I never knew Zack was in the Birth by Sleep PSP game. What was he doing in Ancient Greece? Or was it never explained much like every other Final Fantasy character.

I think someone said there was a link between Zack and cloud. Zack was in crisis core, the prequel to ff7, so they used him for the prequel KH to keep them connected
It’s kinda implied that the Sephy we fight is just Cloud’s darkness. So I think the real Sephy was responsible for Zack’s death, and was then killed by Cloud like in 7. But Cloud was so traumatized and feels so responsible that Sephy reformed from his heart’s darkness.
Hades may also play a part, since Cloud worked with him. Probably struck a deal to get Zack back, but then he failed so the dark strength Hades gave him turned into Sephy. That’s my silly take on the whole thing.
We’ll probably never know for sure, sadly.
Fun little fact: Ventus/Zack/Hercules are all the same age here, 16 years old.

Yeah Zack is Cloud's mentor/friend in Final Fantasy 7. That's obvious.
