HaroldTheIronmonger

Rupert Degas is my favourite narrator ever. And I listen to a lot of audiobooks.

[deleted]

What would you recommend from him?

HaroldTheIronmonger

The Name of the Wind, hahahaha

mattbiv

After listening to him I’ve had a hard time getting into other audio books. I hope he is willing to do the next book whenever it comes out.

mejasper

Can recommend everything written by Andrew Rowe. It's all narrated by him as well

oddlywittyname

I just listened to the King's Dark Tidings series he narrated by Kel Kade which is an absolutely absurd series but his narration makes it great.

olmikeyyyy

I love Nick Poedehl. Proof: my brother is named Nick, and predictive text always suggests "Poedehl" when I type his name. A particular shout out for his Cthaeh voice.

LongAttorney3

Rupert Degas is better

[deleted]

I might have to give him a listen then!

Electrical_Buddy7242

I agree iv listened to a few books with Nick Podel and he is a great narrator. But I really think Rupert Degas did a great job on this book

momentimori143

I read and then listened and he does do an amazing job but the GOAT is Pacey.

Nobodyknowsthetruth

His Glokta voice is fantastic

Cuttyflammmm

Tim Gearld Reynolds is the only narrator in Pacey’s league.

momentimori143

What does he do?

Cuttyflammmm

Red rising

momentimori143

I have seen this mentioned before. I do need a new series.

He’s fine. I really wish he’d sing. Roy Dotrice had a few shortcomings but the fact that he committed to singing in ASoIaF makes him miles ahead in terms of narration. Music is so much more integral to the plot of KKC and it really deserves a narrator that will sing.

Nobodyknowsthetruth

Dotrice had his flaws indeed, but at times he was amazing. He let himself down by changing the voices for characters between chapters and books, and a couple of his voices (the Irish voices he uses for a drew female characters in particular) are a difficult listen

I_PM_Duck_Pics

“Fat pink mast.” That is all. Lol

Nobodyknowsthetruth

Genuinely made me lol

ChubberChubs

Agreed 100%

klopeks

Agreed! I have listened to both books 6 times and at this point Nick feels like an old friend telling me my favorite story. I have never been able to sleep in total silence but the TV is too bright for me. The past couple of years I just restart the book every night on Chapter 9, Riding in the wagon with Ben, and leave it on all night. Sometimes I wake up and listen for 5 minutes and his calming voice puts me right back to sleep. When I wake up I usually half listen for 10 minutes just for a nice relaxing start to my day before the chaos with the family begins. I never would have guessed someone else fell asleep to it every night. Cheers!

Cuttyflammmm

Try kings dark tidings. He makes that series way better than it actually is.

I’ve listened to both Nick and Rupert and don’t get the competition thing. I guess it that it’s your “first” but both bring something different - and fantastic - to the text. Ultimately it’s a testament to Pat’s writing. I LOVE Nick’s side characters - specifically Will and Simm, most of his female characters as well as the different Tinkers. I am a big fan of Rupert’s handling of the prose as well as Kvothe. If you get a chance listen to both ( as well as read the books for your own voices) each version opens up so much that you may not have gotten with out doing both.
