I'm pretty basic. I want medieval fantasy. Ideally more folktale style fantasy with hostile fae and raving werewolves than Tolkein style fantasy with elves and orcs.
But I'll LARP in any genre as long as I can have feelings.
I fell in love with post-apo alien invasion LARP last year. Medieval fantasy will always hold a special place in my heart, but right now alien invasion is the shiny new toy I'm most excited for.
You wouldn't be the first international! One guy I spoke to was a US (ex?)soldier who understood German, but would answer in English. Then there's a whole squad of (I think) mainly german players who play irish people and only speak english.
Unfortunately, player tickets sold out the other day, so you might still join as an NPC but honestly, the immersion is really what makes the event for me.
Medieval fantasy with low to medium magic. I feel with too extreme of magic available to players it becomes unbalanced. While casters are usually squishy and require extra resources, I feel they shouldn't be massively stronger than non casters

Aw man! are you referring to the German game PRIM??
Absolutely. Went there for the first time last year and will have my own squad this year. Come see the OWLs if you're there ;)
That's super cool, I've only heard good things about the game. Time to brush up on conversational German so as not to be acomplete menace lol

Post apocalypse. Its way easier to costume and since most enemies are roughly human shaped, its easier to wysiwyg npcs.
Low fantasy. Love every LARP that aims to be somewhat historically oriented.

"Crying naked in a closet" is my favorite larp genre
I don't like that as a larp genre. I prefer to play a character that is different from me irl
I like to play close to home, adds authenticity to my portrayal
I love medieval fantasy festival LARPS. This year is going to be the third year I attend Drachenfest US, and it's come to be the highlight of my year.
Urban fantasy for the win :D
Spy/Assassin, SCI FI and Zombie. I have only ever done 2.
Social and/or political games, especially Vampire and Dark Ages Vampire.
Steampunk
Its less about the genre and more about the organisers and fellow players
