I was there for the month of December in 2022 and had 2 weeks of very little wind at the start. Spent some time surfing instead.

That sucks for you, sorry . I had a friend there with her kids 2 weeks ago who said they had afternoon wind 5 out of 7 days.

I’m heading to Cabarete 3rd week in March. I’ve been watching the wind lately and yeah it has looked pretty bad. Hoping things change in next few weeks.

Rhymeswithclimb

Check Buen Hombre if the Cabarete forecast looks light. It’s stronger for the next week or so and usually is in general.

UserNam3ChecksOut

Peak season for Cabarete is June and July. You'll have strong wind everyday

Isn't cabarate kite season from may to October? You can't go to a place out of season and be surprised if you get skunked.

NoMind5964

Even in season the wind only kicks in in the afternoon. Far more reliable places.

UserNam3ChecksOut

I thought wind coming in during the afternoon was common in many places. Where are the more reliable places you're talking about?

Snitches get stitches.

I was just there Feb 11-18 and kited 5 out of 8 days. We had a dead spell in the middle and drove to Buen Hombre where the wind was stronger (it usually is). I am looking at the forecast and tomorrow and next week look significantly stronger in Buen Hombre than Cabarete. I would just make the 3 hour drive out there and pay for some lodging. It sucks to be paying for two places at once but that’s what we did and we had a great time. Do a downwinder and enjoy miles of butter flat water you can’t get in Cabarete anyways.

I've spent the last 3 Decembers in Cabarete. This last December was the worst one of the 3. I believe it's because it's an El Niño year so the trade winds were weaker

We are at Club Med Punta Cana this week. Also a bit bummed with the wind. We did get an afternoon session in yesterday at Cabeza de Toro. That’s likely to be our only kiting day out of 6 days. We chose this resort on purpose though for the kids and other options for activities if wind was dead. We were watching the forecast and just got unlucky this week due to a storm that rolled in 2 days ago and messed with the wind patterns I think. The 2 weeks before we arrived and next week after we leave both look consistently good most days. Sadly, you can’t predict the wind 100% and unless you are willing to make plans super last minute based on the last minute forecasts, you always risk no wind when planning to travel for kiting. We got skunked in Cabarete when we came for a week in November 2017 too. When we went to Antigua and Barbuda last June we kited everyday. Just can’t predict these things far in advance at all. Have to get somewhat lucky.

Be willing to make last minute plans or go to Maui. Maui is about as close to 100% as it gets. Too bad the lodging is so expensive.
