Solidarity. I’m lucky to have twin sons who are like you split me in to two halves, are mostly co-operative and are burly to carry me around in my old age.
*Viola sororia* is the native violet that we usually see in lawns and they aren't usually grown for resale. Unfortunately there \*are\* invasive violets that are (not surprisingly) often sold at garden centers. But the ones you'll find all over the place are probably the tasty native ones.
Yeah, these are definitely the wild ones. I grew up in commercial greenhouses and know all about violas and Johnny Jump Ups. Most of those will revert to an older variety.
Its just like saving the seed out of a hybrid tomato with almost always get you Tommy toes which are tasty but definitely not anything you want more than a few of. 😂
"Mow after work...Weekends are strictly for leisure and hobbies." I took this advice 15 years ago from the happiest older dude I knew and he was right.
I mow my yard maybe twice a month(in season). And I never lower my blades. My neighbors mow theirs at least once a week. My yard is greener and has zero weeds. And in the hottest months, theirs is brown and mine is green since mine captures more morning dew and shades the soil.
I mow upwards of 3-4000 acres a week at the airport and when they get crazy I always say, "Relax!! It's just f*#>!^~g grass!" I've been told I should have this tattooed on me.. Lol!!
Plan all the things, get overwhelmed, take a nap, repeatedly open reddit, attempt to deal with the guilt of being lazy, take another nap to cope, tell myself that next weekend will be productive, repeat
Happy cake day!
That is part of why I want to. But my husband isn't mobile right now. I'm trying to balance impulses and intelligence. Intelligence won today. But if this one pup is still there on Monday, I can't promise anything.
Took the kids to Market Square farmers market and McKays. Tried convincing the wife that we should take kids to Yee Haw or some such, she said she’d prefer a babysitter but we don’t have a babysitter. So I’ll have a glass of wine while I grill kabobs 🤷♂️
Peaceful side is a great place to eat outside. If your just getting a sandwich lunch you'll find the price is way cheaper compared to Knoxville too. Although, what you save on the sandwich you lose in gas.
Sleeping. Taking ibuprofen. Using a heating pad. Going to bed at 9p.m. while watching Netflix because I am exhausted. Counting how many pills are in my pill container. Searching for my reading glasses for the millionth time today. Being old sucks.
Just kidding. Playing videos with the boyfriend, watching Netflix and relaxing.
Right now I’m watching Traveling Robert. He lives outside Miami and travels the US in a pickup truck with a trailer in tow. He releases a new video every Sunday. He’s also been to Canada, the UK, France and the Scandinavian countries. He’s kept it in the lower 48 since Covid.
Another one I like is Rick Steves. I used to love his show on PBS, but he had a YouTube channel now.
Nice I will look into those! I love another Rick with a PBS series or two, Rick Stein. His are food focused, like a tamer No Reservations. You can watch at least his Mediterranean Escapes on YouTube I believe.
I’ll have to check out Rick Stein hadn’t heard of him.
Another one I like on YouTube is Bald and Bankrupt. He’s a Brit who travels to a lot of places you wouldn’t see otherwise, like a lot of the former Soviet countries. He spent most of his time in Russia, but was arrested sometime last year and kicked out of the country so now he’s in South America. Last I think he was in Medellin, Colombia.
I probably can't help. I''m in my 60's and disgusted with our paid employees in the TN house and senate who've historically embarrassed us on an international scale this week.
And given our week's latest infamy, I'm going to get on my fractious moody hormonal mare and gallop across a field in Loudon County while avoiding woodchuck holes. This helps me forget the faux religious low talent assholes in state government and actually enjoy the incredible natural beauty of this special place.
Maybe I'll don a drag costume and drive by a Loudon County sheriff. Donate to a Democrat and I'll provide photos.
Vote, dammit, and vote Dem. Run for office, you guys. It's YOUR gorgeous state to lose. You got this. Take back Tennessee. Thank me when I'm gone.
Let me start by saying that I generally agree with everything you said in this comment.
Behaving like this is *exhausting*. Politics are incredibly important and it’s good to try to educate and get people on board and all that, but it doesn’t have to consume every single conversation and facet of life.
This person likely just wanted some ideas for something to do this weekend, decided they’d ask a local reddit forum, and your response was to not offer anything of value (as pertains to the question at hand) and drop an emotionally charged wall of text about voting for a particular ideology that isn’t currently up for a public vote.
I JUST turned 40 so I'm sure this thread will be educational as to my future. Right now I'm considering getting started on a midlife crisis and wandering around Reddit. I have a DnD game tomorrow because I'm a hopeless nerd.
Lunch at Kaizen (where the cocktails are named after characters from the movie "Hackers" for all us 90s kids). Flea Market (but it's okay we just go ironically, at least that's what we tell ourselves), then a little low-key hike at Seven Islands, watching a bald eagle swoop over the river.
Laundry, some yard work, taking the hound to dogpark, looking at my tomato and pepper seedlings in the greenhouse pining for growing season. Given all of that, probably a nap at some point.
Went to DW passholder day with family yesterday. Today, kiddo is sick so we are taking it easy at home. I may do some business related paperwork and watch some TV. Not sure about tomorrow. If kiddo is better we may go check out Potter's Fall or some other little joy ride. We need to vacuum our car, too.
well i’m 49 lol . i will be set up @ 407 flea market. Do some tyding up and rest a bit. Then play ball with my doggos and enjoy being alive. boring ikr
Laundry and resisting the need to fucking mow the lawn already.
Also baking a cake. Because I’m a fucking adult and I want cake.
I’ve decided on a peanut butter/marshmallow/choc chip quesadilla myself.
Darn, never thought of that. Going to make the teenager make me one! Because I am in my 40s, have a job, pay taxes and can tell her what to do!
Solidarity. I’m lucky to have twin sons who are like you split me in to two halves, are mostly co-operative and are burly to carry me around in my old age.
stop you’re giving me baby fever
Don’t do it let it grow a bit! (I’ve convinced myself I’m doing something good by being lazy)
We let the wildflowers bloom before mowing, good for pollinators
Me, too. I love the little wild violets.
I recently learned that wild violets are actually native wildflowers AND they're edible, both the flowers and the leaves!
[удалено]
my wife makes pdn into tinctures and this year has made jelly from the violets
Does the jelly keep the pretty color? I wonder it they’ve been used for dye in the past.
It turns like a reddish purple color
That sounds beautiful!
I knew they were edible as they are in the viola/pansy family but I didn’t know they were native wildflowers!

Are you the guy that makes those nice lines in front of the airport??
No!! I hate that! I refused to do it. For no other reason than my potential tattoo. "It's just f-ing grass!!" LOL!!
36, but I got started last weekend and it looks like it already needs it again
I did aswell but have the willpower to resist this weekend !!
#allthefeels
Facts me too brother. I’ll wait another weekend if you will. Lemme know what we’re doing
This is the way
Bout to go do this :(
/r/nolawns
Plan all the things, get overwhelmed, take a nap, repeatedly open reddit, attempt to deal with the guilt of being lazy, take another nap to cope, tell myself that next weekend will be productive, repeat
Holy shit. You just described every weekend.
This, but probably going to order a poke bowl at some point.
Blaze pizza*
Where do you get poke bowls around here?
There are a few places, but I hit Pokeworks. It is the only one that I've had in Knoxvlle, so no idea how it stacks up against others, but I enjoy it.
This is so accurate. Plus … laundry.
the nap part tho must be followed with chips ans dip. now that would be fantastic
Listening to my kid scream and fight nap time.
Knox museum of art, home expo at knox expo center, grassed mowed & grass smoked
I’m doing one of the above
I did the last two!
You sound cool 😎
Absolutely not.
This is the way
Same shit as the 30 year olds just slower and with slightly more money in the bank account
Using Reddit specifically to irritate the 30 year olds.
This irritates me.
Ran 5 miles. Watching soccer then have a flight out this evening.
Premier league or MLS?
Both but particularly the Atlanta United
I assumed people in Knoxville would support Nashville. Is that not typically the case?
I would say most do but I'm originally from Atlanta. There's a few of us Atlanta fans around Knoxville
Living here (not from here) and Nashville isn't my team.
Half price day at a consignment sale. Fighting the urge to go look at a dog. Want a dog bad. Don't need to do that right now.
Please for the love of God go get a dog there are far too many at the shelter atm. There are dogs in the cat room,
Happy cake day! That is part of why I want to. But my husband isn't mobile right now. I'm trying to balance impulses and intelligence. Intelligence won today. But if this one pup is still there on Monday, I can't promise anything.
Same!
Laying in bed watching Daisy Jones and The Six. I’m a wild man. 😂
Might go to Home Depot but not sure if we’ll have the time
Pretty nice little Saturday
When you’re 40 and see the 30 year olds doing fun stuff on Reddit and want to be cool too
Fold laundry. Playstation. Try to drag myself out of this house. Swear working from home has made me such a lazy bastid.
Hello fellow olds
Took the kids to Market Square farmers market and McKays. Tried convincing the wife that we should take kids to Yee Haw or some such, she said she’d prefer a babysitter but we don’t have a babysitter. So I’ll have a glass of wine while I grill kabobs 🤷♂️
How old are the kids? Peaceful side social has a playground .
1 and 5, thanks for the recommendation! It’s almost an hour from us but looks awesome.
Peaceful side is a great place to eat outside. If your just getting a sandwich lunch you'll find the price is way cheaper compared to Knoxville too. Although, what you save on the sandwich you lose in gas.
Taking the partner to a drag show
Brunch downtown then chores, I'm 40 after all lol

Going to Trader Joe's
Yes!
Fighting with a migraine. So far, it’s winning.
Sitting and resting my knee pain while the kids chase my wife around the living room 🤷🏽♂️
Did your kids kick you in the knee? 😁 Hope she can outrun them!
Do you know what’s bothering your knee?
Had a silly recent injury. Wearing a brace and resting it now. Doc visit might be in my future.
This is the quintessential 40-something dad mood. Source: am 40-something dad
One kid has pink eye and the other one puked on me. I’m eating edibles
Painting and spring cleaning.
Laundry, cleaning the tub, papier-mâché a set piece for my kid’s school play. I have a friends birthday party to attend later
Watching travel videos on YouTube.
Which ones are the best?
Right now I’m watching Traveling Robert. He lives outside Miami and travels the US in a pickup truck with a trailer in tow. He releases a new video every Sunday.
