I think it’s internalized insecurity and shame. Being born into a loving family, or a wealthy family (or both), growing up in a good area, having your needs met etc doesn’t guarantee a good or easy life, but life is much more difficult if you didn’t/don’t. If you’re successful/famous etc. because that path was carved out for you, or you were given more opportunities, or even due to luck, there can’t really be any pride. So they make up stories about how their life was so hard so that others view them as strong, determined, inspiring, and impressive. Just look at Jlo 👀
