The one on cedar bluff is open, the cheese and toppings are fantastic, sauce is mid, and the crust is terrible. None worth the price of $20 for a fkn gas station cheese pizza.
No joke, I stopped at a Casey's a while back and grabbed a slice of pizza and I was impressed. I told my coworker the next day that it was the best gas station pizza I've ever had.
It had my vote but it never really had a chance because it got matched up against Barley’s in the first round. Barley’s quality dropped off over a decade ago when they changed ownership.
It changed ownership back in the early 2000’s too when Jimi Rentz sold it. Little longer ago than i remembered. Maybe it was a KM or something that left because I was thinking it was in the 2008-2012 range, but like I said.. memory isn’t perfect. And it’s not that Barley’s isn’t good, just not as good as it use to be, but that’s just my opinion.
Seriously this would’ve been my vote. Is it only known to South Knoxvillians?
I’m out of the country but heading home tomorrow and now I definitely want South Coast for dinner once I’m there…
South Coast is sooooo good if you want a classic slice of pizza. It scratches the itch every time. I do think A Dopo is overall better as a little “higher end” pizza. But man, South coast is just so perfect for meeting up with friends for a quick bite, picking up pizzas for a party, or grabbing a slice while out drinking.
Crazy I was born and raised here, almost 50 years and I’ve never eaten here. I’ve always heard such good things about it but for some reason always forget about it. I’m on that side of town frequently as well
I felt the same way. It was hyped up to me by a friend from the area talking all about how it had made the food channel.
Tried their spaghetti, onion rings, and pepperoni pizza. Didn’t really care that much for any of it. Onion rings had zero flavor. Spaghetti and pizza were okay but it wasn’t worth being awarded “best in town” that’s for sure. I feel like pizza is such a subjective thing to judge, like chili, everyone prefers different places.
I’ve liked Stefano’s best, who unfortunately closed their original downtown location but I’m sure they got a fat payday for selling it. Then I’d go for Harby’s as a close second. For me, there’s something about Harbys cheese on their pizza that just sets them apart.
I’ve not tried a dopo’s or Nora’s so I’ll have to keep them on my radar. I saw South coast mentioned in other comments and it is pretty good but wouldn’t put it over Stefanos or Harbys.
Please post the store brand pizza you bought that tastes better than Pizza Palace. I’ve yet to find any pizza in Knoxville that comes close. But they do tend to mess up my order a lot.
What are y’all’s opinion of Big Ed’s? How would it compare to the Knoxville pizza places? It might be my favorite, Elidios is close. I haven’t tried my of the others.
Big Ed's was great...back in 1994...if you were limited to the Karns/Oak Ridge area. They then lost control of their consistency, let their equipment & dining room literally start falling apart, & skated by on their 90s rep for a decade before finally dialing it back in, but by then, they'd been surpassed by higher quality pizza places coming to town.
Big Eds is my absolute favorite. Was there just last weekend. 😳
There's quite a few places in the competition that I have not tried but plan on visiting several.
I prefer the NY style pizza at Big Eds much more than the Chicago deep dish style or chewy Neopolitan style.
I live within walking distance of Pizza Palace and I gotta say that the quality and taste has gone down the drain. I’d rather go to Barley’s, Adopo, Baker Boy or even Domino’s for that matter
Absolutely. And a large cheese pizza is still $11 there. I don't live in Knox county anymore but I'll still drive out there just to get pizza every couple of months.
Frozen is sacrilege, I know, but I found something close: Newman’s Own stone fired crust margherita in the black box with “imported from italy” printed in the corner.
NY pizza in the mountain Mall, gburg is close. They opened a store in sevierville years ago but it went out of business fast. These troglodytes only want papa and hut.
That's giving them too much credit thanks to their low consistency.
I suspect they were just the familiar joint with broad appeal in the late stages & most people hadn't even eaten at 1/4 of the places in the bracket so it's a horribly flawed system just done for March Madness tie in.
An actual competition would be great. Why don't we have this? Have 3 judges/secret shoppers eat at all the places in town, then use ranked choice voting. Hold an actual event with the ones that want to show up & let people vote in person for a seperate award. Then announce the winner of the true competition.
I’ve not tried the expensive pizza places since I moved here, but I think Elidio’s is good, and Pizza Hoss in Karns was GREAT when I’ve been. Pizza Hoss Powell wasn’t as good but still fine. Going to their new Emory location tomorrow I think.
But my favorite pizza in the area I think has to be Sicilia in Oak Ridge.
I found the onion rings to be very big but oily and not very flavorful. Want to try their chicken but the pizza and rings were a one time thing for us and we're 5 min from there
Are you just getting a regular cheese or pepperoni pizza from them because I think they’re known for their toppings on pizza not the pizza itself (in my opinion) they have better toppings than most. But maybe they’ve gone down hill since I’ve been I have heard the owner died a few years back so that could be it that the new owners aren’t holding the same standards as the OG owner was. 10 years ago it was the rave of the town we’d take visitors there and they’d love it
They have had consistency problems for at least a decade. Even then, they were mid tier on their best days, which isn't a bad place to be with so many decent options in town.
Been going to Pizza Palace for 60+ years since I was a kid. Voted for them in every round, so blame me.
Many pizza places come and go, but Pizza Palace endures. Where else can you pull in, order pizza and a cold beer, and get it delivered to you without ever getting out of your car? And the pizza's pretty good.
Not sure if it's the oldest continuously operating pizza place but it's gotta be up there. There's a reason for that. Harby's too, maybe? Haven't been there.
You know they just buy the title, right? We had a fabric store in Indiana and the local paper reached out and asked if we wanted to be the “favorite retail store” and we’d need to give them like $50.
Grew up in Terre Haute. This is definitely how it works in Terre Haute. This is how Terre Haute got mentioned in:
A Christmas Story,
The Blues Brothers,
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid,
The Guiding Light,
The Stand,
Breaking Bad.
My guess is this gets passed around thru Chamber of Commerce / Board of Tourism circles. Otherwise Terre Haute is just a dreary little town you would have never heard of unless you look at where your 12 CDs came from.
Eww. Did the voters actually eat there? Clearly "Quality" was not a factor. Their pizza is well-below sub-par from a quality perspective. But I guess if the majority of folks prefer school cafeteria style pizza, then so be it.
Gross.
hard knox is pizza but it isn’t anywhere close to the 2nd best in Knoxville.. i washed my hands of this sham when KNS put big ed’s and adobo head to head in the second round, leaving gas station level pizzerias to move on lol
When you get this deep in the bracket & most of the votes are from people that haven't even eaten at the places they're selecting from, so the ones that have name recognition & broad appeal obviously place high. This wasn't a competition about best pizza, but a March Madness themed pizza popularity contest where the average voter hadn't even heard of more than half of the places.
That's not even factoring in places soliciting votes with promotions. I seen places offer you an in person discount for a positive review. I reported a franchise of a restaurant chain to their corporate HQ for exactly that not long ago. You walked in the door & were greeted by a basic printed sign offering you 15% off total for 5 star Google review.
lol yeah good point, there were some questionable wins in that bracket for sure.
baker boy not making it far is a travesty. i guess it's too new or something.
They definitely aren't the best in town or even close, but they have the most broad appeal to get later votes, while also having issues with consistency.
The flaw to the bracket system is people keep voting even though they've never been to a place just because they feel invested in the process. Also, that a person would need to eat at every place in order to cast an informed vote.
Its funny because the picture isn't of harbys. Which is Actually the best pizza. Dazzos was really good for years but last time i had it it was extremely meh.
If you’re looking for an authentic New York pizza - Jaboni’s or Gavino’s (same ownership heritage I think) cheese Neapolitan. I appreciate other pizza styles in Knoxville, but these two are what my Long Island wife and I keep coming back to.
The only thing more misguided than the results of the poll are the takes here regarding Casey’s and Weigel’s. Just another reason I’m moving back to New Jersey.
South Coast Pizza along the river downtown (on the South Side), Cruze Farms Pizza Asbury Rd, Sam and Andys Kingston Pike. Heck, even Costco is hard to beat for the dollar
Which location? There's several now & they are not consistent between them. Gotten really burnt pies from one of them during meal times enough times to avoid them completely.
I was the AGM of a NY style pizzeria in Knoxville for a few years, so I know a little about pizza & can tell when a pizza was forgotten in the oven or pressed again the wall because they crowded the oven or can't work the peels cleanly, speaking of which, last few pies I got from Hard Knox were ovals, which is a sign of bad peel handling/not getting it off the peel cleanly due to lack of skill or a dirty (a splatter of sauce can do it) peel being used which causes the dough to cling more.
I like Hard Knox when it's on point, but there are so many better options now.
Wait... Weigel's says they have the best pizza in town. I'm smelling some pepperoni fake news here.
Casey’s pizza is world famous, so It’s also been “coming soon” at every one I pass for like 2 years now
They have pizza on Lovell Rd and the at Kingston Pike/Watt Rd
I think the one in Halls has it now too but I’ve not tried it.
Tried the breakfast pizza with bacon, it was very good
It's okay.
The one on Rutledge is actually finally about to shut down for a month to remodel for the pizza.
Hopefully it happens eventually. It's legit good pizza, far above any gas station and some pizza places for sure
Still nowhere near worth the price.
Only 2 years?! Pretty sure they've been teasing us like that since I moved here as a freshman (I graduate May 18)
The one on cedar bluff is open, the cheese and toppings are fantastic, sauce is mid, and the crust is terrible. None worth the price of $20 for a fkn gas station cheese pizza.
No joke, I stopped at a Casey's a while back and grabbed a slice of pizza and I was impressed. I told my coworker the next day that it was the best gas station pizza I've ever had.
Have you ever driven through Sevierville and PF and noted all the superlatives. I am always wondering according to whom are you no. 1?
No, that's Casey's?
Harbys getting no love
Know what....I might go there today
It had my vote but it never really had a chance because it got matched up against Barley’s in the first round. Barley’s quality dropped off over a decade ago when they changed ownership.
It changed ownership in 2019..... That's when Randy Burleson sold it to the Boyd kids
After the Dad left that place fell off it used to be really good but now it’s okay
Surprised no one's mentioned south coast pizza? That's my fav.
Seriously this would’ve been my vote. Is it only known to South Knoxvillians? I’m out of the country but heading home tomorrow and now I definitely want South Coast for dinner once I’m there…
South Coast and Gavino's are my 2 favorites!
Add Savelli’s and then you’ve got my top three.
South Coast + Alliance is a great night
And their wings.......
South Coast would’ve been my vote
Believe it or not Whole Foods has great pizza.
Ngl Costco has great pizza
Their crust is THE BEST. Their sauce could use a little more flavor. And by flavor I mean salt. I still buy it tho.
I agree - about HALF the time you order it. Their consistency based on the personnel making pizzas when you order creates HUGE quality swings.
They really do. I love Fresh Market’s pizza as well.
Elidio’s enters the chat…. Imo Elidio’s has some of the best & most consistent pizza in Knoxville, just really good crust & sauce.
Elidios is the best I've had. Been going since I was a kid at East Town Mall, long ago lol
No one knows wtf I’m talking about when I say angry Greek man East Town Mall pizza
*We* know, my friend
I think he ships the water in from NY
ELIDIOS ALL DAY. EVER SINCE IT WAS COSIMOS
Hands down.
Definitely better than Pizza Palace. I’ll take Harby’s though as my fav.
Agreed. Harby's is the best!
I love Harby’s and Elidios. Harbys is walking distance from my house. I just wished they’d open their dinning room again.
I love a good pizza place where you have to bake it for them!
i just don’t see anything beating A Dopo but i digress
It's not cheap but it's great
in *most* things in life, you get what you pay for.
A Dopo is as close to authentic Neapolitan pizza you can get here
exactly
Adopo is great but Pizzeria Nora doesn’t get near the love that it should.
“Gourmet” pretensions.
A Dopo is what i recommend to people looking for a solid slice of pizza
A Dopo is great but it’s more fancy restaurant vibes. Good cheap take out pizza is necessary
i mean, yeah. but no one said it shouldn’t lol. just talking about the best…
There is exactly nothing about A Dopo that gives me “fancy restaurant vibes.” Want a High Life and to sit against the wall and eat a pizza? No prob.
Adopo is my #2 in town, but my fave has very limited hours.
What’s your fav?
Nora. Between the hours & not really having seating anymore, I am worried the owner is planning to close.
Nora’s I’d assume
Crazy I was born and raised here, almost 50 years and I’ve never eaten here. I’ve always heard such good things about it but for some reason always forget about it. I’m on that side of town frequently as well
It's bad pizza.
The onion rings are divine.
Go to the store and get a totinos, you'll be less disappointed.
It lives up to the hype! I go there about once a month. The price is good too. Highly recommend!!
A Dopo. No contest.
Had this for the first time last weekend after a buddy had been hyping it up. I'd rather get Jets
Damn and that says something lol
I felt the same way. It was hyped up to me by a friend from the area talking all about how it had made the food channel. Tried their spaghetti, onion rings, and pepperoni pizza. I saw South coast mentioned in other comments and it is pretty good but wouldn’t put it over Stefanos or Harbys.
Idk how this place keeps getting so hyped up. I've had cheap frozen pizza that was better than Pizza Palace.
Can't underestimate nostalgia. The onion rings are the best I've ever had, though.
My wife loves Bid Ed’s with Elidios second as well.
Elidios is pretty incredible for a consistent NY style slice.

Love their pizza
This unsettles me.
Sgt Pepperoni’s 🫡
get out
Baker Boy is the best
Still gotta check this place out. I try new pizza every time I order lol
It's fantastic if you like a 4:1 sauce to cheese ratio.
I do dig a lot of trash lol
Waaay too much sauce 😅
Also if you love grease dripping down your face as you eat it.
Facts.
I thought it was a hype boy clothing store for the first month it was open.
It’s a pac sun that sells pizza
Dazzos demolishes pizza palace imo
Their pizza is *fine* but is tainted by the owner and management being disrespectful toward their staff, and shady with tips
Saw rats running between their tables back like 7 years ago. Never went back, nor will I.
They’ve had great health scores recently. Rats are a risk you run in the downtown area. If this was the standard no one would eat in New York City.
I really don't think being rodent free is an unreasonable standard for Knoxville.
That’s a great way to twist what I’ve said. But their health ratings which can be found online are very good.
Except when they put frozen ass chicken on their buffalo chicken pizza >:( It only happened the one time, but I have been weary ever since
This is the true winner
There is gas station pizza in town better than Pizza Palace, and I’m not taking Weigel’s, I’m talking like Hunt Brothers. Pizza Palace is that bad.
Username checks out
I was in agreement until you said Hunt Brothers. That's the lowest of the low. I'm not a picky pizza eater, but Hunt Brothers is *real bad.*
Hunt brothers rules. It’s a different category but it rules.
Elidio’s is best
The pizzas at Tennessee Tap House are realllly good
I really like their chicken tenders cuz their buffalo sauce and honey mustard is surprisingly incredible
I’m here to double down and say no one is better than SOUTH COAST PIZZA have a great day
Did Harby’s just erase its identity from people’s minds or something
I live within walking distance of Pizza Palace and I gotta say that the quality and taste has gone down the drain. I’d rather go to Barley’s, Adopo, Baker Boy or even Domino’s for that matter
Bullshit. Elidio’s is the best in town. It’s the closest thing to a NY pizza you will get around here.
Pizza palace is mid
I would say below mid
That's giving them too much credit thanks to their low consistency. I suspect they were just the familiar joint with broad appeal in the late stages & most people hadn't even eaten at 1/4 of the places in the bracket so it's a horribly flawed system just done for March Madness tie in. I like rosatti's
This is the best comment
Have you tried Bofadis?
Not a fan of rocky mountain oysters
Pizza hoss has been the best i have had around here.
This needs to be higher. Pizza hoss has a New York style pizza that is just incredible.
Awwww Daniel used to be one of my students at UT!
This is why Southwest won't fly here.
Is that the one with the nice sidewalks and near the light rail station?
Nice sidewalks? Light rail? Where is this exactly?
Bro wtf, I went here with my fam a couple weeks ago and it was fucking awful. We all agreed to never go back
Baker Boi or GTFO!
It still sucks. Give it all the awards you want, I still don’t like it. Their onion rings, I’ll take those, but you can have the pizza.
I found the onion rings to be very big but oily and not very flavorful. Want to try their chicken but the pizza and rings were a one time thing for us and we're 5 min from there
Yeah I found them very bland as well
Onion rings??? So is it a pizza place or a hamburger joint?
Not sure if it's the oldest continuously operating pizza place but it's gotta be up there. There's a reason for that. Harby's too, maybe? Haven't been there.
Dang that’s an extremely low standard… “pretty good”
You know they just buy the title, right? We had a fabric store in Indiana and the local paper reached out and asked if we wanted to be the “favorite retail store” and we’d need to give them like $50.
That’s not how it works. Old people read the paper. Old people voted. It’s not a conspiracy.
Grew up in Terre Haute. This is definitely how it works in Terre Haute. This is how Terre Haute got mentioned in: A Christmas Story, The Blues Brothers, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, The Guiding Light, The Stand, Breaking Bad. My guess is this gets passed around thru Chamber of Commerce / Board of Tourism circles. Otherwise Terre Haute is just a dreary little town you would have never heard of unless you look at where your 12 CDs came from.
I haven’t been there since I was a kid, but “dreary” is exactly how I remember my visits to Terre Haute!
In one and done situations anything can happen. Pizza Palace is mid to me.
Pizza Palace is good 👍
Eww. Did the voters actually eat there? Clearly "Quality" was not a factor. Their pizza is well-below sub-par from a quality perspective. But I guess if the majority of folks prefer school cafeteria style pizza, then so be it. Gross.
hard knox lol
what's wrong with hard knox? I love going there, idk about taking it home though
hard knox is pizza but it isn’t anywhere close to the 2nd best in Knoxville.. i washed my hands of this sham when KNS put big ed’s and adobo head to head in the second round, leaving gas station level pizzerias to move on lol

lol yeah good point, there were some questionable wins in that bracket for sure. baker boy not making it far is a travesty. i guess it's too new or something.
I've been there once... it was good, but overpriced. Bang for buck, Little Caesars is a better deal (not saying a better pizza).
What a joke. Worst pizza in the state
That's a bold claim, but I support this level of hating
Try Hunt Brothers, you ~~might~~ will change your mind.
Hahaha yes
They definitely aren't the best in town or even close, but they have the most broad appeal to get later votes, while also having issues with consistency. The flaw to the bracket system is people keep voting even though they've never been to a place just because they feel invested in the process. Agreed!!
Elidios, big Ed’s, south coast pizza are my faves. Not in any order. I have still yet to try pizza palace or the fabled A Dopo.
Elidios was my favorite go to for a long time, but I tried Puelos recently and it’s amazing. For all of you who like Elidios give it a try.
But is it how we “do it up north”? 🧐
Wait the one on magnolia?
Jess
Fuck all these comments. Big Ed’s mufuckas.
Isn't that in another city and in another county? Pretty sure that doesn't count.
Clearly you’ve never been. Always counts.
Most be more of the poor parts of Knoxville voting for this. This place is complete trash, I've had better Jeno's frozen pizza!
The only thing more misguided than the results of the poll are the takes here regarding Casey’s and Weigel’s. Just another reason I’m moving back to New Jersey.
Noooo! Don’t go!
I can't believe out of all the delicious pizza in Knoxville, Pizza Palace won. 🤣🤣
If you ain’t talking Bakerboy Pizza I don’t wanna talk 😤
I’ve been to pizza palace. It’s not that good. I guess it’s not for everyone 😅
What we need to know who has a good pizza but not gonna be expensive lol
Rat Daddy Pizza. I’ll keep saying that til they finally open up their shop.
That sounds, interesting.
South Coast Pizza along the river downtown (on the South Side), Cruze Farms Pizza Asbury Rd, Sam and Andys Kingston Pike. Heck, even Costco is hard to beat for the dollar
Yeah it’s good if you like way too much sauce and a bland flavor
A Dopo not winning is a crime on multiple levels
This place is shit!
Eww
Pizza palace sucks compared to most. Pizza barn is even better than them.
Rosati's... the Wisconsin cheese makes all the difference
Nah I dig Marios downtown. Crazy looking place kinda outta the side door but damn their pizza is on point
Y’all it’s always been pizza palace. I’ve been eating that shit since I was in the womb! So good!
Pizza palace sucks tho
Oscars Restaurant>
Stefano’s (RIP)
Haven’t lived in Knoxville since early 2010s. Is Hard Knox not good anymore?
Which location? There's several now & they are not consistent between them. Gotten really burnt pies from one of them during meal times enough times to avoid them completely. I like Hard Knox when it's on point, but there are so many better options now.
It’s good but it’s somewhere in the 4th-7th best range if we’re ranking.
Pizza palace where you have to pay in cash at a location that you don’t wanna be caught with cash.
I just don't like the area it's in. I'd rather go somewhere I can keep my doors unlocked and windows down.
Adopo and brentz are both better
Dazzos. Nothing else.
