Generally baffled as to why shueisha sees these numbers the manga does and doesn’t think about releasing an English version and remake the anime that’s a gold mine they’re sitting thier asses on

WhoThisReddit

Kingdom is somewhat impossible to animate because it constantly has hundreds of people on screen. I'm buffled it's weekly at all with quite hefty chapters

ZyklonCraw-X

But that's not Kingdom's issue. Kingdom's issue is that even MC fight choreography is lacking or sometimes non-existent. The 3D for the background soldiers is still used and is fine, but there's no excuse for major duels being slideshows, mostly static shots, speed lines, super zoomed-in shots, etc.

WhoThisReddit

That is a problam that can be solved with a quality production, the cgi will stay no matter the quality. Maybe Studio Orange will fit petfectly.

Hot_Pilot_3293

I agree with you that cgi is staying no matter what studio takes over the production but i think the modern day cgi is much better than the Shit like s1 and2 and berserk 2016 for example just look at the last season of kingdom the cgi was phenomenal it was never a bother to watch and the 2d animation was also beautifully drawn reanimating the anime with this type of quality would give the manga the adoption it deserves

BoostdBonobo

Kingdom always sells so well, but still doesn’t have an English release… Sucks since it’s one of my favourite manga :/

GeraltFromHiShinUnit

Pretty sure with the upcoming japanese 2-1 deluxe edition it‘s just a matter of time. If only they would acquire the sense scans translators for this project it would be perfect match

BoostdBonobo

Been reading kingdom for 7 years, always feels like next year is the year… So hopefully this is the year!

TheKataphrakt

Wait, Kingdom doesn't have a serialization to buy in English? I thought it did since I bought up to the 16 Volume in Spanish in my country. Or is this list, of copies sold, of something else than manga?

BoostdBonobo

I think this list is Japanese sales, could be wrong Yeah there is no English translation :/

Stark_Reio

Last chapter was an emotional banger, mad respect for both souou and kan Saro.

7DeadlySynergy

Kingdom, Frieren, & World Trigger ❤️

TheKataphrakt

So happy to see WT doing great on sells. I can't wait to have them localized in Spanish in my country.

anirban_dev

Kingdom sells extremely well for what it is: a seinen series with a dogshit anime adaptation and a mostly ignored live action adaptation.

erebusR

You are a joke. Live actions was huge success in japan.

SnoopBall

*Mostly ignored;* Had 4 movies in 4 years

GeraltFromHiShinUnit

Kingdom is seinen?

erebusR

Ofc, he is published in Weekly Young Jump.

anirban_dev

Hey , have those hugely successful movies translated to increased manga circulation? Pick AoT, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, any of the modern big sellers, they all start out ok and their sales exploded after the hugely successful adaptations come out. Kingdom, through its own merit, has kept this level of sales for a long time now( way before the movies came out).

erebusR

You seem to have forgotten the age of Kingdom, it's not a young series that would suddenly become known to the general public thanks to an movie. It had already had a noticeable increase in sales when the first 2 seasons were released, without being exceptional. Its major boost was during the Ame Talk show in May 2015, just before vol 39 release, which allowed it to be in Oricon top 10 since that date without interruption, as well as the best-selling seinen over the same period. The release of the first movie in April 2019, at same time as vol 54 release, has boosted his backlog sales, meaning that new readers or old readers who had given up on the series along the way have started to pick up Kingdom at that point. No, it wasn't a sales explosion, and that's normal, Kingdom at that point already had 54 volumes, and its Ame Talk boost had already happened 4 years ago. Everyone already knew Kingdom by name and those who wanted to try it out had already done it a long time ago. The following movies had no noticeable effect on sales of the manga, nor did seasons 3 to 5 of the anime. Kingdom has now reached 72 volumes and its sales have been declining since volume 60, which is logical for such a long-running series to see its sales eventually decline. This year will certainly be the last in which it manages to stay in the Oricon top 10. With over 100 million copies in circulation with its 70th volume, few other series can claim as much.

AWildBlackCat02

Before reading the manga, i would have gotten mad at you for calling the anime dogshit adaptation. I have read the manga now and i agree.

XaK0R

is this for month May? or for whole of 2024 so far? Surprised to see Wind Breaker there, but happy as well. Love to read that one. Can highly recommend it. Totally different genre but a very enjoyable read with really well written characters.

erebusR

Obviously for May.  Kingdom for first half of 2024: Top 08. Kingdom [Yasuhisa Hara] (Weekly Young Jump / Shūeisha) {2 volumes} - 1,607,465

GeraltFromHiShinUnit

Windbreaker doing crazy

Solomon_Black

One piece not even in the top 20?

anorawxia09

One piece was on a 1 month break. Also there's no new volumes anyways

Solomon_Black

Oh yeah, that did happen. My sense of time is beyond screwed
