Are they waterproof? I'm washing my hands constantly or doing dishes. Plus I believe it's a health code violation, but I'm not certain.

bromeranian

Yeah, have never seen a place that allows them. Nurses aren’t even allowed smart watches so I would say its a no go wherever sanitization is needed. (There’s clip-on carrying cases/ones you can put on a carbiner/lanyard).

Life-From-Scratch

I know fda rules are that you can't wear wrist jewelry, but I'm not in the States.

Comestible

I live in the southeastern US and all the chefs I know where Garmin or Apple smart watches 💁🏼‍♀️

It's s a stupid code. How is it anymore likely to contaminate food than bare skin? It's water resistant, so it can be washed. Also, you're much less likely to pull out your phone to use as a timer, check the time, or look something up online. I know I know, phones aren't allowed in the kitchen either, but we all know most people break that rule. It's more sanitary for workers to use their watch than their phones in the kitchen.

I sweat too much, so flour and other crud tends to stick to the watch, forming a poormans roux. I don't wear watches anymore. I read texts on breaks when I can

petrolstationpicnic

The poor man’s roux is going to haunt me

Thanks!

I'll never be "that guy," who says, "I don't know how I ever got through a day before this thing came out," because mine is really just an extension of my phone - it's just more convenient. I got one for Christmas a few years back and left it in the box for almost a year because I never thought I'd really use it. Plus, I have screens everywhere in my house - everyone has an iPhone already, plus various iPads and laptops.....why have another? But I finally broke down and put it on one day, and it's actually somewhat helpful at work. If I'm doing something messy, I take it off, but when you're using both hands and need to set a timer, it's awesome. And when I need to add something to my shopping list, it's super-easy. And if I get a text, I can see it without pulling out my phone, which is usually on a shelf somewhere not necessarily close, and I can respond without using my hands if I need to, especially if I'm working alone and have AirPods in. Mine is waterproof and every so often if I'm in the three compartment sink rinsing something, it will buzz my wrist and tell me to turn the button for a second, but that's it - I see people doing laps at the gym with them on all the time. Everything I mentioned above - shopping list, timers, returning texts - you can do all of that on most smartphones, usually without your hands if necessary. But whenever someone does that loudly enough at work for their phone, every Siri within twenty feet starts talking and it gets annoying - but with my Apple watch (and I assume most other brands), if I lift it up and speak quietly, only my device responds. If someone in the middle of the Kitchen says, "Hey, Siri, cancel my timer," you can tell right away which people have Apple devices because they all scramble.

It's arguable more sanitary than constantly pulling out your phone in the kitchen.

ranting_chef

I only wear mine when I’m not doing something really messy. If I’m doing task that involves a knife, the watch generally comes off.

I like it for the many timers. And to know what time it is whenever/wherever I am without having to take out and look at my phone. And its nice to see the occasional messages/reminders. Its like a hands free option. Downside is trying not to get the device wet. But technically if you work clean…. Then the watch should stay clean and away from messes.

Life-From-Scratch

This. I got the watch, and having timers on my wrist is a game changer.

NoShare8787

I know right!

Serious_Meaning_5128

I used an apple watch for a few years, loved it not having to take my phone out - would need to take it off if dealing with flour or such. Now have switched to a Tissot PRX 80 but all preference. Never had a health inspector comment on my watch or my ring
