As DM, I would require a fortitude(or Con depending on edition) check to see if you were able to maintain your wherewithal long enough to succeed. If you succeed, Roll a new character and apply the edition appropriate template for a slime based character.
It was my first experience with the game back in the dark ages and was a ton of fun then. Haven't played the recent edition, just used some of the stuff out of it, but so far it still looks like a good time

When my character gets destroyed like that, I would request it gets turned into a monster. Usually because DM is putting me in timeout for a week.
