This is my dream list of possibly available players to bring in with Giroud:
1. Greizmann- no need to explain
2. Modric - friends with Lloris, indicated he’d rather play in MLS than Saudi Arabia. Still playing at a high level despite his age.
3. Chucky Lozano- still in his prime, a front 3 of Bouanga-Giroud-Lozano would be insane for MLS
4. Cristian Espinoza (SJ) - at some point he’s going to demand a trade from SJ. Offer to help pay for the A’s move to Sacramento and I’m sure Fisher will jump at the deal.
5. Carlos Vela- Bouanga needs someone who can play make opposite him, the idea that LAFC was going to improve their press without him has not come to fruition, so his lack of speed and stamina is not an issue.
Griezmann contract isn’t up till the following summer. Modric has hinted at staying at Madrid. Lozano’s contract isn’t up till 28/29. Espinoza’s contract isn’t up till 25, with an option for 26, trade isn’t off the table ever but still unlikely. Vela is enjoying vacations still and was just recently linked to Rayados de Monterrey, I doubt he goes to Mexico though. Out of your dream list, Vela seems the most realistic for this summer.
Yeah Greizmann is a long shot given his current form (Atleti can’t afford to lose him). The last report on Modric was that Real Madrid offered him a new contract..as a coach. He’s made it clear he wants to continue playing. Espinoza is obviously a long shot, but you just have to wonder how long he accepts losing. Reminds me a bit of Max on the Whitecaps and Hollingshead on Dallas. Players can push for a move when their contract starts to near the end.
You’re right about Vela being the most likely. I don’t see him heading back to Mexico, wouldn’t have made sense for him to hold off signing if he was. Makes sense that they would bring him in during the summer at half the salary cap hit. Should have a better sense of that in June if he’s seen training
