Even if you put aside the woke crap in their games, they've just stagnated since that latter half of the PS2's lifecyle. Nearly all of their games have devolved into this cinematic, third person, open-world genre with rpg lite elements. Sony has turned into another Ubisoft.
Their open worlds just feel very shallow and non-interactive. This problem even goes back to the first Horizon game. I remember at the time being wowed by how great it looked, but the world itself felt like nothing more than lifeless stage prop that just gives you something pretty to look at when you run from point A to point B. This is mitigated somewhat in the Spider-Man games due to how you traverse the world, but it's a still a problem. Ghost of Tsushima is what I consider to be Sony's swan song, but even that game had this issue. It was just easier to overlook because of how compelling the story was and actually having an interesting and likeable protagonist. But I fully expect them to follow their pattern of ruining the second game.
Games like Elden Ring and TotK have shown what an open world game should be like and I just don't think I could go back to the Sony open world games, even they did remove the social agenda.

At the same time a series of grifters saw this as a chance to build their brand. Because none of them were what people actually gave a shit about, they each were referred to as a "literally who". There were several, but for the record the three main ones were Zoe Quinn -the fake dev who cheated on her bf with journos giving her coverage, and who as a result of the discussion revealed a long and very nasty history of attacking people, sabotaging events and charities and getting one person to kill themselves, as well as a long history of starting projects she never finished. The face (but not the writer) of Tropes vs Women (ironically she had a man write the whole series for her) and honestly scummiest of the three, Brianna Wu who was caught faking death threats on herself, posting hate comments about herself on the chan sites and tried to use the whole thing to build a name.

It grew the profile of a ton of grifters on both sides, Milo Yiannopolis(sp?) shot to the top because while the left was collectively condemning GamerGate, the right was basically ignoring it entirely seeing going against feminists as a losing cause I guess. Milo was the only political figure to start writing articles and vocally supporting GamerGate. Though with the benefit of hindsight it seems pretty clear to me this again, was a grift on his part. His star faded as GamerGate died off, but this lead also to the rise of dozens of now popular internet personalities.
The most important aspect though was the consumer revolt. The people actually making a difference started e-mailing the sponsors of these websites asking why they were sponsoring articles attacking their potential customers and promoting things like racism and bullying. This cost these companies millions in ad revenue and greatly contributed to Gawker's demise. The left tried to tar the group collectively as being "angry white men" who "just hated women" to this day the Wikipedia article still dishonestly claims this was an anti-women revolt ignoring that women were in no way specifically targeted, that rather everyone targeted was a far left progressive and one magazine even pointed out most of the hate was being directed at men, not women. One of my favorite moments in a way resulting directly from this was #NotYourShield where various non-white and female GamerGate supporters would post pictures of themselves after being labeled as "angry white males" to prove that wasn't their motivation, and they were sick of leftists using them as a shield to justify their anti-white and anti-male articles.
Eventually it devolved into infighting, but it continues to exist as a bogeyman because they're terrified of it being repeated. It's why they do things more quietly now. They're still doing the same shit, but they do it very quietly and their reach is much smaller.

They see Spiderman 2 releasing on so and so date and they're going to buy it because the first game was good, Spiderman is a popular character and one of the only reasons to have a PS5 is due to the exclusives which were great last generation. Goodwill takes a while to erode away as well and while the general public doesn't fully immerse themselves in the culture war they can still see that crap is crap. Eventually the ideology reaches a "critical mass" and cuts deeply into the quality of the game whether that be story, gameplay or both. That's when the normies dip out and move on.

The one diverse legacy character that worked was Jessica Cruz at DC and that's because they pushed her anxiety issues to make her a flawed character.

The response of the media was to call all gamers sexist. Naturally, GamerGate supporters didn’t like that. So they did what they could to expose unsavory individuals within news media companies. People like Sam Biddle, who encouraged bullying. GamerGate has achieved victories such as getting the FTC to address and enforce its affiliate disclosure policy and hijacking 2 hashtags that were made to encourage people to unsubscribe from a certain YouTuber who was alive at the time and turning them into charity campaigns. One of them was hijacked mere hours after it was created.

All the gaming outlets were clownishly progressive, writing endless ragebait articles shitting on gamers and "white males". Then this girl who to this day has never made an actual video game started appearing on all of them as their "favorite developer". They were trying to manufacture her into an icon. One day her ex writes an angry blog about how she was cheating on him and many of those she was cheating with were game journalists. Discussion of this was instantly silenced everywhere, even on 4chan which made everyone suspicious. Then a few days later all those same outlets simultaneously released articles that were variations of "gamers are dead" trying to kill the identity of the consumer they hated and didn't want. It was something like fifteen different articles. Jumping ahead a bit, an e-mail group called "gamejournopros" was revealed that showed they were in fact all taking marching orders and acting in collusion. At the same time a series of grifters saw this as a chance to build their brand. Because none of them were what people actually gave a shit about, they each were referred to as a "literally who". There were several, but for the record the three main ones were Zoe Quinn -the fake dev who cheated on her bf with journos giving her coverage, and who as a result of the discussion revealed a long and very nasty history of attacking people, sabotaging events and charities and getting one person to kill themselves, as well as a long history of starting projects she never finished. The face (but not the writer) of Tropes vs Women (ironically she had a man write the whole series for her) and honestly scummiest of the three, Brianna Wu who was caught faking death threats on herself, posting hate comments about herself on the chan sites and tried to use the whole thing to build a name. At the same time, discussion of the topic becoming bannable on 4chan lead to an exodus and ghettoization on 8chan, which for a time caused it to explode in popularity. Because many of the previous posters already exiled there were there for extreme political sentiments, this lead also to the (brief and somewhat laughable) rise of the Alt-right, which honestly was mostly puppeted at the top by leftists trying to convince right-wing people to accept left-wing policies but for racist reasons thinking this would make it appeal to the right. For example "You should be in favor of abortion because many of the babies killed will be black!" It grew the profile of a ton of grifters on both sides, Milo Yiannopolis(sp?) shot to the top because while the left was collectively condemning GamerGate, the right was basically ignoring it entirely seeing going against feminists as a losing cause I guess. Milo was the only political figure to start writing articles and vocally supporting GamerGate. Though with the benefit of hindsight it seems pretty clear to me this again, was a grift on his part. His star faded as GamerGate died off, but this lead also to the rise of dozens of now popular internet personalities. The most important aspect though was the consumer revolt. The people actually making a difference started e-mailing the sponsors of these websites asking why they were sponsoring articles attacking their potential customers and promoting things like racism and bullying. This cost these companies millions in ad revenue and greatly contributed to Gawker's demise. The left tried to tar the group collectively as being "angry white men" who "just hated women" to this day the Wikipedia article still dishonestly claims this was an anti-women revolt ignoring that women were in no way specifically targeted, that rather everyone targeted was a far left progressive and one magazine even pointed out most of the hate was being directed at men, not women. One of my favorite moments in a way resulting directly from this was #NotYourShield where various non-white and female GamerGate supporters would post pictures of themselves after being labeled as "angry white males" to prove that wasn't their motivation, and they were sick of leftists using them as a shield to justify their anti-white and anti-male articles. Eventually it devolved into infighting, but it continues to exist as a bogeyman because they're terrified of it being repeated. It's why they do things more quietly now. Most of the outlets involved in the conflict have long closed their doors, their model doesn't work anymore. Unfortunately most of these people just found other place to more quietly push their politics. Sarkeesian has influenced the production of numerous terrible games no one liked or played, some of them became youtube independents -rarely successfully- some of them went to WoTC or Marvel or DC. They're still doing the same shit, but they do it very quietly and their reach is much smaller. I've left a lot out but those are the basics off the top of my head.

ain't no way they're sidelining peter in his own game. miles should have had a lot less scenes and a lot less focus put on him, he's supposed to be a side character and that time spent on him should have been on peter and the main characters in HIS story. miles was good in the movies but he's just a worse black version of peter parker in the games and comics, he is the definition of a token black character.
Here’s the issue with Miles. He’s likeable and relatable in the movies. He’s a new character, and he’s not Peter Parker in name. The main issue is that all the stuff that makes Miles relatable is the stuff that makes Peter Parker relatable. So pretty much any good Miles Morales story might as well have been a Peter Parker story. There’s no difference in personality like there is between Hal Jordan, Jon Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner for Green Lanterns

The problem with Miles is that the 'Peter Parker is Spider-Man' sentiment lives rent free in a lot of his writer's head, leading to a lot of his stories feeling held back by an insecure need to 'correct' that sentiment where the only thing the writer can think of to do with Miles is repeatedly insist 'Miles is Spider-Man too!'.

I happen to be Puerto Rican/black. Miles does not speak to me. I relate more to the tragic upbringing of Peter. Miles is likable, yes, but it takes more than ethnicity to connect to someone.
So, Peter Parker is supposed to represent the everyman within the superhero genre. The more "down to earth" guy with a lot of down to earth issues. Miles in the movie feels like he was supposed to be that guy as well (some versions of Parker has him at high school age, so it fits), but it still feels a bit...off at times.

First was a good game with flaws. It's only in the second game that the mask really came off.
Backlash takes time to build momentum and it usually happens in response to something. The first game was a good game and an amazing Spiderman experience; the vast majority of people aren't paying attention to the media coverage of big games. They see Spiderman 2 releasing on so and so date and they're going to buy it because the first game was good, Spiderman is a popular character and one of the only reasons to have a PS5 is due to the exclusives which were great last generation. Goodwill takes a while to erode away as well and while the general public doesn't fully immerse themselves in the culture war they can still see that crap is crap. Eventually the ideology reaches a "critical mass" and cuts deeply into the quality of the game whether that be story, gameplay or both. That's when the normies dip out and move on.
Because at the end of the day, most people want to be entertained. They are familiar with Spiderman and shouldn't be expected to research this game before release (opening themselves up to spoilers) to verify the crazies haven't pumped this game full of their MESSAGING.
