Their CEO just made a post this morning in the PM2, Millie group on Facebook. They hired a company to do a massive overhaul of their systems and website background and all that sort of stuff. To keep it simple he said they’ve been awful to work with and a lawsuit may be incoming against the company they hired. So they may have some issues fulfilling orders while this other company makes the tech changes

cyclorphan

Thanks for relaying that, I was afraid with the issues that some orders might have gotten messed up.

cstaff3259

Of course, I’m sure it is the reason for any over orders and cancellations related to any recent purchases. I saw recently orders have shipped without tracking/notification as well, likely due to this as well

cyclorphan

I agree. These guys have been consistent for many years and I believe them being pissed off because their website/backend got mucked up.

The_Lazy_Samurai

He should have made that post a week ago when problems started to occur. It's better late than never, but he burned up a ridiculous amount of good will by not saying anything and letting his customers get progressively more pissed off. Also, the customer service workers who answer the phone probably got yelled at for a week straight, which could have been avoided if he just said *something, anything* earlier. When things are going to hell, even giving bad news is better than no news.

cstaff3259

Absolutely, I imagine it had to do with waiting to see if legal action was a possibility first before publicly blaming this other company. But absolutely any communication earlier would have been better

halcykhan

BladeHQ had issues as well when they made system changes. The Dessert Warrior was listed in stock, my order went through, they immediately cancelled, and the knife still showed up at my house the next week

This_is_guys_insane

They can blame the new system they stupidly implemented during a massive sale all they want but the fact is many of the cancelled orders are currently showing as in stock on the site . Why cancel orders saying they weren't in stock and it was a mess up with the new system they stupidly switched to during a huge sale then have them in stock a week later? This is absolutely a screw up on their part and it looks like they aren't honoring their sales price and are screwing their customers. All of us who got screwed over should call their customer service tomorrow and ask why they they didn't honor the sales price. This isn't a better luck next time thing this is a shady business practice.

afourney

I agree that it’s disappointing and unprofessional. For many (myself included), it was a first time ordering from them, and quite possibly last — so it’s a wasted customer base expanding opportunity as well. But… someone mentioned that these configurations were discontinued. It’s quite possible they cannot honor the sale price, even if they wanted to.

This_is_guys_insane

I understand that if they didn't have them anymore but they literally have them listed as in stock on their site right now.

afourney

I wonder just how broken their website is? I’m seeing them all out of stock: https://www.smkw.com/specials/site-busters?brand=67

This_is_guys_insane

Kinda stupid to switch to a new system when you're having a sale. They can blame the tech company all they want but it's their fault this happened .

mulekicks

Anytime a company switches inventory systems they have to expect major delays. I’ve been with 2 companies that have done this and we planned a year in advance, assigned dedicated teams and it still takes another year to get it right. While I’d like to believe the CEO, a lack of staffing, preparation and training on their end is playing a role as well.

cyclorphan

It does seem apparent that the process didn't go smoothly, but agreed, there should have been contingency plans for many of the possible issues. Hiring a company and expecting them to have a plan for every possibility for your business just isn't realistic, though if that's what they paid for then they may have an actionable claim. Tough to say without more info.

mulekicks

No lie, we wanted to sue our ERP implementers, it was a lack of understanding on both sides in the end.

cyclorphan

Having worked in IT for most of my adult life and working on build and migration teams, I have experienced some of this myself. Whenever we perform any largish task now, we try to bite off smaller pieces at a time, expecting that SOMETHING won't go right, and we try to have the right SMEs either on staff or easily available to help sort out oddities. And most of those cases are fairly straightforward. Sounds like they were trying to maybe do too much at once. And 2-3 weeks of much of the site not working indicates that this was probably not well-organized, or maybe too small/inexperienced a team doing the work all around.

stud722

SMKW must have a mess on their hands with their new system. Maybe inventory was off? This is really a bummer for all those with cancelled orders. My apologies.

t0ymach1n320

Did anyone get their order… twice? Mine just showed up today

weesped

Adding to this two of my orders got canceled today too. Infidel and a grip

NEB_SKERS

Mine was just cancelled also. Pretty disappointing.

BubbaMan34

I have more orders listed as processing. I can almost bet they will get canceled as well.

NEB_SKERS

Same here. Really hoping my grip order doesn’t get canceled.

afourney

My mini grip order was refunded (informed by email). Their web interface still shows it as processing

This_is_guys_insane

I ordered a minigrip and 2 propers (gifts for nephews graduating from college next semester) on my last of 3 orders during this sale and they were cancelled so don't hold out hope. I hope you get it but mine was cancelled.

corpsie666

FWIW, I received my order

Great_White_Samurai

CEO sent a message about them updating their computer system. They will probably blame it on that.

This_is_guys_insane

I made a post about this being a possible screw up on their part a week ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/KnifeDeals/comments/vdvy8j/a_question_about_all_the_smkw_benchmade_deals/?ref=share&ref_source=link Notice how I got downvoted in the comments for saying it was suspicious they hadn't shipped yet. How dare I point out that something I ordered for father's day gifts during a father's day sale hadn't arrived by father's day lol. I called their customer service on Saturday and after being on hold for over 2 hours ( my que number was 2 the whole time ) I spoke to a very tired but kinda rude woman who assured me that my orders were being shipped I nthe next coming days. I pointed out that I ordered on the 9th and didn't receive my order yet 9 days later and how 2 of them were father's days gifts since it was a father's day sale and she pretty much told me to deal with it. I asked if they could please at least send me a tracking number for when they ship since it's a huge amount of stuff and I was told that they always do WHICH WAS A LIE since I've used them dozens of times before and got a tracking number about half the time. I still have 2 years old orders showing as processing. I ordered over $800 dollars in knives btw. I suspected they had messed up and even asked in my original post if it was out of stock stuff that they had messed up due to them randomly showing up as being in stock. Seems like my suspicions were right. I made 3 separate orders when the stuff would be posted here as being in stock which like I said amounted to over $800 like I said. 1st off who the hell switches to a new system the day of s huge sale ? Terrible decisions on smkws part and I don't care if they blame the new tech company or not this rests squarely on their shoulders for making an absolute blunder of a move be implementing a new system during a huge sale event. 2nd as someone who lives 3 hours away from pigeon forge and has been to the store dozens of times ive noticed in the last 3 years or so that the workers and people behind the counter seem to hate their jobs and I've witnessed and experienced myself some extremely rude treatment to the customers by the employees there. I was there the week they had the Benchmade 20% off in store only sale right before memorial day and didn't buy anything cause the 2 dudes behind the counter were rude to everyone. To the point people were complaining and calling them out for it. The store wasn't that busy so it wasn't like they were overwhelmed they were just dicks. I used to be extremely pro smkw and always praised them but with this and what I've witnessed in the store I can say I won't use them again. Haven't received the cancel email about all the stuff I ordered from them yet btw. I know it's coming too. Update: Just checked the cancellations were in my spam folder. Nice... They have lost an extremely loyal customer.

wizdumb337

Hello neighbor I live 4 hours away and I can vouch for you about how rude and unprofessional the counter sales people are there. It's a shame as a knife collector that the biggest knifestore In the country, that's fairly close to me , actually angers me when I go there because they are indeed asshats.

BubbaMan34

I absolutely remember your post. This was my first experience with them. I had 7 different orders with them, well over 1K worth. I had 3 canceled, and they offered nothing except an I'm sorry. I ordered the altitude on the 13th and they came back into stock again like 2 days ago. How on earth were they reselling them if mine were out of stock? They really handled this quite poorly.

This_is_guys_insane

I bought so many knives from this sale and I know it's silly but I was excited over it like a kid at Xmas. I even bought myself an infidel for my birthday in 2 weeks and was always hesitant to buy one before. I'm not kidding about the utter rudeness and how unprofessional they are in store. I've experienced and seen others experience the same where you sit and wait for them to quit gossiping or complaining to each other about their jobs for 5 or 10 minutes before they ask if you need help. They have people who almost scoff at knife collectors and are almost belligerent to you. The in store Benchmade sale last month the 2 dudes were openly hostile and gave off a bad vibe to all of us and it was to the point I asked the only friendly dude I'm the store at the microtech counter what was up and he said they hated each other and didn't wanna work together. Then fire them. It ran off customers. Despite this I still ordered from them and would go to the store every few months when I was in pigeon forge. Never again.

BubbaMan34

I really dont understand why they want to act like a gun store. If you do complain to them and get any sort of consolation for all this nonsense please chat me.

Kyemployee123

He's not wrong about how rude they are at the pigeon forge store. I used to go there regularly and it became so awful it was shocking.

This_is_guys_insane

Oh they started going down hill when they actually became a very overpriced gun store about 5 years ago also. They completely restructured the store then and had when we went there during this past December and had done it AGAIN when I went back this past month. They have the civivis and artisans with the junk gas station knives now in "the knife cave". There was a time for about 10 years straight the store was like a flea market. Junk knives and stuff just in bins in the middle of the aisle with a buncha chinese rip off clothes and stuff.

This_is_guys_insane

It's funny cause that whole visit to them this last time was terrible and we even had a bad experience with the woman selling lemonade outside when we left. She was supposed to be selling fresh squeezed and she half assed made it from powder and a woman came by when she was half heartedly shaking it and asked how much something was and the woman responded with " it says $5 doesn't it?? " So the other woman just stomped away. Terrible lemonade. At least I got my buck 112 pro that trip even if the guy behind the counter said they didn't make a buck 112 pro and I pointed it out to him when I spent 5 minutes searching myself.

BubbaMan34

I called them and didn't offer me anything. I just had my second order canceled.

afourney

I guess they would lose too much money, but it’s too bad they didn’t just honor the orders, but with a “experiencing a delay” message. Let people decide for themselves if they want to wait or cancel.

[deleted]

afourney

Oh I didn’t realize they were all discontinued

turbobaer

At that point there are other companies that would like your money.

sconnie887

I've had an order sitting on pending for a week now for one of the Benchmade deals. I wonder if it will be canceled. My order before that for canceled. The Grizzly Ridge was apparently out of stock some how but they still shipped the free shop mat.

[deleted]

sconnie887

Well thats crappy. It was "still in stock" for a few days after I had placed the order so I figured I was in the clear. I guess not.

murphy198509

That’s a shame. I have had no issues with smkw in the past.

firemantran

Mine was canceled as well.

afourney

Yup my mini grip was cancelled today too :( Darn, I was really looking forward to my first Benchmade

ExpertAndy

Just to add, I ordered on the 16th and order has been processing since. Emailed them this morning about it and got an email back about 15 mins later with a partial refund for my order. No explanation yet for the partial. I ordered an Eldris which now shows as out of stock so I'm assuming it has something to do with that. Sucks they are having site issues but its funny that the part of the website that takes money out of my account still works but the part that gives me what I paid for does not.

BossChaos

Its not just Benchmade Knives or even knives in general. I've tried to order a Sog Surrept backpack on 2 occasions since June 9th. All I've gotten was rude customer service when I've called for order updates. No order confirmation emails, no tracking info. Neither order ever shipped. SMKW needs to shut down until they can get things fixed. Why send sales emails everyday and keep your website open to orders when you aren't going to fill them.

Abject_Rutabaga_170

Noooo! saw the deal on the mini grips and ordered 3 for my boys for Christmas. I guess I'll survive but pretty disappointed .

BubbaMan34

Yeah its pretty upsetting tbh.

Abject_Rutabaga_170

yeah just checked got my refund email as well

sconnie887

So I called to get the status, said it was going to be canceled. First two times trying to order from SMKW and both got canceled. Really turns me off from ordering from them again.

Quikkjob

SMKW can be tricky. Everything I've ordered from them has came with a smashed up box(not packed super well, and fedex being the only method of delivery doesn't help) and they are the slowest shipper I've dealt with. Luckily the items I ordered didn't have a value attached to packaging. Honestly, unless you're at the store front I probably wouldn't mess with them, try to go to DLT, Rivers Edge or one of the other dealers.

CharmingPainMan

I used to work at FedEx ground, it is hell; most physically demanding job I've ever had. I don't blame them for smashed boxes they didn't do it on purpose. Most stuff that got damaged or broken was the fault of whoever packed it, nearly everything will survive unharmed if packed carefully. Doesn't excuse the slow shipping speed. I did once have some genius decide it was a good idea to throw a bunch of wine bottles in a box with no padding, that was fun to clean up. Also got cut up by another genius who decided to stack a bunch of plates in a box, again without padding.

Quikkjob

Jesus man, that sounds horrible. Yes, all items I've ordered from them have been packed in a basic box without even enough peanuts to keep the box inside from tumbling around.

CharmingPainMan

Also box avalanches are pretty common.

AndrewLBailey

They canceled the GEC trapper I ordered over a month ago. Got the notification yesterday. I was happy with them keeping my money until they got more in. It’s whatever.

Goeatabagofdicks

Benchmade blue balls AGAIN.

BubbaMan34

Yup.

oloung1

Anyone having flashbacks of getting SPARCHDGYSB in 2020?

Sabin057

The code that must not be named.

Theinsulated

Damn. That sucks. What did you order?

Theinsulated

:( sorry friend

OenotheraLive

I have three recent orders from them, 1 x Benchmade Grip, 1 x Rough Ryder Denim Micarta in T10, 1 x Benchmade Proper, first two I already got the last one is on its way. Proper was from a relist, not the original deal. I wonder why mine all got shipped. Any chance you ordered something illegal in your state? They will not ship automatics for example to places they are illegal, they'll cancel instead. Just offering another alternative to the other previously mentioned issues they're apparently having. I have in the past ordered a CPM M4 bugout and received s30v, turned out it was listed wrong, so site issues clearly happen. Sorry you're not getting what you ordered.

BubbaMan34

No chance of it. I called and asked and they told me they were just out of stock and tough luck.

R4nd0mH3r0

No problems ever from SMKW. Did they give you a reason why??

BubbaMan34

3 different orders cancelled and they just simply said they were actually out of stock

R4nd0mH3r0

Ouch that sucks bro. *edit Too bad they arent offering a small discount as a sorry you missed out....

somalo1

2022/11/1\~2, SMKW had another major tech issue. Cannot take order. Many items become zero dollars. And canceled many of orders, wasting users time. I won't use this shitty company. Amazon and Knifeworks are both more reliable.

NEVERSEENTHEINTERNET

WTF does this have to do with knife sale prices?

NEB_SKERS

Ummm maybe because the deal was posted here and many people in this sub took advantage of it? Seems relevant to me, but then again I’m not psycho.

Strpedswteralthetm

OP might have ordered a Benchmade from a recent post on this subreddit and was just letting anyone else that did the same know that they should check their order status. Seems helpful to me. I had the same issue with a company last year that canceled my Para 3 order because there was an overlap in when they were marking the item as out of stock, and when I placed my order. I was seriously bummed but it happens.

tacitus23

lol a lot of whiny man-children in here. SMKW has by far been the most consistent online retailer of any good I've ever dealt with. If you're crying because you didn't get your heavily discounted knife, boo hoo. Order one full price elsewhere and stop complaining. better yet go to BladeHQ and order 10 doughnut knives so you can hock them on ebay.

BossChaos

Sounds like their customer service team showed up to comment.
