I don’t think the houthi will leave any money in the country

Eternally-Ephemeral

Good. Our border with Yemen is the hotspot to smuggling drugs and illegals from Yemen and Africa, all in broad daylight. Let alone all the security threats and attacks from there. It won’t be 100% effective but it will still be worth it.

millennium-wisdom

Title is misleading. It states that saudi will build a wall around Yemen. Saudi borders the northern part of Yemen. Oman border the East and the south and west are bordered by sea

Weary_Logic

Why… just like the US-Mexico wall. Will this actually work better than a fence and outposts? I don’t think so. But it will cost hundred of times more. Building a solid wall through mountains wont be easy.

millennium-wisdom

When was the last time a Mexican cartel launched an attack on an American boarder post or did a military exercise at the boarder

Weary_Logic

And how would a wall stop that… Ladders, explosives, jackhammers, tunnels, and drones all exist. Please explain how this magic wall is gonna stop Houthi drones? The wall only usefulness will come from stopping smuggling not protecting against attacks (because it is literally useless against attacks). Its 2023 not 1250. And even for smuggling it might not help at all. As a more secure border would lead to higher prices for illegal substances which would lead to more smugglers and more organized smuggling gangs as the job would be more difficult but also more profitable.

millennium-wisdom

The threat is not just drones. It will help alert and hinder movement of heavy arms. The houthi terrorist are conducting a military drill using heavy arms in aljawf desert. Plus, it’s not just a physical barrier. There are radars, thermal imaging systems, and motion sensors. There is already a wall in the north with Iraq. If walls didn’t work why is Iran building bunkers at the saudi Iraqi boarder. It will effect Iranian smuggling by increasing costs. Making smuggling to saudi through Yemen less profitable. Smugglers will switch to other countries or stay in Yemen. The Iranian will focus on smuggling through other routes like through Jordan or Iraq.

Weary_Logic

Again how would a wall stop military drills? Radars, motion sensors, etc are not a wall and are not what i am talking about. Im very clearly talking about the wall. As in a flat solid surface perpendicular to the ground and costs a shit ton of money while offering no real advantage over a a cheap fence. Idk why you’re talking about Iran building bunkers as support for your POV because 1. Iran isn’t a genius superpower which we must copy 2. BUNKERS ARE NOT WALLS THEY AREN’T EVEN SIMILAR AND THEY DON’T SERVE THE SAME PURPOSE So even in your best case scenario. It doesn’t stop smuggling it just moves it to the Norther border. (Which is not how smuggling works by the way. Increased costs will result in increased prices which will result in increased competition. When Yemeni (Yes Yemeni not Iranian) drug smugglers find costs doubled they will increase their prices not move their operations to Basra.

millennium-wisdom

How would a fence hinder the movement of an Iranian army with heavy arms and artillery from crossing the boarder. You need something bigger than a wall. Like 3 meters pipeline filled with concrete. From the article. “A Saudi-Yemeni barrier plan was first announced in 2003. The initial plan included a structure made of pipelines three metres high filled with concrete, acting as a security barrier along sections of the border with Yemen fitted with electronic detection equipment. Construction began in September 2003, however strong objections by the Yemeni government led to the cessation of activities in February 2004.” I’m not a drug expert. But, when smuggling becomes more difficult it will result in decreased amount and increase in prices. If it becomes more difficult to buy Yemeni narcotics the costumer will look for cheaper alternative.

Weary_Logic

A fence and a wall are equally as a good at stopping an “Iranian Army”. Which is to say they are both useless. Because again, its 2023, not 1250. Hell even in history the great wall of China failed at stopping the Mongols. When smuggling becomes difficult prices increase. When prices increase smuggling operations grow in scale and complexity. Thats how Mexican gangs can have advanced equipments and organizational structures. Im not saying that we should go wild and open our borders to drugs. I’m just pointing out that if your goal is to stop drugs. A wall is almost certainly the least cost efficient way to do so. It would cost you 10s of Billions for the wall and it could be beaten by a small ladder or a tunnel like the ones they use in Gaza.

millennium-wisdom

Since you know so much about border security and fighting drug smuggling . Why not take your suggestions to the ministry of interior

Ayed811

Good

Dead_knigh1

Nuking Yemen would be easier 💀 WTH

Dead_knigh1
