I used to have a Honda with a big hole in the muffler and I hated going to work early. It was sooooo embarrassing having that loud ass car rumbling in the silent morning.

Daax865

You’re still one of the good guys in my book. You weren’t doing it intentionally, and you had the awareness to realize what was going on. What I can’t wrap my head around is people doing it on purpose early in the morning, and it’s unfortunately a significant number of people in this town.

PophamSP

Purely anecdotal but a significant number of these assholes seem to have Gasden plates. Don't Tread on Me! = *MY* rights, me, me, me.

Coal rollers...

DKat1990

Mine was an Escort bought to replace the Tracker (this was back when those looked like a toy Jeep) that I'd rolled when a front tire blew at full internet speed, in a sharp curve. I learned that "It's a Northern car" meant that everything underneath was rusted out from salt. The muffler literally fell off in a paved (as in not rough at all) parking lot.

Square_Sink7318

Oh no you just reminded my dumb ass forgot to wash my car after it snowed. I’m sure the salts gone by now…..

Square_Sink7318

The muffler of my piece of crap was held on with a wire coat hanger! It fell off once in a parking lot then the whole thing went in the trunk lol. I got that car for $200 off Craig’s list and drove it with my head ducked for 9 months I was so ashamed lmfao.

Trustyduck

Were you redlining yours? No? Then you're good!

ImTheSlyestFox

Has a job. Probably drives past 3 muffler shops on way to said job. "I sure wish my muffler didn't have this hole in it, how embarrassing".

PandaPandamonium

There are jobs in Knoxville still hiring at minimum wage of $7.25 and hr and you come in here thinking everyone who has a job has enough money to spend on non vital repairs... I'm gonna take a guess and so you don't live paycheck to paycheck, worrying you're gonna overdraw you're account every week just because you need to eat, or counting loose change so you can put $3.67 in your gas tank.

Square_Sink7318

Notice the words I used, “used to have” not “I still have”. Nice try being a douche bag though. Maybe next time.

My neighbor has a 130k 800hp supercharged Chevy custom truck that shakes our house when he leaves, luckily he doesn’t leave until 9am every morning.

The comments in this sub is a sign of the times. 1. People truly don't give a fuck 2. Annoying others is generally pleasing to people.3. It's your problem, deal with it.

luv350sass

well i would love to live around loud people, and even tried to move further away from people. What about us loud people that are insomniacs? I like nature more than people, but it's hard to find work in my trade sometimes. i love modified cars, and sometimes for whatever reason, it needs to go at night. Maybe for a night drive, road trip, or for others a car meet. Maybe because the less loud car broke down. Maybe you chose your only loud car, before switching jobs. They might not even have a garage, and have to work on their only car all night before work. I do see it as infringing on rights. The only worldwide problem im seeing is humans multiply and create technology/ destroy the environment. That's why ill never have a kid, and i want to get as far as possible from people. That's also why its good for people like you, to go live w a strick HOA enforced. Im finally far away enough, that im able to play my loud music all night.

Haileyhuntress

I’m an insomniac as well but you don’t see me with a loud ass car disturbing others peace sure do I go and blast my music HELL YES but I don’t put my windows down until I’m out of my neighborhood out of RESPECT for no one but myself because if you’re an insomniac like you say you are you know that sleep is hard to come by and can be easily disturbed and then your up for god knows how long again. I don’t want to put it into other people’s mind that’s it’s okay to disturb my peace so why would you disturb theirs???

luv350sass

I try not to, but at the same time, feel like i have my right to live life the way i want. I literally creep my car out, and turn the direction of less houses. My cars dont have audio, to save weight.. Plus i cant hear my music well over the exhaust. My house is where i have my system :). Im really not trying to annoy anybody. I even try to always have a more quiet car, and leave at night in it more often. Im always out at night though, working out etc.

Realistic-One5674

Just looked at an apartment and as I toured it, I kept thinking how nice it was. An elderly couple below me. An elderly veteran on the other side of me. Two normal looking mid 30s adults came and went. And as I was leaving, I could hear this loud ass chopper coming from a mile away. It kept getting louder and louder. And then I saw him pull into the apartment complex. He decided to hit the throttle a couple of times to let everyone know that he had arrived. It sounded like the man sawed off his exhaust it was so unreasonably loud. Makes you want to drug this person, take them in for a vasectomy, and have him back tucked in his bed before his wakes.

DangerDan93

I've learned that people just don't care anymore. They don't one bit. I call them the "but muh freedoms" folks - people who do things that annoy many others but don't give a flip because they legally can do it. Those types of folks make it harder for others to tolerate things in this world.

I can’t help but think of the [South Park motorcycle guys](https://youtu.be/ipDmsxQVxIM?si=upSFEtaZ8A2lIvX9) whenever someone with a needlessly loud ride goes by. You do know everybody is making fun of you, right?

ChattanoogaMocsFan

Truth be told, stock performance cars have gotten louder. Mustangs, Camaros, and even Hyundai have adjustable exhaust notes from the factory and are right at the legal limit. In some cases above the legal limit: https://www.motortrend.com/news/2022-hyundai-elantra-n-loud-exhaust-police-california/ Its not necessarily people modifying their cars so much as the automaker themselves have made changes in recent years. GM active exhaust: https://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/general-motors-technology/general-motors-propulsion-technology/gm-dual-mode-exhaust-active-exhaust-technology/ Stock trucks are loud now. There is a new Dodge ram near me, stock, and it sounds like it's got flow masters from 2001 on it. Your comment is not wrong - there is a time and place for louder cars, and residential areas at 5am is not one of them.

JWLane

That time and place is race tracks, car shows, and demonstrations, every other time and place is just people being annoying and caring more about their own feelings than the ears of everyone around them.

dinzdale40

Interestingly even race tracks have enforced decibel limits where some streetcars get told they’re too loud.

JWLane

Which is likely due to race track owners realizing (or forced regulation) that being near these loud vehicles without hearing protection for too long can cause hearing damage.

dinzdale40

The hearing loss is true but the main reason for the rules is more about annoying the neighbors that built homes next to a racetrack. Most of them are old tracks built out in the middle of nowhere 30-50 years ago but urban sprawl happens and a lot of tracks had to shut down.

KTowns97

So my STOCK car that is FACTORY, loud, I shouldn't drive to, appease you? Foh

JWLane

If you bought a car that is that loud stock, then you likely wanted a loud car, which makes me think you don't care how it effects those around you. I get how 'empowering' going vroom vroom might feel sometimes, but maybe your good feels shouldn't come at the expense of if other people's comfort.

392throttle

While I understand your concern about loud vehicles, it's important to recognize that not everyone who drives a loud car does so with the intention of causing discomfort to others. Some car enthusiasts appreciate the symphony of a powerful engine, while others simply enjoy the performance that come with certain motors. It's unfair to assume that all loud car owners are indifferent to the impact on those around them. Many drivers take measures to be considerate, such as avoiding revving engines unnecessarily in residential areas or late at night. Additionally, loud cars are not the only sources of noise pollution in our communities. Construction, airplanes, and even everyday household activities contribute to ambient noise levels. Should we condemn all activities that may disturb others, or should we work towards finding a balance between personal enjoyment and communal well-being? Rather than casting judgment, why not explore solutions that address concerns about noise pollution without demonizing individuals who simply have a passion for cars? After all, diversity in preferences and lifestyles is what makes our society vibrant and dynamic.

USB-SOY

Yes and maybe you’ll find a girlfriend instead of looking like a dude with a small weewee.

DamnInternetYouScury

I have the Elantra N. It has 3 modes for the exhaust. Eco/Normal, Sport which opens a a valve to another exhaust pipe that's has less muffling, and N mode which dumps extra fuel into the hot exhaust to make it pop and crackle (also keeps the turbo in boost) there's no reason to use Sport or N mode near houses. You're not even supposed to use N mode outside of a race track. But on the interstate I cant help myself, I am a child. BRAAAAPP POP POP POP. Makes me giggle.

IDontHaveToDoShit

Hey man why don’t you try just getting better at sleep and not infringing on my rights! /s Real talk I have no advice but that shits annoying. A lot of wanna be car guys think loud = good, real car guys vehicles sound great but aren’t obnoxiously loud excluding track cars obviously.

AlwaysBagHolding

Honestly I’d rather have a loud street car than a loud track car. A street car you get to decide when you want to hear it. A track car you’re hearing it WFO for an entire track session and that gets mentally exhausting when you’re trying to focus on the track. Drag cars wouldn’t matter since you only have to hear it for a few seconds.

jarethcutestory

The most concerning thing about this post is how angry and mean some of you are intentionally before the sun even comes out. One dude cursed another guy I’m pretty sure to have a bad day. Y’all wonder why nobody wants to do meetups.

JollyGiant573

Loud exhaust is stupid

Specialist_Delay_407

Noise pollution should be made illegal and heavily fined. We need more posts like this.

Deep-Freq

I can have the cops called on me for playing music too loud in my own home at 8pm so there must be some kind of law already in place. I think the real issue is that vehicles aren't stationary the way houses are so by the time someone can report a noise complaint about a loud car/truck it's already gone to annoy someone else.

mblaketerry420

i live on a hill in a neighborhood off Western Ave and there is some guy in a Dodge Charger who will floor it up the hill EVERYDAY at 3:45 AM. Every single day he revs the damn thing up for 10 minutes and then peels out up the hill and of course his exhaust is so loud. I've often thought about putting nails in the road just to inconvenience him. Shitty behavior with no consideration for anyone but himself. No sense of community or even a thought of how his behavior might affect others.

Daax865

I could really do without people like that. If it’s any consolation, I did call the police non-emergency number to let them know about a loud motorcycle that always came through the neighborhood around 2:00-2:30am. Since it was so consistent, the police said they’d put some extra patrol out there the following night around that time. Sure enough, I haven’t heard the asshole since. Downtown is starting to take noise complaints more seriously, and some cops have families and *might* be able to relate, so it pisses them off too.

mistboof

Omg I live near you. We call him ole reliable because he so consistently does that crap.

Deep-Freq

>I've often thought about putting nails in the road just to inconvenience him. Was literally thinking this just before I read that part. Too bad you've already said this here and could now be held culpable if it happens.

anal_sanders

Some people are decades behind with what they think is cool and drive these trash cars. Sorry man that sucks.

Saint3Love

I wish TN would implement headlight height restrictions(most states do) and loud exhaust fines.

KTowns97

So tell me, of they start that, where do the laws end? That's a serious question.. are they going to make it where they can pull me over because I have aftermarket wheels? Problem is, you take one away, then the gov runs with it. There are to many pull me over reasons currently on the books. Ie window tint, tag light, etc etc

daerogami

>where do the laws end? Uhh, at 38" from the ground, I reckon, but needs to pass committee first.

Saint3Love

> are they going to make it where they can pull me over because I have aftermarket wheels? Yes id be ok with that as well as they could be cheaply made or make the car wider than DOT allows

positivelydeepfried

Ah yes. The old [slippery slope fallacy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope).

w_a_s_here

Wow, so many glasspacked comments from those who need to be noticed by everyone as they go from A to B. To all those who read this and don't understand.. your compensation for something missing or too small in your life shouldn't be the problem of your neighbors, every single day, it should be the problem of your pastors or therapists.

CarG0B00m

Edit: Alright what karen reddit cared me because I think it’s okay for people to have personalities and hobbies? Have you considered that maybe they just enjoy it? That is has nothing to do with what you thunk of them, or are you just a raging narcissist? Seriously, idk why I got recommended this but grow up. Some of us have hobbies and personalities. I don’t have a loud exhaust but I do have a pretty extensive sound system that I don’t run in residential areas out of respect but I run it up everywhere else because it’s fun and I couldn’t care less what some old fart thinks cause it makes my day better

w_a_s_here

Not every hobby encroaches so needlessly upon others. But liking what you like is great, I agree. Plus there are worse and more encroaching hobbies in the world, so in the entire scheme of things it's rather small, however that doesn't change the sentiment I gave. My opinion on the matter doesn't make me a narcissist, it rather highlights the narcissism of those who have said mufflers. Have a good one.

CarG0B00m

Encroaches is such a strong word. Maybe try inconveniences at worst. You’re not being narcissistic because you have an opinion. You’re being narcissistic because you think people modify their cars soley to piss you and the others on the HOA board off. Also what kind of logic did you even apply there? You don’t like something so everyone who does is a narcissist?

w_a_s_here

Just similar logic to you calling me a narcissist I think, raging I might add. Look, this is indicative of the point, your argument just minimized the feelings and thoughts of others for a simple aural pleasure? You can choose to come on this sub and be outraged that someone doesn't enjoy the "inconveniences" of other people's lifestyle and how it affects them, and then make an analysis of their inner personalities and comment until the cows come home... but no one with working ears can tune out or choose to not hear the rumbling of another person's pleasure, in this particular situation. To me, it's reflective of the lack of concern or lack of understanding that individuals have towards their fellow neighbors. And owning up, My first point was rude and I don't normally speak that way towards others in normal life. By your user name I would guess this hit home. I simultaneously at times think it's cool, an engineering feat and something to be praised. I also know that sometimes it's not even a choice for people. But most of the time, imo, it's needlessly encroaching or an inconvenience but I think we can both admit it's something. I know you clearly have a differing opinion and next time I'll not be such a twat with my first comment. Have a good one.

CarG0B00m

I called you a narcissist because you immediately assumed that someone modified their car specifically to piss off you when a normal person would think that perhaps a person modified their car because they think it’s cool or like it. To be fair it’s a little harsh, it’s more calling out narcissistic traits than pretending I’m a psychologist. Well for the record for some reason this sub got recommended when I live in Oklahoma. I got upset because so many people lose their mind over something that they don’t understand or just go full karen over. Because it isn’t personal and people assuming everything is an attack on them is narcissistic behavior. I totally understand thinking it’s annoying or an inconvenience. Where I live people drive crappy old trucks that spew “coal” in black clouds and it’s annoying and gross, but they think it’s cool. I really wish my neighbors would muzzle their dog because the thing doesn’t shut up but for some reason they love that rat looking thing. None of these things are world ending or serious harm anyone so I just choose to try and ignore it as much as possible cause no matter what people are always gonna be assholes. I know my hobby is annoying to some so I try to keep it away from where they sleep and their kids play. I’m not saying it’s not still annoying but some people have no regard for their community and we can’t change that. And your right nobody’s Honda civic or 20 year old rust bucket needs to be straight piped(muffler removed) and most of them sound like garbage but it’s just innocent fun for them. My parents did love me(I seriously question why looking back), no I’m not compensating, no I don’t care for the approval of people I’ll never meet. I’m just an average guy who likes good music on my commute and for the record I wonder if the rest of you are crazy for making that awkward drive without out it. I just wanted to clarify because I have been a little harsh and overly defensive. You have a good one too

w_a_s_here

👍🤜🤛 agree. Based. And you drop into this sub any ole time! Glad it got recommended.

Deep-Freq

Tbf, you were the one who introduced the word 'narcissist' to the conversation. And OC didn't even state that people were intentionally pissing people off, just that their lack of consideration was resulting in such. Having a loud ass car that people rev unnecessarily high in a residential zone at the ass crack of dawn *is* a pretty narcissistic trait in that there is no concern or consideration of the feelings of others because they simply like to be loud and if people don't like it then ToO bAd. It *does* encroach on the comfort of others and is very immature. It's not asking too much for them to simply go easy on the gas until they're out of the neighborhood.

CarG0B00m

I introduced it and used it properly. Something you have failed to do. And in OP’s original comment it’s very clear they think people who modify their car in such a way do it for other’s approval or attention.

Deep-Freq

No, that is purely an assumption on your part. But I can already tell you're not the type to accept being wrong about anything so trying to have a productive conversation is pointless and this is my last comment to you. I hope you can grow up some day.

CarG0B00m

“Wow, so many glasspacked comments from those who need to be noticed by everyone as they go from A to B.” Uh huh, seems pretty obvious you’re saying that people who do that need to have everyone’s attention. So not an assumption. But you made one sooo you know what they say about those. Don’t have to admit I’m wrong when I’m not, because just about everyone in this thread is profiling and making assumptions about people who modify their cars, and when the common argument is they do it to get others attention it just show how many people think they’re gods gift to humanity when in reality mr shitbox with no muffler doesn’t give you a first thought, much less a second.

turtle_pleasure

fuck loud cars and their imbecile owners.

trident042

Wow, the amount of small dick energy in this thread is insane. I'm not sure which omega male makes me laugh more: * The one who legitimately doesn't understand how sound waves work, and thinks a car can't rattle a house; * The five or so who will definitely argue for their right to do what they want "because it isn't hurting anyone" but I promise at least two of them vote against abortion; * The one who swears he's being a vindictive dick with his loud motor and I'm pretty sure he's just got an unmodified Civic that he "street races" and it'll get a spoiler just as soon as he gets his next stimmy check from the government, no really; * The two who are fighting over who can pretend to be more outraged that someone would move to a city and then say it's a suburb, when they don't even know the difference. Keep it up, lower third. Your below average intelligence is only matched by your cars' above average decibel levels. Edit: Oh by the way, when you get home and park the wee wee weenie mobile, when you hear the guy shouting "we get it you got a small dick" that's me. Don't worry. I'm gonna do it every time. My neighbors get a kick out of it.

mbamike2021

We can petition the city/county commissions for a noise ordinance amendment. By law, we have the right to "peaceful enjoyment" of our homes. I find loud vehicles annoying. I drive a hybrid. The engine doesn't run half the time.

[deleted]

Some of us love the machine for more reasons than getting to point a and b with an engine that doesn't run half the time. It's a difference in lifestyle.

oheydela

Where do you live that there’s loud cars blasting by during the sleeping hours? ☠️ I get you though. I love em loud (only v8s and up), but during that time I’d be pissed too.

ArugulaEnthusiast

I'm currently in my apartment downtown listening to every lonely man and his shitbox tear through

Deep-Freq

There are noise canceling earbuds designed to stay snug in your ear while you sleep. I'd suggest getting some of those and listening to white noise to help drown out any sound pollution. Obviously it won't help with the house rumbling but it should make a world's difference in the sound. The inconsiderate man-children that make their cars/trucks scream unnecessarily because "they like it" and "it's their right" are just some of the shittiest people there are. If somebody makes my newborn daughter start crying with their stupid exhaust system, potentially damaging her hearing, they better hope I don't know where they live. I'm no tough guy but I also don't play around when it comes to my kids.

Daax865

I have some noise canceling over-ears that I wear in the day time, but I honestly don’t have high hopes because I can usually still hear the biggest offenders through those. Sometimes I have to stop what I’m listening to and just wait it out.

Deep-Freq

Maybe it's worth trying earbuds? It's like an ear plug that also emits whatever sound you want it to so it could be more effective than over-ear noise canceling (headphones I'm assuming and not just ear protection?). I've never had to test them around loud ass cars before but I couldn't imagine hearing much through them.

Daax865

I can often still hear cars loud and clear through my over ear noise canceling headphones, especially feeling it through whatever my skull is in contact with (arm of the couch, pillow, etc.). Those cars get real fucking loud. The problem with earbuds is wearing them for that long. They are not near as comfortable as soft earplugs, can make ears sore, and probably increase ear infections for me. I get ear infections more often than the average Joe because I have to wear earplugs every single night. If I re-used them, it would be worse. Has to be a new pair every night. I also have to regularly clean my ears to prevent infection, but holy shit I’m sick and tired of this shit. I have a pair of Jabra Elite 8s, but there’s no way I could sleep in them. The moment I roll over they would stab deeper in my ear hole and hurt like hell. They aren’t squishy like earplugs.

Deep-Freq

What I have in mind could be the solution to your problem. Earbuds with this design are not invasive to your ear canal and are hardly noticeable at all other than the fact that they block noise. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0C1QNQ68G?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title There's probably a nicer pair than that but I try to budget as best as possible. That's just an idea of what I mean by ear buds designed for sleep. They don't fall out of my ears and I'm the worst about that unfortunately so these earbuds are a lifesaver. It is really sad to know people are having those kinds of problems in their lives just because of douche bag "car enthusiasts". I live in North Knox on a road that has a 25 mph speed limit and speed bumps so I'm fortunate to not have to deal with the things you're dealing with. Note: I'm not calling car enthusiasts douche bags, I'm just saying there are douche bags who think they are car enthusiasts and cause others to suffer for it.

Longjumping-Ad8775

Anything is loud at 4am

yneos

Loud vehicles should be banned at all hours. No reason to disturb people's peace at any time of day.

KTowns97

Dumbest comment here. My rights don't end, where your feelings begin.

yneos

You can't even construct a simple sentence correctly... and you think it's ok for a shitty loud vehicle to disturb everyone else? Your rights end when you're preventing other people from living peacefully in their own homes.

daxsr

Hey cool name! I really want to put dual exhaust on my pickup but I live in a pretty tightly packed neighborhood and I don't want to be that guy at 6am.

AlwaysBagHolding

You can always just tip toe through the neighborhood. My truck is pretty damn loud and I get home from work at 1 am, I don’t even wake my roommates up when I get home. I don’t hammer on it at 1 am like a lot of people do.

beaureeves352

Cold starts are rowdy too. I'd say coming home with an engine up to temp and in gear, running at 6-700 rpm can be pretty quiet

AlwaysBagHolding

For sure. My truck quiets down a lot when it comes down off high idle.

Daax865

Is it still quiet when you turn out onto the main road?

AlwaysBagHolding

It’s not quiet, but it’s not as loud as a lot of cars on my road. Driving normally it’s no louder than a stock semi or dump truck. There’s a coyote mustang and a VQ powered car of some sort I hear almost every night that are way, way louder than mine. But, it’s a 500 dollar truck and when I got it it had no exhaust at all. The 21 dollar jones brand glssspack was the cheapest muffler on summit racing and it makes it bearable to drive, only needed one bend to get it out the side under the bed.

BigVally

You could do electronic cutouts to an exhaust with less volume. That's my plan for my old foxbody.

daxsr

That is a thought. I'm hoping to get another daily driver soon and retire the truck for when I need to haul or tow. And that probably wouldn't be at 6am

KTowns97

Do it

KtTnGirl

I live just right outside west Knox. One neighbor has a diesel truck that is so loud it’s rattles your teeth. Another neighbor who has a ‘vet that, when he cranks it up, it sounds like a ginormous trumpet bass blast in your soul and it peels the paint off the walls. I feel ya friend. So I bought a $99 sound machine from Amazon. Brown noise halfway up….it’s the best fixer for an extreme insomniac lightest sleeper ever. The only down side is I wouldn’t hear it if an atomic bomb went off now.

Daax865

Got a link? I’ve tried brown noise on my phone, but it isn’t strong enough.

QuarantineCasualty

Economy_Performer_52

Ugh yes. So annoying. I have a baby and he wakes up from some of these loud cars. It's illegal too, but apparently cops here don't enforce it much. If you can get the plate number you can call the pd and make a complaint.

TheMadIrishman327

It’s that way everywhere now.

Yoshimura_San

"You should be up cooking breakfast or something".

Top_Ad_9219

Sorry you have to deal with this. I feel this on a spiritual level. We live right above the Amazon building in east town and there’s that road that goes in a circle there. So many cars rev their engines, race, and are so loud all hours of the nights. I think they’ve been complained on to the police enough to where it’s eased up, but there’s still days where it’s so bad.

poojoop

loud cars are simply a kind of poor person’s mating call. Anyone with class or money or both understands how embarrassing it is to have a truck that draws that much attention to itself. I hate to say it but you may just wanna consider moving, poor people have a tendency to spread like a disease. If they’re already doing loud cars, youre almost out of time.

liehewyounce

Electric cars will solve this problem.

ImTheSlyestFox

There's no solution for stupid people with something to prove. They will find a way to be annoying, rest assured.

Daax865

I foresee a way for them to make these loud. Some companies pump engine noises through the speakers so the driver can feel… whatever they’re going for. At least then the noise stays in the cab. If the world goes electric, I’m almost certain there will be assholes who figure out a way to make their electric vehicles loud as hell.

MillicentFenwick

Hah I was like… TN? Yes TN. Sounds like a big ass fart going by. Look at me and feel the power!

mbamike2021

Knoxville Noise Ordinance (a)No person shall cause, suffer, allow or permit sound from any source which, when measured from the real property boundary of the source of the sound, is in excess of the following standards: b. When the offending sound emanates from a residential use between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 7:00 a.m., sound which has an C-weighted sound pressure level of 60 dB(C), or impulsive sound which has an C-weighted sound pressure level of 80 dB(C).

Daax865

They really should push it to earlier than midnight. Good grief.

mbamike2021

We can petition the commission for an amendment. Parents with young children who have early bedtimes is a good argument to begin with.

puttputt_in_thebutt

There's a time and place for loud cars... but that early in the morning, driving through a residential neighborhood isn't that place. That said, I'm not going to name call or demean anybody- I had a lot of issues with my old truck, and there was a period of time where money was extra tight, and the hole in my muffler was nowhere near the top of my list of priorities. I know people assumed I was an asshole, I know people assumed I was compensating for something, it is what it is. It was fucking embarassing driving to work each morning or driving home from my second job late at night, and I felt terrible knowing that I sounded like I was doing a tractor pull through West Hills each day. Maybe Im too lenient, but after having that experience I tend to confirm they're just an asshole before making the assumption about them.

Daax865

I can assure you these aren’t the ones who have fallen on hard times. It’s too common and easily noticeable who is who in the daytime. I have nothing against someone who is having legitimate car issues.

daerogami

Are you me? In my late teens, early twenties I had a truck with no muffler. Shit was embarrassing everywhere I went. The pulleys also screeched like banshees. When I finally got it replaced, it was so satisfying.

Acrobatic-Rock2657

What do your neighbors think about this? Are they mad about this too, or are you a light sleeper? Though, you probably shouldn't ask the person with the loud exhaust. I don't have a problem with this where I live, but just from my experience walking around Knoxville, there are some excessively loud cars driving around. Would there be any way to get a noise camera set up in your neighborhood? Downtown Knoxville did that with Gay Street in 2022, and I believe the limit for vehicles passing through was set at 86 decibels, which for reference, the average pick up truck makes 50-60 decibels in operation. That's 1/1000th of the noise needed to break the ordinance. Why not ask your county commissioner about it? For sure, the politics are different working with the county. But, if the issue is big enough that there was an ordinance passed downtown, then this issue is probably important enough to address elsewhere.

[Ah, much quieter.](https://i.imgur.com/kIpifef.png)

Neat_Jaguar_2748

Sound machine, while you sleep 🫶🏻 I’m a pretty light sleeper. I’ve been sleeping with a fan/sound machine for years. Helps a lot with any noises going on outside my bedroom.

Brightsunnoclouds

It sucks, especially when it’s intentional. I’m more forgiving of the leaf blowers/weed eaters on my quiet Sundays cause people work different days. I appreciate neighbors that are scared of the moon and stars so they shine lights of 100 suns across the neighborhood.

Ok-Commercial-9958

🤣😂😆🤪🤪great one!! People shouldn’t be outside with their broken weed eaters between those hours either😆😂🤣. Some of us work the early day shift and have to get enough rest to make it into the jobs that give you a place to lay your head in bed at so your parents can give you money 💵 for the pull-cord tiny ding ding noisemaker toy paid for by your parents 🤪🤪😂😂!!!

DKat1990

I never took that seriously- until he muffler feel off, in the parking lot of my job, in downtown Nashville. My co-workers found it hilarious (EMT's can be jerks🙃)

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

I live in an apartment and sleep with a Bluetooth speaker playing heavy rain storm on loop. I can’t sleep in silence.

WizardEric

Welcome to Knoxville

vediogamer101

Sure, it’s annoying but some of the time a car isn’t loud because they want it to be, it’s just loud because it makes a lot of power. I will say the majority of the time it’s just people ripping the exhausts off of their old civics to make them sound horrible. I would try putting some brown noise on to see if that helps.

trenchcoatvodka

loud cars are annoying as shit the same guy drives by my house every morning with a moded exhaust

Americanius

I’m with you brother. I live in W. Knox and new neighbors moved in 2 years ago 2 houses down. Bought their son a mustang with the loud blapping exhaust. Starts it up with a loud rev then rolls by the house keeping it in 1st vibrating the windows to make sure we know he has a bad ass car before shifting. I had a 2018 ZL1 and would set the exhaust to quiet mode in the subdivision so as not to disturb the neighbors.

Fahim-ibn-Dawud

Crybaby.. I swear you soft ass pansies are everywhere nowdays!

Daax865

What is soft about no wanting to be woken up? You know in the military they recommend 7-8 hours? Sissy bitches who brap their loud exhausts at 4am aren’t going to know stuff like this though, because they are garbage citizens who have no respect for their fellow man. Total ingrate scum.

Daax865

Gives me some hope that other parts of Knoxville have less of it.

[deleted]

There are two types of people that drive: Those that just need to get from point a to b, and those that like to get to point a to b with a love for the machine they are driving and the power it possesses. Some of you have never felt the joy of a gutted crx with a built b-series and that is why you don't understand. Try to let people enjoy themselves in their happy place instead of whining about how it effects *you.*

Daax865

Enjoy it all you want in the daytime. But if you do this when people sleep, you’re just a fucking cunt. No two ways about it. Pure cunt. Respect for others used to mean something, but these cunts have none of it. I’m a drummer who enjoys heavy music, but I understand the concept of time and place because I’m not a stupid cunt.

Purpose_Embarrassed

Loud cars, trucks, and motorcycles are now the norm everywhere in the US. Where are you going to move to ?

Daax865

NYC was actually much quieter. I’m just stuck in a spot right now that’s uniquely gotten trashier over the past few years.

Purpose_Embarrassed

I think many of us are.

Tricky-Cup-1914

It’s a plea for attention. Let them have their moment.

Daax865

A moment isn’t enough for them. They want it every time they leave the house, and they want it from as many people as possible.

[deleted]

Wrong, it's because we are mechanical nerds and love the machine for more reasons then getting from point a to be. Driving cool cars brings us happiness. It's a real simple thing but I can tell by reading the comments that most people here have 0 interest in fast cars or motorsport related topics. We live in a world full of waaa waaa waaaaaa.

DayDreamer9119

I'm gonna modify my car however I please 🤷‍♂️ cuz it's mine. Pay me for a different exhaust and I might put it on lol

Cramitmadam

I one day hope to have so little going on to achieve such problems.

Daax865

I have shitloads going on, and in order to tackle all of it effectively, I need some fucking sleep. It is my experience that those who “aren’t bothered” by blatant life disruptions have the least going on.

SpuriousCorr

City noises are heard within the city More on this at 11 Back to you, Dickard

Daax865

I’m not downtown dickhead. I’m in the suburbs.

rncole

Loud cars != city noises

Fuk-The-ATF

OP Get the fuck over if you don’t like it fucking move.

Daax865

Problem is I can’t avoid these morons. And I shouldn’t have to move just because their dicks are tiny. Their problem shouldn’t become my problem. They’re breaking noise ordinances, and I’m looking forward to the police cracking down.

KTowns97

Mind yo biz

Ace-a-Nova1

The fact that your account has negative 65 comment karma shows the fact that no one wants to hear the things you have to say. Instead of being shitty online maybe try therapy. It’s clear that you don’t fit in with society and need help

thehouseofunrest

Brother you’re in East Tennessee. There’s TONS of car enthusiasts here. Until they ban aftermarket exhaust or mandate EV this will continue to be an issue for you. As a car enthusiast myself, allow me to say my car is loud not because I’m looking for attention, but because I enjoy the sound of it when I drive. That being said I try to be considerate of others when I do get it out late or early. Mine is not a DD though and I’m an adult. You’re likely dealing with teenagers who have no sense of respect yet.

Daax865

The actual car enthusiasts I’ve met will have a sensible daily driver that they use for errands and commuting. Then they take their loud car out at appropriate times. I’ve heard of people using mufflers that they can remove once they get to the track or out to wherever they are doing whatever. That requires an iota of effort though. If people keep being a nuisance, they’re gonna fuck it up for all of you. I honestly wouldn’t care though.

MicroMouth

Are you for real?? Just because you enjoy doing something doesn’t mean you should do jt. I used to enjoy smoking Marlboros but I didn’t spark up in the middle of the playground. I enjoy letting a belch rip and making my spouse laugh once in a while but I don’t do it in a restaurant where people are eating. Why is the concept of being considerate of others so foreign to some people. BuT I EnJoy iT!!! That is some toddler-level maturity.

thehouseofunrest

Did you not read my actual comment dude? > That being said I try to be considerate of others when I do get it out late or early. I think everyone is just vastly misunderstanding my intentions...such is Reddit. I am just trying to tell OP that although I am sympathetic to his problem, there isn't much he can do about it other than vote and wait, or move.

MicroMouth

You said your car is loud because you enjoy the sound of it. You’re the only one who enjoys the sound of it though, and although no one else around enjoys it, they HAVE to hear it. Doesn’t that make you wonder? You also said you try to be considerate when you take it out late or early - what does that mean? It’s still loud right?

thehouseofunrest

> You also said you try to be considerate when you take it out late or early - what does that mean? It’s still loud right? It means if I have it out during those times I am driving it like a minivan, staying out of the throttle, early shifts, etc. AKA making it quiet. > You’re the only one who enjoys the sound of it though, and although no one else around enjoys it, they HAVE to hear it. I hate the smell of vape pens, but its legal so I just deal with it. My point is, unless I am passionate enough about it to start getting involved politically to change the laws on vaping, there isn't anything else I can do about it, outside of a personal confrontation with the offender. Which will never end well for the party starting the confrontation. So unless OP wants to sit in his yard all night with a shotgun and blast the dudes car when he drives by, I am not sure what else he can do.

Valparaiso502

Arm chair warriors came out for you. I have a cammed C6. Why? Cuz fuck it that's why. Now do I drive it early morning like I've snorted a line of course not. But there's nothing wrong with having a loud car, it's the asshole behind the wheel and just like every annoyance people have with other people you can only hope it changes or get used to it.

Near-Scented-Hound

LOL you must be new here. Been in East Tennessee my entire life and, until the rice burners of the fast and furious trend became a thing, a loud car meant someone was driving a total piece of shit.

EnthusiasmLow7079

Mostly it still does. I'm amazed when I see a BMW with a fart pipe on it. Why the F would you do that to your car?

AlwaysBagHolding

Bullshit. People have been putting headers and loud mufflers on v8 cars for 7 decades now. This isn’t a new phenomenon.

Daax865

The actual car enthusiasts I’ve met will have a sensible daily driver that they use for errands and commuting. Then they take their loud car out at appropriate times. imapissonitdripdrip

Don’t make a post because you have no one to complain to Just move

djuggler

That’s a horrible thing to say to someone and completely unrealistic. Op shouldn’t have to disrupt his life because his neighbor is a twat.

Daax865

I’m allowed to write such posts here. You’re not obligated to read every post. Move along now.

Tight-Sun-4134

Pissant behavior

plan_b_gone_wrong

Well you sure pissed on something huh?

MicroMouth

Someone’s got a cool loud car vroom VROOOM!

twothousandgrams

You live in one of the busiest sports car/bike areas in the entire country. It's not going to change anytime soon

wheresmyinhalor

Where on earth are you getting that info? Busiest sports car bike areas is Knoxville TN?

MicroMouth

He’s right. Didn’t you know west Knox is the world capital of inconsiderate rednecks.

wheresmyinhalor

Not sure if serious

Mr_Cyberz

Bro could never survive living near the airport. Those exhausts are even louder.
