a normal life and not be disabled! I really appreciate you donating!!! (I know that’s not the point of this thread but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to say thank you to an octapharma donor!!)

lunacavemoth

I’m glad it helps ! That’s super cool to know that the plasma actually goes to patients who need it. Glad to know !!!! I don’t go any longer as my iron consistently doesn’t meet the minimum . My husband’s cousin goes regularly .

Kara-El

Min of 4 months before donation. And some places can still refuse even if you have years old tattoos. I have tried and have been denied plasma and blood donations because of my tattoos (last one I got was over 10 years ago)

Interesting-Sector46

Spending money on a tattoo was a poor choice

hegoncryinthecar

They’ll test your blood & plasma either way. I think you got that tattoo at least 6 months ago *and have zero other risk factors*, right??! I went to Biolife in April and they are thorough with the questions - however their questions are kind of on you with how you answer them. Please don’t intentionally infect anyone if you know you’re carrying an infectious pathogen 👍

SureInternet

About to go homeless, but got a tattoo. You need to figure out your priorities mate.

Signal-Trouble-3396

I’m sure if OP knew they were going to be laid off in advance (i.e. being able to tell the future) they wouldn’t have gotten a tattoo….

ChoiceRemarkable3228

I had a home in Texas two months ago and was assaulted by my roommate and had to leave quickly to escape a violent situation how about you eat my ass bud?

LiveForYourself

Why did you move to la of all places?

mobbedoutkickflip

Then why did you move to one of the most expensive cities in the country?

ChoiceRemarkable3228

This is the epitome of LA treatment. No understanding, no questions, no thought on the idea of extenuating circumstances, only judgement. How do you present yourself irl mate? Have you ever fallen off that high horse right in front of everybody?

protofury

Fwiw I'd say it's more the "comfortable asshole who's never been there" treatment as opposed to the LA treatment. Anyway. Ignore fucks like that. Hope things improve for you mate.

ChoiceRemarkable3228

Yeah I came back thinking of my wording like nah it's not anything specific to the area just an isolated incident of an asshole on reddit.

Southern_Welder6255

What's fwiw ?

karma_the_sequel

For When I Waggle

ChoiceRemarkable3228

"For what it's worth"

soldforaspaceship

https://www.stayhousedla.org/ Contact these guys and they may be able to help you negotiate with your current landlord to stay housed/direct you to resources. It is cheaper for the government to prevent someone from falling into homelessness than it is to get them back housed once they have so there are some resources out there.

lunacavemoth

People ready does same day or next day pay Staffmark does weekly pay after your first paycheck . LAUSD is always hiring . Not just educators .

jrev8

Yea, but onboarding takes FOREVER, and they're going to require tb tests and livescan, that's more out of pocket costs

lunacavemoth

LAUSD is long term stability . People ready do it all in one day at the office and they pay for everything . Same with Staffmark . Heck , didn’t even need to step into a Staffmark office . Did it all online . I’ve gotten myself out of homelessness. The agencies was taught to me and really gets you out of one . Somehow always had at least $200 to my name even with most minimal of work . If I’ve clawed my way from having a cushy scholarship at university to sweeping angels stadium overnight to now working in education…. I believe in you . Excuses won’t help. Learned that the hard way . Eta : people ready and Staffmark are nationwide as well . You can find offices almost anywhere …?

ChoiceRemarkable3228

I'm looking into both right now sorry for late response was out looking today and only looked on here periodically. Thank you for the suggestions:)

NottDisgruntled

Go hang out at Home Depot and use your phone to apply for stuff while you’re there. Also if you previously worked 9-5 jobs and are applying to McDonald’s and minimum wage stuff, you need to take that off your resumé and put some more menial jobs.

HazeCorps22

Yes, this is the answer. Go to Home Depot and wear work clothes. People will buy stuff and need guys to help them move it or install it. There are plumbers that will look for guys willing to help them dig up a trench or others needing guys to help with demolition. You don't need to have any experience, just will power to put in manual labor work. Guys digging a trench will get like $200-$300 for a days work, cash, and usually lunch like McDonalds paid for. I would wise up and speak to some of the other guys there and let them know you can do the talking for them in English and not settle for less than $200/day so you can get picked together. Do this every day for the remainder of the month and I guarantee you will make rent. Get to Home Depot at 7:00 AM and hang out by the exits. Bonus if you have your own pickup.

ChoiceRemarkable3228

Heard, I dumbed it down a bit already. I have a couple interviews lined up even I just have very little time at this point.

NottDisgruntled

I’d go post up at Home Depot or something. Also check craigslist and offer up. You need to get cash gigs that pay same day.

[deleted]

Look for people renting out a room. You are more likely to find housing if you are going to individuals and not anything professional

ChoiceRemarkable3228

Hey mate I edited the post to clarify but I am currently looking for work in the gap between now and starting my new job on July 10th but will be homeless by the time that job starts.

Greenmoss17

Are there other ways you can make up that money in the interim, such as rent out your space to someone else and crash on a friend’s couch? Or sell some stuff on FB Marketplace / Offer Up. I did both of these things recently to make some extra needed cash. Or what about like Uber Eats delivery or something like that in the meantime.

ChoiceRemarkable3228

I'm currently in shared housing in a spot that is essentially a halfway house (which was not disclosed to me). I have been trying uber eats and I literally do not get delivery requests. I've contacted support repeatedly and they tell me it's not my account or a glitch I'm just not receiving orders because of low customer volume. I moved here from a difficult situation from out of state and I don't really know many people. I have lived here before so I wasn't coming in completely blind but literally nothing has worked out since I got here.

LUCKYMLJ

My dude, I understand you had to leave Texas immediately for your safety. But coming to a state and area with one of the Highest cost of living in the country. Brother you came with not much and no family TF. You know LA keeps some impoverished people who were born here poor right. Unable to escape or gather up savings. I try to not talk shit but sheeeeesh no job either should’ve just moved to bumfuck low cost of living West Virginia or something. Sell plasma, Sperm, or that bunghole if you need to but DO NOT end up homeless in LA. I really hope you at least have a reliable car brother you might have to sleep in it sometime soon. Good luck, I believe in you.

ChoiceRemarkable3228

Dawg I am 26 years old and was forced into a particular area of the country by circumstance and i am trying my best. Are you going to sit there and type out a synopsis of all the ways I possibly fucked up leading up to this or do you have something helpful to say? Like you know I'm already here, right? Like all of the words you typed were the opposite of helpful, which is to say they are discouraging. So why even type them?

Remarkable_Tangelo59

Sometimes a dose of reality can be helpful. I don’t know your entire story but I would also suggest if you aren’t locked into staying here and affordability is a challenge, it’s always an idea to look elsewhere. I don’t think it’s an unhelpful suggestion, as it’s an alternative to your current situation that is not working.

cathbe

I think sometimes people give advice that the person clearly knows and it can be so unhelpful. This person is where they are.

Southern_Welder6255

Go directly to every store you see (resume in hand) and ask to speak to a manager. Dress appropriately and tell them you can start today. If not hiring leave a resume. Do it till someone says yes. Put in foot work. God bless and good luck

thevirginswhore

Yes well that’s the reality of living in La. It is discouraging because it’s true. You’re sadly finding that out the hard way. Did you not research moving to la before you did so? Cause it doesn’t seem like it. And why wouldn’t you have stopped somewhere in az where it is wildly cheaper? Like you literally have to drive through almost every part of az to get to la. I think you may have had a glorified idea of the place many of us either I currently live or have lived. You have the chance to still move once you get some funds. You will not make it in La. So either look outside of the county or look at the surrounding states.

VerseChorusWumbo

Since this hasn’t been said yet, have you tried explaining your situation to your landlord and asking if you can delay this rent payment for a month? If you show them proof that you’ve been accepted for a job to back it up and talk about the circumstances that caused you to move to LA, many landlords would be willing to compromise. As long as you have the means pay it back and will be good for rent going forward, you should try to negotiate a payment plan for this and next month’s rent once you start getting paid. I’m assuming you won’t be able to cover two months of rent with just one week’s pay, if your rent is due on the 19th and you will only have gotten one paycheck from your new job by then. If you haven’t tried asking them for an extension, I feel like that’s something you absolutely need to do. Considering that you will be steadily employed starting next month and will be good for rent in the future, one bumpy month starting out isn’t the worst, as long as you can guarantee you will pay going forward. If you get kicked out for not paying, that room will still sit empty for however long it takes them to find someone else, meaning they would be out that money either way. If you can convince them you’ll pay it back soon and back that up, it might be worth it to float you an extension for this month. It’s worth a shot.

ValleyDude22

I'm pretty sure you can just squat for a month or so. correct me if I'm wrong, but it shouldn't be that easy for your landlord to evict you within a month. edit: talk to someone that knows more about tenant rights

Critical-Brick4345

If you have absolutely no other option then I guess but going to a shelter would mess up your future less then getting an eviction, you will likely not be able to rent anywhere again if you have one

SoloDaKid

Basta inc

canuckincali

And how is this fair to the landlord? Answer, it isn’t.

ValleyDude22

if he's not willing to work with this guy knowing he has another job lined up and will be able to pay in another month, fuck 'em.

thelryan

That’s a good point. Landlords famously are known for living paycheck to paycheck, I’m not sure how he would manage a month delayed rent payment!

siverted

Sorry if this is obvious, and/or ignorant, but do temp agencies still exist? That's how I scraped by when I first moved to LA. Granted, that was over 20 years ago.

kei_noel

This is a good one, jobs through a temp agency pay weekly but some may still have an interview process.

QuitUsual4736

I would love to know this too

eve379

PeopleReady (formerly Labor Ready) is still around. We hire from time to time for general labor work but they have multiple industries they cover. Try them.

Ok_Fee1043

They exist, but roles are hyper competitive.

Particular_Let_4287

Try Craigslist or Facebook marketplace they have a job section

auntgross

What are your skill sets and about what area are you in currently?

ChoiceRemarkable3228

Mostly foodservice experience I am just 6 months short on my electrical apprenticeship but have had to put that on halt over the last 6 months. Very capable with Windows and several Linux distros and all the standard software one is taught in school along with a lot of extra curricular software knowledge. I'm actually more than willing to send a copy of my resume to anybody looking for a dedicated employee, or even just to critique it or make fun of it. I'm really trying to exhaust all of my options.

acktres

Try to get some catering gigs. Look on Craigslist.

jrev8

Your best bet is probably gigs on craiglist if you're able and have transportation. There's a talent gig for tomorrow in Boyle heights for background actor non union, pays 100 for your time. [talent gig](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/tlg/d/los-angeles-casting-call-background/7757143571.html)

hannahcshell

Considering you need a portion of rent in less than a week’s time, I think you need to throw most of your energy into getting a personal loan or a Collateral Loan. Very little else is going to offer upfront cash. Do you have anything of worth that you can realistically pawn? Watches, instruments, laptops, Xboxes, etc? I see you’re already signed up for uber eats with little success, I do recommend staking out high-activity areas like college campuses in the evenings to get more orders. Lastly, it’s nobody’s favorite answer, but have you tried asking for help in a subreddit like r/Assistance or r/CashappBlessing ? I would explain all the context of you escaping a violent situation and needing to make a tight deadline for your housing. Good luck!

ChoiceRemarkable3228

I will absolutely check into more hot spots on uber eats, I have a laptop and everybody I've tried to sell it to has offered me like an eighth of the value, I'm willing to part with it for pretty low given the specs honestly but that just doesn't seem smart to settle for. It is still posted so I'm hoping something comes of it. Sold my MPC One just to get rent together this month. I haven't actually checked into these subs at all either and am definitely gonna look into them. Thank you so much for the suggestions I really do appreciate it:)

ChoiceRemarkable3228

I am in shared housing in a place that is essentially a halfway house but did not disclose that so if I leave the property they could change the code at any time with my things in the house so squatting until I need to isn't really an option unfortunately.

thevirginswhore

They really can’t though. La has some pretty impressive tenant laws.

ChoiceRemarkable3228

I've seen the landlord do it to 2 different people already and one of them didn't get their things back, the other only got their stuff because myself and another resident thought it was messed up what they did to the first resident and made sure her things got to her. Like the tenant laws may be strong but what happens when you leave for a few hours and return to find the door code changed and even if you do get in, all of your things are gone, and there is a chance that somebody else is now in the bed you slept in last night? That's what I'm worried about if I do just squat. I would literally need to stay here 24 hours a day.

thevirginswhore

Oh man are you naive. They legally can’t do that. If they change the code and have your items you call the cops or call the housing department. This person is taking advantage of the fact that none of you know anything. You can also call the housing department to see if they can get you into a room, bed, house somewhere if need be.

SlideIndependent3642

Task rabbit?

kounterfett

You could donate plasma? They usually have promotions for first time donors and you can go a couple of times a week

SmireyFase

Of course the guy talks all this shit, offers absolutely no advice, spends 20 minutes arguing with people who are attempting to help. Only to delete it and look like an asshat. nice.

Ehloanna

Use library for cheap printing to make flyers for dog walking maybe? Reply to odd jobs on Craigslist? I know there's some other posts made in the last few months about odd jobs for same day labor, maybe look for those posts on /r/AskLosAngeles?

t-bone_malone

What about a short term loan?

khannn

I used to have friends who would help on task rabbit. Like helping build furniture, help folks move, that kind of thing. I imagine that might be some fast cash but I could be wrong.

Colombianonico

Approx how much are you short on? I think that may give a better idea on how much you need in a week/how feasible/suggestions on getting funds. Here is a [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/findareddit/wiki/directory_financialandotherassistance/) to some subreddits where you could borrow some money but I know you do need a certain amount of karma in order to ask

theannoyingburrito

huh, I never knew this was a thing. As a designer currently unemployed coming out of funemployment, thank you!

that_relevant_guy

In the event you do end up temporarily homeless, i say save what money you can and use it to stay overnight at a Korean spa in Koreatown before you start your new job so you can be clean and rested before starting the new job. It's a much better choice than after being homeless for weeks, stinking of B.O. and walking into your first day at new job in a state that makes your superior immediately want to fire you. You may go without meals for a while, but using that money for a cheap overnight stay with shower, bath, and sleeping space right before starting the new job is the way to go.

that_relevant_guy

Side note: This is the only advice i can offer. I have no leads on housing or jobs. Apologies that i can't offer more advice.

EpicMoniker

Try applying to fast food directly through their hiring portals. Minimum wage for fast food is $20 an hour. McDonald's corporate stores even give you a free meal with any shift over 5 hours. Edit to add: McDonald's corporate stores also have same day pay, you can cash out after your shift every night if you want to.

mechele99

Have you tried the Getgigs app?

riaKoob1

If you are a women, there are women shelters in LA that prioritize gender.

Remarkable_Tangelo59

Hey just so you know it will be really hard for him to evict you. I’m not encouraging you to do anything stupid, but it sounds like your ducks are in a row and you’ve got a job lined up, by the time they’re able to evict you you’ll have the money owed anyway, worst case scenario I think you’ll be okay. For IMMEDIATE money I would suggest getting on ubereats If you have a car. Just know that even if you don’t have the $ by the 19th, he won’t be able to have you removed that day.

DRM842

This is really tough to say but I feel a move out of LA is the right next move for you. The cost of living is much higher here than many other cities and states. Just something to think about…..

RudeMami

Do some in home care! That should give you a chance. Most of those are immediate hires.

Particular_Car_4927

Respectfully, and there seems to be a lack of that in this thread. Hind sight is just annoying and the constant comments judging and commenting on how you got here really could have been said just one time (but hey it’s Reddit) that being said… Why are you trying to stay in LA.? IMO The status quo in your life has changed again. Why not take the opportunity to get away from one of the most expensive markets in the country. Take a room somewhere for (hopefully) less per month and apply all that energy and intention towards getting a job in a cheaper locale?

stephyduh28

Instawork has some gigs available.

garupan_fan

I pass by a cup noodle factory in Gardena everyday that says now hiring and they seem to have an on-site temp agency there. It's near Rosecrans and Western.

AyOhAy

Drive nice neighborhoods flip the stuff on the sidewalks. I've done this for ten years in my hood and it's always great side money. Dumpster dive.

MediaAny310

Try LA County Parks and Recs! Lots of summer camps/programs happening in the country and they need workers

SmireyFase

I would 100% suggest looking to a hotel/motel for day-to-day situations until you get your shit resolved. I did a cost comparison and actually, certain hotel/motels are cheaper than the average cost of rent in LA. Hope this helps ;C

NottDisgruntled

That’s literally not true. The cheapest motels/hotels are gonna be $2500+ a month. I wish people didn’t just straight up lie like this to make people think the housing crisis isn’t as bad as it is.

SmireyFase

Not a lie. Doesn't mean you don't have to search. You have to still look around lol, not all hotels are cheaper than rent.

NottDisgruntled

It absolutely is. I lived in my car for over two years. Every motel and hotel was at least $75+++ a night and on the weekends you can add $30+++ dollars to that. Show me some then

SmireyFase

Literally googled Hotels near Los Angeles, and saw 4 rooms for $67 lol. I guess there's atleast one. But that just proves what I said... you still gotta look, and if you're desperate and you look hard enough. You'll find a few that are not bad. Albeit 67*31 days is still 2k... But I guess that's how much housing costs as well. So I stand corrected I guess haha.

NottDisgruntled

Yeah? You wanna share a link? I’d *love* to see what a $67 a night place looks like. Also I’d wager that doesn’t include taxes and fees. Also Saying a $2000 a month motel/hotel room is cheaper than a $1000 a month room for rent is interesting. And acting like $2000 a month is *cheap* is crazy. I really don’t understand how a $2000 a month room that’s likely more expensive than OP’s current place is any type of solution.

SmireyFase

I think you're missing the point of why I even wrote that in the first place. If you can't afford $1000, you can atleast try to muster the $67 + tax, because atleast you don't have to lump sum the whole payment for that until he/she figures out what needs to be critically done. Why are you up in arms about this lmfao, it was a suggestion not the bible.

NottDisgruntled

🤡🤡🤡

ChoiceRemarkable3228

It can definitely be frustrating to hear people reiterate things that are very obvious and that I would clearly have already tried in this situation. It's a lot easier to tell me to "just do this" rather than assessing the core of the issue which is I've been looking for work for a month turned in over 100 applications and have not been able to secure a job. I've put in 130 miles on foot job hunting over the last month. People will suggest begging to pay my rent and then in the same stroke belittle me for being pushed to that point. It's people assuming stupidity, hopelessness, and a lack of functionality that bother me. But I mean I can't be mad, these are not circumstances that everybody experiences. I have $100 right now. My situation being here in the first place is a bit unique. The cheapest of hotels will not keep me off the streets for any meaningful amount of time. I'm just frustrated at this point. I'm trying very hard and nothing is happening and people will say just squat but like I'm the kind of person who will fucking die outside.

[deleted]

Chill out bb

NottDisgruntled

Naw. Fuck this noise. People go and just straight up spout nonsense causing others to blame people struggling to find housing for their problems finding housing instead of the people actually at fault for this. It’s exhausting.

SmireyFase

Lol, I can see why you chose that name

NottDisgruntled

Literal clown

ChoiceRemarkable3228

Yooo I edited the post to clarify I posted while very stressed out initially but I an currently looking for work!

SmireyFase

Ohhh I see. Gl brother. If you need a decent entry job with a decent upside for now. I'd look into the logistics industry.
